The 38 Best Restaurants in Honolulu, Hawai‘i | Eater

"California import Chengdu Taste helped bring Sichuan cuisine to Honolulu. Between the boiled fish with green peppers and the toothpick cumin lamb, it’s all about Sichuan classics executed with finesse. The menu can be intimidatingly spicy; order the beancurd sheets with scallion sauce, twice-cooked pork, and fried buns to help soothe your tastebuds. Best for: Casual dinner with a group — the menu is long and portions are heaping." - Martha Cheng

Dinner at this restaurant was a good experience! Authentic Chinese, Sichuan cuisine indeed. Food quality was good, flavourful for the most number of dishes ordered. The hot and sour soup could have been more on the sour side, but it tasted more peppery somehow. The ong choy with fermented beancurd was rather tasty. So were the shrimp fried rice and twice cooked pork. The sautéed potato strips with red chilli and vinegar could have been more tangy as well. Overall, a wonderful dining place which can remind one of comfort Chinese homecooked cuisine.

Food was good. The only difficulty was finding parking in the area. We ordered tomato eggs, fish in pickled vegetable soup, spicy pepper chicken. All solid choices.

Google
Visited many times, some dishes are authentic while some are not! One of the most signature Sichuan dishes, chilli diced chicken has not even reached the average, while the month watering chicken is excellent. The fried chicken gristle was very good as usual tho. Parking is not that easy there as well. ------- Visited again in 2025, having something different, something I usually don't order for Sichuan food. It turned out to be very unsatisfactory. The Dongpo Hock was too spicy which is supposed to be soy sauce braised to be authentic. Tried their chitlins(intestines) many times but first time try in boiled hot sauce, very greasy and the intestines didn't seem to be cleaned properly this time. The Bobo chicken tastes good but without chicken feet is very disappointing. The most terrible dish this time was the sauté eggplant with spicy garlic sauce, I tried that before and it was good, but this time, I think they used over mature eggplant, the skin of the eggplant tasted like a cow skin, very plastic like, hard to bite, can be the worst dish I've ever tried here. Overall, the quality of the foods here can be very unstable. Very pitiful.

Google
We got the beef griddle and it was tasty and the portion was huge. On the side, we also had the wonton and the tantan noodle. The noodle was amazingly cooked al dente. The chew of the noodle and the dressing were great. The wonton’s skin was a little on the thicker side. Overall, food was delicious and greatly priced. The place is kept very clean and spacious. Service was good.

Since my wife and I are on the big island, there are very few authentic Sichuan dishes. We had a great time today, the taste was good, and the waiter was very friendly

Google
Hands down the best Chinese food we had on Oahu island. The red chili oil is so fragrant and each dish was cooked properly. Especially the crispy rice with shrimp is our favorite. The price is quite reasonable too, with a big enough portion. It is a rare find and we will come back again!

During my trip to Hawaii, I saw this restaurant highly recommended on Xiaohongshu, so I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing experience in terms of both the food and the service. First, the food did not meet my expectations for authentic Sichuan cuisine. The flavors were mediocre and didn’t match what the restaurant’s name promised. Of course, everyone has different tastes when it comes to food, so this is just my personal opinion. Second, the service was almost nonexistent. Throughout the entire meal, not a single staff member came to check on us or ask if we needed anything. It felt like we were completely ignored after placing our order. I believe the lack of competition might be why this restaurant feels it can serve food and provide service so casually. For visitors and fans of Sichuan cuisine, this kind of attitude is very disappointing. I won’t be coming back, nor would I recommend this place.

Amazing authentic Szechuan food. Good proximity to Waikiki without being in an overly crowded area.

Yelp
This is always the place for great food and services. We got the following items Boiled Sliced Fish in Hot Sauce Hot and Sour Soup Shrimp Fried Rice Duck in SiChuan Style ( Half ) Toothpick Lamb with Cumin Spicy Flavored Hock

Yelp
Authentic Sichuan food. It's been windy all week in Honolulu and I've been thinking about some Sichuan spicy fish stew. I've decided to get boiled sliced fish in hot sauce and pickled shredded potatoes thru Uber eats. Food were appropriately packaged and promptly delivered. Delicious and generously portioned. Will try other things in the menu next time.

