The Best Wine Bars In Seattle

"Chez Phinney follows a simple format: hand over your credit card, receive an empty glass, and use the self-pour machines to fill said glass. And with its Greenwood Ave. location, housemade chocolate truffles, and dips from Michou Deli, this spot is easily the best place to drink wine on the north end. Despite looking like a Paris-inspired airport cafe, things turn up at night, thanks to blasting EDM and a “whatever” attitude about closing time. Oh yeah, that plus the ability to get wine every time you press a button like a mouse in a research lab. The best part is that Chez Phinney really is for every kind of grape juice drinker—you’ll find stunning German sauvignon blanc, funkadelic natural blends, and alcohol-free bubbles under the same roof." - aimee rizzo, gabe guarente

First time here. Love the self-serve wine concept. The staff was awesome, very friendly and helpful.

It's a lovely setting to enjoy a well curated selection of wines. The culinary offerings are just snacks, but a nice accompaniment to the wine. Definitely a cute French bistro vibe right down to chairs.

Just found this new Wine Bar and I have to tell you it’s great! Owners Andrew and Julie are awesome and did a great job creating an inviting, cool ambiance. We had a Charcuterie Board and the Spanish nut mix and both were awesome! Great selection of wine which you get to pour yourself with a nifty card! Super fun and relaxing place to hang out. Definitely one of my new favorite spots!

Wonderful little spot. They got some candles going, that are really just unfair, they smell so good!! The pour your own wine is one of the more unique setups I’ve seen and it’s incredible, empowering even!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This is my happy place! Everyone is so kind and welcoming. Amazing selections of wine and bubbles. Love the charcuterie boards and food. The candles up front smell so wonderful! Bringing my family to visit soon :) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

They opened in October of 2021 and I wish I found them sooner! Close to home and a great quaint little spot for a night out. You walk in hand over a credit card and they give you a swipe card to put into the machine and you taste the wine at your own leisure. 1, 3 or 5 ounce pours. The prices are petty reasonable. Jolene helped us out with our wine selections and was very knowledgeable and friendly! They have wines from all over and I was inquiring about buying bottles and they don't sell the bottles and they have unique wines you won't be able to find anywhere else. They buy limited bottles. The selection gets changed up a lot they said. I like that a lot cause I love trying new wines! We met the owner Julie and she was so great to talk to. Very personable and we asked about renting the bar out for a private party. She said it was doable during the week. I'm excited to get a private party started for our next birthday event. They also have small bites and charcuterie. It looks very delicious so the next time I'm in I'll have to get it. Andrew the other owner was also there in the back bar making up the food. If there's no seating in the front area you can also sit in the back bar. They had the garage door open for a nice outdoor area. I had to try their aperol spritz cause it's my go to. It didn't disappoint! Grab your friends and family and head out for a night of wine drinking. You won't regret it!

At the end of a three week Northwest vacation, my friend’s niece and Sister-in-law suggested we do a girl’s night at this great place where you get to taste different wines and fill your own glass. We loved the idea. My friend’s niece, who lives within walking distance, beat us there and snagged a table for us. Good thing, too, because this place was hopping. We went up to exchange our credit cards for our “wine card”, get our glasses and then head to the two cases each holding about 8 different wines. We could opt for a small taste, a 3 ounce pour, or a 5 ounce pour. Just insert your wine card and select the appropriate button. I tried an “orange blend” and though I enjoyed it, I wanted to check out others before deciding on a glass. And that’s when I discovered Kerloo, 2019 Majestic - a GMS blend. It was exactly what I wanted. I returned to the table and we all compared notes. Then we decided on a large charcuterie board with a wonderful array of cheeses, fruit, meats, crackers and even pickles. Just what we needed to allow us to enjoy a second glass of wine. We had so much fun. The owners and chef were warm and welcoming. It has a wonderful vibe and to top it all off - great wine!

Google
I must say that this venue is an excellent choice for hanging out or enjoying a wine tasting event, and their cheese offerings are truly outstanding. I couldn't help but recall a few standout (edit- cheese) selections from Trader Joe's. While the concept of a dispenser for pouring wines is innovative and commendable, despite their rotating wine collection, I didn't find it particularly impressive.

