The Best Restaurants in Potrero Hill | Eater SF

"Chez Maman serves the kind of delectable French food your mom used to make — if your mom was a French woman who was not afraid to use a ton of butter, poured generous amounts of wine, and always thought you should order dessert. Because those odds are low, that’s one more reason to dine at this tiny 10-seat restaurant (plus a bar where you can eat). Must-order dishes include the French onion soup, escargots, any of the mussels, and the “basic” burger, which is anything but basic. The crepes are très bonne as well, but skip the savory version and order a sweet one for dessert." - Dianne de Guzman

Where To Eat & Drink In Potrero Hill - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"We wish there was a Chez Maman on every corner. This French spot is always packed and with good reason—they serve French comfort food, like roast chicken, pork chops, paninis, salads, and crepes that are good for both weeknight dates and quiet Sundays when you just need to space out and dive headfirst into a bowl of French onion soup." - team infatuation

Chez Maman East - Review - Potrero Hill - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"At Chez Maman in Potrero Hill, you can get things like mussels and fries, French onion soup, and roast chicken to go with your garlic mashed potatoes. None of the food is overly showy, but it’s a level of comfort food that’s hard to beat—this spot feels like the neighborhood restaurant that everyone should be fighting to be close to their house. Head here for a low-key date that’ll impress whoever you’re with, even if you aren't trying to." - Will Kamensky

We came here around 7:30pm on a Sunday in December, and sat outside under the headlamps on the covered sidewalk. I was warm enough o remove my jacket. We were waited on promptly, and opted for the absolutely amazing French onion soup--- this is a must. And I mention it first because it was our favorite. We both ordered the $20 burgers, a steal of a deal; it will fill you up! She got the salmon burger with side salad (which was huge), and I got the beef burger with the $3 cheese add on and fries. Both can on ciabatta rolls. I like that the burger came with a side of greens and caramelized onions to put on it if you like. I asked for a side of mustard, and that was tasty on the burger. The aioli is strong on the garlic, so if you enjoy that taste you'll love a side of that to dip your fries in. All in all an enjoyable dinner. Not my favorite burger but pretty darn good! Love the small crispy fries. Ambiance is cozy.

Came here and had a wonderful time. Staff is super warm and welcoming. Started with the French onion soup which was great, I love the textures between the crisp bread and crispy, stretchy cheese. I got the roast chicken which was delicious, crispy skin and pretty moist. I think the breast part was slightly dry on the inside but the leg was super juicy and tender. The sauce on the chicken was really incredible. The chicken plate is definitely a lot of food for one person. Will definitely be back for this neighborhood staple!

I stopped by on my trip to SF and it did not disappoint! My server Roberto provided excellent customer service. I tried the escargot, mussels in white wine, potatoes au gratin, affagato, white wine and chocolate cake. Everything was so flavorful and you can really taste the fresh quality ingredients. This place also has a great view of the city.

Google
Be prepared for a wait—there’s often a long line, but it’s absolutely worth it. The food was fantastic overall. The escargot is a must-try: rich, garlicky, and perfectly cooked. The sole was incredibly tender and flavorful—definitely a highlight. The French onion soup, while comforting, was a bit too salty for my taste. I also tried the crepe, which had a great texture and was well-executed, though slightly salty as well. Despite that, everything was delicious and full of character. Would return!

Google
Chez Maman East is a small space filed with Potrero regulars who dine here multiple times a week. The French onion soup is the dish most people talk about, with a cheese cap that melts into long, stringy pulls that stay intact all the way to the last spoonful. The rest of the menu runs through the usual bistro plates, and the bar seats give you the best view and the quickest service.

Google
Love this neighborhood Gem, Chez Maman East along with its sister restaurant Chez Maman West in Hayes Valley. I usually get a burger or roast chicken but opted for their Nicoise Salad. A generous bowl Filled with fresh crisp greens, green beans,, tomatoes, potatoes, eggs and topped with 3 slabs of ahi tuna. A light vinaigrette along with an olive tapenade ties the salad together. Solid! We finished with dessert, Pain Perdu is like a cross between bread pudding and French toast, and apple tart., warm, flaky covered with ice cream. Service was friendly and efficient. We were there early since we were going to the Valkyrie’s game, an easy walk DOWN to Chase Center, we avoided the crowd that started filling the place as we were leaving. This is French comfort food, in a cute setting. It gets crowed and noisy which adds to the ambience!

