A decades-old Alamitos Beach fixture known for big portions and classic Chinese-American comfort—think walnut shrimp, chow fun, and hot-and-sour soup. The official menu confirms it’s still humming and feeding regulars daily.

Google
Great Chen’s Chinese Restaurant to come and celebrate your anniversary with wife and family. Great place, been coming here for the last 20 years! The soup is the bomb and the rice and noodles. Pork chops are great.

Google
Sunday lunch hour , probably around 4 tables occupied only during the duration between 1:15pm to 2:30pm. First time checking this place out. The place is authentic Chinese style ambience. The taste of the food is good from its mandarin style. The service is somewhat ok too. The reason for the rating is that I don’t feel and see any wow factor from food, service, and atmosphere. If I have similarity of this place, it would probably be the chinese fast food of two combo choices plus an option of chowmen or fried rice or half. Though the Chinese fast food flavor has a better taste than at this location. But then again, that’s only thru my own taste bud and own opinion. Server was nice. The men’s restroom have these odor smell. I think they need to clean up their AC ventilation as it’s not healthy to inhale the air from the restroom itself.

Google
Amazon driver I tried foods around Long Beach and this part since I love Chinese food and I wanted to try it but when I ordered my takeout they give you a very small portion of food I got the fried rice with the barbecue pork and they only put small little pieces of barbecue pork in the fried rice like I'm talking small diced up pieces and not even a lot of it

David A.

Google
My friends and I were looking to try some local spots in Long Beach and decided on Chen’s. When we walked in, we were pleased with the old-school charm of the restaurant. The food was great, however, our visit quickly soured when I paid a visit to the men’s restroom. I noticed that the bathrooms were not very clean. The restaurant in general looked a little dirty and worn down. This was expected as it was an old-school restaurant, that was clearly family owned. However, on the floor of the bathroom floor I noticed a dead cockroach. I was alarmed at the sight of this dead roach, as it made me wonder if the restaurant had a roach infestation. I informed the waitress of this and even showed her a picture of the dead roach on the floor. I asked to speak to the manager but either the waitress didn’t understand me due to a language barrier, or simply pretended to ignore my complaint. No resolution came out of that and we promptly left the restaurant disappointed and disgusted. I do not recommend coming here.

Google
General Tso and Dumplings are good, average at worst. The orange chicken and rice is fantastic and the honey walnut shrimp is fried. I definitely do not prefer it fried but if that’s your thing it’s pretty good. Staff is super friendly, restraint is clean and quiet, large with a lot of seating.

Malik V.

Google
Faaaaantastic Authentic Asian Cuisine at a great price in one of the best places in America yet another Long Beach gem adding to the reasons I travel from Inglewood to come here I will be returning to this wonderful place

Google
I had Chen's for the first time at an event I went to. It was delicious. I drove from the OC to get myself some more and it didn't disappoint. I had the Honey Walnut Shrimp, Garlic noodles, Chow fun, Egg rolls, Won tons and Sautéed green beans. This place has been around forever and has lots of history. If you're looking for good Chinese food in LB check them out.

ravindra B.

Google
Good Chinese food. Parking on the road there is a dedicated lot nearby. Ambiance is good but there is typical musky smell not overpowering. Food portions are big so order carefully. BBQ steak was super, sesame chicken was too sweet and broccoli too big. Chicken fried rice, kungpoa shrimp were delicious. Steamed dumplings was very dry not great. Overall a good Chinese restaurant in downtown Long Beach

Yelp
I love Chen's! I've been going for many years. Normally the food quality and portions are excellent and generous. However, recently I patronized after some time. I ordered the orange chicken thinking it was going to be chunks like at Panda Express. It was not! It was chipped or shaved and it was/is tough as nails! It's inedible. I took most of it home and just threw all of the leftovers away. Do NOT order the orange chicken.

Yelp
I used to love this place!! The quality of the food has significantly decreased. The service is hit or miss when you dine in. I had the food around Thanksgiving time after telling myself to never have it again due to feeling sick to my stomach after eating here. Shame on me for giving it another try, same thing happened. I don't have a sensitive stomach, but there's something about eating here that doesn't sit well for me. Never again will I eat here. LV Chinese seafood near LBX is way better in every category, give that place a shot.

Cherice W.

