The Best Restaurants Near Logan Square

"Cherry Street Tavern is part of a dying breed of old-school taverns where you’ll see Jimi Hendrix posters on the wall, drink cheap beer, and overhear conversations about the younger generation not respecting their elders. This place is famous for its hot beef sandwiches. Which is why you'll see a designated sandwich sculptor stacking hot roast beef and provolone on kaiser rolls like it’s some kind of seductive act. Order one—it's drippy and great—and count the whiskeys behind the bar. We lost track at 37." - candis mclean

Where to Eat and Drink Along the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia - Eater Philly

"The beer list at this historic tavern is decidedly longer than the food menu, but there’s really only one thing to order at Cherry Street Tavern. The hot roast beef on a kaiser roll is a local legend, made even better with the addition of sharp provolone and roasted long hots." - Caroline Coral, Rachel Vigoda

I love this bar. The service is great! The bartenders are amazing. Especially Misty!! I made a great friend by going here on Friday afternoons when I go to meet my boyfriend on Fridays after work. We always have their food. Pork sandwiches and roast beef sandwiches are delicious. The owner is a great guy and always makes you feel at home as soon as you walk in Cherry Street!!’ I also love their music. They play all the old classics and some recent stuff as well.

Google
Great food and great atmosphere! It’s definitely a neighborhood bar where I always feel like we’re treated like family. If you want fancy and pretentious, go somewhere else. The staff is quality and old school in the best way!

Google
This place has a reputation for a reason...a good reason. Fresh made hot roast beef sandwiches w/ sharp provolone, long hots & horseradish = 😻 & the service is as friendly as it gets. Felt like a regular by the time I left. Classic!

Google
The perfect neighborhood bar. The interior is welcoming and cozy. Both bartenders were incredibly kind. I saw a few of the roast beef sandwiches being prepared and they looked delicious. Had a really great time here and will surely be back. Edit: Did come back here after celebrating my birthday at the Mütter Museum and my initial review was correct. This place is the best. The bartenders are so kind and it makes for an outstanding visit. A great place to have a chat with people you care about.

Google
We were having a great time and trying to play music on the jukebox. We were truly disappointed when we tried to play some Kendrick Lamar songs and they were skipped each time. When we inquired, we were told that the owner was older and didn’t appreciate that music…but we’re in the middle of Philadelphia? It didn’t sit right with me. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why I didn’t see POC there.

Google
The woman bartender with curly hair was one of the rudest people i have ever met. Never had I dealt with such a disrespectful worker in my life. My friends and I used to love going to cherry street tavern however will never be returning due to her horrendous attitude. Every other person who works there is nice and attentive.

Google
Been a fan for over ten years and always come back. Best bar service and a old school spot as Philly gets. Laid back attitude, best sandwiches and crispy chips! It’s all I want sometimes in a bar...certainly a place stuck in time and doing it just right.

Google
Incredible individuals staff and bar-goers alike. Drank 3 delicious beers, forgot my bag, and they held it 2 hours later — this is the place to drink in Philadephia, PA!

Yelp
Great food and service. Excellent beer and drink selection. The space is just the right size for a afterwork team get together.

Carter W.

Yelp
These guys flipped out when I didn't tip on my order for 2 beers (directly at the bar). They called me broke and said I was not welcome back. Cool vibe on the inside but some serious bad energy from the bartenders. If it's mandatory then just let me know!

Yelp
This was kind of a cool place to stop in for a beer to end the night. Situated on a corner, it is most definitely a local dive. Seems like everyone knew everyone. I can't speak for their famous roast beef as I was already full from dinner, it would definitely return just for that.

Martha L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere. Friendly staff and owners. Definitely a neighborhood bar where all are welcomed!

Yelp
Laid back neighborhood tavern with a good vibe and good food, cool bartenders and a bangin jukebox.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were visiting Philly for the weekend and stopped in for a quick lunch before going to the museums nearby. We were pretty early for lunch so the place was pretty empty, but the service was great and super attentive. We had a couple local beers on draft (so refreshing) and we each had a cup of the soup (there was a chili and a potato soup). Everything was hearty and we loved the vibe of this neighborhood bar. If we had more time, we definitely would've stayed longer!!

Yelp
Visited this place with colleagues. One colleague loves it because it is near him. The decent roast beef sandwich is good to order if you are here but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for it either. I know the prices of things have went up but I did feel $13 was a lot. Lots of bottles but typical drink menu offerings. Offer a food special. Small menu. The laurels of this place are its longevity being in a near cc location but yet still residential and typical of a more rural bar with few food options and you knowing drink combinations or just having "plain jane" alcohol choices. Was going for the vanilla ice cream and Guiness maybe but most bars don't have ice cream.

