Philly’s Best Chinese Restaurants | Eater Philly

"Co-owned by Sichuan native and Drexel graduate Mark Rao, this hip and modern Sichuan spot in Powelton Village has laid-back vibes with a cheery, playful panda mural by Chinese artist Chenlin Cai. Executive chef Jack Xue (formerly of Jane G’s) trained in Chengdu in the 1970s; here, he spoils diners with crispy, gooey twice-cooked trotters doused in leeks and fermented broad beans, sour and spicy beef soup with glassy noodles and pickled mustard greens, cumin Mongolian lamb, and diced, baked chicken thighs loaded with celery and peppers." - Diana Lu

Google
I’ve been coming to Chengdu Famous Food regularly—it truly feels like my second dining hall. The food is made by authentic chefs and aunties from Sichuan, and it shows: every dish is bursting with flavor, the portions are generous, and the prices are incredibly fair. What really sets this place apart is the warmth of the service. Every staff member is kind, attentive, and welcoming. It’s rare to find a place that tastes like home and treats you like family. If you're craving real Sichuan food near Penn or Drexel, this is the spot. Highly recommended!

Such a lovely Chinese lady here—she’s always super nice and helpful every time we come. She even gives us little treats sometimes! The food is also super authentic and delicious. Love this place!

Google
Many authentic dishes to try. I’ve had cumin style chicken, ma po tofu, and a few noodle dishes. Rice stand out too. Restaurant is smaller and service is geared towards take out. Menu is via QR code and webapp, will be back

The service was absolutely horrible. I have been to thousands of Chinese restaurants through the world. The middle Aged server was on a FaceTime call and completely ignored customers while customers were waiting. I had to go up to the cashier to order my food and the owner the sever was busy on a phone call ignoring customers. The server was very lousy and lazy. Spent the whole time talking on the phone. It was disappointing to see as I liked the concept of Sichuan province food from Chengdu city. I will definitely not return again and will not recommend the restaurant to anyone. There are better spots in University city like Han dynasty and a flock of other restaurants in Chinatown. In conclusion, the food was amazing but the service was horrible.

Update 2025: We haven’t been in a while. Came today and every dish was cooked to perfection. I won’t make it a regular place for me because it’s a bit pricey overall, but I can’t ask for more from the dishes themselves. 10/10 quality food and service We spent about $100 without tip on 6 dishes (photos included). Oh and I love that the manager/owner has a good sense of humor in the reviews!! We’ll be back, but maybe one dish at a time to keep the spending down. 2022: Certain dishes are excellent. The last time I ordered (dumplings in chili oil and general tsos) I didn’t really like it much. Totally different flavor level from what I have come to expect from this place based on other dishes like the potatos and double—fried spicy chicken dish. Prices are much better direct than through online and delivery services.

Google
A small restaurant with decent food. Went in for dinner and had their famous master hot chicken. Really liked it. Maybe i didn’t need the rice with it as it was pretty dry. My friend had souply glass noodles with pork. It was delicious. The only problem was the smell of the oil because of all the fried food that made me feel suffocated. The service was pretty decent too.

Google
A gem in Ucity! The service was friendly, food was great, and the open kitchen concept was an additional treat! The mild spice was just right and each dish was fragrant and exploding with flavor. Chef Z’s pork dumplings were the best we’ve had in the city! The chicken dry pot was perfectly prepared and presented. Lastly, the garlic purée on top of the cucumber appetizer was *chef’s kiss.* would 10/10 recommend!

Google
I bookmarked this place because I wanted to try out some new Szechuan food. And since I’m around the area, my friend and I decided to try this place out. First impression of the place is, it’s small. Definitely a family owned business, one of those mom and pop shop kinda restaurants. The price seems slightly high for such a small store but probably because it’s close by or around University City. But overall, their food does taste pretty good, not bad if you into Szechuan and spicy food. My husband and I particularly enjoyed the beef hot pot. It was delicious! Spicy but still so yummy! It was somewhat pricey for us when we saw the dish cost $25, but when the dish arrives, we realized there are clear noodles underneath all the veggies and beef. That one dish got a decent portion too. I had a spicy wonton appetizer and i am very full sharing the beef hot pot with my husband. If I do come back, most likely we will order that again.

