"The former Zed451 building in River North is now home to Chicago Winery, a cavernous downtown space that houses a working winery, rooftop event space, and contemporary Midwestern restaurant Liva from executive chef Andrew Graves (Alinea, Next Restaurant). That means that patrons can sip chardonnay or zinfandel made on-site while trying smoked fish dip with giardiniera or New York strip with smashed fingerling potatoes. Tastings and tours are also available. Make a reservation through OpenTable." - Ashok Selvam

I photographed a wedding at Chicago Winery and it was a stunning venue! The staff helped make the event flow seamlessly. The food was exceptional and all of the spaces including ceremony and cocktail hour area were stunning. The venue is located close to many popular photo spots, which makes it an ideal location to help save time going from one location to another on your wedding day. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking to get married in downtown Chicago.

From the moment we walked into Chicago Winery, we just knew it was the place where we wanted to get married. There's something so warm and inviting about the space, and Lindsey made us feel incredibly special from the very first meeting. She took the time to sit with us, explain what makes Chicago Winery unique, and truly made us feel like family. Lindsey is an amazing person who not only answered ALL of our questions, but she was always a friendly face who always stopped to say hi throughout our planning visits and tasting. She is an amazing person who genuinely was happy for us to get married and experience the beauty and elegance of Chicago Winery. Our event manager, Hulda, was nothing short of amazing. So accommodating to our requests, organized, and supportive throughout the entire process. Hulda's experience in the wedding industry and as an event manager was evident in every detail, and we felt so fortunate to have her by our side. Hulda took the time to get to know us as a couple which was even more special on our wedding day. It felt like having a close friend there, celebrating and sharing in our happiness. On the wedding day, the staff went above and beyond to make us feel celebrated and cared for. The food was absolutely incredible, and Hulda made sure my husband and I were able to try all of it, including our appetizers and dessert! The drinks were flowing all night and our signature cocktails were a huge hit with our guests. The fireplaces added such a cozy touch, making it the perfect setting for our winter wedding. We couldn't have asked for a better venue or a more wonderful team to bring our vision to life. If you're looking for a venue that combines elegance, warmth, delicious food and top-tier service, we highly recommend Chicago Winery! Chicago Winery will always be our special place. We're so grateful that we can come back for dinner and relive all the magic of our wedding day whenever we want!

Google
We toured this venue last, and the best was definitely saved for last! The venue is so, so beautiful, and all of our guests said the food is some of the best they’ve ever had at a wedding. Chicago Winery took such great care of us the day of! We were full, always had drinks in our hand, and created so many fun memories!

Google
The most amazing wedding venue in Chicago! I can't say enough incredible things about Chicago Winery - from the ambiance, the staff, the inclusive packaging options, and the food/beverage - it is the perfect urban venue in the city. My husband and I knew the second we toured the space that we wanted to book ASAP and will forever be grateful that we did. Our event manager, Hulda, was STELLAR - so responsive and communicative, so friendly, and just all around a rockstar with logistics and planning. She made the experience seamless and we are so glad we got to work with her and her team. Our sales contact, Lindsay, was incredible as well and really helped to explain to us up front what our day could look like, how the packages work, and what would be feasible with our budget/guest count. If you're looking for an incredible experience all around for your wedding, definitely check out Chicago Winery!

Google
Chicago Winery was the best decision we made for our wedding, hands down. Their inclusive package is one thing but they incredible food and beverage is on another level. We had guests telling us all night, and still, that their experience at our wedding was top notch. Chris, our Event Manager, was always able to answer our questions, tell us when something might not be realistic and able to adjust in a snap. He personally set our ridiculously large dessert table and went above and beyond for us. We are ever so grateful to Amy, Chris and the entire staff at Chicago Winery. You made our wedding the best it could be. P.S. - the fish dip is banging

Google
I went with my family for the prix fixe Mother’s Day brunch and it was perfect from start to finish! Amazing service, delicious food, and a great atmosphere. I think this will become an annual tradition.

Robyn Meister

Google
The team at Chicago Winery was a dream to work with from start to finish. They were incredibly responsive, providing detailed information and guidance throughout the planning process. It was clear they were truly invested in making our wedding day perfect. The venue itself is absolutely beautiful - unique, modern, and incredibly romantic. On the day of, the staff went above and beyond to support us, anticipating our every need and ensuring everything ran seamlessly. We couldn't have asked for a better wedding experience, and we're so grateful to the Chicago Winery team for helping to make our special day truly unforgettable. They even checked in after the wedding with us to ensure we had the experience we wanted. I would definitely recommend having your event here. Any review stating the contrary should be flat out ignored, they could not be more wrong.

