Chicken Kitchen Review - Shepherd's Bush - London - The Infatuation

"Somewhere in W12, there is a dumpling burger waiting to be eaten. Why does that affect your life? We’ll tell you why. At this spot on Goldhawk Road, you can get some great jerk chicken sandwiched inside a fried dumpling. The dumpling is fluffy, and we could eat a whole batch of them alone (which they do sell), but the Caribbean jerk spiced chicken inside is saucy and full of flavour. You can add things like fried plantain, avocado, and cheese, or you can keep it simple. It’s a popular spot with limited seating, so if you’re in a rush taking it away is the better option. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli" - Rianne Shlebak

We had to original bowls, delicious flavorful chicken, the yellow rice is heaven. 2 cups of soup which accomplished the bowl perfectly. I was craving guac and also prefer the coleslaw.. yummy full and had left overs..

Google
I have never been disappointed with this place. I work in the area, so I came here pretty often. The quality and quantity are unbeatable for the price, especially in Rice Village. The staff super quick and always ready to provide great service. It’s hard to not recommend this place.

Google
It's so good, they're always super kind and the service is quick. Get the spicy cilantro sauce for your chop chop bowl and get some plantains while your there.

Google
Very impressed the chicken was really juicy. Keep in mind thats dark meat so i can't speak for the breast. Regardless, meat was tender and juicy and the bowl I got had rice and beans in it. I'm happy to say the rice was the perfect consistency, not mush. Sauce was excellent too. Go for the spicy cilantro or the mustard'n curry. Note that neither are spicy but they have flavor and I like that. Vibe was nice, looks like they upgraded from dingy to comfortable. Have a pretty hard +4.5 star rule on google maps since they're pretty generous. Not many restaurants in Rice that pass the test. Figured I'd drop in and give it a shot. Happy I did.

Google
Just left from here and felt a review was in order. Great food! I had a chicken wrap with all the fixings and it was delicious! I turned the corner to go pay for my meal and noticed all the really good looking sides for the plates. Can’t wait to come back. Real homemade food vibes.

Google
This is the third time they haven't put the right sauces that were ordered. Its so frustrating that they cannot read a order right. Not worth it. Instead of getting mad at how they deal with customers and their orders I would rather take my business somewhere else.

Love the food here. Always fresh and tasty.

Yelp
Love this place. Go as often as I can. Friendly service and delicious food. Close to work and easy to park in the rear.

Yelp
In search of an inexpensive lunch, will not return. Chicken was dry. After drowning it in salsa, was still dry. Added more salsa so I'm now eating mostly salsa and rice, having moved the chicken off to the side. Basic utilitarian seating, there were several to go orders and a couple of regulars. Not the place for me.

Yelp
This should be a 3 1/2 star review if Yelp would just let us use a half. It was not a four because the rice was a little dry and undercooked for my taste. However, it was still edible. I used to frequent here on a regular basis, and I remember the sauces tasting just a little different/better. They are still good, just not the same. The chicken was mostly tender and tasty, but I had a few bites that were a little "crispy". Beans were good, and the lettuce/tomates tasted fresh. Overall, worth a return.

Yelp
FOOD? 8/10 - portions & food quality is both great! SERVICE? 8/10 - super quick & helpful! AMBIANCE? 5/10 - not meant to be a place of ambiance - instead, a quick eatery. Man, this place is UNDERRATED! Absolutely fantastic bowls that are equivalent (or better) to that of Chipotle.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant before, it has very simple, but delicious lunch/dinner items. I ordered the Deluxe Chop Chop meal--Grilled Chicken Breast with lettuce and tomatoes served over yellow rice. Again, simple but delicious. They have fountain and bottled drinks available with your meal and they also have a variety of sauces you can top your food with, I went with Spicy Cilantro Ranch. It was DELICIOUS!! The staff were really nice and hospitable and there is plenty of seating inside. If you're looking for a healthier lunch option, good portion sizes all for a good price, this place is it!

Yelp
This is the best to eat the best tasting chicken and so healthy, not only the chicken but also the side orders. Feel like I get healthier after eating there. My wife and I have gone there with another couple several times and it is always so good. The other couples have also gone back without us. Great customer service and such a reasonable price. We shall return many times into the future.