Yelp
Chengdu Famous Food serves up authentic Sichuan cuisine, perfect for any spice lovers, in a casual setting. With their highly extensive and customizable menu, any vegetarian or meat-lover will find options they'd enjoy. --- Chengdu Famous Food is one of my personal favorites when I'm craving authentic Chinese food. The ordering is through QR code and the menu is extensive- with many options of dishes with proteins and/or vegetables. The online ordering lets you customize your dishes to the max and also select if there are any allergens you need removed from the food. Maybe most relevant, their system also lets you add spice level, substitutions, and sides of rice. Later on, you can either check out via the online website or ring up at the counter. I've frequented Chengdu many times and I usually enjoy anything "master's xyz". This time as a party of two, we were self-seated instantly and ordered the Double Cooked Pork Belly (回锅肉) and the Shredded Potato Stir Fried w. Peppers (酸辣土豆丝), both mild. (I find their mild is always a true mild but their medium does tend towards the spicier side.) The pork belly had a lot more onions and bell peppers than I would've preferred, but the thin pork strips were tender. Though a little greasy, I enjoyed the dish a lot and found there to be a good amount of meat. The potato dish was a little sour and spicy. I really enjoyed how crisp, and not overcooked, the potato slices were. I didn't realize the pepper slices were spicy peppers, so I'd just be mindful for anyone with lower spice tolerance. I ordered two small white rice sides and one large rice side. I didn't realize the large rice size is probably ~ 5 small rice bowls and so we had too much rice, so I'd recommend either getting a small rice each (1 small bowl) or one large side. The service doesn't really check on you besides for initial seating (50/50 if it's self-seating), refill your water, or clear plates. The service is not rude but just very efficient, so they won't spend time chatting but will get your food to you very fast. On this occasion our food all arrived less than 10 minutes after ordering. The portions are very large, such that we needed take out containers and went to the counter to get these after our meal. As there's maybe only a dozen tables, it does get very crowded at times on the weekend, so I'd recommend coming early to grab a seat. On weekdays, I've found no issues finding a table. Everything I've tried on the menu is very delicious. I'd highly recommend trying Chengdu Famous Food!

Yelp
Came here recently for an early lunch and got a favorite plus some new treats. This time we tried: Chengdu Ignite Noodles: A long time favorite, it has a great combination of flavors and heat. Really good. Chengdu Jelly Noodles: These are served cold and have a bold chili oil sauce paired with wiggly noodles. Very spicy. Sweet Water Noodles: Mild brown sauce paired with thick noodles, a respite from the heat of the two other dishes. Tasty. Online ordering was quick and my order was ready in 15 minutes. Parking is hit and miss along Lancaster Avenue as this is busy with students and hospital employee parking, plus residents. Would definitely go back, and we have.

Yelp
I ordered my dishes via takeout on Doordash, so results may vary (and be even tastier) dining in at the restaurant. This review is based solely on food quality and flavor, excluding service or ambiance. The dry pot tofu dish was incredibly tasty, and the tofu was firm but still had a great spice level for the mild flavor that I ordered. The bean sprouts and garnish complemented the tofu well, and definitely order rice to accompany the dish itself. My fish and silken tofu was the relatively spicier one, but still had a great balance between spicy and flavorful. It can be a bit messy, so be careful with the sauce if you're ordering it to-go. The fish was soft and absorbed a lot of the flavors in the chili oil, and its texture worked well with the nuts in the dish. I'd definitely visit the restaurant itself as well to try more dishes, and overall really enjoyed the flavors!

Yelp
Food was really authentic and rich in taste. You would have to scan and use the table's QR code to order if you dine in. However, the web site did not recognize my credit card, and I have to end up ordering manually. Service was just mediocre not really great. It was dinner time and the place was filling up fast so the staff were not really patient when i reflected to them that the website did not recognize my credit card and I was unable to order using the QR code. Other than that, everything else went smoothly. In fact, the order came fast and was pretty efficient.