Yelp
Very cute self serve wine bar with the cards and dispensers! Not as broad of a selection as Rapport, but the reds we tried were very unique and unlike others we've had. The girls who were working were so sweet. Smaller space so try to arrive earlier.

Yelp
Stopped in here while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant and the place was packed! They luckily had some bar seating and we were able to get in. The space is super cute, very cozy, and has a good selection of wines. I love the way they set up their tap wine system and it's great to be able to see the bottle, as well as review the descriptions. Each pour is based on the oz served and you can choose that yourself with prices ranging from $2.30 to $12 a pour. They have some snack options, which were great paired with the wine, but isn't a place to come for a meal if that is what you're looking for. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Cute corner wine bar with friendly, attentive and helpful service. Before coming here, didn't realize it was a self service wine bar, but that allows you to try a wider variety of wines! I had kind of expected a few more wines from France (given the name), but there were a variety from Washington, Oregon, California and I think a few from Spain. That said, each wine we tasted we enjoyed, and ordered the spinach dip with toastettes as a snack. Will definitely be back to see if they rotate their selection and to try more snacks!

Yelp
A novel idea of doing wine tasting without having to make the trip over to a winery. Chez Phinney is right on a fairly happenin' strip so it could be incorporated well into a night out. Walking in we were greeted by the hostess who was welcoming and quickly reviewed how the tasting works. You receive a card that you slide into the Wine displays. The display will light up and you select the wine and the pour size you want. a sample pour will be $2-3, and medium pour will be $5-8 and the full pour will be about $10-14. It varies of course between the wines, aging, locale etc. When all done you turn in the card, and it tallies your purchase. Tried some of the Michou Artichoke and Jalapeno dip with bruschettini crackers. A nice snack to compliment the wine. It's very easy to use the wine displays and is a pretty novel idea. I'm not sure if this is new or has been around but I think it's neat. There are tables to sit at and a couch on the lower level if you want to lounge a bit. Then there is a standing area if you and your group want to stand up while sipping. There is a nice selection to choose from so if you're looking for some wine options with an intimate atmosphere, check out Chez.

Yelp
Such a cute wine bar. Was visiting from out of town with my friends and it's such a unique experience staff are very knowledgeable on wines and the card system is pretty fun. The vibes are good we were even cheering along with other tables very Parisian.

Yelp
We stumbled into randomly One night as they were they only wine bar still open' love the pour your own wine concept! I am a try before I commit to an entire glass kinda girl so this was great! The lady working that night was chatty and nice to get to know. Cute inside. If we lived closer this would def be a place we came back regularly.

Yelp
What a cute spot! This quaint and homey hole in the wall is the perfect place to go on a date or with a small group of friends. They have various wines on a tap system, but don't let that fool you into thinking they're crappy options. This is the upscale version of other wine taprooms I've been to. The tap system allows you to try multiple wines at a reasonable price, because you can pour yourself 1oz, 3oz, or 5oz at a time. They also have a small food menu with things like charcuterie and chocolate truffles.

Yelp
This wine bar is so cute and cozy, I love the self pour system and all the selections! The charcuterie board had delicious, unique cheeses and I loved the crackers. The perfect date night or catching up with friends spot. Phinney Ridge is a great neighborhood

Yelp
Saturday (12/4/21) was a long day with lots of driving here, there, and everywhere. I wanted a late afternoon spot to just unwind, Chez Phinney was a perfect choice. I had been casing out Chez Phinney for awhile ever since former business, Bluebird, relocated diagonally across the street. Once I entered, wow what a transformation from the former familiar layout of Bluebird to its current iteration. My only exposure to such a wine bar concept was Rapport over on Capitol Hill, but choices there were vast and overwhelming. This was a scaled down version to sample and savor wines, with a handful of beers and ciders also to select from. I was introduced to the set up by a welcoming owner. I handed over a debit/credit card for safekeeping in exchanged for a numbered card used on the dispensing area. Pour volumes available are 1 ounce, 3 ounces, and 5 ounces. When ready to close out one's ticket, complete the transaction at the host stand area. I mentioned that I had interest in merlots, so she kindly pointed out a few to select from. I sat at a two top by the entrance on the main floor. The other floor had additional seating and the open food prep kitchen area. I was provided a wine glass, water/glass, and I ordered a cheese plate with grapes and crostinis. The cheese plate was to take the edge off. I liked the three cheeses selected, but the grapes provided were a bit overripe. Maybe in the future they will consider nuts, dried fruits, salumi as a full charcuterie feature. Whatever, I nibbled through everything during my two hours there. By the way, I also enjoyed the music played. Eclectic from Gipsy Kings to Tame Impala to Andy Gibb. I ended up having three 1 ounce sample pours: two were merlot/cabernet sauvignons from France and for the third, I chose a Malbec from Walla Walla. I was amazed at its assertiveness and definitely made a note to self to order a Malbec next time I have a steak dinner. I look forward to visiting again to continue my wine education. Chez Phinney is a great spot for date night, meet up with friends, or solo oenophiles like me. Terrific addition to the vast retail stretch of Greenwood/Phinney Ridge neighborhoods.

