We had the absolute pleasure of dining at Chez Marcel, and it was one of the most memorable meals of our trip. The ambiance is warm, authentic, and beautifully Parisian — the kind of place that feels both special and welcoming. The food? Truly outstanding. I had the duck, the lamb, the leeks, and finished with the millefeuille — and every dish was perfectly prepared and full of flavor. The duck was tender and rich, the lamb was melt-in-your-mouth good, the leeks were simple but stunning, and the millefeuille was light, flaky, and the perfect end to the meal. Service was gracious and attentive without being overbearing. The Romanian woman and British lad were both so kind and helpful. It’s clear that the staff take pride in what they do, and it shows in every detail. Highly recommend for anyone looking to enjoy classic French cuisine done right. Chez Marcel is a gem!

As someone who visits Paris every year, this is hands down my favorite local French bistro. The crowd? Mostly middle aged locals- kind of people who just know where the best food is, which pretty much guarantees it’s a winner. The owner is an absolute character, and his energy is so infectious you can’t help but leave in a good mood. And the food? No need for fancy descriptions. just perfectly executed, simple, and packed with flavor. Honestly, I hope this place never blows up with tourists. I want to keep it all to myself. Stay hidden, please! Maybe too late..

Recommended by a friend. Great food!

Google
Tasty food and at a reasonable price. I think we paid around €50 per head and that included wine for starters and mains. No dessert. Friendly service too. Wine was a tad overpriced and whilst the food was good, I remember thinking it could be seasoned a bit more, maybe.

This is the second time that I visited this restaurant. The food is amazing and the service was great.

First off, I feel it’s important to highlight that the restaurant felt authentically French and we were welcomed with limited French/primarily English as our spoken language which was so greatly appreciated. The food was absolutely incredible. The fish soufflé was outstanding, I will forever dream of the lamb, and the escargot made me consider ordering seconds and thirds… we were stuffed totally full and still wanted to order more, we were blown away with everything ordered for lunch. Everyone around us had food that also looked incredible. As we were leaving - already raving about lunch, we ran into who I assume was the owner who thanked us for coming and shook both our hands. We felt so welcomed, so well fed, and so thankful that we stopped in. We are already so excited to return when we come back to Paris. Thank you for having us!

Beautiful rustic atmosphere and friendly staff. Everything we ate was good. I would suggest a nicer plating for the steak. Prices are normal. With the greetings from the kitchen (in the form of salami), we did not receive bread. Nevertheless, a good experience.

Google
An absolutely outstanding dining experience!! There is a small, intimate interior with tons of decor all over the walls. We ordered escargot and artichokes for appetizers. Both were delicious, especially the escargot, which might be my new favorite food! Who knew snails could be so scrumptious? As unrefined Americans, we only had water at the table, and a random waiter came up to us and said, “No, no, no, we must get you some wine for your meal!” And he proceeded to ask us what we were having for dinner, what we were in the mood for, etc., to find the perfect wine for us. For the main course, we got a lamb fillet with scalloped potatoes. Both were excellent, especially the lamb which was cooked to perfection and tasted so, so good. For all of that too, the price was reasonable. This is a must try in Paris!!

Yelp
Speaking to a local at the next table, he was surprised that an American had found the place, which he described as quintessentially French. Everything was very good, including the braised (?) leeks with vinaigrette, and the country sausage entree, to the duck and pictured fish. Pierre was "gentil" (nice). Do not be in a hurry - this is slow food - cooked for you, and served in courses - not fast food. They had a nice cheese board selection, from which you could cut off whatever you like ( but we were too full to take advantage). No wine by the glass on the cartes de vin, but you could get it.