Yelp
The Chengdu Ignite Noodles are 10/10! Similar to Dan Dan noodles but the noodles itself were thinner and had some peanut flavor to them. The Master's Dry Chili Pepper Diced Chicken is quite spicy. We got both dishes at the "Spicy" level which I thought was the max I would go to enjoy the heat without compromising on the flavor - they do have two more levels above it if you are the daring kind. The service was super quick. They are not known for their customer service for good reason because they don't really smile at you or greet you. The interactions felt very detached. Some people may not like it but I was totally fine with it - I was there for food not to make friends.

Yelp
SPICY LOVER HEAVEN! Very good authentic and hearty Chinese food. Got spicy and non spicy options so everyone can enjoy! Pricey BUT worth even more if you go with a larger party.

Yelp
Amazing authentic Dan Dan noodles. Highly recommend. Great service too and easy checkout.

Yelp
Some of the best Szechuan food I've ever had. The service was top-notch, meaning attentive, timely, knowledgeable, and kind the place is comfortable, uniquely decorated, and when I visit the city again, I will definitely come down here. Highly recommended..

Yelp
I came here twice so far for lunch and both times I was quite satisfied with the food. Their Mapo Tofu is consistently great. 夫妻肺片 is not flavorful at all. Service is good with self ordering using a pad. Parking has been easy with street parking so far. Ambience is okay.

Yelp
I had food delivered. It was an order of shrimp fried rice, wonton soup, crispy pork dumplings, scallion pancakes,, and veggie spring rolls. Everything was delicious!

Yelp
A no frills spot near Drexel and UPenn. Good spot for a quick Chengdu Chinese if you can't make it to Chinatown for whatever reason. The food was good, just a little on the sour side. Spices were good though. Quick service and helpful.

Yelp
Cozy mom and pop style restaurant whipping out Chinese & Sichuan food. Think of a take out Chinese restaurant spot, sans the ugly plexiglass barrier, now add a place to sit and there you have Chengdu! The food is far from your usual Chinese takeout spot though. The flavors are wayyyy more elevated. And if you like spice, you'll be very pleased. It's not tamed down American spice level, it's the real deal! My food favorites were the pork lo mein, stir fried string beans and the spicy chili oil dumplings. The service is nothing to write home about. I actually had a reservation but there was no true check in, and tons of empty tables, so after establishing eye contact with the girl running the cash register, we just sat ourselves. Level set your expectations and enjoy the food!

Yelp
Delicious deliciousness. Dry Crispy Stir fried Beef was very, very good. In part because I've not seen it elsewhere. Looking forward to exploring a lot more of the menu than the steamed dragon eye dumplings, cucumbers, string beans. Of course we're already planning to get that Dry Crispy Stir fried Beef again. Clean, simple decor for not inexpensive food.

Yelp
Overall: really tasty, authentic Szechuan food with plenty of seating and good service This is a great spot in Philly for tasty, authentic Szechuan food. We ordered the Master's Special Diced Chicken, which was like a kung pao fried chicken. We also got the mala dry pot with lotus roots, wood ear fungus, bok choy, and tofu. The food is delicious, but be warned that it is extremely spicy. There are five spicy settings and we picked the middle one, but it was still extremely spicy. Rice has to be ordered separate. The restaurant interior is spacious and clean. There were plenty of open tables on a Saturday night. Service was fast and friendly.

Yelp
I had an amazing time here at Chengdu Famous Food. The food was crazy good and authentic! The service was very attentive and welcoming! The ambiance was very pleasant and fun! 5 stars!

Yelp
Yelp Review This restaurant offers a huge menu, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious! We dined in and enjoyed the tofu in garlic sauce, General Tso fish, sautéed string beans, Dan Dan noodles with chicken, and scallion pancakes--each dish was flavorful and well-prepared. The space is small but not cramped, and the cozy atmosphere adds to the experience. It's also BYOB, which is a nice touch.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is legit. Spicy, but they nail the spice level exactly what I wanted (your mileage may vary). Fast service, nothing special but very polite. The dining room has a college area vibe, stripped down and simple but clean. It's all about really good, fresh, well-executed, spicy Sichuan food. I'm a fan!

