New Orleans’s Hidden Gems for Restaurants, Bars, and Live Music | Eater New Orleans

"Just a street car ride away from the French Quarter, this small club on Canal Street has great live music almost every night — and artists here receive 100% of the proceeds. Dark and moody, it’s one of the best music venues in the city, and you never know who might pop up here. Great sandwiches as well. Enjoyed Chickie Wah Wah in New Orleans for the 1st time during my day weekend in April while seeing the legendary Keith Frank & the Soileau Zydeco Band! There was a slight issue at the entrance regarding our 3rd-party tickets (only $25 btw!!) But the staff was understanding and accepted our email receipt then immediately permitted entry. It was a bit warmer than expected once the dancing started but I had a mini personal fan that helped to keep the party going! Great vibes, everyone was friendly, and we felt quite safe allowing us to simply have a good time! (FYI, they also have a free rear parking lot which was greatly appreciated.)

Google
What an incredibly cool place to see a show. And the music-focused house rules are great (see pic). Taco truck out front is pretty dang good as well.

Google
Great little spot. There was no real pressure on seating but sitting in the stage seats was fantastic. Sue Foley did a fantastic set!

Great small club. Loved seeing the Lost Bayou Ramblers. Good drink prices

Google
Solid spot, caught Grace Bowers! Sound was the best I have ever heard in a venue this small. I was honored to see who I expect to see one of the top rock artists in a few years at such an excellent venue. Crowd and entrance was a bit disorganized, but it was 1 AM, so I would cut them some slack. I will happily come back for another show 🔥

Google
Great, intimate venue for live music. Arrive early to get a good seat. We thoroughly enjoyed The Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band!

Google
If you like live music and you like the blues this is the place. Talent filled the venue with Johnathon "Boogie" Long, Eric Johanson - on the drums, piano and bass world class as well. You can wonder around Bourbon in search of good music or you can just stop on in and find a perfect out of the way spot on Canal...

Yelp
I've only been there once so take this review with a grain of salt. The staff was absolutely delightful and the band was terrific. I hear they used to have food but don't anymore. They do get food trucks in I'm told. Anyway had a blast there. Probably a 10 min bike ride or less down canal from the FQ. Worth a visit for sure.

Cristina C.

Yelp
Nice, small venue. Decent drinks and service will likely be back. Our show was wayyyyyyyyyy shorter than any other show I've been to in years, lasted maybe 20 minutes, but that wasn't the venues fault at all
google avatar

Yelp
Just as i feared the new ownership group appears to have put money/profit over everything. A convenience fee on every "ticket". Can anyone tell me just what that is?? At certain shows all tables and chairs removed which I have to assume is to again increase profit. And now "Reserved" tables for some shows at increased per ticket cost ? WTH??

Yelp
Super nice vibes at Chickie Wah Wah! Kermit had to pay for their re-opening . The owners are awesome!! I enjoyed my night + service there. Love that's it's conveniently located right on Canal Street.

Yelp
Went on a Wednesday night. The cover was $27 which I thought was a lot for a casual venue during non-fest time, but hoped it was going to support the band (later found out nope) short set, reasonably priced drinks good selection of wine. Weird light up display listing drinks maybe helpful to bar staff but not supporting the groovy decor. Super short set.

Yelp
So being a mid city resident we were extremely happy that this place had opened up again. However this new management is trying to milk us for every penny. A $20 advertised ticket is actually $27.50 because they add tax(ok we understand that one), then a "convenience fee" and also a "credit card fee"! What a lot of whohaw! Next they have decided to offer true cocktails usually with only 2 bartenders. This slows down EVERYTHING and just getting a beer takes 20 minutes. Seriously at least Dale understood his audience. The way it's going now I suspect they will have to close their doors soon because we can't afford to get this nickel and dimed!

Yelp
First time to go, first time to see Jon Cleary - had a fabulous time with friends! Loved the orange wine (I had to google it). We had already eaten, but wish we had saved room for the tantalizing bbq being sold outside. Of course this is NOLA so being full does not preclude eating more... Will definitely return to see live shows at Chickie Wah Wah on our next visit.