Google
Came here for a wine tasting with my best friend and let me start off with saying, you need to go too! For the friendliness of the staff, the beautiful structure and art throughout, and the great quality food and drinks, everything was so cute and top tier! We tried the seasonal wine flight ($22/person) since it was recommended and we order some food to share: yogurt parfait, potato croquettes, and salmon tartine! Everything was delicious! They also host wedding things here so if you’re looking for a venue for that, check them out! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Chicago Winery is hands down one of my favorite places. Do I mostly go for the wine? Yes. Do I not like cheese? yea. Did I like the burrata cheese? Surprisingly yes! Our server recommended the wine flight and the side dish to go with it - her recommendations were top tier. We had such a good time! Chicago winery is an experience not only because of the drinks but the service is always great!! Especially in the wine tasting room, the servers always take their time to explain the wines on the list and talk about their favorites too! I've been there so many times and each time it never fails. If you're looking for a girls night spot or romantic (affordable) date night venue, this is the place for you!

Yelp
Truly an amazing space. Staff was super friendly, service was spot on and the food was great. I'd highly recommend Chicago Winery, especially for an event. They have a great patio area that has drop down windows and heaters so it's warm, even on a chilly night. The decor is modern/classic, mixing good from the old with the new.

Yelp
Cozy, warm, trendy and upscale. I have met and was also honored to have been given a tour of the whole lace and layout. I have been walked through wine pairings and seasonal dishes and all with an interesting integrity touch do not see very often. Every chef I have learned is different and has their own flare to what I love to order---- the Charcuterie Board. It's always a little different and unique, but also made to order. I had one of THE BEST GALZ EVER, actually DRAW me and my friend a map of the whole board and what the Chef had put out for us to Enjoy. I mean this was COMPLETELY mind blowing and WAAAY over the top to do. Her name was Layah. Thank you Chicago Whinery- you have a lot of hidden talent.

Yelp
I've been to Chicago Winery several times now, and I've always been pleasantly impressed! The bar is one of the most chic bars in the city, and the cocktails and wine selection are amazing. The bar tenders are very skilled and so friendly! If you are dining in, you MUST order The Chef's Whim. Each board is different, and filled with amazing meats, cheeses, fruits, and vegetables. I've also tried the skirt steak, which was very tender and cooked to perfection! Whether grabbing a drink, dining out, or planning an event, Chicago Winery is a great place to consider!

Yelp
We stumbled in on this beautiful Sunday to check out the rooftop. The staff was so nice and gave us a tour of the space as well. The spritz was beautiful and refreshing - even came with a rose shaped ice cube! We also did a wine tasting, which was so fun and delicious. This was such a great deal to try a couple of the house made wines, and they were all so great. Will definitely be back to try out the restaurant some time!

Yelp
Stopped in after work. Service wasn't great (or friendly). It's a cool spot if your in the area but not worth going out of your way for.

Yelp
great happy hour and appetizers! can't speak too much to the food because we only got the cheese balls m but their wine is amazing. and just gorgeous bar and beautiful decor very nice vibes and overall a fun spot

Yelp
My boyfriend and I stumbled in here one night and we had a blast. They have an amazing selection fo wines that are bottled by them. The people that work there are AMAZING and ensure that you are enjoying your dinning experience there. I was shocked by how good the food was here. I think that this place over all is underrated and more people need to check this spot out.

Yelp
$20 for a 5 wine tasting menu. They do not take reservations, so would recommend getting there before 7. There is sitting room along with a long bar where you can stand. They have two options - seasonal and the winemaker's flight. You can also write down which of the wines you want to try. Wines are made in house and were overall pretty good. Favorites were the 2018 Cab and the 2019 Pinot noir. Wouldn't necessarily purchase a bottle by itself, but this is a great place to come try!