Yelp
We loved the food and the restaurant. We will visit again sometime soon. Highly recommend.

Yelp
The best Mongolian beef I've ever had. There was so much flavor it was very very delicious. When you come in you're seated and the menu is online and you also place your order online so there isn't much interaction with the host. It was quite packed when I went on a random weekday but I understand why cuz it was so so good! Will def recommend

Yelp
Ordered takeout from here. Casual atmosphere, and seemed pretty busy. My order was not ready when I arrived, and I was told it would be another 10 minutes. I do like that this restaurant gives you the option if you want rice or not. I ordered the fish dry pot and scallion pancake. The texture of the fish was very dry and seemed overcooked, but the málà was SERIOUS!! I ordered extra spicy, and my mouth was numb! Definitely loved the spice level on this dish. Scallion pancakes could have used more scallion, in my opinion, but were very flaky and delicious otherwise. I would come back here for the peppercorn numbing again.. Strongest of anywhere I've had in the area.

Yelp
I've never really visited China so I can't really call myself an expert. But over time, Sichuan food has become comfort food, even though I'm always reaching for the spiciest options and sweating/burning (aka loving it). Chengdu has been a staple favorite ever since I set foot in Philadelphia in 2019. I've tried many of the popular, more famous joints in the city and kept coming back here. Even after moving out of Philly and finding favorites in NJ (which in my opinion has some of the best Sichuan food, way better than NYC), Chengdu holds a special place in my heart. We came to Philly after a year and had to make a pit stop here despite being quite full. The Master's Special Diced Chicken (T5) is something I've not found anywhere else (or as good, at least) - crispy, filled with spice, has you sweating soon (even with regular spice levels), and something we tend to order on most visits here. We paired it with the Red dragon wonton (W4) this time, which has a sweet/tingly broth and is delicious yet light. I packed a large side of rice after wrapping up the leftover chicken and the person didn't even charge me for it. I don't know if I could not love this place, ever. Other favorites include the Dan Dan noodles, fish in chili oil, dry pot, scallion pancakes... Okay, have to visit Philly more often.

Yelp
The interior was clean. Service was quick. For the food, the tiny baozi tasted like microwaved food and the 麻辣拌 was authentic and good!