Yelp

Yelp
Came to chicken kitchen while in rice village after seeing it boast "healthy" on the sign. This wasn't first time and I was promptly greeted. It appears they have chicken lol, served in the form of dinners, salads and their most popular bowls. I ordered the Mexican Chop-Chop which has Freshly grilled chopped breast with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, sour cream, & cheddar cheese over yellow rice. It was very good and the portion size was very large. The price point is also very reasonable. I enjoyed the flavors and will certainly be back to try other items

Yelp
I loooooooooove this place. The owner / manager is such a nice guy. The food is always fresh, delicious, and high quality. I come here every week and it's the highlight of my Wednesday.
google avatar

Yelp
No frills healthy grilled chicken and salad (chopped iceberg lettuce with diced tomatoes) or grilled chicken and rice bowls for a very reasonable price point ($8.49 for regular bowl). Service is fast, courteous and enthusiastic. The one major plus is their addictive spicy cilantro sauce. It is the bomb!

Yelp
I ordered on grub hub. I've never eaten here before today. I ordered the 1/2 of a chicken plate with two sides. I got mashed potatoes, and plantain. The food had great flavor except for the styrofoam taste that went into the mashed potatoes and pita bread. Next time I'll get the salad instead of the mashed potatoes. When getting it delivered. Will be returning when I'm craving chicken again!

Yelp
My friend put me onto Chicken Kitchen a few months ago and I've been coming here a few times each month. From a student's perspective, there's really not a better option if you want a good cheap meal that's gonna fill you up and not make you feel gross after like fast food. The folks that work here are super kind and they also make everything super fast. I've waited 4x longer in the Whataburger drive thru for a cold burger. The best items to get in my opinion are the Cuban or the Oriental Chop Chop. The Chop Chop is like their version of a rice bowl and it's an incredible amount of food for the price. Chicken is never dry and rice always cooked perfectly. They have a spicy cilantro sauce which honestly could go great on anything. The mashed potatoes are also homemade and taste delicious. They have a discount for Rice students which is always nice to see. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
one of my favorite places to eat! fresh hot and the staff is fantastic. use the back parking for easy access. healthy healthy healthy..

Yelp
Despite the not so flattering pics on yelp, Chicken Kitchen dishes out some yummy and satisfying fare. When they say "Chop Chop," think tender, succulent bite-sized chicken pieces layered over your choice of rice or salad bowl. The rice comes in white, yellow (almost a bit too salty but savory and delicious), and brown (for an up-charge). They come in varieties like Teriyaki, Cuban, and their original, and are accompanied by 2 of their signature sauces (or 3 if you order a large). The salad bowls are chopped up romaine, and if you drizzle on the sauce, cover the bowl with the lid, and shake, you have a stellar mixed salad :) We had these delivered overnight while on call at the hospital, and the large comes in a generous portion that's perfect for snacking on in the wee hours of the morning when the munchies hit. For the price around $7for regular and $8 for large sizes, Chicken Kitchen is a great bang for your buck! Although not the first place I'll pick if I'm making a point to eat out, I'll be back for something if I'm searching for something quick and satisfying!

Yelp
The food is decent, but the prices.... THE PRICES. They make me feel like it's 2010. So simple and easy for a weeknight take out dinner
google avatar

Yelp
Chicken kitchen is consistently yummy and worth the price. We ordered several times this week because they are now on DoorDash and they have many healthy options. If you haven't tried chicken kitchen and you think chipotle is the best that it gets when it comes to a salad bowl, think again. My only wish is that they had hummus for the pita bread. There are so many chop chop bowls to try and other menu items and the chicken breast is always flavorful and moist.

Yelp
Super good & fresh!!!! Customer service was great! I went during an Astros game & the staff was watching and I appreciated it!

Yelp
Sitting at home, watching gossip girl, and suddenly I'm in the mood for some chicken. I open up my ubereats app and noticed Chicken Kitchen and it was like a message from above. I perused the options and opted for a quarter dark rotisserie chicken with 2 sides, cole slaw and plantains and the teriyaki chop-chop. I'm not going to lie, the meals reminded me of those from pollo tropical, a restaurant I LOVED when I lived in Florida. I excitedly dug in. I will agree with some of the reviews that I'd prefer more of the chopped chicken on my chop-chop, but I found the bits that I had to be flavorful and yummy with the brown rice it was on top of. For a lil razzle dazzle, I added some of the cole slaw and plantains to the mix which made for an excellent meal. The rotisserie chicken was also very tasty. I usually crave rotisserie chicken every once in a while, and this hit the spot; succulent and we'll seasoned. I definitely think I'll order from them again but I highly recommend that for to-go/delivered orders they separate the pita bread from the meal because my bread was wet from the dishes' condensation.