Yelp
Their rice! Dry. Not sure why??? As if they keep the rice cooker lid open or slightly ajar at all times. The purpose of this one star rating is to get the attention of someone who can make a change. On their dishes, I would give 5 stars. On their productivity and service, 5 stars. So, please, coming from a Chinese dude who is also a chef, just fix your rice, so that I may adjust this rating to a 5!!! Forgot to mention, we've been coming to this restaurant since it first opened some years ago...maybe once per month. Love it!! But we are a Chinese community, Chinese cuisine...how do we not take more care in how we serve rice? This has to improve, no? Especially as a palate cleanser to the spicy and oily nature of central Chinese cuisine. Am I wrong?

Yelp
I've always heard about this place so I decided that today was the day to stop by! My boyfriend and I arrived around 5:05pm on a Wednesday and it wasn't crowded since they just opened. The interior is modern meets Chinese culture. It was so beautiful! We were seated and the staff wasn't friendly and didn't say much. You order through a QR code on the table which was convenient. The water given was absolutely horrendous. It tasted so metallic as if there were coins in the water. The water pitcher and cups were made of a metal but it tasted so bad the taste made me nauseous. I got the Flavored Spicy Beef Noodle and my boyfriend got the Sautéed Beef with Onions. When our food came, the server would just place the plate on the table, not even look at us or say anything, and just walk away. Although the service was bad, we were impressed with the our meals. The noodles were perfectly bouncy and had just the right amount of heat to make your mouth tingle but not enough to cause any discomfort. The Sautéed Beef with Onions was surprisingly delicious. At first my boyfriend was hesitant to order it since he thought he'd be able to make it at home and wanted to try something more complex. The beef was thinly sliced with the perfect amount of flavor. The onions were so crunchy and fresh that it added a different texture which paired nicely. Also the beef doesn't come with rice so you'll have to order it on the side. Although the food was great, I'm giving this place a 3 stars because of the awful water and terrible service. I understand not everyone is cheerful or friendly at work but a simple smile or a couple of words would have been nice and polite. It literally felt like we were bothering them by eating at the restaurant. Come here if you want good food but stay away if you're looking for decent service.

Yelp
***4.5 STARS*** I enjoy spicy food but have noticed my heat tolerance levels aren't as high like before. Perhaps, I'm often dining with my family where favorite niece and nephew by default can both pack a punch. I don't think I could have handled the kiddies' spice levels when I was at their age. Favorite niece by default graduated from medical school last month and she chose the graduation dinner venue: Chengdu Taste (CT), a Szechuan restaurant chain that hails from Southern California that had been under my radar for quite some time now. Located on the 2F of 808 Center, I've often passed CT when I patronize my go to sushi restaurant which is on the 3F of 808 Center. I've witnessed many Chinese speaking patrons come here and in my books, that's a good sign of my the cuisine's authenticity. CT has been at 808 Center (1F) since 2016 and relocated to 2F location since Feb 2019, with sister restaurant Mian taking over the 1F spot. Upon entry, I was impressed with the upbeat ambiance with bright lighting and bold colors in decor. Staff greeted me and led me to our table as one of my family members arrived first. Great first impression. Favorite niece and nephew have been to CT before so they took lead with ordering. My sister and I also added a couple of dishes that were appealing. Food order is submitted via QR code and our wait didn't seem long as we were discussing the graduation ceremony. As expected, the food here at CT is overall spicy but there are some dishes without heat so reach out to the staff for suggestions. Crowd favorites were the beancurd sheets in scallion sauce, bo bo chicken, Szechuan noodles dan dan style and the toothpick lamb in cumin. The kiddies really enjoyed the mao xue wang, a stewed dish of assorted "pig parts" with some Spam in the numbing mala and spicy sauce. Just not my thing. On the contrary, family didn't care for the spareribs with pineapple sauce but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Perhaps it helped cool down my mouth after sampling a whole bunch of spicy foods. For dessert we got the fried bun with condensed milk. It was delivered to our table hot and fresh where it was easily gobbled up. We were sadly disappointed with the mung bean jelly with spicy sauce and the spring onion chicken in pepper sauce. They both fell flat. The Chengdu fried rice and Szechuan duck were just okay for us. Probably won't be ordering them again. Service was above average for a Chinese restaurant, where I usually lower my standards. The restaurant was quite busy but staff were friendly and attentive, and provided us with takeout containers for our leftovers. Overall, a positive first experience at CT where I'd be game for a return visit. There are other things on the menu that I'd like to explore. The prices here at CT are reasonable and with decent portions.