Yelp
My friend and his gf loved it, but I also saw concerning reviews and tried anyways and regret it. One of the worst delivery foods I've had. Actually it may be the first time we threw away an entire order (5 items). The food here is sub-mediocre at best and extremely overpriced. I consider myself a foodie and I'd try pretty much everything, and Chengdu is a two thumbs down. It is as if this place sells the reject meat/offal from a failed butcher shop and sells at premium prices. That gristle /tendon etc most people cut off? They scrape all that and serve it to you (metaphorically speaking). 1. Crispy "pork" dumplings - sweet meat with pungent old grease. It comes with no sauces and any sauces at all were extra charge. We did see that, but we had assumed if you wanted EXTRA sauce they'd charge which makes perfect sense. But they charge period. Never have I ever had French fries and got charged for ketchup. Never have I ever had chicken nuggets and got charged for BBQ sauce. Never have I ever had egg rolls and got charged duck sauce. I can go on forever. Even fancy salads give you one serving of dressing "gratis." Dipping sauce is a dumpling must. How hard is it for them give a tablespoon of a concoction of soy sauce, sugar, and vinegar? For $15, I'm disappointed in their service. It's this nickle and diming principle that's grinding my gears. At this rate, Morimoto and Del Frisco's are a far better deal. Cheap meat - given how the other four items are served, it's probably ground tendons and cartilage advertised as minced/ground pork meat. Also $2 for 2 oz black vinegar?! You can get a 20 oz bottle of that for like 4 buckaroos. They are out of their flippin' minds. I have a bottle of that in my fridge so I laughed so hard they were trying to pull this grimy stunt. And they advertise it as Chinese "balsamic vinegar" as a pathetic attempt to sound fancy. It is Chinese black vinegar. None of this aging in fancy barrels they're trying to imply. I know times are tough but dang...! No one is asking for imported Italian truffle grown in Hawaiian volcanic ash harvested during blood moon aioli. 2. Chef Z "pork" dumplings were so-so, but not good enough to save it from a one Star and most certainly not worth $13. They're fine, but still fathoms below those of Han Dynasty. The skin rips apart when you pick one up because they're all stuck to one another. Han's Dynasty does not do that, even after refrigerating overnight. You can tell it is all cheap meat also. I am willing to bet this is also ground up cartilage and tendon as well just like the aforementioned. 3. Burger Double Cooked Pork Belly (one piece) for $10. You get one bao (similar to that they use for Peking duck). All lard. This was not pork belly. 4. My fiance got some beyond-cheap (quality cheap) knock-off of Hans Dan Dan noodles. Noodles were dried up. Don't remember what it's called but that went straight in the trash too. 5. Beef brisket soup $17 - no brisket. All cartilage and tendon. Three leaves of bok choy. Buckwheat noodles? Nooo, honey these are full blown all-purpose flour glutenous lo mein noodles. If I had known I would have gotten it with glass noodles, but that is probably a lie too. I got like 2.5 niblets of brisket. My cats' kibbles are bigger that the brisket meat that was actuslly present. Do these people know what brisket is? Broth - imagine a very very diluted beef bouillon cube.... as if they have one cube to last them the entire business day from open to close. --- What a wasted $80 after fees and such from ubereats... such a bummer. This place is SO expensive for what it is and is NOT worth a fraction of a ruble. My parents would not be caught dead serving this nonsense at their restaurants. Chengdu should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

Anna D.

Yelp
Some of the most delicious food I've ever had. Everytime I'm in Philly for the weekend, I eat here TWICE. The ignite noodles are amazing amazing. Words cannot describe how delicious everything is. I'm in food heaven everytime.

Boang Y.

Yelp
Foood is exquisite! Traditional Chengdu kitchen making authentic Sichuan dishes. If you can take spicy food, do not miss this spot!
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
If you like spicy food... this is your perfect place. I always make the mistake of underestimating the spicy level of Szechuan food. We had ordered all the dishes in "mild" level and I was over there dying of heat. *especially the dry pot* My fish fillet dry pot was so spicy I had to ask the staff if they could actually somehow take off the spice for me. It was very nice of them - they took my dish and cooked it with water to take away the spice (which they didn't have to so it was a nice gesture). Everything we had here was delicious! I would definitely come back again and order the lowest spicy level. The way you order your food is from a QR code designated for each table and you order contactless through your phone and they would bring food to your table once it's ready. I really like this system!
google avatar

Benjamin R.

Yelp
Way overpriced for that portion. Very disappointing. Maybe the prices are lower for dine in than take out.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
FOOD: -Dan Dan Noodles 5/5 Loved the noodle texture and the sauce was a good balance of nuttiness (good balance with spicy dishes) -Dry Pot 3.5/5 Does not come with any protein by default. We got level spicy and it was indeed spicy. I've had better flavorful drypot before -Crispy Pepper Chicken 5/5 Decent amount of small pieces of fried chicken. The spiciness was delicious, though a tad salt for my liking. SERVICE: They gave us cups with cracks in it. I went up to the front to ask for different cups. They told me they didnt have anymore in the back, although I saw a couple in the fridge and it was not a full house that night. They also said it shouldn't leak.. one of the two couples did in fact leak.

Di S.