Yelp
Small joint with big sounds. Went there to see and listen to the great Jon Cleary. It was a little tough to get a good spot to see him because of the crowd in a small venue. We managed a decent spot and really enjoyed the show. The sound was incredible the drinks were delicious. There was alsi a food truck out side with great food also.
google avatar

Yelp
Last year during JazzFest I squeezed into the small Chickie Wah Wahs to catch Jon Cleary, the great Englishman who came to New Orleans and stayed keeping the light shining on New Orleans style piano and vocals. Chickie Wah Wah is small and always slamming with a small stage and a great sound. Great local artists perform there and while there is no food, this is a place to soak in great music. After Cleary played a set he stood up and said he wanted to bring a friend from across the pond to join him and Tom Jones, who was standing a few feet behind me unbeknown to me walked right past me to the small stage where he belted out 5 numbers dedicated to Jerry Lee Lewis who was in the hospital. It's nights like this that make New Orleans magical and a place like Chickie Wah Wah that offers the stage for the magic to happen.

Yelp
Small now famous music club in Mid-City on Canal Street. It was made famous by shows from the Brit transplant Jon Cleary who has become a local legend. The club is a great piano man venue with a nice bar and now a pop-up bbq joint for food. Only drawback for me is that its cash only.

B B.

Yelp
. If I could I'd rate it 0 stars. Watery drinks. Douchey workers. Horrible experience overall

Marc F.

Yelp
Saw John Cleary here. The sound system was tremendous. I would suggest adding backs to their barstools though.

Yelp
Best small bar wins hands down in every category. CLEAN. orderly tidy polite staff, efficiency in every stage from buying tix to enjoying TOP heavyhitter act in intimate and comfortable surrounds. Good sound too. My heartfelt thanks to management and staff for making my day. I can't give higher praise or marks than the FIVE STAtRS in this review.

Yelp
Fun name, fun place, built-in BBQ. And, except for what comes with the BBQ, no smoke! The layout is well suited to music, drink, and BBQ. Music? Several tables face the stage, and it's not too loud in any spot. Drink? The bar is long, well stocked, and beer served quickly and cold (I think I saw the barkeep pull out frozen glasses). Food? The Blue Oak BBQ stand occupies a corner of the space, and serves up good "21st century bbq"--which means you get a choice of sauces, the sides are MUCH better than the bbq places of old, and the meats are generally higher grade. I've digressed; I need to review Blue Oak separately. Back to the bar...and the music. In our case, Mississippi Rail Company's debut CWW appearance kept us through our dinner and though the whole two sets. The acoustics and electronics were all good, made better by a sound guy in back minding the levels. Past and around the corner from the bandstand is a narrower space where it's a little quieter, serving the same purpose as the patio at Maple Leaf (but still inside). We came looking for food and ended up staying for the music. The cover charge toll keeper doesn't take your money until the music starts, but while the band doing last minute sound checks, a mutually shared "this is gonna be good" glance with my date had me peeling off a twenty in exchange for a wrist stamp. Best Andy J I've dropped in a long time. Did I say "no smoke"? I did! When we got home, no need for a Silkwood shower or to banish our clothes to the special "eeww" hamper.

Yelp
Great place for music, but the bar and -0- food is seriously lacking. I have been going here for years and it's seen better days as far as bar service and food goes. They kitchen is "temporarily" closed, for over 2 years now. The kitchen should be rented out to a food truck or other vendor for quick bites, like may Dat Dog or something similar.... On the other hand, and the only reason I go back, is the quality of musicians they secure in this town is definitely some of the BEST talent around. You cannot go wrong to fill your thirsty ear... Another issue here is the length of time to get a drink. They can pack the house and have only one bartender. She's great, but the wait time is a HUGE miss.
google avatar

Eureeka S.

Yelp
The definition of an intimate venue. Great live music in a tiny bar with a very comfortable vibe. It's located right off Canal, but street parking is still somehow available. If the band gets a little loud for this spot, there's a cool little outside area with tables where you can rest your eardrums while hearing the music clearly, since they keep the door open. I will be back.