Yelp
Was driving around rice village one night and needed to make a quick decision for a casual to-go dinner. Ended up at Chicken Kitchen and decided to grab something here since it's been a minute since I've been here last. The restaurant is a Chipotle/cafeteria style chicken place. You pick a prefixed menu item or order as you go down the line. The bf opted for the large Mexican style chicken over rice and I opted for the Cubano! You can also get it as a wrap or salad! First the type of rice - white, brown, yellow and then they top it with grilled chicken! Funny cause they actually chop it up and then measure it out so you get an actual cup of chicken. The bf ordered first and they literally measured the cup and did put out the last few pieces of chicken in from what they already chopped. He was so disappointed. They then chopped up the chicken for my bowl and measured it out and decided to give me the rest that was leftover. Top with lettuce, tomatoes, a pita and your choice of sauce. The spicy cilantro sauce definitely made the dish. The chicken was juicy and it was a good, healthy, filling dinner. I enjoyed it - especially for the price and it being a quick fast food option. Bf said he prefers Chipotle and thought it was just ok - I agree only because it wasn't anything fancy or special.. you get grilled chicken, rice, lettuce and tomatoes and lots of it. Without the sauce, it would've been pretty bland on its own.

Yelp
Chicken kitchen is the perfect place for quick to-go delicious food. I used to frequent this place in Miami so finding one in my area has been great. This particular location is clean and the staff is very friendly! My go-to dish is the Mexican chop chop. You can also customize your chop chop as you like so you always get exactly what you want. Ingredients are fresh! The large bowls are very filling and I always have enough for seconds later. The regular is also a good size for a meal. Tu is last time I went, I picked up a loyalty card: after 10 meals, you get one free. Can't wait to come back for more.

Yelp
Came here around 8:15 pm on a Saturday. I actually was about to go to Pokeworks with my partner, but this place caught my eye (it's right next door). I wanted to try something new so after looking it up on Yelp, I decided to give it a shot! I got the large Cuban Chop Chop for $10.50, but you can also get the regular size for $9. The restaurant reminds me of Chipotle in terms of the way the food is prepared/served, as well as the types of food offered. My bowl had grilled chopped chicken breast, lettuce, tomatoes, black beans, and yellow rice. It normally comes with white rice, but my server recommended I try the yellow rice (I think it's cooked with a chicken broth?) instead. There is no cost difference! However, if you want brown rice, I believe it's $0.50 more. I got a cilantro-based sauce (the other option was mustard-based), and the bowl came with two pieces of pita bread. My favorite thing about this place is the value. I was able to split my bowl and bread into two full meals, as the serving size is very generous! They don't skimp on the amount of chicken they give you either. Although the bowl may have less ingredients than a typical Chipotle bowl, I felt they were higher quality and still gave a full flavor profile to the dish. This will be my new go-to place if I need something simple and am starving!

Tee L.

Yelp
I usually enjoy the food here, but my last two visits have not been good. Both times, I received overcooked, dry chicken on my salad. The portion, however, was a good size.
google avatar

Carolina B.

Yelp
Convenient location for a super quick bite. The chicken is grilled right there, just like at Chipotle. Got the Cuban chop chop and it was delicious and fresh. The place is cleaner than it looks from the outside (because to me, this plaza always seems a bit dirty). Vibe is a very small cafeteria. Staff is friendly and efficient. I'll definitely be back to try other menu items!

David A A.

Yelp
I went today to place an order in person , it was just 9:10 pm and the back door was locked already , there was a lady already changing the trash bags very close the door and she just ignored me when I knocked the door which I got very disappointed because she just walk away where I could it see her. They should keep the door open for customers until closings time. Good is good just saying that it wasn't nice at all
google avatar

Lou R.

Yelp
Like how most other reviews start. This place really doesn't look like much from the outside. When you walk in there isn't an elaborate array of signs or misleading photos. But what I instantly noticed was the cleanliness of the dining area and the workstation. May family and I were immediately greeted and instantly felt comfortable. We were helped with our choices and what's popular. We ordered the Mexican chop chop, the 4 piece rotisserie with yellow rice and charro beans and potato and green beans. Everything smelled and tasted great. Thank you.
google avatar

Ron P.

Yelp
Awesome place!! Being going here for years can never go wrong with the Mexican chop chop.

Marc F.

Yelp
Wonderful food, friendly staff - best roasted chicken in town now that Anthony's has closed

Kaitlyn P.

Yelp
Chicken Kitchen is by far the best restaurant in Rice Village. The chicken is so tasty and the Mexican Chop Chop with the spicy cilantro sauce is my go-to when I need a quick and tasty meal. I can usually be in and out of here with my food within 3 minutes. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Wendy T.