Yelp
Philly has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to szechuan restaurants. Would totally try the chilled fungus dish and vegetarian Dan Dan noodles again! Medium spice was spicy for me and I'm accustomed to spice.
google avatar

Yelp
Chengdu Famous Foods is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in Philly, and is definitely my favorite in University City. Everything I have ordered here has been so delicious and authentic, and I am never disappointed when I come here and order something different. The Dan Dan Noodles is the best one I've had. It was the perfect combination of sweet and savory. The Pork Belly also blew me away, and I just couldn't have enough of it. One of the best parts of coming here is that the menu is so diverse that I don't think I'll ever be able to try everything, and anything I do try, I know will be amazing. I definitely recommend coming here if you are craving flavorful Sichuan food. Side note: bring cash for a 5% discount!

Yelp
A small restaurant that you might easily overlook from the outside. From the inside it is a simple restaurant, nothing out of the ordinary with a few tables. The staff was nice and helpful. We ordered some food to start off. Most of the food has basically the same flavors of chili oil, but the meats were well cooked and nicely done. We got the medium spicy and those were really spicy for some of the group. If you average spice tolerance then mild medium spicy might be the way to go. The Mr and Mrs Smith was really good. Nice textures and flavor: certainly a go to appetizer. We got some of the dumplings as well but it's very oily. Anything that is fried came out super oily; which is quite the disappointment but at least the oil isn't super dirty from the taste of the food The lamb dry pot was nicely done. Good strong flavors. The bone in rabbit was good, but if you are not ok with bones 100% don't get it. Some of the bones are soft enough to were you can eat it with the meat at times though. All in all a decent place but certainly a bit pricey. Flavors were good if you love spicy food, but if not I'd recommend going mild. They certainly need to make sure their foods are not as oily though. A nice once in a while place or if you want to try something new though.

Yelp
Amazing, authentic Chinese food that is too underrated!! Not what I expected the pig trotters dish to look but, but boy did it exceed expectations! Tomato egg was very authentic. The wontons were delicious, and noodles were the right consistency. I would come back without hesitation and try out more dishes on the menu!!

Yelp
This store is a definite hole-in-the-wall that's a secret among the locals! There were many people inside and both ordering takeout. I've ordered from Chengdu a few times before through UberEats and loved their food, so I decided to come in person. I got the stir fried string beans and master's special chicken. Both dishes were so good and juicy. They are on the pricier side, but still so worth it. You have to order rice on the side, but they are very cheap. I got two small rice bowls for $1 extra. The store is also very hip. There were very cool designs on the walls, and their fridge behind the counter had many stickers on it. Would definitely recommend the food here!

Yelp
One of the more authentic Szechuan places in philly! Food: I've had the beef and fish dry pots (very spicy so get mild if you can't take spice), sautéed string beans, baked chicken with pepper, mala rabbit (CRAZY spicy)? Price: One star taken off for price and portion size (4 dishes cost 80 dollars and the portions aren't big on protein) You can dine in and order via scanning which is convenient!

Yelp
A small restaurant that is easily visible from the outside. From the inside, it's a simple restaurant, with a few tables and a simple, casual dining experience Just my opinion
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
QR code menu that's too complicated, non speaking, non communicative servers, cooks that pay no attention to the ordered spice level. Crappy service, inedible food.
google avatar

Christina V.

Yelp
Holy moly, my new absolute favorite place for authentic Sichuan food! I tried it for the first time recently and literally called or texted whoever I knew that loved Sichuan food to tell them to stop ordering from anywhere else and try here! Service was super friendly, I told the person taking my order I wouldn't eat it for several hours and she made some great recommendations! I had the ignite noodles (like spicy Chinese spaghetti) and a stir fried pork belly dish. Wowza! Such a great taste profile, there were more complex flavors, not just spice which most other Szechuan places offer. Yes it will be super spicy, I didn't even augment the spice and glad I didn't, I don't think I could have handled it any spicier. And now I see they have a "happy hour" with tea?? I am sooo down for that!
google avatar

Gerardo Z.

Yelp
UPDATE: restaurant did the right thing and refunded the order. Thank you! Unacceptable food given what was ordered. When we went there it was excellent, don't know what happened here when we ordered takeout. $100 does not equal two plates. Everything is cold. Also mixed vegetable and meat. Called and doesn't have a phone number. Unbelievable and crazy. Totally ruined a night

Delicious food, wide variety. Small store, little to no interaction with waiters or waitresses (not something I'm fond of) and it's possible you'll get a dirty cup. Expensive, but the quality of food saves this place.