Google
Lunch of steak and frites. The steak was good, lots of good flavor. Peppercorn sauce was on the watery side, should've been thicker. The aioli had slight taste of garlic. French fries were subpar, they didn't taste fresh. Ice tea was good. Service was excellent. If I went back I would get a burger and a salad, skip the fries. The atmosphere is very nice. Definitely worth a try for lunch.

Google
The baked chicken was very good. The crème brûlée is a little big so definitely share it. Salted caramel ice cream is good as well.

Yelp
Chez Maman East served up tasty French food with good service in a casual exterior (with heating) atmosphere on my visit. FOOD (Everything served was delish, especially the entrees!) - FRENCH "ACME" BAGUETTE & BUTTER - FRENCH ONION SOUP - ESCARGOTS DE BOURGOGNE: Parsley, garlic butter w snail tongs for slip control - PETRALE SOLE MEUNIERE: Pan seared petrale sole Meuniere, haricot vert - VEAL: Creamy white wine sauce, vegetables, mushrooms

Yelp
I've been wanting to try chez maman for a while and my friend and I finally got the chance to come for dinner! they don't take reservations but we came early and were sat outside which was beautifully decorated with lights. I ordered the hachis parmentier which is basically a shephard's pie, as my waiter told us. It had a layer of ground beef topped with potatoes and a layer of crispy cheese. I can't imagine how that combination could be bad, but it still exceeded my expectations. It was so incredibly rich and flavorful, and I could see myself having that as a comfort food now. my friend ordered a chicken burger and said it was delicious especially with the grilled onions. I will definitely be back to try more of the food- there were so many dishes that sounded amazing. the hostess and waiters were very kind and knowledgeable as well. the location in potrero hill is small but charming and beautiful, and we had an amazing experience for dinner. I'll be back!

Yelp
Been over a decade from last visit. Times changed - they now charge $4 for bread and butter. It's still nice, authentic rich onion soup but far saltier than I recall. Price is high for what you get. Service was mediocre.

Yelp
I really like Chez Maman East. It's delicious and friendly and fast and pretty unpretentious for San Francisco dining. Also, parking nearby is a breeze in Potrero Hill. The service is friendly and speedy, accommodating and no-nonsense. I ordered a croque madame (only $1 more for the fried egg on top, so worth it) which came with a large side salad. The only thing that could be a bit better is if the salad wasn't doused in so much oil and vinaigrette dressing because it made the salad pretty soggy. But the portion size of both the sandwich and the salad was really generous. To the point that I could only eat half my sandwich! I would have taken it to go, but I was headed to the symphony after and it seemed a bit awkward to leave leftovers in the car for 4 hours, even at night. I could tell this is a local favorite because there were many groups who you could tell lived in the neighborhood, including a group of parent friends with their young children. They got many bowls of the specialty mussels and the kids, aged 5-7 or so, dug in heartily! I was impressed. I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants a tasty meal at a reasonable price point in SF!

Yelp
Had to update my review since I came and tried new items! I love bringing friends here for an SF taste of French food :) I got the burger as I've been on the hunt for a good burger in Potrero Hill, and this did not disappoint! I did have to add $3 for the Swiss cheese, but the cheese pull made it more than worth it! Every bite was great, the fries were amazing and crispy, and the garlic aioli on the side was the perfect cherry on top! The portion size was also fairly large! The ambiance is very lovely and quaint. I found it very charming! Moreover, the servers were so nice! They even gave my friend a sweetened iced tea in the house. Overall, another 10/10 experience! I would definitely come back to try the other dishes, like the croque monsieur and madame!