Yelp
Very good + authentic Sichuan food! This restaurant is on the second level of a plaza on Rycroft and Sheridan street, and parking's available on the street or you can try and grab the few spots they have in the plaza's lot (first hour free). The interior of the place is spacious and clean with large windows facing the street, and I liked how the servers were super attentive and friendly! We got the mapo tofu, sauteed eggplant, chengdu style fried rice, and griddle cooked frog. The mapo tofu was soft and flavorful, and the eggplant was melt-in-your-mouth and had a nice sweet and sour taste. I liked the frog as well, it was numbingly spicy and the meat was really tender. The only thing that was just ok was probably the fried rice, but I did like all the other dishes. Will definitely come back for more!

Yelp
Very good food with reasonable price. I eat Chinese food in Hawaii many times, this one is must eat place.

Yelp
Food is fantastic 10/10. To be able to control the spice is great, and the spice is just right depending on how you want it. I crave this place from time to time because the food quality is awesome. Service when you dine in is decent. They checked up on me a good amount of times with water, but what urged me to write this review is my experience with take out. I ordered my food at 6:52pm. By 7:35pm they only had 2/5 plates done and the woman said they're still working on it. And I saw them take one and give it to a different guy who came in after me. So from 7:35pm to 7:50pm there was only 1 plate. Then they slowly fulfilled all the other orders that came after mine. Now it's 8:02pm, 1hr 10 min past the time I ordered my food, and she checked on me bc I've been sitting here again, and she looked at the name and looked at the ticket on the 3/5 plates and looked like "oh... this is HER order ". She said they're still working on 2 plates. I've worked restaurant before, so I know they just forgot about my order. 8:07p Ambiance is lively with many conversations being had. So don't expect a quiet, romantic ambiance with this place. Come with friends instead. To top it off. I should've checked the order, but they gave us 2 canned teas on the house because my bf came and was upset it was taking so long. Only for them to get my order wrong with the one thing I wanted from here which was the pork belly with bamboo shoots. But instead they gave me tripe and pork or what tastes like pig feet (see photo). I'm thoroughly upset at this point.

Yelp
I've always wanted to come here so I was happy to finally visit. The ambiance is very welcoming as someone of chinese descent. The restaurant's service structure is slightly different than others, instead of getting your order taken by a server, you just scan a QR code and choose the dishes you'd like. It's pretty straight forward but also means you don't really have someone to inquire about the dishes. I also needed to keep weirdly stare at the servers to get help when I needed the takeout containers, check, and napkins. We got the bobo chicken to start with, it was cold, which we didn't realize till it arrived to the table. Despite the RED color, it wasn't too spicy for me, and the flavor was pretty good. There was so much sauce we took it home since we loved the flavor of it. We also got the toothpick lamb with cumin. It was delicious and we ate it all. My mom insisted that we get the shredded pork with garlic sauce, as we often get that at other chinese restaurant. Big mistake, it was NOT what we expected. For some reason it was sour? We tried to eat it and even mixed it with the sauce from the bobo chicken to 'save' it, we even took it home thinking that maybe we'll eat it when we are more hungry. Nope, in the trash it goes :/ (and I hate wasting food btw). We also got the flavored spicy beef noodle. It was delicious, we ate it all despite how spicy it was. Probably more spicy than the average can handle, my mom wanted to try it and there was instant regret in her eyes. From the bowl it seems like it's from the noodle shop down stairs called "Mian", been there as well! Overall, would MAYBE come back if my family wanted to or to take someone here who has never tried foods on the menu as they have a large variety.

Yelp
As a spicy food lover, it met my expectations! The food was flavorful and had some heat. I ordered the "more spicy" for all my dishes and I thought it had a kick, so I'm sure for general audiences it was VERY spicy. Restaurant is clean, open, lots of natural light, and gives 1hr free valet parking. They do not have physical menus so will need to scan the QR code at the table to view menu and order through that as well. The only cons are that the server did not come check on me throughout the meal, and the winter melon tea wasn't too tasty.

