Where To Eat Outside In Fort Worth

"The story behind Chef Point is the stuff of legend. It began as a little restaurant within a gas station, but the quality of the food didn’t fit its humble surroundings. The juxtaposition of elevated comfort food - like lobster mac and cheese, blackened pork chops, and a famous bread pudding - in a more casual setting helped Chef Point gain a local fanbase and national attention. Now years later, Chef Point has expanded into an expansive restaurant and patio, with locations in north Fort Worth and Colleyville." - emily smith

Chef Point Bar & Restaurant – Watauga, Texas - Gastro Obscura

"Chef Point is something of a paradox. It’s a high-end restaurant that offers perfectly cooked steak and duck with plum sauce. But it’s also in a former gas station, just off the highway, in a suburb of Fort Worth. The unusual eatery’s origins date back to 2003, when owner Paula Merrell Nwaeze tried to open a more traditional restaurant with her husband. Since they didn’t have prior experience, the bank denied them a restaurant loan, and all the couple could afford was an empty space in a then-operational Conoco gas station. The sit-down restaurant they eventually opened inside became so popular that the couple removed the gas pumps. They were making most of their money from the restaurant, not the gas. Chef Point is part of a larger Texas tradition. In the massive state, which has more gas stations than any other, the gas station restaurant is its own genre, often offering better-than-average meals to a population on the move. But Chef Point has now become a destination for diners seeking lobster macaroni and cheese, seafood-stuffed poblano peppers, and rib-eye. It’s not fare you’d expect at a pit-stop, but it makes for a charming contrast with Chef Point’s once-humble surroundings. Know Before You Go Chef Point now has a second location (this one not in a gas station) at 5220 Hwy 121, in Colleyville, Texas." - Shy Pollock, pkrishna, Xenophore

So this is tricky. We went here for lunch today and all seemed well. The food is presented nicely but it was some of the blandest tasting things I’ve had in a bit. Aside from the bread pudding, that was phenomenal forgot to take a photo of it. But I can’t stress enough. The food is incredibly under-seasoned. It couldn’t help but think of what could be done better. It had the vibe of an old timey country diner food menu. Where everything is under 20 bucks and the seats are peeling a bit? If that was the price and atmosphere here I’d have been overjoyed for the food. But it’s not. This place is trying too hard to be something upscale. With prices that are jaw dropping in comparison to the flavor received (aside from the bread pudding, I can’t stress that enough. It was the best bread pudding I’ve had in a long while.) The ritzy almost casual steakhouse atmosphere doesn’t work with this menu, or with a cardboard cutout of I assume the chef or owner, watching you the moment you walk in. That took me a second to process. I understand taking pride in your business. The honor wall for decor was great along with the wine cellar wall next to it. Great ascetics. But I truly feel the vibe is off when we throw in a cardboard cutout. That was just odd. And the bar dog statue didn’t fit. Maybe I’m too picky here. Back to the other stuff. Our waiter was great and attentive. Answering questions about the food and menu to a fault. All was good except for the survey at the end. This is no fault to him as I’m sure he had to do it. But it felt so cheesy to ask us to file a survey card right there at the table. A QR code on the receipt, that feels more professional. I’m not going to feel like I need to file one there when I’m in the restaurant. That’s one of the most tacky things I’ve ever seen. All in all, if I want a truly incredible slice of bread pudding I’d go back for that. Nothing else. I’d truly get dinner or lunch or brunch food at a completely different restaurant, and order that bread pudding to go. Also, be weary of five star reviews here. Found their website, and it says, “leave a review and be entered to win 500 dollars.” Although that’s probably reviews on their site specifically, it makes me wonder how many people added a review on other platforms to boost their perceived chance of winning. Which as a giveaway, adds to the tackiness that was permeating the experience. I can’t see myself coming back here for the price point. I just can’t. It was not a worthwhile experience

Visiting for the first time. Sunday jazz on the patio. Lovely atmosphere, great service, good music, delicious drinks and food. I had the stuffed seafood poblano, bread pudding, blackberry smash along with the jalapeño watermelon margarita (not pictured) We’ll definitely return

This was our first time here! It was myself, my husband, and our dog kid - Cartier. I was worried when we brought the dog kid in, but they smiled and seated us at a table no questions asked! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the fact that dogs are welcome here. We had the shrimp Alfredo- which was absolutely amazing! It had me at first bite, the Asiago in the sauce was a divine addition and the pasta cooked to perfection! Not mushy and it was mouth watering. I had the big daddy Bloody Mary and it was probably one of the best that I have ever had! I love this place, and even though it was our first time, y’all got us for life. Anytime we make it this way, definitely going to stop in and try more of the menu. Edited to add: Deija was absolutely pleasant! She was on point with everything and so incredibly sweet! Held conversation but didn’t linger. I seriously enjoyed my lunch here, it was absolutely wonderful.

Our first visit and it WILL NOT be the last! Exceptional taste and presentation. We had the 'better than sex chicken' and the bread pudding. Not one complaint. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Trashiest staff - (luckily we had sense to check the bag before leaving) we ordered to go and they got the order incorrect. When telling the person at the front podium, she simply took the box & took it to the back then staff were arguing with one another on what the ticket says in front of us and the rest of customer’s making it very uncomfortable & no one even cared to speak to us about the order being incorrect the white girl just gave us another box with another burger Terrible service, decent food - truly not worth the hype

The Nigerian man and his wife were so welcoming here! It is somewhere you must go and eat! This black owned business boasts amazing American eats from salads, sandwiches, pastas and more! We went for lunch specials and I got the chicken piccata and my friend got the chicken and waffle (both lunch portion sizes, which are smaller than dinner). I got the half bottle of Ruffino prosecco and my friend got the Watermelon margarita! I highly recommend!

Great place the service has been struggling lately. We went for Sunday brunch and one of the people in my party got the wrong meal and we advised the server. An hour later we spoke to someone else and they finally brought her food out. No offer to credit anything off the bill just thank you. It was not even that busy.

I usually don't like to post negative reviews but the service was terrible and the food was just ok. It was our first visit and definitely will not be coming again. Food - had the Bloody Mary Beast and a Chicken Ceasar Salad. If I had a wishlist of things to improve on the Mary - I would grill the green onion (I don't see eating a whole raw green onion with my Mary), spice up the Mary mix (it just tastes like plain tomato juice), use deep fried chicken tenders instead of the breast or at least brine those breasts before flying (not enough salt or batter), and ditch the pickled okra for pickled green beans instead. And 2 oz of Vodka in what I think was a 32 oz glass just isn't enough alcohol to juice ratio. Overall, I wouldn't spend $40 on it but it was ok, so I would buy it for $25. It's more presentation then anything else. The Ceasar dressing needed more acid and the croutons were stale. But otherwise it was pretty decent. Service - absolutely terrible. Food was dropped and that was the end of all service. Had to flag down who I believe may have been the owner to cash out during a very slow time of the day. Atmosphere - pretentious. The owner has a cut out of himself standing by the kitchen, apparently so people can take photos with it.... we found this to be very bizarre. A fancy Bently parked out front and no friendly staff.... those $40 Bloody Mary's must be paying off. Conclusion - There are way too many amazing restaurants in the area to warrant a second visit here. But we can finally mark this one off the list.
