"Downtown’s Egg Spot has a name that pretty much says it all. They serve eggs any style with a few slices of bacon and toast, or in one of their sandwiches, which are more like egg burgers in terms of shape and size. They also do $20 bottomless mimosas on the weekend. It’s a pretty casual spot, and the food won’t blow your mind - but it’s good for a quick breakfast if you’re short on time and patience." - Ryan Pfeffer

"You have to be brave to open a fried chicken sandwich spot these days, because there isn’t exactly a shortage of great ones that already exist. Not only that, but this place in the East Village is right next door to a KFC. But the gamble is paying off for the team behind Chicken & The Egg. They’re serving some of the better chicken sandwiches in the city. Every version here (except for two vegan/veggie ones) comes with panko-crusted dark meat, and both the Ma Barker with vodka sauce/fresh mozzarella and the Lindbergh with garlic sauce/za’atar oil are really good. Our favorite is the G-Men, which comes with thick-cut bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. It’ll be the first thing you want when you wake up on a Sunday morning and realize those five shots you took last night came from a 140 proof bottle of liquor. As for sides, skip the way-too-salty cucumbers that are drowning in white miso, and get the orzo made with Velveeta and spicy bread crumbs. It tastes exactly like boxed mac and cheese, and we mean that as a compliment. This place only has a small ledge to eat your food on, but there’s a huge speakeasy (Sincerely, Ophelia) in the back where you can order anything from the menu. photo credit: Taner Kurtz" - Kenny Yang

Yet to try the fried paneer here but the chicken sandwich with pesto was amazing. They really fry it well. Will be back. Update: I now get the Level5 sandwich with paneer (instead of tofu). The paneer did not feel very fresh but still awesome by all means. Ask for pesto if you get the Badmaash sandwich.

This spot has now changed the name to The Flore. Yummy avocado toast. Good cappuccino and chocolate Frappuccino. Nice outdoor area to chill and watch the day go by. Nice breakfast spot.

Pretty underwhelming. Chicken sandwich is small, has chicken tenders not a full chicken sandwich and the fries weren’t crispy and tasted like frozen fries. Prices here were reasonable though and the menu is quite creative. Leave it for drunk food not real food.

Chicken and Egg is a newish eatery in the East Village that serves a menu of comfort food options like fried chicken sandwiches, fries, wraps, etc. the interior is very small-- a few seats at the window...the rest of the space is then order counter and kitchen space. apparently there is a speakeasy that will open as part of Chicken and The Egg. open from day to midnight and offering takeout and delivery. the menu here is really confusing BECAUSE they have several handwritten menus above the order counter but the menus pretty much lack the prices for each item. then there is a separate 9-5 special menu with also no prices. the only way to find out the price of menu items is by going through ONE touchscreen to order bc there is no person at the counter. while I was there there was no person at the counter just the dude in the kitchen. so I assume Chicken and Egg doesn't take cash only card and basically operates via the touchscreen or food-order apps like GrubHub or UberEats. overall I don't think a touchscreen with all the info is a good flow for customers, just my opinion though. i ordered the Disco Belle fries for takeout--Disco Belle fries ($10 + tax + tip) : Country Gravy & Mozzarella Cheese over French fries. the grill guy made my food with care and boxed it up neatly to go as you can look into the small kitchen space from the order counter. tbh, the fries were pretty mediocre and not a great value. the fries were not crispy at all, the country gravy was not flavorful, and there was not enough mozzarella cheese to get the fries all cheesy and melty. the fries need to be double fried to crisp them up as they desperately need some crunch. the fries don't seem to be blanched beforehand which draws the moisture out and then sb fried in beef tallow to add some much needed fatty flavor. the country gravy was bland and the mozzarella added was too meager. this is a poor rendition of actual "disco fries" which are typically done with brown gravy and tons of mooZzzzzzzeralla. anyway the fries are a big miss. hopefully they fix this in the future as the place is still pretty new. can't speak to the fried chicken but it did look good from a glance. the staff are friendly and hardworking

Few places you can find with the chicken cooked right. It was the best chicken sandwich! Fives star restaurant care and delicious. I’ll have to look for an excuse to go back to the city to try something else in their menu. They have a great space inside, kind of hidden if you don’t pay attention. Nice ambiance, had a nice beer and went back to brooklyn, I ll be there with friends. Looks fun.

I've tried a few of their chicken sandwiches here. There's a lot of choices when it comes to getting a fried chicken sandwich in the surrounding blocks, so I wouldn't say this is the best I've had. However, Mealpal keeps bringing me back here when I want something quick. Worth a try, interesting menu.
