Chengdu Bistro Loop

We were next door having wine, but passed this place on the way and circled back once we got hungry. What a hidden gem! We got three plates which left us perfectly full. The wontons and dumplings were thin, with a generous amount of filling and in perfectly seasoned sauces. My friend got a noodle dish and at first we were concerned they would be dry, but were delighted to find out there was a hidden serving of a very tasty sauce under the noodles once mixed. Overall would gladly come back and definitely recommend this for a date night or quick bite out!

Nice little Chinese restaurant near the Dearborn station. Friendly service and good food. We ordered a smattering of appetizers and entree food. Loved the boiled Szechuan beef and the potatoes (essentially fries topped with spicy szechuan and red peppers). Family sized portions. They're BYOB! Street metered parking available around.

2nd Visit: Sad to say I won't be coming back anymore to this place. Gave it a second try and it's really bad. Everything was salty. And the chili spice was overwhelming. Taro Boba tea is bad also. It's ok to pay for an expensive food if it's worth it. Really I cook better than them. I am of Chinese decent born and raised in Southeast Asia. When u see a Chinese restaurant and majority of their customers are none Asian then be skeptical. Which means their taste is geared towards the American taste. First visit: I love Beef noodle soup and I am not a fan of their version. The soup was so salty it was at the dangerous level. The spiciness is too much you can't taste the food anymore. I even got the 50%. Soup dumpling is bland in favor. Price is decent so I will give this place another chance will come back and try other noodles they have. But this time I will definitely tell them not too salty. Hope it works and better.

OMG I think those are genuinely the best noodles I have had in Chicago. You can taste that they're fresh and homemade. Not a single dish was a disappointment. I've been here multiple times since the opening already and have managed to try a big chunk of the menu and here are my favorites: - Steamed dumplings, any kind. The pan fried were good but standard. The steamed dumplings are to die for. The dough is delicious and the dumplings are JUICY - Spicy Wonton Noodle Soup has crazy umami and is the perfect amount of spice -Suan La Fen with it's sour soup and sweet potato noodles is to die for - Cold Noodle Salad is something even a picky eater would enjoy. Simple but super flavorful - Sichuan Zajiang noodles look a bit basic but you have to stir it to reveal all the sauce and meat at the bottom. Again, a perfect amount of spice and the noodles taste amazingly fresh Also, the price to quality and quantity ratio is INSANE. The portions are enough to feed 2, so be prepared to take some to go if you're ordering multiple items. Overall, this place is really worth trying out. I'm super happy to have them in the neighborhood ☺️

Chengdu Bistro in Printer's row is excellent. The go- to for my family for their soup dumplings (they love the pork ones) and I love the duck fried rice and chicken egg rolls. The service is always great and the flavored lemonade and teas are refreshing. If you want consistently great food and service, then make sure to visit.

We came here for dinner one night while visiting the area. They were still in their "soft open" phase. The place was packed at 8:30pm; we waited 30 mins. for a table for 2, and every seat was filled until they closed, so it's clearly a popular spot! I liked the menu -- great variety of dumplings and noodle soups, and plenty other small plates. We went with vegetable egg rolls, pork soup dumplings, steamed pork and shrimp dumplings, and a dry noodle dish with pork. The shrimp was super fresh, and the dumplings had good textures, but flavors were kind of mild on the soup dumplings. My lady said the noodles were 5/10 and also could have used some more flavor. Egg rolls were excellent. The place has a very casual vibe but it's pleasing to look at and has some thoughtful touches. Service was mediocre. I wouldn't deter anybody from giving this place a try, especially since they seem to still be new and figuring things out.

Surprised to see a new Chinese restaurant open in Printers Row. They just soft opened yesterday so it looks like they're still working out the kinks--operational with about 2/3 of their full menu and most of the seating area ready. Service was prompt and friendly, and at least some staff speak Mandarin, which is a plus. We ordered their Pork & Chive dumplings ($10 for 8) which were excellent, perfectly seasoned with a barely sweet, savory vinegar sauce with thinly sliced ginger. They didn't have their full dumpling options available today but I look forward to trying their other kinds--they can make steamed, boiled, or pan-fried. I really loved these. Their dry chili chicken was delicious with the right of sichuan peppercorn kick, reminds me of Lao Sze Chuan ($19). The braised beef noodles were so-so ($14.50), when I asked the server about it, he recommended the spicy since it's a lot more flavorful. All in all, I have a lot of hope for this restaurant. I'm guessing they'll need more time for their staffing, kitchen and rest of the restaurant to be fully up in running.