Yelp
Great concept and a fun date spot offering good wines from the region and afar along with small bites . Well worth a visit

Yelp
Fun wine bar in the cutest neighborhood. I appreciate that the wines are the same price per oz for the different pour sizes, so you're encouraged to try more types.

Yelp
This place is SO FUN! I can't believe more places like this don't exist. The owners are so nice and kind and give you a demo of how it all works. I could come here every week! I'm not from Seattle but I will be missing this place when I leave. Hopefully the idea expands. The wine is good, and I don't even know anything about wine, so this place caters to all. The setting is so nice outside and inside, it has a great set up and lovely little snacks to accompany you through the night. A great place to enjoy with your best friends and great wine. Thank you!!

Yelp
New favorite wine bar that is undoubtedly about to become everyone's favorite wine bar. Packed to the gills on Friday evening, but our group came early enough to snag a table. Good thing since ours was a bit larger group and most tables in this small space are two-tops. Chez Phinney manages to feel cozy and not claustrophobic despite its small footprint. Love the concept of self-serve from their wine "vending machine" where you can choose between 1-, 3-, and 5-ounce pours of any of their 24 rotating bottles. Whites, roses, oranges, reds... with write-ups for each which include tasting profile and other information such as whether the winery is woman-owned or has organic/biodynamic farming practices. Cheese plate and small snacks available, or BYO from neighboring restaurants. They also have a small downstairs bar area with a few beers and ciders. Cannot wait to come back!

Yelp
Great wines, great fun. We had a blast trying small sips to learn more about each kind and big pours when it was time to get serious.

Yelp
My brother and I unknowingly stumbled into here and it was like we found Narnia! After he helped me move, we walked over here thinking we were grabbing pie, but instead, we found ourselves at a new place with a cute ambience, friendly service, and fun vibe. The self-serve wine was really cool! We ordered the large charcuterie board and onion dip. Apparently my brother never had charcuterie before and he really enjoys it now. They also had good music playing in the background, but it wasn't too loud such that my brother and I were still able to have good conversation. I can't wait to take some of my friends here. I know they'll love it here too! #phinneyfinds

Yelp
The place was lovely. They gave us our space to enjoy each others company but that meant we didn't get a chance to order the food we wanted in a timely manner. Guests should be aware that they serve themselves their own wine. And the wine prices add up to higher than you'd typically see for glass pours. At the end of the experience I was very surprised they asked for a 20% gratuity given they do a fraction of the work of other servers in the industry.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
This is a super cute little self-serve wine bar. The staff during our visit was very welcoming and helpful. They had a great selection of wines on tap, and I love being able to choose the size of the pour in increments as small as an ounce. I don't drink a ton but love to taste lots of different things, and their setup is perfect for that! The only things I thought could use some improvement were the bar snacks -- the marcona almonds were cold and a bit stale and the "crostini" with tapenade clearly came straight from a bag/tub. It doesn't look like they have much of a kitchen setup for real food, though. You can bring in takeout from the neighborhood, so it's not really a problem. We were there when they opened at 5 on a Friday, and it was completely packed by 5:45. The space is pretty tight, and I'm still not used to being so close to strangers again, so just a note if that's of concern. Overall though, we really enjoyed our visit and will be back!

Yelp
If you love wine, or are even just trying to learn more about varietals, Chez Phinney is a cozy place that never disappoints. There's always a great range of wines on tap, sure to please any tastes!