Yelp
Went this past week and quickly was seated with no wait. Food was just as delicious as I remembered it to be, even dreaming about it right now. The had a remodel of the restaurant, new chairs, tables, lighting fixtures, and new art/paint on the walls - looks great and super comfy!
google avatar

Marianna F.

Yelp
This place is outta the way for us but worth it. Parking can be tough to get here. It's behind Walmart, so you can park in the structure and just walk across the street. The food here is amazing and so authentic. You order at your table using the QR code at your table, so I screenshot some of the menu items for you folks, but couldn't load all of them sadly. The service is great here, and the place is very clean. You'll want to get the usual suspects here, the toothpick lamb, boiled beef, Mabo tofu, dumplings in chili oil, and the Szechuan beef stir fry. I'm getting hungry typing this just thinking about the food. The portions are pretty good for the price, but you're coming here for the best Szechuan experience you can find on island. If you wanna know more about this place just message me cause I can go on and on about one of my favorite places to eat in town!!!

Yelp
I recently dined at Chengdu Taste in the Sheridan Center and had an exceptional experience. The location on the second floor is convenient, and the use of QR codes on the table for menu and ordering made the process seamless. What sets this Szechuan restaurant apart is their commitment to spice; the only place I don't have to request extra heat, which is a rarity. The new additions to the menu were delightful. The Sichuan style half duck was succulent, with a perfect balance of spices enhancing the rich flavors. The pork belly with bamboo shoot was a flavorful delight, showcasing tender pork complemented by the earthy bamboo shoots. However, the standout dish was the sliced crisp grass carp with double chili pepper, offering a delightful chewiness and a symphony of spicy and savory notes. Chengdu Taste truly excels in delivering an authentic Szechuan dining experience, and I highly recommend it to any spice enthusiast or anyone looking to explore bold and innovative Chinese cuisine. Five stars without a doubt!

Yelp
Food: No where else on the island does Sichuan style food like chengdu taste. The Ma-lah flavor is just right where your mouth isn't to numb and you can still taste your food. The Lam Dishes all go super well with beer and its a perfect spot for large parties as well. I cant recommend this spot enough and really happy that Hawaii has a sichuan style chinese food that represents the cuisine in such a high quality manner. Service: Efficient great service nothing bad to say about the staff nor wait times. Ambiance: Great spot for large parties. Better to since you can order more and share family style.

Yelp
The food is pretty awesome, first time having the Spicy fried Shrimp with crisp rice, delicious. This tasty dish requires hand peeling the shrimp but I was not put off. The dry skillet beef was nice though there was no sign of Sichuan peppercorns here or in any dish we had. SXY Sichuan does this dish better. The lamb toothpicks was fantastic. The order through the cell application does make service easy though you're not going to have anyone to consult on your culinary or dietary inquiries.

Yelp
Chengdu is the capital city of Sichuan. Chengdu Taste is located on the second floor of the Sheraton 808 center. Bold authentic Sichuan flavors is what you will indulge your taste buds in while at Chengdu Taste. Dishes will have mala (麻辣 málà), a spice made from sichuan peppercorns and chili which gives a numbing sensation. You can opt to not have that spice included in your dishes. I've been here three times now. Dishes that have turned into my go tos are the toothpick lamb. Crispy yet moist bites with great spices. I love the big amount of cilantro in this. Their spring onion chicken, served cold are tender pieces of chicken thighs chopped up. Eggplant is really tasty and big serving. Their menu is on a QR code that pulls up their ordering system too. So you take the time you need and order when you are ready. The food comes super fast. They take reservations with parties of four or more. Parking is in a small lot behind the center, street parking, or the garage at Walmart.

Yelp
Chang brings the heat--and more importantly, the flavor--at Chengdu Taste, a Szechuan-style restaurant transplanted from Los Angeles, continuing its tradition of excellence. The dishes are not for the faint of heart, with favorites like shrimp fried rice, lamb toothpicks, spicy boiled fish, and spicy eggplant. Each dish delivered unique, bold flavors, with the spicy eggplant standing out, even for a self-professed meat lover. The Szechuan boiled fish was perfectly cooked but paired best with plain white rice to balance the heat. Prepare to have your taste buds blown away. 9/10, will go again!