Yelp
So good! Came in for brunch for 2 on a Saturday at around 11am. Plenty of outside and inside seating available at this time, we were seated immediately. We ordered the Tomato Omelette and Poulette Moules and Frites to share between the 2 of us. Portion-wise this is a pretty light meal, which was what we wanted. If we were properly hungry the moulettes (no frites) plus 2 more entrees would definitely be the way to go. The standout for us were definitely the moules!! The sauce is so creamy and can stand as a soup by itself. The mussels are clean and well steamed, all open pretty easily. This was really good to eat with a spoon to scoop some soup, mussel, and dunked fries and eat in one bite. Super creamy and fresh, with texture from the fries. Delicious! Next time we'll come back and try the moules with baguette side. I feel like the soup was so good it'd be great to try soaking it up with bread to get more per bite. Definitely would recommend this spot for casual brunch or a cute date!

Yelp
Always delicious when you can get a spot. Chez Maman stays open late, and that is when I have had the best luck in getting seated. The moules are a must for a group meal and the nicoise salad was surprisingly filling. As for appetizers, the beef tartare was a mustardy delight that we tried most recently.

Yelp
Yup I still eat here often. The menu doesn't change much but they do change how particular dishes are made, generally for the better. I might have had the hamburger today, but they switched it to grass fed and for me it's a bit livery (I like grain finish.) Husband had this a few weeks ago and we were all sad about it. French onion soup is still solid. The Eggs Benedict (weekend brunch menu) has very good hollandaise sauce. The Frisée salad is still the bomb. The salad Nicoise is okay (the dressing is good) but nothing to write home about. The pork chop is still incredible! Get this if you are unsure of what to order. Guaranteed happiness. The views are still anazing and the staff very professional. And yes I will continue to eat here pretty often!

Yelp
Came here since Plow was too long of a wait. We sat in the outdoor parklet area, which was a bit tight between tables. I had the duck confit, but that was a bit on the dryer side. Honestly not a bad alternative if other restaurants nearby have a ridiculous wait, and I don't get the hype with Plow anyways.
google avatar

Lisa W.

Yelp
Another stellar lunch at Chez Maman! Staff are courteous & accommodating Views are excellent Food is scrumptious! The endive salad was divine as was the buckwheat with mushroom crepe. My friend devoured her salmon Nicoise. We were so full we had no room for dessert......unfortunately
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
I liked my Eggs Benedict, there was plenty of Hollandaise. Bf didn't like his chicken pesto sandwich as much. The duck confit here is also quite good! We arrived at 1pm, and it was a short wait and people who arrived after us were seated right away.

Yelp
had a really simple visit but sitting on the patio in the rain was such a cool vibe. the food was delicious and the waitress was pretty quick with helping us which I really appreciated. Will be coming back for a more robust meal

Yelp
"Exceedingly average" is how I'd describe our experience at Chez Maman. We got the burger, the chicken crepe, and the French onion soup. The soup was the real star of the meal - with a delicious concentrated onion flavor. The burger was kind of dry which was made worse by hard/cold ciabatta bread it came with. The chicken crepe was unremarkable and we struggled to finish it - I wish there was more flavor to it.

Yelp
4.5 stars I had a craving recently and so came in to get my moules (mariniere) and frites fix. Over the years I have frequented this particular location and it is consistently delicious. The aioli that comes with the fries is amazing! Service is also very attentive and parking is relatively easy. Casual and comfortable atmosphere with outdoor seating available. Love this place!

Yelp
Superb lunch spot when I worked and lived nearby. Haven't experienced anything quite like it before or since. We preferred Chez Papa around the corner for dinner, but they have unfortunately closed. It's good to see Chez Maman succeed.