Yelp
A very special wine bar just opened on Phinney Ridge. The owners are local to the neighborhood and are extremely hospitable. A friend and I enjoyed the sunshine and wine at this place last night as trick or treaters walked by, and didn't feel like we were in Seattle. It felt like we had been teleported to a European country. You can tell there was a lot of thought that went into the design of this cozy little place. Definitely a must try with an amazing wine selection. Chose between a 1oz, 3oz, or 5oz pour. If wine isn't your thing, they have 4 rotating taps with beer and cider.

Yelp
Cute little place to try out some new wines! My wine and I had a great experience our first time here. We tried 4-5 different wines and ordered a charcuterie board for a snack.

Yelp
Chez Phinney delights from the very first moment. The decor and vibe are charming only to be further enhanced by the owner, Julie who greeted us as if she were welcoming us into her home. She gave us a tour of how the self-service wine bar operates and then set us free to select our wines of choice. We added to our already wonderful experience by ordering a few items from the menu. A delicious assortment of cheese complete with crackers and grapes ~ as well as the Michou caramelized onion dip with Kettle chips. We will be back! Michelle S.

Yelp
Been meaning to check this place out for awhile and finally needed to get out and stretch my legs and find a cute place with wine/rosé so I can do some reading and so happy I checked out this place! Love the concept and the space is adorable and the owner Julie was super sweet! I will definitely be coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
This corner wine bar is AMAZING. You could probably try every wine and still not spend over $50. The machines allow you to pick the size you want, and they great thing about this one is they rotate the wines regularly so you never get the same thing. They also have a few small food items, charcuterie boards included.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Had a lovely night out here last night. Great wines and a tasty cheese plate in a cozy setting. The owner was so lovely, even after I spilled my wine. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Alex G.

Yelp
This tiny wine bar is super fun as it allows you to pour your own wine in a variety of pour sizes. There were at least 10-12 wines "on tap" and the staff was super friendly. We didn't have any snacks, but loved that the lower area near the kitchen felt like you were at someone's house. Super cozy, and cute, but it was a little pricey!
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
Really cute spot and a great curated wine selection of Old World and Washington wines. The layout is a bit challenging, as the register / check in are in the same space as the wine dispensors and the entrance so there is a bit of a strange bottleneck and flow. Wines were lovely and the staff were very pleasant. It is pretty small, but quaint. Wines were lovely and they have a few small snacks in case you get hungry for a nibble.

Marie B.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Such a fun concept and the owner is amazing. So personable and obviously is super passionate about their business. It was such a good, homey vibe, exactly what you want in your little local neighborhood bar.

Kt S.

Yelp
This place is so lovely--they've really turned the space into such a cute and cozy place. There is a nice lounge area in the back, too. The owners are a pure delight and their wine knowledge is very evident in their fine selections. I loved that you can pick the size of the glass so you can try several of their many selections. We got the large charcuterie board and chips and dip and it was a perfect pairing (and great value!). Thank you Chez Phinney! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
What an absolutely lovely neighborhood gem!! Stumbled upon this place after noticing their cute neon sign, and I'm so glad I did! They've got a delicious selection of wine, yummy snacks, and the friendliest staff.

Spat S.

Yelp
Love this place! It is lovely and cozy and the fact that you can just get up and pour your own wine = yes! Julie and her family are wonderful and welcoming. The wine selection is great. So glad this place opened in Phinney and can't wait to go back.

Yelp
My wife and I are extremely pleased that We finally have a local self serve wine bar in our neighborhood! This first experience I had with concept was in Las Vegas over 10 years ago. It hadn't made it up to Seattle til now due to the technology behind it being prohibitively expensive for small business owners. Our gracious hosts took the plunge and have set up a great venue! I selfishly don't want to write this review for fear of this becoming a packed house very soon and not being able to find a seat! They have done a very nice job with the wines they select each week and the accompanying tasting notes for each of them. The nitrogen dispensing machine keeps the wines fresh and at the right temperature for every mouth watering 1 oz, 3oz or 6 oz pour. The credit card tracking system records your wine purchases as you go and is simple to use. The owner-curated playlist from his private music collection also keeps the vibe chill and the atmosphere engaging while still being able to converse with your date or even engage with other customers and meet new friends. I love this bar and recommend a gigantic two thumbs up!

Tony M.

Yelp
So amazing! Knowledgeable and attentive staff. Thoroughly recommend!!! Though they claim they aren't somalíes, they should be in my book. So helpful