Yelp
Best sichuan food on the island I think. The Bobo chicken is the highlight. Must order

Yelp
Hands down the BEST Chinese restaurant I've ever been to! I personally love Chinese food and this place has never disappointed. So far, I've tried about 8 different things off of their menu and every single one of them has been 10/10! Parking is relatively easy, as you can park in Walmart and walk over. Service is quick and excellent with friendly staff. This has become one of my favorite restaurants, I could honestly eat here every single day if my stomach allowed. If you love authentic Chinese food, this would be the #1 restaurant I would recommend.

Yelp
I rediscovered my enjoyment of Szechuan food strangely enough when I was in Okinawa. We had this spicy chili chicken dish and Chengdu taste has it as well. It was amazing - flavorful and spicy. We got some veggies. Ordering is by scan and can pay by scan too. Food comes out quickly and service was great. I'm definitely a fan and need to eat that chicken with the chilies again.

Yelp
In the mood for spicy? You've found the right place. Here's what I recommend off the menu. Must: Spicy lamb toothpicks Shredded potatoes with green onion Not spicy beef and onions Water Get: Tofu skin Fried rice The fried (popcorn) chicken Green beans Skip: The spicy fish in sauce The beef and crunchy fried rice No reservations needed make sure to prepare your toilet for later. Ambiance.

Yelp
Wow! we came here for the first time after reading all the rave reviews and we have to say that we were not disappointed. The food was delicious!!! we ordered "Toothpick lamb", spicy eggplant and Cold tofu skin with chili sauce. they were spectacular. if you love spicy food, this Schezhuan restaurant will not disappoint. And what is amazing about this restaurant is that it is super clean. Probably the cleanest Chinese restaurant we have ever been to. We will definitely be back. Service is good and food even better. The location is not visible from the street but easy to get to. It is on the 2nd floor. Park at Walmart and walk towards Rycroft and Sheridan, an easy 3 minute walk.

Yelp
Food is amazing really enjoyed the flavor and portion size of everything. Spicy fish soup and the spicy lamb dishes were my favorite.

Yelp
Sichuan food so expect spicy. This one is hard to rate. Normally, I go through all points, but their setup makes it difficult. So let's start with... Ambience - Clean, bright, not real noisy Food - Really good. We ordered Mapo Tofu (mild spicy), Sweet & Sour Fish, and two bowls of rice. Mapo Tofu came out first. I was expecting spicy, but it's all relative, right? Started off good, but in the end, was too spicy for me. Taste was great though. Again, all relative. The fish was REALLY good. See my pic. It's so different from any other sweet and sour fish I've had. Service Waiting for our food to arrive... Started with our mapo tofu, but that's all they brought. No rice, no fish. Maybe 10 minutes later, they brought the rice. Whew! Had balance. But then, no fish for a really long time. Seemed like 30 minutes, but let's even cut 10 minutes from that. 20 minutes to wait for our second and last entree is kind of long. I finally asked our "server" and it comes out 5 minutes later. So this is why they got 3 stars and not 4 or 5. As we were leaving, my stomach started to ache. Not their fault. I just think my stomach couldn't handle the spiciness of the Mapo Tofu by itself for so long. All that being said, their "service" is hard to rate cause they seat you, point out the QR code, bring you water, and confirm your order after you've submitted it through the QR code. You even check out through the QR code, so it's pretty much hands off. The guy was a machine. He took care of all the tables, including bussing. He was amazing, as he was constantly moving. There was one girl who was the runner and brought out all the food. So basically, they have one server/busser, one runner, and one cashier for front-of-the-house. Don't know how many cooks. Pretty low cost for labor, yet still pretty efficient.

Yelp
We went there looking for noodles and won ton. They do not have won ton mein. They have won ton but just by itself. The tan tan mein did not have too much sauce or meat. The glass noodle dish I would not order again. It was spicy cold and a bit too different. I did not like ordering by phone when in the restaurant. No physical menu just QR code. Our questions were not answered. Just not the place for me. Others there seemed to enjoy their order. With the price, portion, ambiance, taste of food, and lack of physical menu. It is not for me.