Yelp
I found this place on a google search while planning my 5 days in New Orleans and what a great find it was. I wanted to catch some live music in the afternoon before we took a break before dinner and Chickie Wah Wah did not disappoint. The performer that day was't really my style but extremely talented none the less. I had a gin martini and the bartend made it perfect. The drinks are cheap and the BBQ was hearty (I had to try some, even though I was headed to dinner in a bit). Our group really enjoyed this place, some of us smoked on the patio with their drinks while the live music was on speaker out there. Some of us sat at the bar and some of us sat at the stage and watch the live music. Stop in here if you are in the area!
google avatar

Becky M.

Yelp
I enjoyed the atmosphere and awesome live jazz here. The venue has a couple shows per night. There was a $15 cover for the first show. Once that's done, you leave or pay for the next show. There is a good selection of drinks to choose from. They also offer some tacos, which are good! The other alternative is to purchase some sliders from the food truck just out front. Overall, a great experience.
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
I miss Donnas on Rampart, more with each passing trip. However, this place comes as close as any around these days. For me, it's he combination of cheap drinks, great live music, fun people-watching and easy access from the Quarter make it a total winner. CWW has got acts your not going to find in any other part of NOLA. At least based on my pub crawling.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Great venue for intimate performances of some of the best musical talent New Orleans has to offer! This funky space boasts a bar on one side and their in-house bar food partner, Blue Oak BBQ on the other. Lots of hi-boy table seating and a stage that offers wrap around viewing! There is a covered patio adjacent to the space for smoking and generally the cover for shows is under $10. Bar prices tend to be on the higher side than most Midcity watering holes, so prepare for that so you don't experience sticker shock closing your tab.

Yelp
Went on a Saturday night with my 19-year-old son who's into good music and was in town visiting for Thanksgiving break. I picked Chickie Wah Wah because it's open to everyone 18+. I could have bought him a beer because NOLA permits that, but he didn't want one. The bartender was friendly and a draft beer was $5. We got there early (8:30) to get a table near the stage and were successful. I was disappointed to learn that the cover charge was $20, but the artist (Ed Volker) was good and the place eventually filled. The sound system was great and the first set ended about 10:30. We enjoyed the music, so the cover charge was fair and pretty standard for well-known, quality artists.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I went for our first time tonight and our experience was shocking seeing as we didn't make it more than 5 feet from the door before we were confronted by who I'm assuming was the owner/manager who wanted to know if we were there for the show. We told him we came for beer and BBQ and was informed, in a very rude manner, that this was NOT a restaurant, but a music venue with a cover charge, and we would have to take ourselves outside to eat..... WOW. This guy must have failed How to Treat A Customer 101. Still somewhat taken back by how unwelcoming this guy was, we decided to not spend any money on drinks here and instead just ordered BBQ and ate outside. The kicker... when we went to bring our empty BBQ plates back in, we didn't make it inside because he opened the door, took the plates, and shut it before we could step in to see about washing out hands. It's a shame to see places that look like they have great potential literally turn away customers in their tracks because of unfriendly and outright rude management. Won't be back.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Just not sure about this place. I've been twice, both times it was pretty empty, yet they charged a $10 cover. My drink is straight bourbon on the rocks and it was watered down both times long before the "rocks" melted. I had forgotten that from my first visit or I wouldn't have ordered again. I opened a tab, and they immediately put a $25 hold on my account, which they corrected the next day to the proper amount, but not before causing my account to be overdrawn. A warning about that shady practice would've been much appreciated. Some great people play there, so I can't say I won't return. I'll pay a cover if it's someone I want to see but I doubt I'll ever drink there again.
google avatar