Yelp
OMG, so good! Got this recommendation from a friend who has traveled frequently to Paris and he was spot on. I had my hotel make a reservation a week in advance. Originally wanted to dine here Saturday night, but found it it is closed on Saturday and Sunday. So I made my reservation for Friday night. Chez Marcel is very close to the metro. We arrived a few minutes late, but no worry, table was waiting for us. Service was quick, professional and timely. I had confusion over the wine list and told our waiter what type of wine we liked. He suggested a particular wine and quickly we were drinking a great wine. My spouse asked me if if I asked the price before agreeing to the bottle, I said is the wine good, she agreed it was..the price turned out to be 50E, a good value IMO. We split two appetizers, snails and a special offered that night. Very good portions. I had the duck and my spouse had the daily fish special. The Duck was amazing, maybe the best I've ever had. We shared an amazing homemade dessert...the entire meal was a 10 out of 10. Place is small, but sound wasn't an issue. Bathroom is through the kitchen :-) We talked about coming back here for another Paris meal during our trip...so yes it was that good. Enjoy!

Yelp
I've been involved in, either financially or as a patron, multiple restaurants and have traveled the world prioritizing one-of-a-kind dining experiences and this was a Top 5 overall experience. From the staff, through the ambience and clientele - this restaurant has an energy and vibe that's difficult to create and even harder to do in night in and night out. Other reviews seem to confirm what I experienced, so I can only assume the consistency is there - but the authenticity of the staff and the "this is what I'd consider my perfect local restaurant" (if I were so lucky to live here) leaves no doubt that what I experienced is the real deal - no facade - an almost perfect dining experience! The food was exceptional - artichoke appetizer was incredible, a sharable monster with a perfect preparation. The Coq Au Vin was some of the best I've ever had. The friendly introduction of wine (rose) upon walking into the door as well as the consistency of the service and the casual "we're here to eat, drink and enjoy life together" service from the staff put the experience into the stratosphere. I hope this place never changes, I will seek it out every time I'm in Paris, and I only hope it doesn't become such a destination for visitors that it makes it tough for the locals to enjoy what is obviously a restaurant that should be coveted by any regular - of which I can only assume there are many.

Yelp
Well above the average French restaurant. Food was top notch in every respect. Service was personal, and all staff checked in on everyone regularly. The restaurant is very personal and eclectic, never cramped. I would return to this restaurant even if it were out of my way. As a side note: call weeks in advance for a reservation, this restaurant is small and very popular. Don't miss out on one of the best places to eat in the city! Note for non-French speakers: They speak fluent English and not knowing French will not be an issue.

Yelp
C'est magnifique! Wife and I dined at this Parisian jewel tonight, and will be back. Pierre and staff were welcoming and pleasant, patiently helping us interpret the menu. Small restaurant environment, but with a diverse menu. Started with artichokes in vinaigrette along with the pistachio sausage (with potatoes). All very good , but potatoes were a show stealer. Entrees of veal chop and filet au poivre. Wife said it was the best steak she's ever had. Meal accompanied by a delightful Cote D'or. Desserts of Mille feuille and a tart with pralines. Both were phenomenal. Had champagne (by the glass) and a wonderful 12-year-old Armagnac. Everything I could have asked for from a Parisian meal. Kudos to Pierre, and we will likely go back when we pass back through Paris. Bon appetit!!

Yelp
Incredible small local restaurant, where the food is homemade and will leave you wanting. If the owner likes you plan on witnessing him play his hand made wood flute around this small but cosy place. You Must Must Must make reservations, if you want to get in. Don't forget to top off your meal with the pink almond pie.

Yelp
Chez Marcel was recommendended by the concierge at Hotel Le Six. It was just across the street from the hotel and we did appreciate the convenience that was afforded by the location. We were greeted by the owner who was lively and out spoken. It was clear he loved his restaurant and he loved his job. The owners enthusiasm is contrasted by his staffs who seemed way less interested in providing grand service. There were some standard dinnee options alongside nightly special. Per the usual in France there is a house wine that I denied, which confused our waitress. The food really is just above average by hair. Not much to remember or to gush about in a yelp review. Finally, the look of the shop is that of a quaint mom and pop shop. It is small and cozy with older appearing decor. Overall a solid place to dine that wont let you down, with reasonable prices. However, not good enough to be memorable or to demand a revisit in our next time in Paris.

Yelp
Rude front staff, we didn't have a reservation and when we asked for a table - they practically told us to get out if didn't have a reservation. Parisians have moved on from the rudeness that they are known for - the old man at the front, probably the owner has not. Will not even bother coming back.