Delicious hand pulled noodle spot. I ordered the seafood noodle. Decent portion and price. Fast, friendly service. Nice setup. I can recommend.

Here for Chicago marathon 2025 and wanted to carb up on some noodles and get fueled with electrolytes from sodium packed soups. Opted to check out this place for just that. We debated over getting three different items to share or to each get our own wonton noodle soup. Decided on the latter plus an order of spicy pork buns. The wonton noodle soup was a soy flavored soup base and was more on the salty versus savory side. The noodles were thicker round softer noodles and not the traditional thin chewy egg noodles I'm used to in California. The wontons themselves had a soft savory pork filling that had a consistent texture throughout covered in a delicate wrap. The spicy pork buns were smaller than what I'm used to, but it came out piping hot with a deliciously crafted bun that had a great bounce and chewy snap to it. Inside was flavorfully savory with a great balance to the outside. I wish they offered a non spicy option as well for those that don't like spice. I still really enjoyed these as they are a rare find at any Chinese establishments. Definitely worth adding this to your meal order, plus it would be easy to take home, if you didn't finish, but we ate those buns all up anyways. However, I do regret getting two wonton noodles soup. Definitely try ordering a variety. Maybe the XLBs, the Peking Duck looked amazing at another table, some dry noodles... I guess I'll be back!

I'm giving this restaurant a 3 star mainly because of the consist pepper that was used throughout a lot of dishes. I was excited to try all the foods pictured, but my experience was a bit tainted by the tingling sensation that the pepper provided. I tend to like spicy food A LOT, but that tingling sensation made me uneasy. The service was fine and the location was nice. They played great music while I dined in and I always appreciate that. The star of the show was the Duck Fried Rice. That dish alone is worth a 5 star review.

Gotta love Printer's Row - real trendy, and Chicago's own Chengdu Bistro fits int a great niche! While walking around on a cool, cloudy Saturday, 4 of us decided to head on in - the killer food to eat - so I thought- would be the pork/crab soup dumplings! The ambience was modern, really cool. We were seated quickly and noted the staff was all Asian (mostly Chinese - a good sign, right?). With menus arriving quickly, we pored over the offerings. We quickly ordered: 2 bowls of Dan Dan Noodles. Nice, beautifully made noodles; just the right taste - though a bit more muted than my SoCal trained taste buds were used to? They worked! 1 - order Sichuan Sausage - man, these little things were spicy. Nice. 1 order Xiao Long Bao (pork/crab dumplings). Normally I go ape over these little morsels! Sadly, they reminded me of the promise I'd hoped for- yet never received- at Phat Phat in Schaumburg. Just not my taste - had a bit of a dried spice overtone. Not appealing. 1 order Peking duck fried rice. Definitely a meatier, richer flavor. I'd order again! 1 order Yangzhou Fried Rice. Oh my. Looked lovely. Just had little to no specific taste. Not worth a second round unless BLAND is your go-to fav-flavor. So - why the 3 stars? Ok- gotta say service was fast and efficient and the ambience was spot on. But man. The food quality just varied too widely to say it was a great meal, you know? Try it and let me know if you agree or disagree?

This is a really cute Chinese restaurant located in printers row. The decoration is modern and clean. Service was fast and attentive. We loved our noodle soup which was the beef brisket noodle and the hot and sour glass noodle. The flavor was perfect and not overly oily. The dumplings were okay. Would love to return to try out more noodle soup!!

This is great spot for a cozy and casual dinner. The service was great and portions were fantastic. Soups are a little hard to share, I wish they had bigger shareable bowls. The dry chili chicken and beef dumplings really stood out! I will 100% return.

I stopped in for lunch here with some friends today. It was delish! Their space is really cute and the perfect size. It's a great addition to Printers Row! We shared a few dishes, the pork and crab soup dumplings, shrimp shumai, Dan Dan noodles, and spicy wonton soup. Everything tasted really good! The service is great, a man took our order within about 10 minutes of us sitting down and then maybe about 15-20 min later we received our dishes. They refilled our water regularly and brought a device over to us for paying. Easy peasy. It's a Friday at lunch time, there were maybe 3-4 other tables of people. I hope this place stays in the neighborhood!