Yelp
Jon Cleary plays regularly on Tuesday nights here and while my friends had been seeing him perform for several years here while I'd seen him perform at another club, this was the first time I'd seen him perform at Chickie Wah Wah. Cleary is a blues piano player who not only plays solo piano but solo guitar as well and when playing piano, his performances are a musical journey of New Orleans piano music, often playing it like a percussion instrument much like Professor Longhair. Cleary has toured as a sideman for acts like Bonnie Raitt and Dr. John so when he is in town, he's well worth checking out. Chickie Wah Wah has a stage where a pianist would have their back or side to the audience but Cleary made it work. The decor inside is New Orleans funky, a mixture of signage rescued from old businesses and contemporary painted message signs I've seen in other New Orleans businesses. There appears to be some decent food coming out of the kitchen that I will have to return to try out the next time I catch some music there. Oh I do so hope the Yelp poster writing about the BBQ really meant that it had Tabasco and not tobacco in it.

Yelp
This place is what New Orleans is all about - music! I love this place. The location is convenient for cabbing or taking the streetcar. It's relatively plain on the outside but it's amazing inside! You would not expect it. Right when we pulled in, the owner gave us some suggestions regarding parking. He was actually the doorman and later we found out he helped with sound. He indicated that he wanted to keep the costs low for the overhead so he could focus on bringing in quality music and ensure the cover was reasonable. In the vein, we were witness to one of the BEST bands we had listened to all week that we were in town - and at a very low cover!! We were NOT there for food. This isn't designed to be a restaurant, it's a music venue. I didn't eat anything. I did drink and the bartender was GREAT! Super nice, quick service, and plenty of water on the counter for us to self-serve. However, I am told that the food is very good :-) There was no smoking. Excellent for the musicians who can't afford to inhale second hand smoke while they are performing and even better for the audience who is free to dance along without getting burned. The bathrooms and the space are all very nice. CLEAN!! The chairs and tables are designed to be stacked away so that the space will hold more patrons for dancing and getting up close to the band. I can't wait to come back -- thank you for the BEST night of our trip!

Yelp
New. Favorite. Bar. For seriously. They're nonsmoking. They have sugar free RedBull. They're in my 'hood. (More or less.) They take credit cards. They give your credit card back right after you open a tab. They've got great food. They're a music venue, so there's music all the time. Why haven't I spent more time here? That's certainly going to change. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

John L. H.

Yelp
This is a cool little bar. Mid City is not where I normally hang out. That may need to change, as I have found some nice bars, including this one. This was the location of the last elite event. After the event, some friends and I hung out and watched the band. The stage area is quite small, but there is a large open area for dancing and/or moving rhythmically to the music. There is also an area past the band where you can sit and relax if you aren't into the music. The bathrooms are large and clean, a nice plus for a bar in NOLA. The bar had a good selection of beers and bartenders were friendly and prompt. Next time I am in the area, I will be glad to hang out here again.
google avatar

Jen B.

Yelp
Chickie Wah Wah continues to be one of my favorite places to catch live music. And I am giving it one more start for being in Mid-City with relatively easy parking! IN addition to the things I loved in my last review: -great beer selection -non-smoking bar -live music -funky decor and art -bar food options I want to include: -Consistently Great Headliners -Cleanest Bathroom I went on a Tuesday a few weeks ago to see John Cleary. He played an amazing set of Allen Toussaint favorites and I had a "Only in New Orleans" moment, surrounded by friends and music, that I highly recommend you experience. This is Mid-City's BEST music venue, by far!
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
Music? Check. Funky New Orleans decor? Check. Beer on tap? Check. Altar on stage? Check. This is such a cool bar and definitely feels like a spot where the locals actually go instead of the boozy madness of bourbon. When you walk in, you're greeting by a long wooden bar, dimly lit, really sexy. Belly up, grab a bevvie, start a tab and they give you your card right back which is a score for people who have an issue with leaving their cards.. like me. Stop in and settle in for some good music and strong drinks.
google avatar

Marielle S.

Yelp
This is a cool little place to see live music. Some friends and I saw a band here a few weeks ago. The stage area is small, but the sound quality is good, which can be tough in a smaller place. I really like the atmosphere of the place and the way it's decorated with a "kitschy" New Orleans feel. My only complaint is the bar. It's a really long bar, the place gets packed, and there was only one bartender working on a Friday night. It took forever to get served and the poor bartender looked super frazzled (and I couldn't blame him, at all. He was just swamped with customers.). My suggestion would be to add another bartender on Friday nights. Maybe this was a rare night with only one server. Anyway, I would definitely go back, especially since they have Taceaux Loceaux being served in the kitchen.
google avatar

Jinyoung P.