Yelp
Excellent. Friendly. Food is superb. You pay a pretty penny but it is worth it for the quality, taste and friendly local neighbourhood atmosphere.

Yelp
We went to this restaurant after a recommendation by friends. We had great food (escargot, chicken and pork chops were incredible) and met some nice people sitting next to us. We returned to the restaurant a few hours after dinner and had a couple more glasses of wine.

Yelp
Marcel himself is about 85 now and went in for dinner last week. He's not really a chef but more a lover of the cuisine and opened the restaurant in 1919. We were on our honeymoon from Colorado and just so happened to rent the flat (400euro) just across the street. Every night around 11 we would return and walk right by the little "Chez Marcel". And every night i peaked in the split of the red curtains inside the doors. Each table was full and everyone was talking and the waiters were laughing. It seemed rich with homeyness and story telling. We had to go so we saved it for the last night. The hours read for breakfast and dinner. I can't remember the breakfast times but dinner was m-f 2130-2300. I thought dinner started at 7 (2100). So I walked in and the staff of about 8 was sitting down for a family dinner before the night. It was warm and filled with nacks of history. Pierre the manager, a high energy but gentle man came up excited to see me. "We start at 730" he smiled as if there would be a party. "Will you be back? Do you wish to make reservations?" Yes 730 I replied. Boom he wrote it down and gave me a salut as he went back to dinner and they all smiled. We returned promptly at 730pm the place was alive and spry just as we had seen it every other night. Pierre subdued us with his bold humor and wit. Everyone was very attuned to every need and not in an annoying fashion. We started with the chef's choice bird and the deer with house red wine. You can get a glass, a pitcher or a bottle. The pitcher is a wine bottle with extra glass filling the bottom. Our meal was brought out in the brass pots fresh off the stove. Amazing wine sauces. And the wine cellar was through a secret door at the end of the bar table. Homemade bread was amazing, kind of a sourdough which went well with the sauce. Great experience, we will be back for an anniversary.

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences of my life! I was visiting here during the summer and we stumbled onto this place by chance. They only seat by reservation only but luckly they had a table available for us. The waitress was absolutely attentive to our evening and our meal. She recommended what we should get and to order our meat "pink". I ordered the enterocot with potatoes and vegetables. It was was cooked to perfection and honestly it was the beat peice of steak I have ever had. I never eat the fat on the steak but I loved it on this steak. It was so complementing to the meat. Every bite was really amazing sometimes I had to close my eyes and just enjoy the tastes and flavors. It was unbelievably good. For dessert we had the almond tart which was very sweet and different. Overall one of the best dining experiences of my life. If you are ever in paris you MUST hit this place up. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, classic traditional French menu. They also have daily specials to choose from. Seems like a place where the locals frequent. We had dinner last night (Wednesday) and ended up chatting with a couple of regulars. Quaint cozy place - make reservations or be prepared to wait.

Yelp
Very nice small Restaurant. Very good and tasty Menu and very nice, relaxed Team. No Tourist Spot. We had a great evening and we will come back for sure! Thank you! Greetings, Harald.

Yelp
This restaurant is so cozy and real feel of Paris. We sat outside. Amazing fresh food. Love Pierre! This restaurant is also almost 100 years old. In quiet neighbourhood.

Yelp
Our best dinner in Paris!!! If we had found it earlier we would have gone back multiple nights. Tiny place, fabulous people and glorious food.

Yelp
Our friends recommended that we eat here while in Paris and I am so happy we did! If you have to eat one meal in Paris, you must eat here. Everything we ordered was phenomenal. The ambience is awesome and everyone who works there is very passionate about food. Our waiter Vincent was especially helpful with what to order and also shared a shot with us. I definitely will be back here when I go back to Paris.

Yelp
We had such a delicious dinner here... pork carpaccio was amazing.. as was the veal chop and coq au vin. The owner is so charming and friendly. Favorite of the night was the Mille fuille! Will definitely go back and can't wait!

Yelp
Lovely, very tiny and intimate dining experience across the street from Hotel Six. Super-friendly staff, excellent wine list and fresh ingredients make this a winner. Reservations are a must.