Yelp
I went here last Christmas was hoping that my dinner would be perfect this Christmas but turns out it was horrible first thing we got there sat down had horrible service and then our food came out we ate everything was wonderful but at the end I decided to look in the soup just to make sure nothing was in there sadly I found it baby cockroach in my soup I just want to warn everybody if you do end up going here please be careful because I ended up giving my son who is 2 years old cockroach soup and me and my son ate half of the entire bowl once again be careful where you sit down and eat look in your food just to make sure it is safe because you never know what you're eating

Yelp
Casual and quick restaurant with decent food. We got the Kung Pao Chicken which was good. The Bbq Pork Lo Mein was tasty too, but hardly had any pork in it, and the Beef Pan Fried Noodles which were very salty. For the price and convenience, it was fine. Service was good and staff is nice.

Yelp
This is an older post I bearly found in my drafts. Chens is a place we do love to frequent. They have lunch specials also that include soup, entree and egg roll. Just visit and try for yourself. Our dishes are always satisfying and filling. I did leave the names of these dishes. We have returned since again and will be back soon

Yelp
We had an event here and it was my first time ever eating here. The rest is clean and seems bigger than I'd imagined. Staff was trying their best given how many people were there. Though they should have had coverage knowing we had booked it months in advance. Took them awhile to take drink orders and getting the glasses out for guests. The food was your typical Chinese restaurant. Super greasy and not a whole lot of flavors n my opinion. Hopefully they can re examine their menu a bit and the flavors as they were lacking. The pork was dry and noodles were greasy.
google avatar

Kyle N.

Yelp
Friendly service, fast seating. The TV's were all playing news commentary and the staff turned it off around 8. HK noodles are a hit. Great prices.

Jose A.

Yelp
Crazy that management would allow for only one server to be working. Poor thing was doing their best. Most importantly this is maybe the worst meal I've had in my 4 years of eating in Long Beach. I don't know what happened. I used to like this place. The soup was water, the dumplings were soggy, the teriyaki chicken smelled, the general Taos was maybe fine. The only thing worth eating was the steamed rice.
google avatar

Yelp
Must say the portions and food are great. Great for a big party but if it's only 2 you will have lots of left overs as you can see on the pics. Waiters are always very attentive and quick with any requests. I really enjoy coming to this local Chinese restaurant
google avatar

Ruby R.

Yelp
The food was delicious great portions. The staff was very attentive. And the Decor was super cute reminiscent of a classic vintage Chinese food restaurant.
google avatar

Ricky D.

Yelp
I've ordered from here for nearly 5 years now and I still forget to take pictures. The food is always delicious and on point and the packaging is pretty good. My go to faves are the Shrimp Fried Rice, the BBQ Spare Ribs, the salt and pepper chicken wings, honey walnut glazed shrimp, the beef and broccoli, the wonton soup, just to name a few. Point being, the food here is fantastic and is always consistent and not a bad price. Recommend to everyone looking for tasty Chinese Food.

Yelp
This place has been so consistently tasty and delicious! Speedy service and great quality food!!

Priscilla R.

Yelp
On my list for a while. We dined in booth felt dirty. Food was a 2. Husband and I are not picky about food but we just couldn't. Bathroom smelled was really dirty I felt like I wanted to leave pretty soon after arrival. Sucks bc I had this place on my go to list for a while.
google avatar

Vinny S.

Yelp
Hard to find excellent chinese food in Cali. This place is up there with the best chinese joints in the whole country!! They mke real fried rice, awesome Mooshoo pork and incredible hug wonton soup Take my advice you will love em!
google avatar

Sandy D.

Yelp
I have never eaten inside the restaurant. I always get my order to go. The food is always well seasoned, it always looks appetizing. It is worth the price, never disappoints.

Byron B.

Yelp
Food is good and fresh! Fairly large portions. They have an awesome lunch special from 11-3 pm Monday through Friday, which includes hot tea, egg roll, choice of egg flower or hot and sour soup, main entree, and fortune cookie. I usually take home half of the meal for my next meal. Friendly staff, good service and good reserved parking. Nice ambiance and great history.

Yelp
Do you love brown soy oil sauce?! I am so disappointed in how far Chen's has gone downhill. After being an old fan, it's been a few years since we've gone. We ordered the family meal with the Sweet & Sour soup, General Tso's chicken and the King Pao triple with beef, chicken & shrimp. We also ordered the "bbq pork" lo main. ALL FOUR MAIN DISHES HAD THE EXACT SAME BROWN OILY SAUCE. Generally Tso chicken is not supposed to be brown! Kung pao chicken is not supposed to be brown. The BBQ pork was brown drenched in the oily soy sauce sauce. It was utterly disgusting. The only meat that was tolerable was the breaded / fried chicken. The beef was not eatable. I felt sick afterwards because of how oily everything was. Will not return.
google avatar

Hannah T.

