We recommend specifically the food we got. We've only been the once, so our review is based solely on the service, the food, and the beer that day.
Chorizo tacos: Superb. Larger than you think they will be. I asked how big they were. (Since they were only $3, I assumed they'd be small.) The lady behind the counter showed me the tortilla. I assumed that the taco would be typical fast food size. Wrong! You can't fold these tacos until you have eaten at least half of the filling. Two stuffed me.
Fried pickle: Best ever. Again, concerned about the size, I asked. The lady gestured with her hands about the size of a whole dill pickle. I asked about that and was told that it was just a fried spear. So, we ordered one each. Wrong! It is a dill spear, but then it is wrapped in ham, cheese, and a tortilla. Then it is fried. They're huge! We split one and took the other home.
Fish and chips. Very good. Fish was tender with crispy coating. Fries were, well, um, fries.
Beer: They brew their own. Some are available with a ball of frozen grapefruit juice. Amazing. Listen to the recommendations about which beers to put the ball in and which not. If you are unsure which beer to order, ask for a few shots of the ones you might like. They will happily provide you with samples.
Service was good, if not a little weird (due, no doubt, to COVID). To order food, you MUST go to the counter to order, pay, and (later) pick up. To order drinks, you MUST be seated for a server to take your order. I dunno. I guess COVID is most likely transmitted when ordering drinks at the bar and when ordering food at the table and less likely to be transmitted when ordering drinks at your table and food at the counter. I'm stumped.
Anyway, the staff was friendly and able to laugh at the silliness themselves. All in all, an enjoyable experience. If you are staying in the Buckeye Lake area, make at least one visit to the Chef Shack and the attached brewery.
