Blarney Stone to close in Wrigleyville after 50 years - Eater Chicago

"Chicago’s Blarney Stone, the Irish watering hole that’s served Wrigleyville for half a century, will permanently close early next month at the end of the Cubs’ season. The bar will close its doors for the last time on Saturday, October 2 at 3424 N. Sheffield Avenue, ownership announced in a Facebook post. First opened in 1970 on the corner of Sheffield and Newport avenues, the neighborhood stalwart typifies a sports bar of the era, equipped with a pool table, green pressed tin ceiling, dark wood paneled walls, and decorative Irish flag. Pope John Paul I and President John F. Kennedy gaze down from framed photographs above the bar over crowds of patrons tossing back $4 beers. Sad fans took to social media to share their stories about Chicago’s Blarney Stone, recalling meeting loved ones for the first time and watching the Cubs’ World Series Game 7 win in 2016." - Naomi Waxman

Overall: Blarney Stone is a dive bar through and through, which is a welcome reprieve from the rest of Wrigley. The good: Dive-y in most of the best ways possible. Darts, pool table, low lighting, bar stools, golden tee, you get the deal. The place is always half-full or less, which is amazing considering how they manage to stay open, but also amazing cause that means it’s never crowded. The bar staff is always friendly and they play great music. Pretty simple drink menu, but not in a bad way. The not-so-good: The service is sometimes spotty, where you may have to wait for drinks for several minutes. And, even with it being a dive bar, the prices are not exactly low. And, the back room is usually much louder than the front, and not in a good way. Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 8/10

I went during one of the cubs games and grabbed a pitcher for a good deal. I had family in from out of town and I understand they were busy but the bouncer made 2 of my party wait outside in line for 15 minutes because of their 1-in 1-out policy. What I didn't get is I counted people leaving and the bouncer still wasn't letting them in after I counted over 12 people leave and they were right at the door... We left shortly after and went elsewhere. I'd recommend getting friendly staff that can communicate there policies better.

Watched the Cubs win the world series through the window here. Great memory

I had a great time here. I was staying at the Wrigley Hostel down the street. I played pool with a Minnesota Fats pool league guy and got my butt kicked. One weirdo had to get thrown out, because he was annoying the customers and wearing creepy sun glasses inside at night. Bartender handled it with aplomb, than gave us all a shot. Talked with a regular for awhile, very real, Chicago bar experience.

My wife and I walked in here after a Cubs game and we were blown away by the amazing service and fellow customers. The prices were so cheap compared to the rest of Chicago and they had weird Al on the juke box. This place is good times.

This is the best Bar in Wrigleyville, sensible people on staff, lowest prices, laid back, unpretentious atmosphere. Billiards table, darts, centrally located. Best place to enjoy sports with friends, love the bartenders.

Service is very polite and the atmosphere of the bar changes as the people come in prices are way better from some of the bars around here and if you get there early enough you are guaranteed. And good chair and a comfortable time

owner was rude, did not care about his customers in the least. Ordered a bud light and was served some kind of pale ale. turns out, the taps were on the wrong kegs in the back. Owner went back to switch the taps, but didn't even offer to switch out the beer in my glass that I did not care for.