Wow! This food is amazing! Best dumplings I've ever had! The sauce was so good. I wish I had ordered more. I'll come back and order lots more. The Peking duck fried rice is very tasty too, and the Dan Dan noodles are fantastic! Lovely variety of beverages. My iced lemon black tea was delicious and refreshing. My boyfriend had the rose blossom lemonade and that was great too. Attentive service. Cool decor. Very warm and inviting. This place is always busy and I can see why. It's excellent and I highly recommend.

Love that we have some more solid restaurants in the south loop! Still in its soft opening, but very much functioning like a well oiled machine. I came in on the earlier side to eat dinner and the entire staff was very attentive and helpful. There weren't many people dining around 4pm, and at one point I was the only customer dining in. I ordered the garlic cucumber salad and the Peking duck fried rice. Both were really good, well prepared. Would love to try more things on another visit.

Chengdu Bistro is a much needed addition to South Loop as far as Chinese food goes. I've been here several times and have really enjoyed every dish I've had. Some standouts for me are the Dan Dan noodles, Zajiang noodles, and Xiao Long Bao. The Sichuan Spicy Beef Noodle Soup is not for the faint of heart. The spices will leave your mouth tingly and numb, but the flavors are amazing. Love the ambiance and staff as well.

This restaurant is great! The food is delicious and plenty of heat if you want it--also dishes that are not spicy. Menu has plenty to choose from. Some of the best Sichuan food anywhere. Excellent, friendly service. Lovely ambiance. Right in Printer's row, lots of street parking. Highly recommended!

Visiting Chicago from Hawaii. We were drinking at a bar across the street from the restaurant. My husband wasnt feeling well so I ran across the street. They were already closing but the server still took 1 last order! It was a life saver for when we got back to the hotel room. I ordered the wonton noodle soup. EVERYTHING WAS FRESH and made with love. On our very last night on January 19 2026 before going back to Hawaii we decided to have our dinner here. Service was amazing, food was absolutely delicious. We even ordered some items TWICE. We ordered the cucumber salad x 2, shrimp shumai x 2, dan dan noodles, peking duck fried rice, wonton noodle soup, beef with spicy sauce, and bao everything was bomb. Mahalo again, and if we ever come back to Chicago we will definitely come back!

Delicious. Absolutely delicious. Definitely a great addition to the area and if the soft opening is anything to go by - this place will be extremely popular for years to come.

We walked by this place a couple times, and we saw really good reviews so we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is very clean, nicely decorated, and conveniently located in south loop. We got seated right the way, we ordered the crab and pork soup dumplings, braised beef noodle soup and sichuan Zaijiang noodles. There's no soup in the soup dumplings, we're kinda disappointed. The braised beef noodle soup broth is kind of bland, I can only taste the soy sauce from the broth. I'm not sure if it's just the items we ordered, maybe we will give it another try after their grand opening.

I've been to their other location and I like that this one is much more spacious inside. Their menus, service and food quality are the same. It was easy to find street parking. I've loved all of the dishes I've ordered here.

I've done here 2x now since their soft opening and so far I think the food is good but their other location is better. The beef noodle soup is good and filling $14.50 and definitely can be shared by two people. The duck fried rice was ok and the dumplings (pork and chive) was tasty. Service could be a little better ..they forgot out dumplings and you have to pay extra for rice even if you order a main dish.

Saw that this place was a doing a soft opening and I was CRAVING dumplings The service was incredible, fast and had some great recommendations! The dumplings were tender and the filling was well seasoned. The dan noodles were delicious! They weren't incredibly spicy (make sure to ask for chili oil). The noodles were perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of chew. I'll be coming back this winter!

Oh my god these noodles are AMAZING! I genuinely can't believe I ever thought noodles were good before this. I heavily recommend getting any noodle dish. The service was really nice. We went for the soft opening and they were incredibly attentive and made recommendations on the menu. The restaurant itself was very clean and the vibe was really cute. Can't wait to come back for the full menu

Taste bad. Overly sweet. Lazi Chicken was ok. Didn't like the wontons. And the beans tasted ok but very oily.

