Where To Eat In Accra - Accra - The Infatuation

"Tilapia is the unofficial national fish of Ghana. Experiencing it at Chez Amis is a bucket-list activity for anyone who lives or visits the city. While the casual setting may not win any prizes for décor and, dare we say it, vibes, you’re here for the fish, which is delectably seasoned to the point where the flavour reaches the bones. It’s topped with fried onions and peppers, egg, and avocado, and comes with a choice of two sides, and three types of pepper sauces with spice levels ranging from “hot” to “why are you crying?” We recommend getting the attieke, a popular crushed fermented cassava side dish courtesy of our Ivorian neighbours. If you’re a fish or tilapia hater, you can still also have a wonderful meal with a range of fried and grilled meats, like chicken, turkey, goat, and snail." - eileen twum

My friend and I recently lunched here and had a generally enjoyable experience. The food was delicious, and the location was convenient, situated by the roadside and easy to find. We opted for the medium attieke at 350 GHS, which came with a generous serving of two portions, accompanied by nicely grilled tilapia, fried plantain, fried eggs, and three different pepper sauces. The quality of the food was impressive. However, sitting under the canapé outside, I noticed a sharp, unpleasant odor emanating from time to time, which needs attention from the management. Furthermore, I was shocked by the exorbitant prices of drinks. A Spirit that typically costs less than 10 GHS was 50 GHS, while an Alvaro cost 30 GHS. I strongly advise potential customers to inquire about drink prices before ordering and3. Sadly, they don’t take card payments 😔

I got the tilapia with attieke, fried plantain, fried egg, avocado and pepper. Wasn’t bad but the egg had a bit of shells in them. Tilapia was nice and the attieke was okay. I’ve been craving Ivorian food so this was okay. The plantain and attieke was the nicest part of this dish. Overall this was an average dish, not the tastiest but it’s okay. Spent 220 gh on this meal (tilapia was MEDIUM SIZED), very expensive but this is an east legon restaurant so pay attention!

The restaurant has a perfect location and is very easy to find. Portion sizes were fair for the price, and overall service was okay. However, I found the food a little too oily, and the vegetables were overcooked. The place also felt quite noisy, which took away from the dining experience. With some improvements to food preparation and ambiance, this could be a much better spot.

Chez Amis was a pleasant introduction to “Attieke”. I was worried about trying a new Ivorian delicacy and being underwhelmed but thankfully that wasn’t the case. My company included a party of five women. We had the the Lastge Attieke package which went for 400gh. It came with two pieces of tilapia fish(one large, one medium) and three Attieke bowls. We each ordered a drink and bottles of water. For five people, our total came to 760gh and we each paid 152gh. In my opinion that’s a pretty affordable deal. With regard to the service, our server was a bit lackadaisical with his delivery but after speaking to him, he quickly responded with a change of attitude. I really appreciated this. Let me quickly add that the staff go an extra mile to ensure transparency with payments. We made combined Momo and cash payments. Even though the Momo phone wasn’t readily available, we were able to be transparent with discussions and reached a favorable outcome. All in all was a pleasant experience. I highly recommend you to give them a try

Service is horrendous. I would never come to this place even if someone paid me to eat here. Took an hour to get the food and the food was mediocre. Never ever coming back. The bathroom didn’t have water to flush. The sink didn’t have water to wash your hands after using the bathroom. I don’t think the staff wash their hands. There is no water!! Just a bad experience.

Food is top notch (but overly priced) but sadly, I can’t say same about the service. Our food took so long to be served. We had to keep fanning our food with our hands to prevent houseflies from landing on it 🤦🏾‍♀️

Food is great but service is slow. There was a cockroach whilst we were sitting outside so decided to move inside. We also saw 2 different sets of people disputing something with the waiters and also a woman physically push a waitress in anger which makes me question how management treat their staff.
