Thank you fellow food bloggers and Yelpers for alerting me to this little BBQ treasure in Quebec! It just a small place, built like a shack, with lots of kitchy BBQ, and American gun decorations all over....very fun and cozy feeling.
We first tried to get in here when we arrived Sat night, but were turned away, as they were packed and totally booked for the rest of the night. We were so surprised that a BBQ joint needed reservations, but just from the wonderful smoke and BBQ sauce aromas that hit us when we opened the door, we suspected why. We made reservations for Tues night and returned hungry. We ordered a plate of brisket (4 slices), and plate of pork ribs (4 ribs) a combo plate (2 ribs, 2 brisket slices, and a pork sausage), sweet potato Quebecois style, and for grins..a unique Quebec dish of fried strips of pig fat.(cannot remember the name).
OMGx2. I have traveled all over the USA, and this was the best BBQ brisket I have ever had. Melt in your mouth tender, and very juicy, with a perfect BBQ sauce. Hats off to Mr. Biceps, a true BBQ Wizard! The ribs were very delicious too; fall off the bone tender. We really loved the sauce they were basted with, just perfectly balanced sweet, carmely, slightly spicy.
The sweet potatoes were simply baked, then served with large crumples of house bacon and creme fresh on top, with some arugala, and a drizzle of truffle oil. I normally am a big fan of truffle oil on anything, but not this time. For me anyway, it was an odd combination.
The deep fried strips of pig fat were unique and tasted just like you would think. I can see why that dish is local to only Quebec, as it is certainly an acquired taste. I think that fried pork skins are a much tasterier piggy snack treat.
I highly recommend this place if you are in Quebec, and want something different that French or Italian.