Yelp
I was back at Chickie Wah Wah this past Saturday because my friend F was raving about the pizza. I had been wanting to try this pizza spot since I found out that Taceaux Loceaux moved to a new location, so when the group decided to go for a drive and grab some pizza, I was excited. We got there and I noticed that there was a cover charge for the bar. My friends just walked in right past the lady collecting the cover and I was one of the two in our group that heard her say, "$8 cover." Luckily for us, she asked if we were there for the music or just to grab some food. We told her we came for the food and she said nothing more. I appreciated this a lot, because she easily could've been like, well, you can't come in here if you're not going to pay the cover. Oh how I love nola and its wonderful, laid-back people. Anyway, there were five of us, and we decided to order a GIANT "Hummer"-size pizza. We went with the Rolls Royce and it pleased every one of us. I had trouble picking up the slice because it was so big. Lol. I would love to try the calzones!
google avatar

Stephen G.

Yelp
I love this place. Writing from inside now using their free WiFi, there is a nice neon "Internet" sign they have at the very top of the bar! Came here to see Pfister Sisters show at 6:30pm on a Thursday night. There was a $5 cover, but I loved the sign that was put on the front door. I liked it so much, I came back Friday night for the 8:00pm performance: Threadhead Fridays w/Paul Sanchez & Friends (the Pfister Sisters highly recommended the show, and I can too). $8 cover. Was a packed house for that show, standing room only. Great beer selection, Draft: Stella Artois, Harp, Gusiness, Abita Wheat, Abita Amber, NOLA Brewing. Bottle (some of them): Abita x6, Sam Adams, Pilsner Urquel, Becks, Newcastle, Bass, Heineken, Harpoon, Booklyn Lager, Anchor Steam, Amstel Light, St. Paulii Gril, Red Stripe, SNPA, Shiner Bock, Woodchick Amber Cider, Port Royal Ehport, Landshark, Dos XX Amber, MGD 6, Rolling rock, Corona, more... Sign on the mirror Thursday for $3 Cajun Iced Tea, it was gone on Friday. So look for specials there. Had the salad for dinner. They fresh-toasted the walnuts! The mixed greens were fresh as could be, the dressing creative and tasty. Friday I had the BBQ served on plate with cornbread, wonderful. I wish I could get a plate like this in Austin for $7. Photo attached. I paid $5 for a Woodchuck cider bottles. A little pricey, but the bargain high quality food makes up for it. Kitchen looks great, stage is great... I love the Neon Trojan condom sign to point way to the bathroom. Sign says they take Visa/MC on the front door. Took my CC to open a tab. Allowed me to put food items on the same tab (asked nicely). Non-smoking, which is pretty rare in NOLA. There is a courtyard out the center of the building and a few tables out front that smokers can access. The sound system was superb, the owner takes his music seriously and worked with the bands on setup. Shows started on time and volume was appropriate to crowd size and room.

Yelp
This is a great little place for live music with a good variety of snacks. Their brussels are amazing. Nachos are delish. Drinks are pretty inexpensive. Only note is to always check to see if they're open before you head out. Have been disappointed twice. Expect to pay a cover, but it's not usually too high, and it pays for great local music.
google avatar

A N.

Yelp
Great spot for local music. Good sound design and an effort to include everyone w extra close circuit tv of the performers (if it's super crowded) Friendly staff. Good local beer selection, out of the fray and 100% of the door goes to the artist. Very nice
google avatar

Keith C.

Yelp
Fun spot for drinks and music. Hate paying covers in NOLA, but drink prices are pretty cheap so it evens out. Can get pretty crowded with a big act, but still a great non-downtown option to hear live music.
google avatar

Alberto D.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere, with bands playing almost every night. Good Mid-City location with amole drinks including Abita draft beers. Staff friendly and establishment clean. Come check out a band, sit back, relax and enjoy the music in this cozy, Canal St. Bar. Also conveniently located by streetcar stop.