Yelp
I have not been back to this space since it was Zed451. This spot acutely holds some additional meaning for me as I had my rehearsal dinner here when it was Zed451. So, I was wondering how the space would be different. I went on a late Sunday afternoon in July with my wife, for their Summer Sunday series. This is where they open up their rooftop for wine, cocktails and limited food. I was surprised to find that rooftop was covered by a large pergola with skylights. While I would have liked a view of the surrounding buildings, I enjoyed the shade as it was a hot summer day. This made made for a great atmosphere where I felt I could easily relax (the wine helped too). While I was there was a dj was playing music. First, and foremost, I enjoyed the wine. You need to know they only carry their brand of wine. I've seen a review where a person commented they were upset that they did not have sweet wine. From what I was told by the staff, Chicago Winery does not produce sweet wines, and hence does not serve them. If like that trash like that, perhaps this is not your place. My wife ordered a sauvignon blanc, and I ordered a pinot noir. Both of the wines were excellent. Second, I loved the food. While their menu for rooftop is limited, all of it is made by their sister restaurant on the first floor, Liva. We ordered the charcuterie board, pretzel bites and croquettes. While the dishes sound simple they were all delicious and sophisticated. I particularly liked the pretzel bites. Third, the service and knowledge of the staff was excellent. Any time we had I question about any of their offerings, including the wine, the staff has a quick answer. I also enjoyed exploring the rest of the building. Their first floor has a wine tasting room, full bar and the sister restaurant, Liva. While the decor on the rooftop is simple, the rest of the building is elegant and sophisticated. This is a welcome replacement to Zed451, a must visit in River North and wine and food destination.

Yelp
Best winery in Chicago, albeit not many overall. Majority of grapes harvested out of Suisun Valley southeast of NAPA with others such as reisling from finger lakes and zin from lodi. Tasted 10 different wines. Very enjoyable experience. Sat in tasting room where had service to pour wines at the table. The lady pouring our wines had an abundance of knowledge of wine in general and was able to educate on their specific wines well. Normally am much more of a red wine guy but their whites got my attention. Specifically their pinot gris that appears as a rose but not technically a rose. My favorite wine was between the sangiovese and pinot noir. Least favorite was petite sirah as was a bit too savory. The ambiance was nice. Large place overall, split between three sections-tasting room, restaurant then bar. In back of building the wine making can be visualized. Food in tasting room limited to snacks. Cheese plate and sweet potato chips with smoked yogurt were awesome accompaniments to the wine tasting. Highly recommend if fan of wine. Much better than cooper's hawk and edges city winery as well.

Yelp
My friends and I had brunch reservations at Chicago Winery yesterday. The menu was limited. We decided on the French Toast, chicken sausage, mimosas, and a glass of Albariño wine. You can't go to a winery and not try the wine. We loved everything served to us. The French toast was better than expected, chicken sausage was good. The mimosas was decent. I had a mimosa here before and it was much better. The Bloody Mary would be a very hard NO. It was the worst I've ever had. I had to send it back. Carlos the waiter made our experience worth it. Also, brunch was a bit on the high side. Overall, I'd go back. Mainly to try the wines.

Yelp
Very pleasant wine tasting experience! They don't take reservations but we were able to snag a four top at 6 pm on a Saturday. The staff is incredibly friendly and insightful here -- we learned a lot about wine. You're able to choose between two pre-set wine tasting menus or you can create your own. Only main rule is all people at the table have to pick the same wine flight. We designed our own wine flight (five hefty pours) and enjoyed them all. The cheese board was a delight, too, although definitely on the pricier side. I would definitely return.

Yelp
I booked a tour and tasting here right after the Christmas holiday. Two hours before, I received a call saying the tour guide had become sick but that we were welcome to come in for the tasting. It was disappointing that there was no one else available to cover, but we understood as things happen. We show up to the tasting and one of the waitresses did not even know the names of the wine she was pouring, let alone any information about the wine. Disappointing. They were evidently understaffed and not prepared. Finally, the other waitress (who we loved) brought the check. She was clearly uncomfortable as she said that we needed to pay AGAIN for the tasting because we would receive a refund in the next 1-2 days for the tasting + tour package. I thought this was questionable, but it was clearly not the waitress' fault so I paid again. Two days go by, no refund. I call on Dec 30, they say that it's a busy time with the holiday and I'll receive a call with an explanation the following week. No call, no voicemail, no refund. I call again, same story. This place is a suspicious operation. You are better off not spending your money here. If you do try it, I would be weary of any promises of "refunds".

Yelp
We had a bachelorette brunch for my daughter while we were in Chicago for her wedding. The staff and the general manager were amazing. They went above and beyond to help us make the morning absolutely lovely. The food and wine pairings were well prepared and very nicely presented. We had a private room which they helped us decorate and it was such a great morning. Our servers were excellent and our bartender was so cute, he was a good sport when the lingerie started coming out . I would highly recommend it for any type of group event. They take very good care of you there.

Madhulika C.

Yelp
Recently organized and hosted a surprise birthday dinner. Reached out to the staff and restaurant manager Crystal weeks in advance and it was the worst dining experience in terms of communication, food aswell and service. Would NOT recommend if you want a good experience. Pick any other of the millions of stellar venues in our wonderful city full of awesome dining experiences and amazing and attentive service.

