The 18 Best Beer Gardens In London - London - The Infatuation

"The Chesham Arms’ homely garden used to be something of a secret. You could walk down the stairs of the little terrace at this Homerton boozer, and choose from one of the 20-or-so benches on the lawn, catching the sun like an IPA-fuelled Garden of Eden. These days, it’s more of a bunfight, and you’ll have to queue outside. But it’s one of east London’s most good-looking outdoor spaces, and once you’re directed to a table, it’ll be yours." - jake missing, daisy meager, heidi lauth beasley

London’s Best Local Pubs and West End Boozers | Eater London

"The Chesham Arms is a Hackney treasure — 150-odd years old, it was nearly demolished to make way for more property development until the efforts of a community group secured its future. Re-opened in 2015, it was awarded CAMRA East London Pub of the Year 2016. Find refuge in this quiet little back street boozer — choose from an array of real ales and local craft beers, and order in dinner from nearby Yardsale Pizza." - James Hansen

7 Pubs With Outdoor Seating & Outstanding Food To Book Now - London - The Infatuation

"The Chesham Arms has one of the best (and most popular) pub gardens in the whole of Hackney. It’s big, it’s comfortable, and once you’re in you never want to leave. The catch? Well, there isn’t one. Sure it doesn’t technically serve it’s own food but you order in from Yard Sale and, frankly, we see that as an enormous bonus." - Jake Oliver

The Chesham Arms Review - Hackney - London - The Infatuation

"This is our confession: The Chesham Arms doesn’t actually serve food. But. BUT. It lets you order pizza from Yard Sale (one of our favourites), and also has one of the best gardens in London. So what you have is an excellent neighbourhood pub that’s often filled with lovely, happy people laughing, chatting, and eating pizza that’s larger than most one-bedroom flats." - Jake Missing

Great vibe pub with nice beers on tap. The courtyard or the back is absolutely lovely but closes at 10pm. Staff are lovely and polite about closing time. Hope I can come back for food

What a beautiful pub, I enjoyed the decor, the Brigid stained glass and the 'men to the left' sign. William Morris designed fabric too. Great service.

Recently added to TimeOut top 50 pubs in London so we checked it out and it is really buzzing, lovely open fireplaces. Seating indoors and outside. Games to play. Drinks were relatively cheap and an interesting selection. We tried the £4 mulled cider too and it was great. Excellent pub and we can see why it’s highly regarded.

🚇 Hackney Central 🍺 £6.00 Paulaner The Chesham Arms is located in a quaint residential street close to historical Sutton House in Hackney. The nearest station is Hackney Central on the the newly named Mildmay Line, Homerton station is also close by. This mid-terrace Victorian pub was built in 1866. In 2012, the pub closed after being purchased by a property developer who wanted to turn the pub into flats. Following a high-profile campaign to save it, led by the local community with support from Hackney Council, the pub reopened in June 2015. This is Hackney’s first pub to receive Asset of Community Value status. This is a one bar pub that is traditionally dedicated. The bar is set out in a “C” shape around a centrally located servery. The decor consists of a bare-boarded floor, conventional furniture, a stylish corner banquette, exposed brick fireplaces and a Joanna in the corner. Around the walls are an eclectic mix of art, prints and mirrors. At the rear of the pub is a cosy covered decked area that leads to a spacious beer garden. The beer selection is excellent and offers premium continental beers, London brews and for the cultured imbiber, five cask ales. I decided on a Paulaner, my pint was great, price point was average. The food option is @yardsalepizza who will deliver your Pizza to the pub. We arrived just after 1pm on a pleasant Saturday lunchtime in August. The pub was fairly quiet inside, the majority of punters were sat outside in the garden. There is a welcoming homely feel to the pub that made settling in very easy. The service was first class, the team were very friendly and personable. We loved our visit to this charming backstreet local. The setting is warm and welcoming, the beer choice is broad and the hospitality made us feel right at home. With unscrupulous developers putting profits above people, it just goes to show you what the power of community can do. The @cheshamarms is fantastic pub, a real success story, put this pub atop your pubs to visit list. 📅 31st August 2024 More London Pub info @londonpubmap 🍻

Great traditional pub tucked away in a quiet street very close to Hackney Central Overground. A good choice of ales and two German beers on tap. Also a very nice beer garden. Pizza is available at this location. Highly recommended.

Lovely pub. Nice interior and cool soundtrack. Excellent prices at £5 for a lager and £4.20 for the Rift pale ale. Great pizzas from Yardsale pizza too.

Great looking place inside and out. Good range of beers. Decent loos. And glory be, Community owned too. But freezing cold stout gave me neuralgia and meant I couldn't enjoy a swift pint. I'll have to linger longer next time!

Yelp
A quaint pub which is off-the-beaten track in Hackney Central. While I sometimes find the area bleak at best, the Chesham Arms looks like something taken out of West Hampstead. It's picturesque lampposts and leafy frontage are incredibly inviting. I can see why the community petitioned to save it from a terrible real estate redevelopment fate. The interior is a standard gastropub decor with two fireplaces (for when the beer garden is a bit too nippy). Big groups of young university aged people, board games, and a really remarkable beer garden (really something!) makes this pub a standout in the area. Real ales dominate, so forget your Stellas and Heinekens. There is a San Miguel though if you are really craving a familiar lager. I believe there is a simple food menu but they turn a blind eye to locals ordered pizza in, as I could tell from the 3 large boxes on the table next to us.

Yelp
Like so many of London's traditional watering holes, The Chesham Arms in Hackney faced closure in the name of property development. The fate of this local pub seemed certain- it was labelled as 'inviable' by developers- and a significant amount of renovation was required modernise the 150-year-old building. But this all-too-familiar London tale has a happy ending: the pub was saved at the hands of a local publican and has been restored to its former glory. The story behind the Chesham Arms is a tremendous victory for the local community and for punters alike. I visited the boozer after it was named Pub of the Year by CAMRA last week, mostly because I was surprised that- despite being on my doorstep- it was completely under my radar. It's a smallish pub with a mix of tables and stools at the bar, the environment was boisterous and friendly, the bartenders were personable and the crowd was diverse. We arrived in time to see an elderly couple- obviously regulars- being warmly seen off by staff after enjoying a quiet tipple. As the night went on, there were larger, younger groups arriving, but games of Scrabble were still being waged and pizzas delivered by local pizzeria, Yard Sale. The music was decent and the selection of beer, both on tap and cask, was unbeatable and rotated in front of our eyes. The Chesham Arms is so utterly charming that it will make you envious of the lucky local residents. We popped in just for a pint, but ultimately planted ourselves there for a few hours, freely chatting with others at the bar and trying some great local beers. The pub retains a sense of its history, keeping a traditional décor and not opting for anything too flashy in the vein of mismatched furniture or gimmicky fixtures. They are intending to eventually open a kitchen, but I can vouch for the pizzas that were being delivered in droves (you can get your menu at the bar)- they looked hot, gooey and plentiful. The story behind The Cheshire Arms is at the crux of its identity, but it's a pub successful on every front. If you're in East London and not wary of going off the beaten track, it's worth the effort. If nothing else, your visit will restore your faith in just what a community can achieve in the face of gentrification, modernisation and unviability. Just don't tell too many people- there are only so many seats at the bar.

Yelp
What a wonderful little pub with a large beer garden. If our friend hadn't mentioned it, we would never have found it as is nestled away but that adds to its charm. Excellent local