Yelp
Three months after my trip to New Orleans, I am still thinking about Chickie Wah Wah's pizza. I shared the crawfish pizza and the arugula salad. The arugula salad was well-seasoned and good. The crawfish pizza was delicious - the perfect blend of cheesiness, spices, with a robust but not too substantial crust. I've eaten my share of great pizza from New York and New Haven (Pepe's!) and this ranks right up there with the best. The only reason this is a four and not five star rating is because the night I went, the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Empty except myself and my friend and the trio of performers onstage, though judging from the other reviews, must have just been an off night.
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
Returning to New Orleans after many years away (sorry, doll!) - I had heard Chickie Wah Wah mentioned many times on the WWOZ calendar and thought it was a great name, with lots of great acts. The evening we arrived, I dragged my friend (not entirely unwillingly after two large drinks at Deanie's in the Quarter) up to see The Iguanas at Chickie Wah Wah. At first we thought we were at the wrong place - it didn't seem very busy but the band took the stage and we were very happy to be there. The Iguanas rocked the house and were joined by the subdudes frontman (even the drummer showed up to chit chat!). The interior of this bar is incredibly well done - it's not over-the-top but it is clear that someone put a lot of thought into a tasteful, fun but still casual atmosphere (without turning it into TGI Friday's). The bathrooms are awesome! The acoustics are great, the selection of beer and the bar service are also great. Plenty of little tables and you might even find a cute girl to dance with you if you give her a wink and a smile.... go check it out!

Yelp
I forgot to review the last time I came here last month. I have been raving about the taco's and great music venue to a friend who lives nearby. I finally got the opportunity to take her here and the taco's are gone!! GASP!! No one had mentioned it on Yelp yet and I was heart broken. We split an asian peanut noodle dish since it was like $10 or something. It was pretty good but hard to shake my craving for those tacos. I liked the fresh veggies in the noodles and the thick sauce. I'll have to come back without the MUST HAVE TACOS mentality and check out the pizza's other reviewers mentioned.
google avatar

MJ B.

Yelp
Some real jack-hole, presumable the owner/manager insulted us because we didn't know the band playing and went outside to listen to them on You Tube. We ended up thinking they sounded cool, but will head to the Blue Nile to see them where we won't be treated like crap. Note to said asshat: when someone wants to google an unknown band before dropping a cover, it's bad business to insult them before they even set foot in the door. Take my money, then treat me like an ass.

Yelp
Saturday night, my best friend and I decided to check out the Madonna show. We both paid $15 each for entry. The first set was three songs from the Ray of Light album and let's just say she should stick to singing in the shower. The greatest tribute to Madge came one whole hour later. I totally enjoy Madonna older hits and the last set knocked it out the park!

Yelp
That Yelp would select this place to host its Yelp Elite holiday party pretty much says it all. This is a neat little space with a full stocked bar and a stage area for live music. There is an adjacent lounge that is pretty nice too. Plenty of tables to sit at. When I was there the flat screens above the bar were running a video of books about bears being burned slowly in a fireplace. The thing I particularly liked about this place was the noise level. You can hear yourself have a conversation here. No background music or distracting noise to drown out your thoughts. But the night I was here the place was rented out for a private function, so I can't speak to how this place is on a normal night.

In town visiting and someone recommended checking this place out. DONT BOTHER! We got a Lyft over and walked in to a guy at the end of the bar telling us there was a $5 cover per person. Ok. Now mind you there are about 15 people in the entire place. We paid. Stopped by bar to grab a beer. We were then told there is a $10 min purchase. Ok We sat down and literally 2 songs and it's over. Wow! Mr Door Man (who I presume to be the owner/manager) please inform your patrons that the music is ending in 12 min. It's a nice courteous thing to do when you are charging a cover for music. Ugh! Never again...paid to get there, paid a cover, paid a min on beer and you are done. No thanks.

