Chi Chi's Chicken and Beer is an eclectic Freret Street haunt where crispy Korean wings meet fried chicken sandwiches amidst a lively, cartoonish vibe.
"After cooking in Panama City, Paris, and New York, Adolfo Garcia III has returned to his native New Orleans and opened Chi Chi’s Chicken and Beer, an impossibly cool Freret Street shop serving a chaotic mashup of Korean fried chicken and Japanese sushi sandos. The menu focuses on four main categories: Korean chicken wings, fried chicken sandwiches, onigirazu (sushi sandwiches), and kakigōri (Japanese shaved ice), served alongside simple sides, three-liter towers of beer, and soju in a bustling, compact space adorned with a playful cartoon aesthetic." - Clair Lorell
"Chi Chi’s Chicken and Beer is Freret Street’s coolest new hangout, a playful hub for Korean chicken wings, fried chicken sandwiches, onigirazu (sushi sandwiches), and kakigōri (Japanese shaved ice). For the wings, Garcia marinates the chicken for 24 hours in a blend of Korean rice wine, peanut oil, soy sauce, and a spice blend. They get an initial dredge of rice flour and all-purpose flour and a first fry, followed by a velveting technique with an ice-cold batter, then a second fry. The wings get sauced with soy garlic or gochujang (or customers can order a mix), and come with a side of tangy pickled daikon, as is tradition." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell
"Opened by Chef Adolfo “Fito” Garcia III and partner Sophia Petrou, this Freret Street spot features spicy Korean double fried chicken, marinated chicken wings, fried chicken sandwiches, onigirazu, and kakigōri. Offers a playful cartoon aesthetic." - Beth D'Addono