Yelp
Although they don't do physical menu, it was easy enough to order and we ordered quite a few things. Besides the items in the photos, we also ordered this potato and pork intestine dish and plum juice and all of it was great. The only thing I would have to say is that the toothpick lamb seems kind of unnecessary (haha). You might as well just not bother with the toothpick. But that's just an opinion. Overall the food was great and at a good value and the service was good. Will eat here again.

Ione C.

Yelp
Love this restaurant. Food is always good here and for those of us who don't like spicy food, you can choose no spice to enjoy your meal too. This is true Chinese cuisine so if you're looking for local style Chinese, this is not the place for you. Service is fast and servers are polite. Not a quiet place when full and it does fill quickly on the weekends. If you want good true Chinese food try Chengdu Taste you won't regret it.

Yelp
8/7/24 at 6:00 p.m Yesterday was my birthday so me and 5 other people wanted to give this place a try. My experience was very good until i ordered the wrong item. I ordered the boiled fish with green pepper soup and it was very bad. Boiled fish broth was cloudy and not clean, overkilled with peppercorns which tasted bitter and the numbing was so bad. I was mostly spitting out in a bowl instead of enjoying my food too bad i didn't have the food taken off the bill. Service was very good as waters was refilled fast in a pitcher. The ambiance is okay, just please steer away from boiled fish items with green pepper soup.

Yelp
Food: authentic, spicy, delicious food. Growing up in LA, I'm used to having super authentic/traditional options to choose from. When I get that craving for the spicy Szechuan goodness, I know that Chengdu taste will always get it perfect. Ambiance: spacious, clean. Many tables to choose from, including the larger traditional round tables with the lazy Susan in the middle. I've come here in the past for Chinese new year with my family and comfortably fit our family of 10. Service: friendly, attentive. Your water will always be filled. You order through QR code and pat in the front as you leave, but anything you need in between that, just flag down one of the servers. TIP: Be careful when you order spicy.... You may not realize what you've got yourself in to. This place knows spicy and does it right.

Yelp
Delicious, authentic food. You can request for no msg to be added in the food. Use the QR code to review the menu and place your order directly in your phone.

Yelp
Chengdu taste is known for having really spicy food. Maggie loves spicy food! This was her favorite place during her 3 months stay in Hawaii! She knew all the good things to order and ordered very well. I can handle spicy food but some of the things were super spicy. Really strongly recommended if you love spicy food. Their takeout is also fantastic. She ordered a bunch for lunch and it fed us for dinner and even brunch the next day.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Nice and spicy. Definitely worth the heartburn later tonight. Pretty much self service but everyone seemed happy to help. This is very authentic Chinese dining, so expect it to be loud with good vibes. Will come back next time I am in Waikiki again.

Yelp
Sunday we were treated to early dinner. It's a good thing we went at 500pm when they opened because it was packed within the hour. Excellent. The food was ono all around. This was our first experience using their QR code to order our food. Only with this is very limited contact with the servers other than bringing the food to the table. We ordered 7 items cost was agreeable $$. Best item for me was the hot and sour soup. I would definitely go again

