7 Last Minute Gift Ideas for the Bay Area Food Fan on Your List - Eater SF

"Chef’s Cart, a local produce delivery company that — unlike many out there — allow single box orders instead of requiring a subscription commitment. They deliver in SF on Saturdays and Thursdays, and in Oakland, Alameda, and Daly City on Saturdays." - Eve Batey

The food is very tasty! I tried their avocado quinoa salad and fish tacos. The owner is very friendly too. There's plenty of space to sit down either at a picnic table or a comfy sectional couch under an umbrella.

For the price, def not worth it. 20 dollars is absurd for a burger of this quality, I can go to In n Out and get a bomb ass burger for way cheaper. Not to mention the fries were terribly mid, tasted freezer burned. The service is horrendous, took me thirty mins to get my food. And they didn’t even have what was advertised in my burger. I ordered the Chefs Special Burger, and on the menu it said it comes with Garlic Aioli, and Sautéed Onions, but when I got my burger, I got none of that… sad stuff guys…

Who puts a whole piece of lettuce in a burrito? As a Mexican, this is laughable and for the price, it's embarrassing.

On recent trip to SF, my sister took me to play mini golf near this food truck. Lots of options there but the Animal hotdog caught my eye. Wow - this was so good! Lived up to its name!

Yelp
Stopped by before a warrior game to get a quick bite with the kids. I will say it wasn't really quick but it was worth it. There was only one gentleman working by himself and cooking things fresh so there is a bit of a wait. I got the Mac and cheese balls and the carne asada chefs tacos. The Mac and cheese balls are fried perfect and have great presentation could use a little more flavor inside. The carne asada tacos had plenty of meat and the meat was fresh and melted in your mouth. Also great chips and salsa!

Yelp
Not sure if this is just a ghost kitchen on wheels- the food reminds me of one. As others have mentioned, wide variety of options but the food is very bland, nothing distinctive, completely forgettable. Would be ok if the prices were good, but they're basically the same or even more expensive than local takeout style restaurants, which are already not cheap in SF, but at least those have better food. Portion size is also nothing to write home about, definitely felt more than a little ripped off. This seems to be the norm for food trucks these days though- overpriced, low-ish quality fare.

Yelp
Really good fish tacos! Great portion and chips included. Salsa had a bit of spice! Very nice. California Burrito is decent. Pass on the fried mac n cheese balls. They gave a kind of spicy mayo as dip. Would love it if they had the Dungeness crab cake by itself with a lemon wedge or two. Would forsure return for the fish tacos and to try their shrimp tacos!

Yelp
A weekly stop for me, a true gem in the mission Bay Area. Located a few blocks from the UCSF Campus, it is an easy place to grab a solid lunch or dinner. The quality is something that speaks for itself, it's a place I recommend my colleagues and friends to check out. The owner of the restaurant is also an amazing person and it's always a pleasure seeing him once a week.

Yelp
A food truck with a suspiciously large menu, so it kinda feels like a diner on wheels. With such a wide offering, it's not surprisingly that the menu items are kind of hit-or-miss. The Philly Steak Sandwich was probably one of the worst I've ever had while the fish tacos were pretty solid. Hence, the 3-stars (averaging 2-star with a 4-star). Philly Steak Sandwich: If you're going to invoke Philly Steak in your sandwich name, then it should bear some resemblance to the famous sandwich. Sadly, not here. The "steak" was too thick and kinda gristly. The bread wasn't not that nice chewy hoagie texture, but kinda firm and crusty like ciabatta. And no Cheez Whiz. In a similar vein of deception, the advertised garlic fries were not garlic fries at all. Kinda felt like Sysco frozen fries with some Old Bay Seasoning. Pretty disappointing overall. Fish Tacos: The fish portion was very generous here, with each of the two tacos overflowing with fish. Was actually messy since it was so overfilled and had a lot of sauces. But if you don't mind getting messy, it kinda all works together.

Yelp
We stopped by this past Saturday for a late dinner, and service was fast and friendly. A lot of options to choose from on the menu. Got the fried mac n cheese balls, and caesar salad with shrimp, and both items were amazing! The mac n cheese balls were hot, cheesy, crisp on the outside, and a good size. The salad was huge and filling, fresh greens, plenty of plump grilled shrimp, and not overdressed in caesar, the dressing with just the right tanginess. Seating was plentiful after 8pm at Parklab Gardens. Parking isn't easy here though (better to uber).

Yelp
Don't order from here if you're hoping to get a quick meal and go, you'll be waiting for at least half an hour. The cashier took much longer than needed to place my order and the rest of the kitchen crew aside from the head chef didn't look like they knew what they were doing. Ordered 1 California burrito with carnitas. It was decent enough and served fresh out of the grill, however towards the later end of my burrito I saw and tasted some chicken mixed in. I get that in a kitchen such as theirs, there is a possibility of cross contamination but come on now this was egregious. Of all the Spark Social and Parkside Garden trucks I've personally had so far, this is definitely takes the least favorite spot.