Yelp
Usually looove this place for the affordable delivery. But my most recent order of deep fried pork chops came with a gross surprise... I took a bite and realized it was a deep fried napkin... Are you guys not looking at what you're cooking? Yuck!

Yelp
Chen's seems to have a revolving door wait staff so we'll probably never again see the curt, barely civil and "I'm too good for this job" attitude sported by the waitress that we encountered today. Best to concentrate on the food which can be delicious. Wednesday being a triple holiday/holy day we thought Chen's would be a pleasant and soothing lunch respite to celebrate Saint Valentine's Day which was also Ash Wednesday. Well, it wasn't. Yet it wasn't the worst. Choosing Chen's also to have their lunch specials during the Lunar New Year celebration, we were told in Belushian bruskness, "no lunch today". "No tea for you", (it's against the law [??really?]) , also dirty dishes were not taken away. Yet the Aromatic Fish filet was very, very good so the irritating accompaniments were just one (or two or three) of those things. Another deluter of delight was the loudmouthed party at another table telling grossly inappropriate stories of his midwestern childhood. Notwithstanding his implicating he had a career in Hollywood, I felt no desire to have his autograph. Chen's never lifted it head out of Hopper's doldrums. Yup, that fish really hit the spot.

Yelp
Horrible ,used my credit card for payment on to-go order . David the register clerk claimed charge did not go through... which it did : showed him bank posting & he spoke with my bank representative- he refused to to document that no service was provided by Chen's .. Police called - I have a report, I am currently fighting fraudulent charges by Chen's through my bank.., BEWARE!!!

Yelp
I like this restaurant I haven't dined in yet but I do order to go and it's amazing they give you a lot of food I usually order their combo fried rice with shrimp and chicken which can be a dish by it self with nothing else because they give you a lot , they have beef skewers that are really great as well and I always make sure to grab a Thai tea I don't like boba their beef and broccoli is great but it is an option this is one of my go to Chinese spots and they've been around for a long time I definitel

Yelp
Food taste is not great I'd give it a 1/10. If the item touches the table and you decide you don't want it then you still will be paying for it and the manager won't approach you they'll just have the server tell you (which is weak in my opinion, Ive worked at many restaurants many years) also overhearing the table next to us the exact words "this doesn't taste the same" ... yeah customer service isn't great either .wont be coming back here. Cool looking place gives a very nostalgic vibe.

Yelp
Hi, Food was top tier, I ordered the lunch special- sweet and sour chicken with fried rice and an egg roll, it was so delicious! But the service was horrible, we walked in and the guy at the counter didn't say hello, I said hello about 3 times and he kept saying will you be to go or dining in, then the server was so nonchalant no engagement whatsoever, but I watched every other person come in and the guy at the counter greeted them I just didn't like that, the first time I came out server was very sweet and kind but this last time I was very disappointed

Tracye W.

Yelp
Door dashed an order last night Chens special egg foo young, egg rolls, orange chicken. The egg foo you was terrible! Overly salty! Sauce was in a gelatin state so thick you could cut it with a knife! Don't have any of the shrimp, chicken or beef that comes I. The Chens special egg foo young. The egg foo young patties was thin as paper! The egg rolls were hard and cold! The orange chicken was hot, fresh and tasty, the Chens special fried rice was fresh and tasty as well! I haven't a clue how the egg foo young was so awful this time. It was as if I received the remnants from the bottom of the pot at the end of the night before closing. It was awful. Had the grow it away.

Sammy Y.

Yelp
As always tasty !!! As always my order was cooked as I requested !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still fair prices ! As always open late !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! , As always NO enough parking ! Yet ! Because of my E-Bike , Still 5 star .

Alison W.