Yelp
FOOD REVIEWS Parking is on the street or they have valet. Reservations for dinner I would recommend, they were pretty busy for a Tuesday night. The restaurant is on the second floor and an elevator is available. The dining area welcoming and bright with many different sized tables for smaller or larger family style eating. There was one huge round table in the back that looked like it could easily fit a party of 20 adults or more. But I would call to see what its true capacity is. Ordering requires scanning a QR code that will present a menu showing vibrant colored pictures of each dish and their price. On the left of the menu is a side bar listing foods in their respective categories. You can tap and go directly to the dishes you want eg. Special New dishes, Cold dishes, Chengdu Special dishes, Fish & Shrimp, All About Beef, All About Pork, Noodles & WonTon & Rice etc. We were honored by the presence of a dear friend of my husband who had spent immersed for 2 years in China so we got a quick tutorial on the Ma(numbing)and La(spicy) (Mala) flavors unique to Sichuan dishes. We also deferred to her in selecting what to eat. For those who are not familiar, being Chinese myself it was quite the learning experience: Sichuan food is different from the typical Cantonese style of Chinese food most islanders are familiar with. The larger population of immigrants to Hawaii came from Canton (more currently known as Guangzhou Province). Mala is a signature flavor and is more a combination of sensations than just tastes due to the Sichuan peppercorns, which cause that citrusy, numbing sensation, coupled with the spicy burn of chile peppers. Our guest had graciously considered our limited experience with Sichuan foods and asked how spicy we were comfortable with. We said medium spicy and what she ordered was exactly what we got. She was also fluent in Mandarin and our server was delighted to accomodate her requests. The staff were very polite and attentive, unobtrusive but checked in on us and provided whatever things we needed to enjoy our meal. Each and every dish had its similar but unique presentation. My taste buds were singing and could not have been happier. Helpful tip she provided was if things were getting too spicy that drinking cold water would just heighten the spiciness and that you should eat rice instead. Food portions were generous and there was more to take home to probably cover another meal or two! Toothpick Lamb with Cumin- be careful of the bits of broken toothpicks, lamb was a bit dry but the blend of cumin and spices made up for it. Duck in SiChuan Style (half a duck)- crispy skin and moist chunks of duck meat, need I say more? Boiled Sliced Fish in Hot sauce Sautéed Eggplant with Spicy Garlic Sauce Cuiyun Boiled Fish with Pickled Cabbage and Chili- absolutely one of my favorites. The soup had flavors of citrus and spice with tender chunks of fish, bits of fresh ginger that was not over powering. Chengdu Style Fried Rice- most delicious and well prepared.' Sautéed String Beans with Chili Mahalo to our wonderful friend who has opened up my food journey through the Spice road of South Asian cuisine.

Yelp
Coming from authentic Bay Area Chinese food scenes, we still found this place a good spot to satisfy our Chinese food craving during the island visit. All of what we ordered are GREAT: Shang Xin Laing fen, ya Qian lamb, sha guo tofu fish, tomato egg soup, string beans. Will come again in our next visit!

Yelp
So good. If you've ever lived in china, especially in a place that has this kind of taste, 5 stars plus. I'm not the only one to say that. Order anything. Don't be naive. If you read the menu and don't like it, you probably won't. If you read it and think you will, then give it a try. It's good. Authentic. If you don't like that, then go to panda express.

Yelp
The spicy toothpick lamb was pretty spicy but good flavors! I will say it was not very much food for ~$20. I was definitely still hungry after and was surprised at how light the box was when I picked up my order. I got takeout so I can't speak to the service too much but the hostess was very nice and my order was ready 20 min after I called. The inside is bright and has lots of tables for large and small parties alike- it seemed pretty busy! Parking is pretty hard to find though. Overall, good tasting food but very underwhelmed by the portion for the price

Yelp
Just landed in Honolulu and couldn't brave the storm tonight. Had UberEats delivery from here tonight, and it was excellent! Started with the wontons in chili oil - yum! Toothpick Lamb - addictive - loved the cumin and heat- I couldn't stop eating it. There's so many toothpicks! Hate to have that job. Twice cooked pork rice and Dan Dan noodles also delicious.

Yelp
Loved eating here at Chendgu Taste! We were seated right away and the ambiance was very clean and tidy. We parked across the street at the mall and walked over which made it much easier. We had the Toothpick lamb, house fried rice, and the crispy fried chicken with chilis. The portions were big! There were two of us and we definitely took food home. There is no beer or alcohol, which isnt a problem, but something to know in case you were planning on a cold beer with your spicy food. I will definitely be back to try the mung bean jelly noodle!

Yelp
Aloha, if you like or are in the mood for hot and spicy, this is the Chinese Restaurant for you! Whew! From numbing green sauce where your lips and tongue feel "chocho " to your brow is sweating with chilies, whoa you'll have a mouth full of flavor. The garlic friend rice and the garlic clams oh and the spicy eggplant were so ono, actually everything was good. You know upon walking in that it's a very authentic shezuan style fas everyone is speaking Chinese, from staff to patrons, lol. Felt like we were in Hong Kong or Vancouver! Best part is it's BYOB. Bring your shochu and beer to mellow out the spice, really refreshing. Will definitely return to work our way through the menu. Enjoy!