Yelp
We did not enjoy our time at Chicago Winery. The wine was not good, the selection was minimal, and the staff was rude/dismissive. When I asked for a sweet wine, I was told there was none. When I asked what sweet cocktails they had, I was told "I only know wine- I have no idea" by our waitress. She didn't even offer to get someone who knew more about the cocktails, or at least to ASK the bartender ?? When we were drinking wine, we felt like the staff was talking about us. They were gossipy, looking in customers' directions, and at one point, even talked about "annoyances when people ask about sweet wines." Overall VERY disappointed, as this is a great location/Chicago could use a great winery!

Timothy P.

Yelp
I arrived at Chicago Winery last week Friday night with my friend; my server Alex took ages to take our order, so we ended up ordering at the counter. The bartender was extremely nice and helpful; I think his name began with a D. The meal wasn't as anticipated, but the wine was truly excellent.
google avatar

Terika S.

Yelp
Wow! Absolutely adored this place! My friends and I came in from out of time and we had a TIME! Delicious wine flights! Our server Patrick was great and so full of life! Will def recommend to anyone who visits Chicago!

S G.

Yelp
Had my birthday dinner with a medium sized party First the food was all excellent but the service The problem was the service - it took 40 min after ordering to get drinks. We ordered their charcuterie boards that never came - when we asked what was going on the manager literally told us they had a private party and the staff was focused on that . I'm not begrudging the wedding reception going on above in the private room but why open the dining room if you know the Staff isn't available? The food came out in bizarre courses randomly given so we has no idea if we got what we ordered It made me annoyed for my friends I won't recommend it for dinner but maybe for a private event ‍
google avatar

Eric D.

Yelp
Outstanding service and ambiance. Tried every red and all were exceptional. Highly recommended for someone looking for a relaxed atmosphere and good wine.
google avatar

Jena B.

Yelp
Our server Deena was great. Asked her about wine and she guided us in the perfect direction. We ordered the gnocchi from our servers suggestion and loved it so much we decided on a second helping of it. All in all a great meal.
google avatar

Athena B.

Yelp
Tasting room is closed on Mondays, but they have half off bottles! Shoutout Brandon for taking care of us!
google avatar

Matthew B.

Yelp
Really great place. It's elevated but still casual, so the vibes work for any day or mood. The food is really good with some classics and some cheffy takes. Obviously the wine is plentiful with something for casual wine drinkers all the way to dedicated oenophiles. The service is friendly and knowledgeable

Zoë H.

Yelp
I came here as part of my bachelorette weekend and it was amazing! We did the Chef's Call Brunch. Our server, Amir, was fantastic, conscious of our groups allergies and made it such a fun experience. The food was delicious! We followed that up with a wine tasting and Patrick, who lead the group, was so knowledgable and personable. We got to have a lot of great wine and actually learned a lot. Overall, it was one of the highlights of the weekend!
google avatar

Hailey D.

Yelp
Love this place! Went for a happy hour and got a speciality cocktail, it was a blue mai tai and it was so good! Strong but not over bearing. The inside of this place is so pretty and the bartender was so nice and friendly. I will 100% be coming back
google avatar

Erin M.

Yelp
We didn't try the restaurant so I have no idea about that, but we did a tasting + tour when they first began doing them. We were on only their 4th tour and for being so new at it I thought it was such a good experience! Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and fun. This place is beautiful and the ambiance is so nice. I liked a couple of the wines we tasted and I'm happy I had the experience although I'm not sure if I would come for dinner.
google avatar

NaywriChi W.

Yelp
Ahh! This used to be Zed 451 remember that? This is the fourth location in the U.S. and the first one in the state and this is by First Batch Hospitality. Liva is the restaurant. Had one of their cocktails. Staff and service is excellent.

Kat W.

Yelp
Booked this place 2 months in advance for a bachelorette party for 5 out of town guests and the venue called me 2 hours before our reservation to say they were cancelling our reservation for the day due to a "staffing issue". No one apologized at all, they just said "you can reschedule if you want." Very disappointed with both the oversight and customer service.
google avatar

Mckaila G.

Yelp
The best experience and bang for your buck! $22 for a tasting and they now offer snacks. Ambiance is incredible and I love their wine. Staff is always super friendly and knowledgeable

Haley N.

Yelp
Isaiah made our evening! We went with a group for a wine tasting on a Wednesday. We loved the wines and learned so much about the wine making process! We will be back for sure!
google avatar

Rick M.