Yelp
On a Monday, a couple gf and I went to the city for a quick trip to the jewelry mart & lunch. We decided to try Chez Maman - it was busy every interior table was taken as well as the tables on the outdoor patio area. We also had a party of 3 ahead of us. The party ahead of us did not want the table next to the door so we were seated after a 10 minute wait time. We tried the Caesar salad with chicken and Nicoise salad with salmon, and the endive salad with salmon, a side of French fries with aioli and bread and butter. And shared a bottle of Sancerre, which was exceptionally delicious! The fries were fantastic and we all enjoyed our salads! It was perfect before we headed back home to pick up kiddos from school!
google avatar

Yelp
What a gorgeous cafe with sidewalks seating and a cute interior. We came on a Wednesday night after work and it was very easy to get a table for 2 (although for larger groups there was a bit of a wait). We were seated and served right away, and the food came out fairly quickly as well. We ordered the moules marnière, French fries with aioli, and a warm goat cheese salad. Everything tasted so delicious. The warm goat cheese was so good on top of the fresh arugula. And the sauce under the mussels was great for dipping our bread in.

Yelp
Service is on top of their game! From the hostess to the chefs, the entire crew was helpful and warm. It was a busy SAT night, but we were fine waiting with a glass of wine. My wife and want to take our son out for a nice French dinner. We feasted on escargot, steamed mussels, salad w/ burrata, baked potato soup, hamburger & duck confit. For dessert, cinnamon pain perdu - heck yeah! Overall, we enjoyed every dish. Would've liked the duck to be more tender, but we still murdered that plate. The burger was primo and we really liked the soup and dessert. The vibe inside was lively, but not too noisy and we had plenty of space. I'm sure we'll make our way back to Chez Maman =]
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to their Hayes Valley location but never got to try their burger, so I had to come to their other location and try it here! On a Sunday around 12:30 PM, the tables were filled with brunch and lunch parties. Our party of 3 opted for the counter seating so we could get seated right away. The view is of the street and the patrons eating at the outside tables right in front of the window, which made for some awkward eye contact. The restaurant was filled with conversation but still had a calm atmosphere, and the waitstaff were super attentive and kept checking in to make sure we were having a good time and enjoying the meal. I got the Chez Maman Burger with Brie -- would definitely recommend! With the giant juicy slices of heirloom tomatoes and the caramelized onions, the creamy brie really elevated the experience. I loved the ciabatta roll as the bun as well, and they were very generous with fries. Unusual to go to a French spot for a burger, but would come back for it!
google avatar

Yelp
We started with the escargots. There were 6 large snails served in a garlic butter sauce. They had a good texture but I feel like they could have been less salty but with more umami. Then we had the nicoise salad. The vegetables were fresh and the fish was delicious. The dressing went well with the selection of ingredients. We ordered the moules poulette, which came in a small cast-iron pot. There were a large number of small mussels in shell, covered in a light but creamy garlic sauce, with bits of bacon throughout. The veal was lightly breaded and very tender and juicy. The sauce was creamy and the vegetables on the side provided brightness and color. The duck confit was very savory and flavorful. The potatoes gratin balanced out the flavor well and the green beans had a nice texture.

Yelp
This restaurant is a staple, not only of Potrero Hill, but San Francisco as a whole. The food is always amazing. The atmosphere is always lively and fun. The owner comes by sometimes to check on you to see how everything is going. It's just such a nice vibe and last night, like usual, we had really great service. Garen is always very courteous and doesn't rush you, gives you time to decide, gives you great suggestions, and really helps make your night peaceful. This is just one of many restaurants that define why San Francisco is a food destination. Try the pork chop, you will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
Love this french restaurant near Portrero Hill! This location is the best the view is so pretty and the outdoor seating is spacious and elegant. The restaurant is more of an intimate ambiance, cozy, warm and comfortable. This is one of the best staff that I've experienced in SF in a while. The hosts and servers are always so nice and accommodating. I've been here for dinner and always get mussels with french fries! The fish plates are always amazing, as well as the desserts. I came here for lunch recently after bouldering in Dogpatch and we got paninis and french fries.