Yelp
I moved to Long Beach in 2003 and have been coming here ever since. The food was really very good years ago, but they have changed owners several times and each time the quality has gone down. The portions are still big, but it's not the same as it used to be The last few times I've gone there it has just been mediocre and sadly I'm looking for a new place for Chinese.
google avatar

Yelp
Used to hear great things about this place , and lately it was "it's not as good a it used to be" so we stopped in last night. Friday about 730, it wasn't very busy but a few families were there we got seated right away. It's really cute and decorated fancy, dim lights, definitely gives old Chinese restaurant. We ordered our drinks and already knew exactly what we wanted to order. We had the honey walnut shrimp Cashew chicken and beef fried rice for our party of three. The portions were large definitely enough for 2/3 some even 4! The honey walnut shrimp was yummy. I wish it had more walnuts in it or they were mixed into it with the sauce. The pieces of shrimp were large and perfectly breaded; the sauce was good too! Chicken cashew was good, wish they had a spicy option! Lots of texture but was really good. Again wish it had more than 4/5 cashews and they were mixed into the meal instead of sprinkled on top. But not a deal breaker. The star of the night besides the red sauce on the table was the beef fried rice. It was AMAZING I have a picky 10year old who is a rice connoisseur and she wanted to order one to go. The rice was perfectly cooked with a perfect balance of egg, beef and veggies! There is only a single restroom in each women's / men's And the floor throughout the restaurant is sticky, lol so other than that... Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
I always get takeout from Chens and it's bomb every time! Great food and a good amount for the price! Ready super fast and tasty- always gotta get the walnut skrimps

Yelp
Oh yes! I know some have said that Chen's isn't as it used to be. But as a first timer here I can't see how it could get any better! This is the Cantonese food of my childhood memories when mom and dad would take us to Canton Kitchen in Monrovia! Staff here at Chen's was just as nice and the food absolutely as good. I ordered the New York Style (bean sprout based instead of noodle based) Chow Mein with shrimp. Some restaurants call this chow mein and the noodle based version lo mein. But whatever you call it, call me to help eat it! I just love the lightness and the crunch. I paired it with the BBQ Spare Ribs which were perfectly cooked, tender and delicious! I only wish Chen's had been heavier handed with the sauce but I'm a saucy girl. Others might love it just as is. Chen's just hit the top of my list for Cantonese food and I can't wait to return again!

Yelp
Been going here for years. It changed hands several years ago. The place is run down nowadays and isn't as busy as it was back in 2007. It feels dark and needs a little remodeling to make it more welcoming. What lights it up with natural light is the big window. Food was much better back then. Now it's meh. However it brings back memories of the old days.

Brenda A.

Yelp
This place sucks for online ordering. It was my first time ordering from this place for pick up, it was for my mother's birthday dinner, and I sent my husband to go pick it up. My husband called me and said that the restaurant said someone had already picked it up. Literally no one else knew about it so I was confused and I double checked that I placed it for pick up not delivery. They get in contact with Uber and someone calls me. Turns out they gave my food to someone else. I got refunded. They told my husband to wait and they'd prepare him our food. They said that they are going to throw in free rice, THE RICE WAS ALREADY FREE ON UBER!! And they ended up charging him again. My husband is a nice guy and he just wanted to get out there. But yeah worst service ever.

Matt L.

Yelp
Service was good and nothing really to complain about with that. I ordered a noodle dish with chicken, shrimp, beef and they had my plate out to me in like 5 min which I thought was odd. When eating the food it honestly tasted old like they maybe had it pre made and just warmed it up. The sauce was salty and had the same consistency as gravy. All the meat inside it was rubbery and tasted old. Also tasted like noodles were not all the way done and had some crunchy parts in it. Paid 20.00$ for this meal and honestly could have gotten better fast food.
google avatar

Dan S.

Yelp
Chen's is an American style cantonese Chinese restaurant on Broadway I long beach. There's almost never a crowd. They do mostly a takeout business. Fairly comprehensive menu. I had the s'echuan shredded pork. It wasn't really shredded but in small pieces. I ordered medium spicy but it came mild. Lots of onions which I love, soft and tender. Service was friendly and helpful. They refilled my water glass twice without my asking. Ambiance- chef's seriously needs to be renovated as it looks like it has not been upgraded in 20 or more years. Prices are reasonable. My dish was $13.50 and the portion was huge. Easy street parking on broadway.

Yelp
Superb old school Chinese food! Highly recommend in a sea of Asian restaurants! Food is high quality and flavourful!
google avatar

Alex H.