We came during the soft opening on a Saturday morning. The place is clean and feels spacious. It started to get crowded around noon. The server gave us a nice spot by the window and was attentive. They have a good selection of boba teas, but we opted to dive right into the entrees. We ordered the Sichuan Zajian Noodles, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, and the Mushroom Bao. All the items came out pretty fast. The Zajian noodle was al dente, not too soft. We had the thick noodles which I prefer for the texture. This dish was a little spicy, but not too much of a kick to it. The beef in the noodle soup was well marinated. I found the soup base to be a little too salty. This dish is a lot spicier with the numbing peppercorn that is typical of Sichuan dishes. The Mushroom Bao was vegetarian and taste is very mild. The carb helped my friend who doesn't eat a lot of spicy food to cool off her tongue from the Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. It is a casual place. When I return next time, Dry Chili Chicken, which looked to be much spicer.

Thrilled that a new Chinese spot opened in South Loop. We've been here a few times and always gravitate to these dishes. The wontons could have been more spicy and numbing, but the chicken was crispy and flavorful. Great spot to have in the neighborhood!

I've been hearing great things about this restaurant in Wicker Park, so I was very excited to find out they expanded into a second location in South Loop. Overall, the food was very good and I would definitely come back and bring more friends to try as well. The dry chilli chicken and string beans were our favorite. The beef noodle soup had potential but it was unfortunately very salty. The wontons and dumplings sadly did not live up to our expectations as it had a very obvious "porky" taste to them. Regardless, it was a very delicious meal and definitely look forward to the next visit to try their other dishes.

An amazing clean restaurant with excellent service and exceptional food. Definitely worth a try. You won't regret it.

Ohh! This used to be Caribbean Jerk Palace. Remember that! The first location is in Wicker Park which I haven't been too. I had the Veggie Egg Rolls. The staff and service are chengduriffic.

Food was amazing! We got the cold noodles and soup dumplings and loved both. The noodles were really well seasoned.

Overpriced, slow service, very unimpressed with the food quality. Would not recommend we have so many other great choices in the downtown area.

OK, OK Chicago I see you. I just landed and I'm staying in the loop and I wanted some Chinese food and I came across this spot. I give this restaurant an 11/10!!!. The food is so flavorful very filling, tender fresh. I am so glad that my first meal in Chicago was this restaurant. The service was great and fast. Definitely recommend.

Wow! Excellent noodle bowls with the right amount of kick. I ordered the Szechuan Noodle Bowl with thick noodles and the Pork and Cabbage Steamed Dumplings. I came hungry and barely finished the noodle bowl. The dumplings were tender and delicious (had to wrap up most of them to take home). Service was attentive and friendly. The dining room was neat and clean with great background music. I highly recommend this place if you want great Asian food at a fair price.

The Kung Pao chicken is probably the best version I've ever had. It's a slow burn spice that leaves your mouth numb but also has great flavor. Dan Dan noodles were on point and the pot stickers were also very good. A strong start for a soft opening. Would highly recommend for spicy food lovers!

Such an amazing place added to Printers Row! Food was phenomenal. We ordered the vegetable dumplings, pork and chive dumplings, string beans, vegetable dan dan noodles, crab Rangoon, and a mochi dessert. They have many vegetarian options which is great and they're separated on the menu making it easy to choose. I would definitely come back here and try a few different dishes next time!

The fried rice and egg rolls were really good. They had a limited menu (soft open) when I went but based on what I ate I will definitely go back!

The food was excellent. I wanted to keep eating but unfortunately was too full. The Sechuan style pork bun was great and unique. The kung pao chicken and Dan Dan noodles were also delicious. The restaurant was nice and clean.

I'm so glad that Chinatown quality has arrived in my neighborhood. The dumplings and noodles are on par with the very best I've had in the US. The spicy string beans are an absolute must order. The space is really nice but service can get a little stretched during the busiest dinner time hours. They sell out of some items, such as the duck, so arrive early to assure the best experience.

The food is very yummy but they will prioritize certain costumers. Many people came in after me and were served food and drinks before me. I had to wait almost 40 minutes for dumplings while others with larger meals came right out.

Went for lunch with a friend today. Didn't know that we had a new Chinese restaurant in South Loop. The food was very tasty. The steamed buns were very delicious. We ordered the Dan Dan noodles, steamed buns and spicy beef noodles soup, and they were all very tasty.