Yelp
This is an embarrassing story. I wanted to take my parents to Parker Potrero for Sunday brunch. As you probably know, Parker Potrero is at the southeast corner of Missouri & 18th Streets in, of course, Potrero Hill. As we drove there, I told my parents that I would drop them off before looking for parking, because parking in the neighborhood isn't typically difficult, but it requires walking up and down some steep hills that I no longer want to subject my parents to. So I dropped them off and told my mom to text me how long the wait was. If it were too long, I would either pick them up or walk with them to another restaurant, depending on where I parked. I circled a few times and finally settled on a spot about halfway up the (steep-hill) block from where I had dropped them off. My mom called and told me it was an hour wait. An hour? I knew it was a Sunday, but for Parker Potrero? So I told her to wait right there, I would see her and my dad soon. I walked down the street to collect them, but they weren't looking for their son on foot; my mom thought I meant I was going to pick them up. Anyway, we started walking, and my dad was annoyed because he didn't know what was going on, and I finally explained to them that we were going to try some other places that were within flat walking distance. Chez Maman East wasn't my first (second) choice, but it was close, and when we got right to its front door, I could see that some people were leaving. My mom seemed fine with it, but my dad wondered if there were better places, like the place across the street. I told him that the better options were actually another block west. The very kind hostess eventually got us a nice table on the sidewalk. My dad was worried about how cold it was and that we were at an angle, but they do have effective heating lamps, and while the sidewalk is slightly angled, our table was pretty flat. I'll get back to Chez Maman later, but when we were leaving after thoroughly enjoying our meal, I told my parents I would go get the car and pick them up right across the street from Chez Maman. That across-the-street destination ended up being Parker Potrero! Do you get what happened? Chez Maman is across the street from Parker Potrero. I didn't know that; I thought Chez Maman was across the street from Plough, which has a notorious line. But nope, I had my streets wrong, and I had dropped my parents off at Plough, which is at the southeast corner of Texas & 18th Streets. So I had the southeast-corner and the 18th Street parts right, but not the cross street. In short: We probably could have eaten at Parker Potrero from the start! So I still want to take my parents there, but I'm really glad I tried Chez Maman East, because I always assumed with like 97 percent likelihood of accuracy that Chez Maman East would simply be the easterly version of its pretentious original location in Hayes Valley. But you know what? I was wrong, and I admit it. Here: I WAS WRONG! I ADMIT IT. Chez Maman East isn't pretentious, so the original might not be as well--OK, OK, I'm getting a little carried away here. Anyway, the service was excellent, and the food was very good. Yes, it's French, but really only in an accented and design/look way, not in an attitudinal/culturally rude way. I don't remember what breakfast item I had, but it was really delicious. My parents both enjoyed their meals as well. My mom especially, which is noteworthy because she doesn't really like eating breakfast out. My dad also really liked the coffee.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! It's been my go to spot for all kinds of occasions over the years, and it never disappoints. The food always hits just right. It is so comforting, flavorful, and beautifully done. They have two locations, but Chez Maman East in Potrero Hill is hands down my favorite. It's tucked away from the usual crowd, making it feel like a little local secret. I always start with their baked camembert, beef tartare, and a side of French fries with aioli. The camembert comes out warm and gooey! The tartare is light, fresh, and balanced. And those fries? Simple, crispy perfection, made even better by that garlicky aioli. Love it! My go to entrée is their Marinière. The clams are perfectly cooked and swimming in the most flavorful garlic and shallot broth. It's comforting and elegant all at once. One of my absolute favorites! So glad to see they're still around. I can't wait to come back soon.

Yelp
What a great spot in the charming Potrero Hill neighborhood. They have seating at the bar or window bar, an outdoor parklet with heating, and also some very cozy tables for two inside. they have an extensive wine list and menu, covering all the classic French dishes we all know, as well as some exciting flavors to try. I got the sole dish, my mom and sister got a shephards pie type dish. We got done appetizers as well and French fries! ( gotta have that). We were greeted and seated quickly and our waiter was very attentive and helpful when we had questions. This will make for a great date night spot , as it's so cozy and romantic. my only suggestion would be to have French or Jazz music playing. They had 70s rock , which I don't mind, but it wasn't the right vibe for dinner.