Yelp
A vendor (and old friend) treated me to lunch at Chengdu Taste ... It was my first time here. You order your food online and a server brings the dishes to your table. We ordered three dishes ... Boiled Sliced Fish in Hot Sauce, Toothpick Lamb with Cumin and Szechwan Tan Tan Noodle. The lamb was first to arrive .... Petite pieces of lamb on toothpicks mixed with chopped red chilis, cilantro and a generous sprinkling of cumin spice. It was tasty but somewhat dry; we asked for some kind of sauce and we were served a bowl of chili oil. It would be a great appetizer with beer. The Szechwan Tan Tan Noodles arrived next and this ended up being my favorite of the three dishes. The ground pork, peanuts, Szechwan peppercorns and sesame paste coated the noodles perfectly. I could just have this dish and be a happy diner. The boiled sliced fish dish came last (sorry, no pic). Nice pieces of a white fish (Basa?) was swimming in a very spicy chili sauce. Wow, heat! There were pieces of cabbage similar to kimchi and bean sprouts. This was a very tasty dish but probably should have been eaten over rice. I love spicy food but kept running through the paper napkins because I was perspiring profusely. Each dish was fine though I would have liked some kind of dipping sauce for the lamb. Something besides chili oil. In summary, I enjoyed my first meal at Chengdu Taste and want to return to try other dishes. Recommended!

Yelp

Yelp
This is my daughter's favorite Chinese restaurant in Honolulu. Their Szechuan menu is a little overwhelming with many specialties. I was disappointed that the menu did not describe ingredients, but the photos were enticing and accurate. The food is a little pricy, but the portions are large and sharable. Purposely, we ordered more than we could possibly eat so that we would have leftovers. The food arrived 40 minutes after ordering for dinner. Everything was still hot. The Boiled Sliced Fish in Hot Sauce ($22) is served with steamed rice. The fish is cooked in a delightfully spicy, somewhat hot, oily broth with cabbage. The fish was delicious and the portion generous and easily sharable. The Special Shrimp with Fries ($26) was a surprise on the menu. The fries and crisp shrimp were spicy with flavors of garlic and ginger. The portion was generous. The Chengdu Style Fried Rice ($13) is light and flavorful with bits of green onion. The Cold Noodle with Garlic Sauce ($13) is a family favorite and a garlic lovers delight. The noodles are smothered in garlic and there is an unique citrusy dressing on green onions and cucumber. The portion is small for the price and left me wanting more. The Wonton with Red Chili Sauce ($13) are meat (pork?) filled juicy dumplings served with a spicy hot chili sauce. The Winter Melon Tea ($4) was a refreshing delicious surprise. It was addictively sweet and fruity, and helped tone down the spicy meal. All in all, delicious food, fresh ingredients, lots of spicy goodness and interesting menu that will have me craving a return visit.

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try since I was in the area and wanted to give this place a try. In terms of atmosphere, it's not like the typical local style Chinese restaurants. It's a bit more contemporary, probably more akin to a big city restaurant in China. It's really clean and well maintained. Orders are taken via a QR code and is based on the table that the order is being made. So, if 3 people are ordering on the table, the order will be on one bill. Not sure how to separate it, so you might need to ask a waiter. Looked at the menu and ordered a Ma Po Tofu with rice. Be warned, this is not the typical Hawaiian style Ma Po Tofu, it's just spice and tofu. This dish does have a kick if you're not a spice person. Service was quick and the wait staff, though limited was willing to answer questions about any of the dishes. I would come back here again to try the other dishes.

Yelp
Chengdu Taste was my first experience with Szechuan food. Was here solo traveling last november. It got me hooked, and now I have to settle for Peter Chang in the US. Got the Mapo Tofu, Tan Tan Noodles, and Mung Bean Juice. Don't skip on the Mung. Best place for some nice Szechuan comfort food, just chilled and watched some JJK. Really cute ambiance. A word to the wise: I thought I could level up so I ordered the hot and sour soup extra spicy and tingly the second time I went there, could not eat it without coughing, my body rejected it I was so sad. Mapo tofu sure go extra spicy but be careful with the hot and sour soup!