Yelp
Outstanding little pub with down home service and care. Definitely was a highlight of the trip so far with their exceptional customer service!

Yelp
Terrible service. Limited menu. Obnoxious clientele. Type of place that is living off some nostalgic reputation from two decades ago. Will never go back.

Yelp
Stopped there on a bar crawl had some drinks and RB sandwiches. Super nice people and sandwiches were amazing!!!!

Yelp
A cute little bar right by my place. Loved going here and grabbing a drink and one of their signature sandwiches. Great spot for a low key relaxed meal. Staff were also very pleasant and gave a hometown bar energy

Yelp
Very Disappointing.I'd drank and eaten here in the past and thought it was a good, neighborhood place.I got lunch and what apathetic service. Also I thought the bill(unitemized)was a bit high for 2 sandwhiches, but as an ex-waiter I never complain. So I paid and left 20 per cent.I see later on when reading my bank statement that I was charged an extra 2 dollars. I imagine this is another kind of "convenience fee" for paying with a debit card.Never again

Yelp
The BEST sandwich in Philly. Forget a cheesesteak, do yourself a favor and just come here. Classic. No muss no fuss. The way it's suppose to be.

Yelp
Really great staff and delicious food and drinks! Even Cherry Street's well whiskey is wonderful! Last night bestie and I had giant portioned roast beef sandwiches and drinks at CST. I love the staff, alcohol, and the food there. The menu is simple but everything is made with love. The horseradish, which is generously served with the roast beef, is amazing! Our bartender knows her booze and my favorite sandwich artist will send you to sandwich nirvana! Lastly, the dill pickle is the genuine article! No wimpy jar pickles here, you're getting a real deal deli pickle with your Sammy which is served on a real deal Kaiser. GO THERE!

Terrence T.

Yelp
Extremely disappointed. Flies all over the bar and serving area. Bartender did not wash up or glove up before preparing the food and spent the entire time in small talk with the regulars while belittling other patrons of the bar who were within earshot.
google avatar

Ellen Y.

Yelp
Great local place right on the edge of center city. Come for drinks and a local bar feel, get the beef and cheese sandwich if you're hungry. Super affordable and good service.

Yelp
Interesting little corner bar we stopped at on Saint Patrick's Day. The front area seemed like a typical neighborhood bar, but it was filled so we were directed to the back which was giving me church basement vibes. Seemed like an addition with a hodgepodge of furniture. It felt like there was one guy tending bar, making food and serving, but he was nice and doing his best to get to everyone. My guess it was busier than usual due to the holiday. I ordered a vodka club soda and I'm not sure what vodka they used but it had a very strong taste that I didn't love. Long story short - I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but if you're in the area and need a drink, they'll take care of you here.

Jay G.

Yelp
I have visited Cherry St Tav many times over the years... the classic sandwiches, relaxed ambience, and quality beer taps have kept me coming back. But today, I had the worst service I have ever experienced there. The young male bartender couldn't have been more miserable, more rude, more ungrateful, or more inattentive. At one point I thought to myself, he must be related to an owner, because I couldn't see how he could keep this job otherwise.
google avatar

Christine C.

Yelp
Small neigborhood bar, decent food and beer selection. Guinness was served in a small glass with a single pour!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been a huge fan since 1992! Philly's best roast beef and roast pork sandwiches, as well as really entertaining people watching.
google avatar

Yelp
A true neighborhood dive. Charming, quaint, and welcoming, it feels like this place has been around for forever. After being closed for about 6 months, they opened up again about 4 weeks ago in September and I am so glad they did! Bill, the owner, was warm and welcoming. Menu was limited (but plenty) as they are just opening up again. Great beer selection and spaced out tables. I hope this place never goes out of business.

Yelp
Wanting to relax for a bit after hours at the Franklin Institute we checked Yelp and found Cherry Street. Chill is what I felt when we walked in around lunchtime. Chill as in a nice vibe, no frills, relaxed kind of place. We took a table in front of the bar and marvelled at the old dark wood bar. What struck me was how clean it was. None of that stale beer smell you get in other taverns. The menu is very limited but I think that's on purpose because they are making the food within eyesight and even the cook checks on you to see if you are fine, need anything etc. We both ordered the " Famous" Hot Roast beef. It was as good as any we've had and we enjoyed it. There was a domestic beer special on bottles for $3. Nice! Service was very attentive. The cook may have been the owner because after we were done he returned to ask us how it was. We enjoyed our meal in a pleasant environment.