Yelp
A true neighborhood spot with delicious food and wonderful service. Loved: Soup of the day - carrot with goat cheese soup Burger - medium rare. The brioche bun was fresh and toasted with crunchy bits Ham and cheese panini - open faced, French style Gelato - salted caramel with almonds Looking forward to coming back again already to enjoy the cute heated patio again.

Yelp
Wife and I took some friends to Chez Maman (East) for an early dinner and always, it did not disappoint. We devoured delicious salmon and pork chop entrees followed by rich desserts. The service was friendly and fast with a relatable, energetic atmosphere. One of our favorite local restaurants...

Yelp
Cute restaurant! Came here for lunch and ordered off the brunch menu. The regular menu is really hard to read. The font is awful LOL. But the food and the service was great! I really liked the outdoor seating they had. On a nice day, it's a great spot to enjoy a meal.

Yelp
A true San Francisco landmark and despite its long, successful history and many fans, it still seems criminally underrated in my book. Classic French diner with my favorite burger in the city. Unassumingly brilliant dishes that find the perfect balance between elegance and comfort. Excellent service and waitstaff as well. It's clear that service is a priority to this group and I've noticed it across the board at all their restaurants. Great low key date night spot or place to grab a bite and drink with a small group of friends.

Yelp
My friend and I originally wanted to go to Plow, but the line was a two hour wait, so we walked on over to Chez Maman instead. And boy am I glad to have gotten to try this place because of serendipity! I got the cheesiest, savoriest, and most delicious mushroom crepe! The servers were also super attentive and nice and there was no line! We chose to sit inside, but there is outdoor seating for a nice day as well.

Yelp
Warmly greeted and outstanding service from start to finish. Attentive, yet not rushed in the slightest -- despite how busy it was on a Sunday evening. Beverages brought out promptly and well tended to all evening. Starters were brought out together upon request. Entrees followed immediately afterwards. All of the dishes were hot on delivery. Nothing sat out. All dishes were timed perfectly... and we had a party of eight. The French Onion Soup is a classic. A wonderful appetizer, to be sure. The photo says it all. A creamy, cheesy delight. The Les Moules Mariniere was outstanding. A steamy pot of nicely sized mussels and no grittiness at all. The broth is amazing and is perfect for dipping French fries or bread. The Roasted Duck Confit was nice and tender. The sauce seemed familiar, perhaps too much like ordinary hoisin sauce. Nonetheless, it was delicious. An au gratin potato square comes on the side. The Mushroom Crepe was good, but I now know I prefer the other style of crepe. It was heavy for a crepe, IMO. I want to say the crepe was buckwheat. I could be wrong. I cannot find a description anywhere. Seating both inside and out. Street parking is available; however, a short, hilly walk is usually the norm. Nonetheless, quaint Chez Maman East is an absolute must when in the Potrero Hill neighborhood! Actually, it's worth making the drive, as well. Bon appetit!

Yelp
Delicious food! Flavor was there. The appetizers definitely stand out with great flavor like the escargot and the sausages. The entrees are really good, they really know how to cook the meat. I got the duck confit. Service was good and they were accommodating! Ambiance is cute, perfect for a romantic date!

Yelp
I've been to Chez Maman East multiple times now, and each visit has left me satisfied and wanting to return. The food is consistently great--simple yet flavorful French-inspired dishes that really hit the spot. From their savory crepes to the burgers with melted brie and aioli, everything feels thoughtfully made without being overcomplicated. What really makes this place special for me, though, is the location. Tucked into Potrero Hill, the cafe has this charming, relaxed vibe that makes you feel like you've stepped into a cozy neighborhood spot in France. The interior is quaint, but the real gem is sitting outside. On a clear day, you get this amazing view of the city skyline--it's easily one of my favorite spots in San Francisco to enjoy a casual lunch or slow brunch. It can get busy during peak hours, but the service always feels warm and unpretentious. It's definitely the kind of place where you can unwind and enjoy good food without the fuss. If you're in the area and want a laid-back French cafe experience, this one's worth checking out--especially if you can snag an outdoor table.

Yelp
Appreciated the counter service, easy and efficient. Food was delivered quickly, self-seating was hassle-free (outdoor/indoo, and the bathrooms upstairs were clean and secure. Great experience overall.