Yelp
Ordered the Steak Burrito and was extremely disappointed. I should've read the description where it said there was lettuce in the burrito and should've known there wouldn't be any rice or beans. This is not your typical steak burrito. It's more of a wrap I would say. There's so much lettuce! The steak was just a bunch of fat pieces that I couldn't chew on either. I didn't even eat half of the "burrito" before I threw it away. They also have a California burrito as well which probably would've been a better choice. I've also had their crab cake sandwich which was just crab cakes with hamburger buns, a little bit of sauce, greens and onions. Honestly would've just preferred the crab cakes and sauce by itself instead. Their fish tacos and shrimp tacos sound a little better but I don't think I would give this place another try.

Yelp
A year ago I wouldve given this place 5 stars. The quality of food has since decreased. Fish didnt taste as fresh, guacamole looked a bit brown and old...

Yelp
I live in Mission Bay and I've passed up this truck for the past 10 months. I think that the menu is a bit overwhelming with the extensive list of options, so I made the wrong assumption that their food couldn't be that great. When I finally decided to give it a shot, I was pleasantly surprised at how yummy their food is. I got the fish tacos, and mmm they're so good! It also comes with chips and salsa, which were also perfect. Definitely coming back to try other menu items!

Yelp
Food was decent, the cook was rude to his helper they need to develop a more organized way to avoid getting confused with the orders. Most importantly they need to move the ticket order printer away from the cashiers window so people won't think that's the receipt.

Yelp
If you're looking for some heavenly seafood tacos, look no further than Chefs Work food truck at SPARK Social SF! The truck says "we taste better than we look" and that was so true!! Their fish tacos are grilled to perfection and seasoned beautifully, topped with the right amount of pico de gallo, cheese, guacamole and chipotle aioli (we opted for no cole slaw). The fish simply melts in your mouth and the portions are generous. Each fish taco included what appeared to be at least an 8oz filet. Sometimes with grilled fish tacos, the fish can be overpowered by the toppings, but thankfully it was balanced perfectly. The shrimp in the avocado shrimp tacos were large and juicy, also seasoned and grilled to perfection and topped with a similar chipotle aioli. Pleasantly surprised to get three in one order. Love getting excellent quality from a food truck!! Pro tip: Try going during the week if you can, less wait and you can sit in the tee-pees or other nice seating areas!

Yelp
We were served moldy cabbage and rancid meat in our burritos. when I shared our concern about the food we were sharing with our 2 and 5 year olds, the cook would not even hear our concern. there are several other food trucks close by, best to try one that serves food with more fresh ingredients.

Yelp
We live in Mission Bay and it makes me sad that it took me so long to try this place. All the burgers I missed in the meantime! We used to go to Umami Burger on 4th and King and really miss them. One day, these guys were parked in Spark Social rather than ParkLabs (across the street) and we thought they were a new truck. We tried their pork belly sandwich with a sunny side up egg. While the sandwich is gigantic and the amount of pork belly in it may kill you, at least you'll die knowing your last meal was heavenly! They use Acme bread and the burgers take a good five minutes to prepare because they're made to order. We have since gone back to this truck many times. Don't let their unassuming exterior fool you! They've got some delicious options! We tried their Chef's single burger (Acme bread, cheese, Mayo, beef, lettuce, onion and pickles), which I think of as your basic hamburger but better. The cheese and meat melt in your mouth. My husband and I usually share the meals so we tried the bigger version of the Chef's single burger, Chef's Special Burger. This is the same as the single but with bacon and a sunny side up egg (see picture below). This one is our favorite! The egg really adds a tremendous amount of flavor and the bacon is perfectly cooked. This truck never seems to have a long line and since they're in ParkLabs (where there aren't as many trucks as Spark Social across the street), it's a great option to try during Covid-19. They have tents you can stand under if it's raining. Once the city reopens outdoor dining, these guys have lots of seating options (couches up front with tents, long tables, small tables). The folks who work here are also nice to interact with. They seem to be Covid compliant and for that I'm thankful. Give them a try!

Yelp
This place is legit! I ordered the 2 fish tacos. The portion is pretty good. Unlike other food places with their portioning. I think it's tilapia that they use. But the flavors are present! I would recommend this place for fish tacos.

Yelp
The avocado shrimp tacos are amazing. Highly recommend. The avocado quinoa salad is also a standard order for my wife and me. Generally all their food is good.

Yelp
Had a steak burrito last night at a music event and am still mind blown of how good it was. Nice crunch in every bite. I'll be looking for this truck every time i cross into the city. Highly recommend

Yelp
Al Pastor burger! It's definitely a must try. I was very very much impressed and will definitely order it again. Huge portion and delicious.

Yelp
Food was great, can't wait to try it again, I had the fish tacos and my daughter had the chicken club, both fantastic!!

Amitesh B.

Yelp
Ordered the Chef's special burger and Chefs Taco. Kept telling me it would be another 1-2 minutes (after I waited 15 minutes). Finally after 30 minutes, they admitted they had lost my ticket. I finally got the food exactly 40 minutes after my order. Got to admit that the food tasted good, other than a piece of paper cooked into the burger patty . Not going to be a repeat customer.

Amanda V.

Yelp
The macaroni cheese balls are absolutely amazing, as are the burgers!!!! They also except cash where is all the other trucks do not.

Vanessa S.