Yelp
If you judge this "music venue" by the bathrooms, music, and food--it is as clean as a whistle! (It is NOT a restaurant!) I gave this place 5 stars because 1) the doorman accommodates you in any way, shape, or form. 2) the bar is long and can adequately serve lots of patrons simultaneously! , like 50+ easily (3) the music is very unique -- (like a zydeco style "buffalo soldier" rendition), and if there is a cover 100% of the money goes directly to the musicians 4) there is a BBQ place inside ON-SITE called blue oak BBQ. We had all these double and triple meat BBQ platters, but the ultimate was the "BBQ shrimp taco on a corn tortilla with shreds of pulled pork". It was MY idea to get the $8 "appetizer", while my wife looked at me like I had just been left released from the mental institution. I think I went to go wash my hands, as the two appetizers sat in the plate untouched being that my wife gave me a clear "you're going to eat that AND a BBQ platter!!!" Look, I just got back to eat that appetizer. When my wife exclaimed "that was really good". We should have just gotten 10 taco appetizers. As the bbq portions were kinda small, and even though the BBQ was good, it was frequently cooked (down) with bel-peppers, onions, and tobacco. Which made much of it as spicy. And reason/star #5) there is an outdoor attached hall with patio chairs, and music piped in through a set of Bose weatherproof speakers, so you don't skip a beat and smoke a cigarette and have some nice conversation. The cool part is you don't really have the wind blowing inside every few minutes. Bring you friends here from out-of-town and (use the streetcar for nostalgia and lack of DUI's), I promise you won't be disappointed. You'll be the insider of ALL New Orleans... Go ahead and be the celebrity host ambassador for the night. You won't regret it!!!

Yelp
Great music nice people F*ing great barbecue attentive bartender had a great time. Good wine, reasonable prices. Wish they had secure parking. That seems to be the only downside. No rent a cop and the area is a little scary. But I will return.

Yelp
Standing room only for Anders Osbourne and a $25.00 cover......a bit steep in a town chock full of music. Lively crowd and happening bar. Sound system was quite good which was a scene saver since you could not get within sight or ear shot of the stage.

Yelp
The man working at the door was rude & the music wasn't something we were interested in & when we decided to leave, he picked a fight with our friend, accusing him of persuading us to leave & stealing his business , we already wanted to leave b4 our friend got there... vry upsetting since I was there for maybe a total of 10 minutes and still payed 10$ to get in, and then have the guy at the front yell at our friend.

Yelp
I have to wonder...Why do so many food places come and go through Chickie Wah Wah? I sometimes wonder if the way the owners run the business is with too much of an air of arrogance. I know when my Girly and I had a bad experience there, the owners/business never said anything but the business in the kitchen stepped up quickly to make things right. Why can no one seem to stay in your tiny little kitchen area? You NEED good food to keep going. It seems like new, and often good, businesses keep popping in and out like they were TV shows on FOX. You are no longer that huge minority of places where people can drink and watch live music without smokers f-ing it up with their stank...So it might be time to get your stuff together and find a great place to partner with. Balance is everything. You seem to always be off balance.

Yelp
What a great place. Let's put it succinctly: awesome bands, very clean, friendly and attentive bartenders (hard to find in NOLA sometimes), oh and NON SMOKING!! Acoustics are great, plenty of seating and small enough where most get a good view and everyone gets great music. Sammich shop in the bar is also a bonus delight - review for that forthcoming.

Yelp
Excellent neighborhood music club. They book terrific bands and performers - always worth checking out, if you're not from here or too familiar. Great management. Thanks for the funky little bright spot you make on this stretch of Canal St in mid-city. I'm going tonight to see Mia Borders. A warning to the wise though: do not park in the parking lot next door. Your car will be towed before you order your first beer, and it'll cost you $187 cash, not to mention a scary walk to the tow lot just 9 blocks away. Yes, I missed seeing that tiny little sign in the dark corner of the lot saying no unauthorized parking. The owner was great in his outrage and sympathy. He even bought me a beer. Thanks!