Yelp
I had a chance to try Chez Maman a while back - and I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. This is an upscale restaurant known for French food - and the food here is awesome. The ambiance here is perfect for a dinner our with friends or with your partner and the service is great. For my food, I tried the beef burger which comes on a ciabatta role (a little different from normal places. Overall the burger was good and flavorful and enjoyed munching on the fries it came with. Had a good experience here and would go back!

Yelp
Best cream of mushroom soup ever. Rave rave! Duck confit is perfect and delicious, super tender, fall-off-bone, yet crispy on outside. The chefs are awesome here Servers also know what they're talking about Always have a good experience when we come here.

Yelp
It was my first time at Chez Maman yesterday. We came around 1pm, and we had the choice of either indoor or outdoor seating. We chose to sit inside. I ordered the chicken panini, and my bf ordered the smoked salmon crepe. We also ordered a side of french fries. I liked the panini. The bread was crispy, and the pistou and aioli were really good. The flavors blended well together. The panini came with salad and there was a good amount of it. The fries were decent. They came with aioli, which I thought was very garlicky. I switched between dipping my fries in the aioli and ketchup but found myself preferring the ketchup more. Staff was attentive and quick.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this place for a while and finally did !! We went at 12 30 ish and the wait wasn't too crazy. The service was quite quick although we did notice that the paninis (at the table beside us) took a lot less time to be served compared to the meat/fish dishes we ordered. The people next to us had ordered French onion soup (same as us) and panini and they were done eating and had left just as we started eating our mains. There is also quite limited seating, the tables inside are quite close to each other, almost to the point that we felt like we were right up against the neighboring tables. I think outdoor tables didn't have this problem though I liked the pork chop a lot. I thought it was great value--a lot of food for a reasonable price. The pork was cooked to medium and it was fairly easy to cut through and wasn't too tough. I really loved the apple cider reduction sauce--it very much helped give the French vibes to the dish. The brussel sprouts was cooked perfectly until properly soft and there were also apples cooked till soft that added a bit of sour/sweet flavours to cut through the buttery rich sauce. The French onion soup had a crazy cheese pull that was quite yummy but the soup itself wasn't the best I've had. I wish it was reduced more and had stronger caramelized onion flavour. The bread they used also seemed to be a sourdough? (I think this is pretty typical of SF spots). I liked the bits with crust still attached but the soft parts were just alright.

Yelp
A place I haven't been to for a while. Today I just happened to be in the neighborhood and decided to stop in. We ordered the mussels with fries, frisée salad and chicken crepes. The mussels were plentiful and flavorful. The fries were crisp and lightly salted. The chicken filling was a little bland but the buckwheat crepe was cooked and seasoned well. The frisée salad was okay, the poached egg was over cooked so it didn't have the runny yolk to coat the salad. The lardon was a regular bacon not fried pork belly. The salad dressing didn't have the fat dripping from the pork belly. So it was a disappointing salad. But in all the food was good except for the salad. We'll be back again.

Yelp
We came for lunch on a Saturday and arrived around noon time to get seated outdoors right away, but it was super busy and packed shortly after! I got the eggs florentine which to be honest was a little disappointing - the spinach threw the flavor off for me and the english muffin was too dense and dry. However, my friend got the croque madame which was great. The aioli with the fries was also yummy. Service was very warm though and the vibes were nice and lively at this location. I would probably come back to try their other items!

Yelp
The food was good, felt very fancy. Tried the escargot and the beef tartare. The sauces made it very flavorful. Also got the thai mussels, there was a lot of them. I enjoyed the crepe for dessert. Dessert wines were sweet. Ambiance was great. The staff were really nice and friendly

Yelp
Amazing service! This is one of my favorite go to spots in the city. It gets pretty busy especially during dinner so be sure to take note of that when coming to dine. It is a rather small place but there is outside seating with heaters. The food comes out in a timely manner and the servers always check in with the food and filling up on drinks. My favorite starter is the escargot with bread. I think everything on the menu is tasty and worth a try!