Yelp
Outstanding neighborhood bar, The bartenders are always fun to talk to, and there is solid beer selection with some seasonal's that change pretty frequently, if you are getting food I would recommend the chicken salad sandwich, or nachos.
google avatar

Travis G.

Yelp
Cool old corner bar. Kind to outsiders. The roast beef is something special. Definitely worth a stop if in the area visiting.

Yelp
Hidden gem of a dive bar. We were looking for a place to hole up for a light lunch and a couple of beers while figuring out what to do for the rest of the day. After walking in you immediately either love the divey vibe or you walk back out. The only thing on tap is beer-all their sodas are canned, but they have pretty much every lower shelf liquor know to man available-and some great beers on tap. I personally got the Guniess and a local porter to drink. My companion tried the suite of IPAs-3 total on tap. As per the suggestion of the bar tender we ordered a small nacho and a hot beef sandwich to split, and that was plenty of food. The nachos had like...4 different types of chips which made us giggle, but it was layered well with plenty of cheese and chili. The hot beef on Kaiser with Swiss cheese was simply delicious. Seriously. Hit up this place if you want some good eats and beer!

Yelp
One of the best places to get a roast beef sandwich. It has provolone and some fresh horseradish on the side. The only complaint here is that the sandwiches are so popular that you may need to wait awhile before getting them on a busy night. Great atmosphere. TV's playing whatever sports is on. Lots of variety on tap. Back area if it gets too crowded. Great local pub
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
You come here for the atmosphere. It's a neighborhood bar where you have a lot of regulars and meet the most interesting people. The staff is extremely friendly and they are known for their sandwiches. You could goto another place for the food, but won't have the same welcoming environment.

Chase B.

Yelp
Best sandwiches in Philly, the roast beef and roast pork here are famous and deserve to be. The owners are awesome, 2 of the nicest guys in the world. It's a classic bar, friendly bartenders, regulars and a great beer selection. We love having work happy hours there. Definitely one of my favorite bars in the world.
google avatar

Nan G.

Yelp
What a nice place! It's very low key and friendly. I was hungry for a sandwich on my way home from work and finally stopped in for a roast beef! It was a relaxing time and I will definitely come again.
google avatar

Douglas A.

Yelp
This place is everything a neighborhood bar should be! It has a friendly vibe and lots of locals. It is right around the corner from the Franklin Institute and a short walk from museums along the parkway. Once inside you see a huge bar that looks like it is right out of the Wild West. The bartender are expert and the list of draft beers is solid. The menu is small but has a must order item on it, the hot roast beef sandwich may look like a heart attack on a bun but if you are going to go, this is your ticket to heaven! OMG! The best roast beef sandwich in the world! (Get the American cheese on it-delish!). Can't lose if you order this. Comes with a crispy pickle and a big pot of horseradish which you should slather on your RB with abandon! This thing is huge but surprisingly light, juicy, and flavorful.

Yelp
Great spot for drinks and a fresh roast beef sammy. Not a fan of any other food but great service and drink specials.
google avatar

Craig C.

Yelp
They have the best roast beef sandwiches in town. The beef is hand cut and piled high. Great service, very cold beer, long hots, Phillies game, and a good selection of Irish whiskey. What else could anyone want? One of the nicest bars around.
google avatar

Abigail W.

Yelp
No fuss, small menu. great music kind of place. A couple of us were in the area and I needed to get a bite to eat. The simple menu here looked perfect and it hit the spot. The nachos with chili, the hot roast beef with swiss- every bite was tasty. The sandwich was huge and juicy. Beer menu has just the right choices on it. Sports playing on the tv and live music was going on in the back room. Definitely a great place to gather with friends :)

Yelp
Stopped in here before Science After Hours at the Franklin Institute (a monthly 21+ gathering mixing science and alcohol...check it out). Cherry Street Tavern is only a couple blocks from the museum, and my boyfriend and I were looking for a quick bite before heading to the event. The menu is very limited, but I don't hold that against a place as long as the few items they do offer are very good. After being greeted by our friendly server, we each got a beer and a hot Roast Pork Sandwich with provolone and long hots added. Overall I liked the sandwich and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The bread was phenomenal! So fresh and soft with a crisp exterior. However, by the time it got to me, one side of the roll was completely soaked through. I realize some people may like this but I have a strong aversion to soggy bread. If you're like me, I would recommend asking for the sandwich dry. I'll try this next time to see if it cuts down on the soggy factor. Also on the sandwich were roast pork and provolone, which were both good, but I think I'd upgrade to the sharp provolone next time for more flavor. The long hots didn't do anything for me so I'd skip those in the future. When you get your sandwich, you'll be served horseradish on the side which I thought added a great boost of flavor. Overall, this is a place I'd visit again for a quick beer or bite of food, especially if I had something planned at the Franklin Institute. Next time I may try their Hot Roast Beef, which everyone seems to rave about!