Yelp
Our first evening in Paris, we were lucky enough to dine at Chez Marcel. The owner kindly made room for a table of two in its packed restaurant close to closing time. We had just rushed back from a night of shopping on Champs Élysées and climbing the Arc de Triomphe and were so lucky to get a table at this authentic French restaurant. We ordered a fish from the dinner specials menu, a light and flavorful mushroom salad, and the best coq au vin ever, all paired with a lovely white wine our server recommended. The bread & butter they served was also delicious!! If you get the chance, definitely come here for a meal, you won't regret it!

Yelp
We walked about 15-20 minutes to this restaurant from our Hotel and when we arrived we were a bit concerned. The neighborhood is residential and we were across from a Hotel. They wanted us to sit inside, but we asked for outside and were seated promptly. Table is small and was on an angle due to the sidewalk, but these are our only issues. The staff and place are small. In fact, if you need to use the restroom you walk right thru the kitchen to the back and outside of the restaurant. It was funny seeing the 2 chefs slaving away. The menu is in French, but our server translated every single item as best she could. She thought one of the fish dishes was cuttle fish, but it was really bass.......The tartare appetizer was sublime, one of the best we've had. My wife got the bass and I got the coq au vin. Presentations were fantastic, mine came in a copper pot and was served table side. Great purple color, soft and tender. We lingered another hour sipping coffee with dessert and talking with other patrons. Just a fantastic experience and well priced, in the 100 euro range.

Yelp
Amazing, amazing meal here. Fantastic food. I had the wild boar in red wine sauce and the leeks in vinaigrette appetizer. Fantastic friendly servers, and wonderful French locals' type atmosphere
google avatar

Jeff B.

Yelp
The food was good. Charming ambiance (we ate outside next to lots of potted plants, and right next to another couple (essentially sharing a table). The prices were decent, but they charged 10 euro to share an entree which was unexpected.

Ann D.

Yelp
I will miss this restaurant when we return back home. The food and company is worth the miles traveled and I'll remember it forever, in hopes to return soon! The food is traditional French cuisine that only leaves you wanting more. Don't pass this place up, I know I won't even be able to find something close to this in NYC!

Yelp
We came here while on our honeymoon. The owner/manager was incredibly friendly and we were treated very well by waitstaff (despite the fact that neither of us spoke much French). I would definitely recommend this place to anyone based on the hospitality alone. Good food too.

Yelp
We were very pleased with our dinner - the food, service and ambience was outstanding. They accommodated a vegetarian entrée and the French people that surrounded us made us feel welcome. It was an amazing experience all around!
google avatar

Camilo D.

Yelp
Fantastic service, food and energy at the place. The escargots are some of Paris' best and the sole meunière is perfect. Save room for the self-serve cheese plate post-dinner and expect a welcome and goodbye kiss from the manager.

Yelp
We ate at Chez Marcel last night with out Parisian friends. The evening was one of our highlights of our visit to Paris. The authentic food and cooking from the Lyon region of France was outstanding. The service and ambiance was great and a nice change from the tourist traps along the Champs Eleesey. Highly recommended.

George C.

Yelp
First trip to Paris, second night, couldn't have asked for a better restaurant, better meal, better experience. We walked in and immediately recognized that this was not a "tourist French restaurant". Menu was in French, everyone spoke much more French than English and the patrons were locals and known regulars. We sat, he sat and translated and explained and suggested and we listened and ordered. He applauded ordering carafe of house wine, refused us when we ordered too much and gave us a path to a memorable dinner. Bread kept appearing, food was quick, hot and delightful and when he sat for the people at the next table, he prompted me to comment when they asked him about the dish I was eating. Same thing for dessert. A handshake and a kiss when we left and best hopes we would enjoy the rest of our stay in Paris. With treatment like this how could we not!

P S.

Yelp
We came here on our first night in Paris, and it was a perfect start to our trip! A great french bistro experience. The service is warm and welcoming, and the food is delicious. The house wine was delicious and cheap. We sat outside and took our time and really enjoyed our evening here. Highly recommend!

Alan L.

Yelp
Fabulous! Charming little place with traditional menu prepared to perfection. Service spot on ..cant wait to return. Perfect wine to go with meal.