Yelp
Trelle is the best bartender ever. Absolutely fantastic service. Very happy we stopped by after work. He was so pleasant and attentive. This spot is super lucky to have him!

Hilary P.

Yelp
I saw Chicago Winery while I was driving past it, and I thought it looked cool and made a mental note to try it. This place is worth trying out! A group of us did a wine flight tasting and it was $20 for 5 samples of wine, and all of the ones we tried. The service was great - all of the employees are very personable. Also, the ambiance is perfect for a night out with friends or date night. I definitely will be returning!
google avatar

Aunya B.

Yelp
I love everything about Chicago Winery. The staff is amazing. The food is always good. The drink selection (wine and cocktails) is wonderful. The decor is beautiful. It's my favorite spot in Chicago. It gets better every time I go! I highly recommend it and take friends whenever I get a chance.

Angela M.

Yelp
The food and ambiance were amazing! I would go back! The house made Malbec was great! The chef charcuterie was amazing!

Geoff C.

Yelp
I took my family to Livi/Chicago Winery for brunch for my son's birthday. The food, service and decor was superior. We had several different items off the menu, such as the bakery basket, short rib hash, Dutch baby, everything was delicious. Our server Aron, was absolutely awesome. He was extremely personable, professional and attentive to our needs. The wine steward even gave a us a bottle of champagne for my son's birthday and then gave us a tour of the entire restaurant and wine distillery. They have been open since November and need help to get the word out about them. Try them, you won't be disappointed. Let's support a good restaurant and help them survive in an extremely competitive industry.

L M.

Yelp
Wine was dull , service was very poor. Actually he was rude Do not try the tasting , all tasted the same , we left after the second wine . Place is very attractive.

Yelp
I visited Chicago Winery as an option for a corporate event. The space is stunning, and Ivy was very helpful answering all of our questions for event planning. Their staff are very dedicated to creating a bespoke event experience, including an onsite event coordinator on the day of the event to usher guests, assist with the flow, and oversee food service. The space is jaw-droopingly beautiful, and the menu options are high quality. I was blown away by visiting and was impressed by Ivy's willingness to make a unique event for my needs.

Patty W.

Yelp
It was my first time here. I have to say since we walked in we were greeted right away. The place is beautiful. The food was excellent and my server Samantha was excellent. You need to try the pate with champagne that they make in-house. Also , the short-rib... excellent...!!!! Very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Knowing that they make their wine in house is very impressive. Great happy hour specials. The managers came to our table to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. Overall I recommend this place. You'll love the food and service... Will be back every time I'm in the city.

Whitney J.

Yelp
Wonderful venue in River North. Went here on a Sunday afternoon with a group of 10. The venue is spacious and the wine and food was terrific.

Mandy C.

Yelp
My son and I popped in for a glass of wine -- after chatting with the SUPER knowledgeable bartender who is fantastic and a wealth of information - we managed to have several more glasses and then went up to the second floor roofdeck - OMG - its fabulous !!!!! Cannot wait to go back there.

Valerie B.

Yelp
Very nice wine tour and tasting tonight with Patrick and Isaac. Outstanding service, excellent cheese and cuts board, wonderful deco, friendly atmosphere ! we highly recommend !

Monica E.

Yelp
Delicious wine!! Pinot noir is phenomenal and Isaiah was our server! He made the wine tasting worth every penny! Such a fun hour of wine and learning about the history of the wine and why it's all so delicious! If I could give 7/5 stars I would this is a very important stop on your Chicago vacation

Sydney C.

Yelp
Isaiah and Patrick and amazing. We did a wine tasting with them and learned so much about the wines. They were very enthusiastic and the best bar tenders.

Amber R.

Yelp
Isaiah and Patrick were the absolute best!! Light of my life and so energetic and entertaining. I cannot recommend this place and then enough!

Danielle M.

Yelp
Great place to visit for happy hour or drinks before dinner! Isaiah and Patrick were great hosts; very knowledgeable and fun banter!

Sabrina K.

Yelp
The winery tour was very informative. The choice of wines offered broad. For the amount paid (~$40 pp), it would have been nice to have small food bites. I will go back to try the flight of wines (~$20 pp) and hopefully they will have the option to purchase charcuterie board or small bites.

Taylor J.

Yelp
10/10! that's my rating. Excellent service and nice staff. The GM, Justine is fabulous and made sure we had the best experience. The steak was cooked perfectly and paired with my favorite red wine. Now with brunch options- amazing! I had the French toast and shareable avocado toast- YUM! I highly recommend you dine here.