Yelp
I been going here for about 15 years since I worked in downtown LB! It was one of the the go to places at lunch with coworkers whenever we thought about options. I have always had great service and the portions are great! I always recommend this place and even my friends from the east coast have to eat here each time they come out. They love one of my favorites which is the sizzling shrimp soup. I am disappointed that their potstickers got small or regular sized. Everyone I know loved the old gigantic versions and wish it came back.

Marsha M.

Yelp
I've been a customer here almost 30 yes the cashier at front really rude order lunch special my rice was hard either chunks of hard rice brown refuse dry no taste took back fir a new one refused the waitress had to literally ask Gil just let me get a her new one still refused she took rice an just I'll get her a new one he sad to say check all your food orders change on a monthly bases not sure if I'll return
google avatar

Mara R.

Yelp
We love Chen's authentic Chinese food always served hot from the kitchen. The prices are reasonable and the portions are big. Service is quick and friendly. Old school Chinese Ambiance. A Long Beach Gem.

Devin ..

Yelp
They used to be good, but the order I just got is going straight in the trash. How is that pork fried noodles??? The assorted appetizers were cold and greasy. The eggplant tasted like bad orange chicken. I thought this would be a delicious treat but I'm just trying not to throw up.
google avatar

Crystal G.

Yelp
Well, of course, after watching Shen Yun You probably should eat Chinese food. Well, that's what we did at least. What a great choice ! The food was delicious. If you've never had garlic Eggplant you're missing out. Everything really hit the spot and of course we let our waiter know that it was Cousin mermaid Judy's birthday and he's surprised us with a strawberry cheesecake what a sweetheart. He even ran over and sang happy birthday with us. That really made us happy. It's just a attention to detail is that really matters when it comes to listening to your customers. Plus you couldn't ignore the fact that she was wearing a Birthday crown lol. I love the red paint Good luck and prosperity and all the Chinese lanterns everywhere just beautiful five stars
google avatar

Rueben R.

Yelp
we come here all the time and had the worst service ever today. my husband has stage 4 cancer and loves the food even though it's prob not the best for him but they make amazing food! today a hispanic waitress THE ONLY one. i'm latino too, full latino! she makes us feel like we're homeless, maybe it's cause we're gay but this restaurant is in the heart of gay. is it cause im latino too? i'm always curtious and kind because my husband has a cough that's constant. and normally i can kill em with kindness and she was almost......prejudice! i talked to the owner, a kind man, super understanding. but i'm sorry, you hurt my dying husband, and i can't. so this is the best i can do without dragging this awful woman.

Gabriella G.

Yelp
Pick Up Service: AMAZING Food: Spectacular I was having the worst day and on the verge of tears. This restaurant's food single handedly pulled me from the depths of sadness. 10/10

Josue Z.

Yelp
Very tasty, I usually get takeout and service is quick. I would like to eat there looks nice and cozy. I recommend chens fried rice.
google avatar

Miro C.

Yelp
The food here is excellent!! Great service and very kind! You can't find an authentic family-style serving these days... Chen's is fantastic! Homey Walnut Shrimp is to die for and the Mongolian beef, curls your toes. Delish!
google avatar

Da W.

Yelp
I've been here before a couple of years ago and wasn't too pleased. But I decided to give them another chance and I'm glad I did. The orange shrimp and shrimp fried rice was delicious! Cooked fresh and the portions were great this time. The service was nice also. I'll be coming back soon.
google avatar

Nancy C.

Yelp
Oh, Chen's, I have been a supporter since Mae was at the helm. This is the Lemon Chicken with the batter completely mushy and falling off. I have never called to complain since 1996 and they backed the chef. Yes, the chicken is quality but I wanted something crunchy not soggy.

Christopher F.

Yelp
I have been going to Chen's for over 20 years. The quality of food has gone downhill for many years. I've given it many chances. The last three times I've gone there I've been dissatisfied! They used to have amazing food! The service was just as bad. What a disappointment! Won't ever go back! Not that they care!
google avatar

Amy R.

Yelp
I live around the block and it was my first time eating finally trying this place out. We ordered take out and the food was ready in 10 min. The flavors of everything was very mid. The chicken in both the orange chicken and general tao tasted old. It was hard to chew and not fresh. The rice and lo mein were good though but nothing special. I wouldn't order here again.
google avatar

Tariq S.

Yelp
Great! Definitely coming bak..customer service was good...shrimp fried rice was good.

Amber C.

Yelp
Just here to say the deep fried napkin review is absolutely INSANE lmao I want to try this place but that was wild!!!!