Yelp
(Four stars means "I would make a special trip just to eat there again".) I did not know there was a Sichuan restaurant in this neighborhood. We were very excited to go and we were not disappointed. The menu has many dishes I have never tried before, not just Americanized dishes. I got twice-cooked pork belly, which is stir fried with leeks My companion got a beautiful dish of spicy shredded beef and dried Sichuan peppers, scallions, Sichuan peppercorns, and garlic. We also bought a bottle of water and a carton of soy milk. Total cost was around $30, and we brought half the food home to eat later. I plan to certainly return. They have a 5% discount for cash Caution: the web site claims they have outdoor seating. They have outdoor seating for exactly *two* people.

Yelp
I think the over all taste is not bad but for sure all 3 dishes were made with too made oil and salt. Need to make sure you pick low salt and oil when you ordered

Yelp
Seriously the best Sichuan food around. You have to try any one of their dry pots as well as their "Red Dragon Wontons".

Yelp
I've eaten here a number of times starting summer of 2021 and the food started off pretty good if not overpriced. The ignite noodles and the Szechuan wontons are always good. However... the third time we are here the food was extremely salty... as in nearly inedible. The order was a hot pot snd chengdu masters chicken and cumin beef. We chalked it up to a bad night or new chef and made no complaint. Came back again and it was good. The next time we came back SALTY again. It's like it's hit or miss whether the food is going to be incredibly salty. I love Szechuan food and expect it to be pretty salty. This is too salty to enjoy. I'm leaving this so maybe the chefs take measures to keep this from happening because I can't keep spending that type of money to maybe get food that's not to salty to eat. Sorry for the bad review guys... but it's a problem.

Yelp
- Type: very authentic Szechuan cuisine place. Order over-the-counter and sit down to wait for the food. - Service: very friendly. - Vibe: casual in the heart of University City. - Food: ordered a stir-fried cabbage, spicy dry pot beef and double-cooked pork belly. Came with two complimentary bowls of rice with free fill-up as well. Portion size was right on the spot for the two of us. All were nicely flavored with quite authentic Szechuan spicy seasoning, very richly hot but not overwhelming. The double-cooked pork belly was in delicate thin slices, which was a surprise given how other Szechuan places might had prepared the dish. But the pork belly dish was also too oily; should have been drained a bit more. - Price: $15-$20 per person, very affordable.

Yelp
Fantastic Sichuan food at a reasonable price. Part of me thinks this could be even cheaper, but still, most dishes are under $16 and it's some of the most authentic Chinese food you'll find in the city. You get unlimited rice refills and for the level of spice this place brings, you'll need it. For the three of us we ordered Szechuan style pork belly(川氏红烧肉), a spicy fish fillet pot, four seasons green beans(四季豆)and a spicy chicken pot (辣子鸡.)The pork belly was on the sweeter side and not spicy at all, so it complemented the other dishes well. The fish fillet pot has that characteristic ma-la (numbing spice) which I liked, but my boyfriend thought was too numb. The chicken pot was too spicy and fried for my liking but I enjoyed the pork belly and fish. The last time we came we got 夫妻肺片 - husband and wife lungs? Not sure how it translates, but that was really good. I'd definitely come back here for more casula meals with friends.

Yelp
We live in the Powelton neighborhood and for the first time ordered pick up from Chengdu. The food is very good, but it didn't include soy sauce, which I can say from NYC to Philly is a given. I went back to the restaurant to get soy sauce, thinking it no big deal, and was told I would have to pay for it. I said that is ridiculous and would not frequent their restaurant again.

Yelp
Seems like the food here has gotten better this time. Very pricey when order Uber eat for the portion you get. Had the boiled beef and pig intestine both in the spiciest level and they were delicious. It is very authentic Sichuan food.