Yelp
This review is mainly for the Original Chop Chop. I've never tried anything else or gotten anything else. The sides never really look appetizing. The chopped grilled chicken is always very good and flavorful. It comes with the yellow rice and some sort of flat bread (which I don't care for). I mainly eat the chicken, rice, and add the cilantro sauce. The cilantro sauce makes the dish super delicious. It's about $7-$8 bucks, but I am always satisfied whenever I get it.
google avatar

Michelle B.

Yelp
Okay this is going to be a harsh review, so readers you've been forewarned. We wanted to try this place because it looked healthy, had good reviews, and wasn't expensive. We decided to check it out for lunch one day and I got the cuban chop-chop, while my fiancé got the original chop-chop. Guys....anyone can make this at home. This is literally chopped up chicken, over either tons of yellow rice for the original or with random other inexpensive, easy to grab ingredients that you can get for less at a grocery store. The pita was completely bland, so I didn't even bother eating it, and there's not even a ton of chicken. The cilantro sauce is the only special part of this place for me, so I slathered it all over my dish. I can see this as a fast food option when you really have not had any time to cook and want to be healthy, but otherwise this place to me doesn't have a niche.

Tony P.

Yelp
I miss this place. I only get it when I'm in Miami. I wish it was adapted in more places like Philadelphia!
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
Ironically enough, I was the one who suggested that my coworker go to Chicken Kitchen today. For ToGo orders, I highly suggest that you check your order before you leave. This was the second time that we ordered ToGo and the order was not correct. Today, I decided to text my coworker to bring me a quarter of dark rotisserie chicken. He came back with a wing and a dry no skin breast. I did not say skinless, because that would imply that I requested it that way. I did not. I was very disappointed in the taste as well. It was bland and dry. The reason that I'm only giving it a 3 is because they are too inconsistent for my palate. The consistency in the salads are where its at. You'd be rolling the dice if you ordered the rotisserie chicken, ijs. And yes, I did try to call them, but the line was busy for two hours.

Yelp
So I was super hungry and wanted something to eat in the area. I saw Chicken Kitchen and decided to go. When I walked in I was immediately greeted and I told them it was my first time and the guy behind the counter made several recommendations. I ended up getting the Mexican Chop-Chop and it was so good! They also have sauces to the side where you can top your entree. I chose the Mustard and Curry sauce and it complimented the Mexican Chop-Chop perfectly! Overall, I had a great experience. With fast service and nice-sized portions, this is definitely a place I'd recommend. *TIP*--Once you get to the register, pick up a loyalty card and you'll get your 11th meal free!

Yelp
Im really surprised I haven't seen more reviews about this, but chicken kitchen is essentially the off-brand knock off of the Caribbean chain Pollo Tropical. Chop chop vs. tropi chop? I see you By the food, Was overall super unimpressed. The salad was just a massive amount of lettuce - but the kind of lettuce used as a garnish - diced tomatoes, some chicken, and literally nothing else. Honestly the chicken tasted pretty good - the reason this review is two stars instead of one- but it didn't make up for the lack of everything else in the bowl. Even the more substantial Mexican style bowl was basic. To top it off, the Sauces were nothing special - the curry mustard tasted no different than a typical Dijon, the cilantro was watery. Sure the meal seems cheap until you realize you could make the same thing at home for even less with more satisfaction. Overall really disappointed and there are MANY better options in the area

Yelp
I am addicted to Chicken Kitchen. It is part of my post workout routine in the evenings after I am finished with my routine at the nearby Ballys. When I need something tasty, filling, and healthy, I go here for a quick meal. Located across from BW3s in the village, you might ask... what is Chicken Kitchen? Well they have a variety of dishes, wraps, and bowls, but their most famous meal (and the meal that I get) is the variety of chicken and rice bowls commonly referred to as the "chop chops." My routine meal? I get the deluxe chop chop... a seemingly simple bowl of yellow rice, a cup of freshly chopped grilled chicken breast, some lettuce, tomatoes, and some flatbread. After paying, you can take your tray over to the sauce station where you have your choice of a variety of sauces ranging from bbq to vinagrettes.. but I usually like to get the mustard curry sauce... put that stuff on top of the deluxe chop chop and you have a very very very simple yet tasty bowl that hits the spot after a grueling workout. They have a location downtown at the McKinney Place Tunnel as well. Oh and they have free wifi here.

Stephanie R.

Yelp
This is my favorite place to pick up a fresh, healthy dinner for my family! Must try the mustard curry sauce!

Christopher R.

Yelp
Great service. Great food big portions and cheap. And a chill environment. I love chicken kitchen. The staff are so nice.
google avatar

Aysha S.

