Chef Tian's - Review - Rowland Heights - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"If you’ve eaten much Chinese food around Vancouver, you might be familiar with Chef Tian’s, a popular Hunanese spot that just expanded with its first U.S. location in City of Industry. The lengthy menu here looks fiery enough to test anyone’s spice tolerance, and many dishes arrive at the table in woks they were cooked in, like dry pot chicken wings, wok-fried abalone, stinky tofu, sour fish, and Hunan-style smoked ribs. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Cathy Park

This restaurant is very authentic Hunan style, with distinctive flavors that are incredibly similar to what I've eaten in China. The chicken gizzards were amazing, although one dish seemed a little overcooked. When we were packing up to leave, I casually mentioned it to the waiter sister , and they actually gave me a refund! The service was excellent, no wonder they've survived in Rowland ~ The ice cream was delicious, and I'll definitely be back. I'm addicted to spicy food, and it's not easy to find the right kind of chili peppers, so I'm very satisfied!

My coworkers and I have been searching for a new spicy lunch spot since Spicy Home relocated further away & I think this is a great alternative that specializes in Hunan style cuisine so we get that 🌶️ 🥵 ! The service here was really good for how understaffed they were since someone called out sick. Two waiters took care of the restaurant during a very busy lunch, but I’d say our party of 6 got seated pretty quickly. They made the time to get us an extra chair & explain the menu. Restaurant looks brand new, a bit small like a mom & pops which makes it comfortable. Not overly decorated, but has a nice Chinese restaurant vibe. I’m obsessed with those garlic vinegar fern root noodles that are so refreshing. The Hunan bacon & ribs were amazing & lamb bite were really nice! The stinky tofu can be stinkier, but has a nice crunch. I’m a bit biased though since my neighbor in Shanghai makes & sells stinky tofu back in the day. Gizzards and boiled beef tongue were good too, but didn’t stand out as much. I can’t wait to try more dishes here!

This is our latest find for authentic tasty Chinese food in the east San Gabriel valley. This one happened to serve Hunan cuisine, which is known for its extreme spiciness. We generally do not search out Hunan dishes, but I was hungry for some spicy food. We only tried two of its dishes and both were excellent. We asked the nice server if one of the dishes was spicy and her reply was pretty funny. She said there was only one item on the menu that comes without hot peppers, which was the steamed spare ribs with taro roots. Naturally we had to try it and it was very tasty. Both the taro roots and the pork were tender and flavorful, just as good as the top restaurants in China. We also tried the beef with sauerkraut in a bucket. We asked this one to be “micro” spicy and it was still pretty spicy, but in a very good way. The server also told us that we an ask any of the dishes without chili peppers (but then why come to a Hunan restaurant) or we can ask for reduced spiciness as well. This place was recently opened and the eating area was fresh and comfortable. The service was friendly and attentive. Highly recommended if you like spicy Chinese dishes or you can do what we did, which was asking for “micro” spicy. If you haven’t tried Hunan cuisine before, then prepare for a culinary adventure here. This is one of the few places that I rated 5* for food, service and atmosphere, especially for a family style restaurant.

Very tasty Hunan food that offers flavorful meals and good vibes. A lot of specialty food options such as stinky tofu and smoked bamboo shoots with cured meat. If you crave for hot & spicy food with a character, this is the place to go for. Plus, free ice cream after your meal!

The signature stir-fried pork and it absolutely lived up to the hype! The pork was tender, flavorful, and perfectly spicy with that irresistible wok hei (smoky wok aroma). Every bite paired so well with rice—it’s the kind of dish you can’t stop eating. The service was fast, the environment clean, and overall it was a super satisfying Hunan-style meal. Highly recommended if you love bold, spicy flavors!

This Hunan restaurant truly exceeded my expectations! Their Abalone Stir-Fried Pork is the best I’ve ever had — absolutely unbeatable. The abalone is tender and fresh, the pork is perfectly seasoned with that signature Hunan aroma and heat. The balance of flavors and the wok-hei are spot on. Every bite is rich, flavorful, and addictive — a dish you’ll keep thinking about long after the meal. The restaurant is clean, and the service is warm and attentive. Definitely one of those places you try once and immediately want to come back to. Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Hunan cuisine! 🌶️✨