Yelp
We have been coming to this location for years now, and we used to come every week to have a drink and eat at the bar while our son was taking his karate lesson down the hill. A couple days ago we came by as a family and had lunch and we were in a rush to get to an appointment and my husband forgot to write in the tip or even sign. Instead of a reasonable tip, our waiter helped himself to 30%. My husband said this had actually happened once before too. We will NEVER go back. 30% is ridiculous. I used to be a server and I would never have written in any tip, much less such a high one. It really feels like a betrayal because we are familiar with many of the staff and felt like this was our neighborhood place and now we feel so poorly used and treated. Shame on Chez Maman. Never again.

Yelp
I've walked past this place 1000 times and it's always packed. Fortunately my boyfriend and I were able to make a weeknight reservation. The host was kind and patient giving us the option of indoor or outdoor seating. Sunset had already fallen (which is an amazing view of the skyline by the way) so we opted for indoors. There was truly something for everyone on the menu. The waiter had good recommendations based on our appetite. My bf got one of the burgers and I chose the branzino. Everything was delicious! 10/10 for sure and I now know why they're always packed! We finished the dinner with coffee and crème brûlée because who goes to a French restaurant and doesn't get the crème brûlée. It was right on point of course. I appreciated the positive demeanor of all the staff especially because it was the end of what seemed like a very busy night. I even got to practice a little French! à bientôt Chez Maman!

Yelp
Top notch French restaurant in SF. Came here with a group and got to try several dishes on the menu. Our favorites were the les moulette (mussels) with mariniér broth and the mushroom crepe. Recommend getting the baguette to dip in the broth. And for any mousse fans the chocolate mousse is terrific. The filling in the mushroom crepe is very rich in flavor. On Friday nights I recommend coming early as it gets busy. Service is generally good, but unfortunately the servers do try to rush you a bit from the time you sit down to the time you pay. Don't expect a long casual European style dining experience outside of the food itself.

Yelp
Chez Maman, I really love your food and service. I have visited you at least 28 times over the past 10 years. But today was a bit rough at an afternoon lunch, seated facing your big window. Again, zero complaints on the food or servers, but the rock music playing was LOUD, loud enough for my Apple watch to ping me with a notification that it went up to 112 decibels at 2:08 PM. Yikes. Also, I love fresh air and I know most days, especially like today, you have your front door open, but flies have noticed your delicious food and were being a nuisance, settling repeatedly on the rim of my sparkling water (gourmands, I guess!) and crawling on my bare arm, and tasting my (admittedly delicious) tomato panini with pistou, Brie and prosciutto... If there is anything that can be done to reduce the insect tourism, that would be awesome. And less club bust-a-groove / more mellow bistro-level music would be appreciated. I feel old, but hey... Merci!

Yelp
The hostess is incredibly cheery and kind. She was attentive to all the guests waiting outside and even joined in on birthday singing at a table inside despite the rush of people. The male waiters, however, were not so attentive. One had a lazy attitude and another spilled an elderly guest's drink all over them, then dropped a plate before catching it. Maybe he was having an off day, poor guy. I would not recommend the Carbonara pasta simply because they put a raw egg on top of it and that's not how it is served in Italy nor in any Italian restaurants I've been to. I also do not recommend the burger since the bread is so dry. The truffle fries are good because they're crispy but you can barely taste any truffle, if at all. I also tried the French onion soup and maybe it's just not for me, but I didn't enjoy it and my partner couldn't finish it either. The only good dish I can recommend here is my partner's Duck Confit entree. That was tasty with great depth of flavor and comes with wonderfully cheesy scalloped potatoes and vegetables. I would only come back for the Duck Confit, nothing else seemed to stand out in the menu. Maybe the crepes?

Yelp
Overall the price is quite reasonable for the dishes. I have been here multiple times and have tried different dishes each time. I think in general, im not as impressed on the meat dishes, like pork chop or the tartare, they don't have as much flavors as some other dishes. The French onion soup is a must try, I think that is so far the best French onion soup I have had in the Bay Area