Yelp
The chicken is flavorful and tender and you can't really go wrong with any of the entrees, i.e. salad or rice bowl. The sauces are legit too. Curry mustard and creamy cilantro are my favorites and you can have endless refills of sauce from their sauce bar. Okaaaay, who doesn't love free refills of sauce?! I've been coming here on and off for 8+ years and the food is consistently good. Simple, but a damn good alternative to fast food. Also, I took a few years off from visiting just b/c I wasn't in the area anymore, but shout-out to the staff who gave me a warm and friendly welcome during my recent visit. I'll keep coming back until I'm old and crusty.

Yelp
My office orders catered lunch every day and we decided to go with Chicken Kitchen. We ordered the box lunches which consisted of a variety of wraps, a bag of chips, cup of fruit and a cookie. I grabbed a bag box with the southwest chicken wrap. As I was eating the chips, I noticed a funny taste. I looked at the expiration date and it read "May 9", however today is July 11. I immediately threw the whole box in the trash at that point. I called the restaurant to let them know that our box lunches had old expired chips in them. He said he bought them from HEB and offered to go buy new chips and bring them to us. I asked for a refund on part of what we paid and he said he would give us a discount on the next order. Umm no thank you, there be no next time order.

Yelp
I'm almost ashamed to say that this was my very first time trying this place out. I had passed it up many times, not ever even thinking to stop inside. It's because of YELP that I even tried it today. As soon as I walked through the door my heart began to smile. The beautiful aroma of chicken and all it's marvelous wonder took my nose for a magic ride. I literally smiled the entire time I was there. It all looked and smelled so good. With my chicken addiction, I was in complete shock, in awe, could barely move. That's when the cook and all his helpfulness stepped in and suggested the mexican chop bowl. My tastebuds are still in a daze from the trip they took to chicken heaven just a few hours ago. Everyone was so eager to help, didn't rush me when I was caught in a chicken daze, and even offered up samples to ensure I was making the choice I wanted. They even have special sauces that make the flavors of the food jump right out at you. If you love chicken the way I love chicken, if you're reading this, you're so late. Catch up. NOW! Loved it.

Yelp
This was my first time at this kind of restaurant. I was a little skeptical when I ordered the Cuban chicken and they scooped up rice and picked up a piece of chicken from a container and put it on the plate. I'm still not 100% sure what's Cuban about it. But it turned out really tasty! What really made it is the selection of sauces. The spicy cilantro was indeed spicy and probably my favorite. I mixed that with ranch to get some tangyness and I polished off the plate. Prices are ok and the portions are filling. I could do with a bit more veggies but the regular size was decent enough. It was quiet when we stopped by for dinner on Tuesday and service is quick. Would consider stopping by again, especially after going for a run around rice.

Yelp
Save yourself sometime and go to halal guys. This restaurant is at the level of Panda Express and I think Panda Express might even be better. Staff was nice tho, place was clean. Food was w.e.

J G.

Yelp
This place has been in the Rice Village for a while for good reason. The food consists of rice, sometimes beans, lettuce and cheese all with chunks of chicken. Very tastey and plentiful. Dine in, take out and delivery are all options. Reasonably priced. Highly recommend.
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
This place is great. Grilled chicken chop chop with some rice as a nice healthy meal. Friendly staff, taking appropriate Covid precautions. Not sure that I would consider this "fast food" because everything is so fresh and clean but they can put together your meal in a few minutes, great for a quick lunch. Highly recommend after a run or workout in rice village or perfect to grab if working in the med center.

Yelp
Very Delicious and super healthy too! Better quality than chipotle for sure lol. Will be coming back more often for veggies and meat bowl!

Yelp
Thank you all at Chicken Kitchen for sponsoring our event at Nap Bar in Rice Village! The food hit the spot!

Yelp
I never heard of this place but my coworker always mentions it... she's from Florida and she says there are tons of Chicken Kitchens there but this is all Houston has in Rice Village!!! Very good roasted chicken and their sauces are amazing... the owner told me to esp try the spicy cilantro and mustard curry. Both were amazing!!! I had the 2 piece dark with 2 sides! Only downfall which is rice villages downfall is parking!!! Ahhh!! But nice, simple chicken restaurant and recommend.

Yelp
My first visit wasn't so lovely. I tried a meal suggested by a coworker. I'm not exactly sure what it was but it had chopped chicken, rice, veggies and a weird dressing. Before returning, I had to do some Yelp research. Taking a lot of Yelp opinions led me to try the rotisserie chicken. The Yelp community was correct! I truly enjoyed my second visit with a plate of chicken, greens beans and plantains. The staff did a great job making me feel comfortable. I will return to try more items offered on the menu.