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood bar. Super friendly Bartenders, amazing sandwiches and they always have great music. Good place to watch the game and hang with friends (or stop in for a drink alone). If you're in the area, stop in! They have more than just the basics on draft. Awesome spot!
google avatar

Katrina L.

Yelp
As many others have stated, the roast beef sandwich is amazing. Seriously among the best sandwiches I've ever had. Cherry Street is a low-key bar-restaurant with a great draft beer selection. And awesome sandwiches (hot and cold). Our roast beef sandwich bun was soft and fresh, the roast beef was warm and was a generous serving, and horseradish was delicious (not too spicy like other places). They also have snacks like cheese and crackers or nachos. We had the cheese and crackers - also a generous size for 2 and cheese was yummy. Service was fantastic. Our server was making sandwiches, pouring beers and waiting on tables - and he was super friendly. Can't wait to come back here!

Yelp
Where everybody knows your name. Neighborhood tavern with great ambience. No, ambience is not the right word. This is a friendly place two blocks from home. Walk to it. Drink. Walk home. I love it.
google avatar

Steve D.

Yelp
Nice small tavern kinda pricey on the food considering what you get. The nicest thing about this place is probably how old it is and the classic feel of oldetime philly that you get here. As for food, i ordered a corned beef reuban which was just Ok and pretty small. It also came with a bag of chips which for me is a meal killer. Anyplace that gives out a bag of chips is a joke if you ask me.....I mean there's a million better options that you can do; doling out a bag of chips says you don't want to be creative and maybe you just don't care. Step up your game guys!!! The bar is too nice to flounder on the food.

Paula T.

Yelp
We love the food, atmosphere and history of Cherry Street Tavern. Problem is the owners allows a bartender we shall call "A", is openly rude and hostile to most customers. Life is too short .
google avatar

Reisi F.

Yelp
I don't eat much red meat but the hot roast beef sandwich here is to die for! The turkey chili is equally yummy!

Biff P.

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in the whole city. A great, friendly vibe, cheap beer, game is always on.
google avatar

Adam S.

Yelp
OK it's a tavern, so we know drink specials and drinks should be awesome, and they are. What you wouldn't know is awesome is their bomb chicken salad. Who came up with this recipe? They deserve a Nobel Prize for best chicken salad. Ever. That is all. Go find out for yourselves.
google avatar

Josepf H.

Yelp
Great place, super friendly people who care about your experience. Intentionally limited menu but great. We both had the hot roast beef, me with sharp provolone. Great, reasonably priced, quick service. We also had a nice stout off draft. 30 or so brews available via tap or bottle. Decent collection for a corner dive bar. We'll be back.
google avatar

Ian S.

Yelp
Classic local neighborhood tavern, perfect spot to grab a drink before an event at the Franklin Institute. Solid beer list, friendly bartenders, somewhat limited food options but everything smelled good and prices seemed super reasonable. No arguments from me, thanks for the brew and hopefully I will be back and get to have another soon. Good spot!

Debbie K.

Yelp
Sooooo good. I like to take my dogs here and sit outside. Great selection of beer but also love their roast beef. Must try!
google avatar

Secret V.

Yelp
Rarely do I give a place one star, but when I order a sandwich and it takes an hour to arrive, that's one-Star service. And when that sandwich is not the sandwich I asked for, I'd take that one star away if I could.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Small place, but the roast beef sandwiches were spot on... I dreamed of roast beef that night... thanks
google avatar

Caitlin R.

Yelp
The local bar where you want them to learn your name! Fantastic chili and roast beef sandwiches.

Yelp
Possibly the best local bar ever? Cherry Street Tavern is such a good local watering hole and it has been there for forever. The kick wall at the bar used to be a urinal. It's super cheap, the staff treats you like family and they have a great rotating draft beer menu. I love the roast beef sandwich there (don't forget the horseradish).
