The New Atlanta Restaurant Openings You Should Know About - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Clocking in at more than 4,000 square feet, this new Mexican restaurant in Brookhaven has plenty of space to sprawl out and enjoy everything from ceviche to tacos to wings. Their patio has more than 30 TVs. And now that they've got their liquor license, you could say they have just as many tequilas on deck. It has all the makings of a party spot." - juli horsford, jacinta howard

Atlanta Chef Maricela Vega Launches Masa and Mexican Provisions Business, Chico | Eater Atlanta

"This masa and Mexican provisions business—built around the chef’s family corn-farming legacy and heirloom corn—appears regularly as a farmers-market pop-up and sells prepackaged dishes, preordered tortillas, and a spicy salsa macha for market pickup. Offerings at markets include sopes cooked on a small grill (with the option to add a fried egg) and a rotating selection of masa-based items; the wholesale plan centers on tortillas, tamales, and tostadas. The owner is simultaneously developing a tortillería and masa shop, troubleshooting equipment and relying on a national “masa clique” for technical and recipe support, while pursuing a warehouse/counter-service space to expand distribution across Georgia and host occasional multi-course, garden-driven dinners that highlight homegrown produce and ceramics inspired by corn." - Muriel Vega

Enjoyed the service! I tried the happy hour and dinner and both were enjoyable. There was a live DJ at dinner and the happy hour menu was pretty decent. Both times the drinks were on point! The chicken taquito and empanada on the happy hour menu is great and the croissant bread pudding and lamb taco were perfect! Definitely would recommend. Maria the manager was very friendly and Chasity was a great bar tender. It’s nice to have this option in the Brookhaven area ❤️

Google
Chico Cantina is a fantastic spot that never disappoints! They serve the best nachos I’ve ever had, and their tacos are simply delicious. I also highly recommend trying the calamari and mussels. What truly makes the experience special is the friendly and welcoming staff. They make you feel right at home. The margaritas are also a highlight, adding the perfect touch to a great meal. I will definitely keep coming back!

Google
Maybe it sounds wild to say, but there were a few too many tv’s. The Happy Hour from 3-6 is not bad, but they are indeed small plates. Flavors reminded me of resort/cruise food and it did the job but certainly was not memorable. One star off for service only because they had to come back to let me know they were out of something I had ordered.

This place just opened less than a week ago, so they’re still working through some kinks. They don’t have their liquor license yet, and I wish they had mentioned that before we sat down or at least posted a sign. It was disappointing to find out after getting settled. The kitchen was slow—it took around 30 minutes to get our calamari, which came out super chewy. They offered to remake it, which we appreciated, but it took even more time. By the time the second plate came out, our table had already been cleared, so we had to eat it with our hands. Unfortunately, the texture was still off and reminded us of rehydrated squid. On the bright side, the staff was friendly and attentive throughout. The manager eventually stopped by to check in and explained everything, which helped smooth things over. Overall, the food was okay and the service was good. Hopefully things improve as they settle in.

Google
Chico Cantina is such a gem in Brookhaven! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, stylish, and inviting. The food was absolutely fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The margaritas were some of the best I’ve had, so great and strong!! perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. I’ve turned into a regular here!!!! -Jada

Google
Chico Cantina never disappoints! The food is consistently delicious, the service is always exceptional and the ambience is great for the whole family! You can grab a seat at the bar and watch your favorite game or come and have a great meal with your friends or family. We went for brunch and sat on the patio with our eight-month old puppy. I had a shrimp quesadilla with cilantro rice. It was perfectly done. We also had tamales and my husband had delicious Barbacoa tacos. The guacamole is absolutely wonderful and the cheese dip is amazing! Their special today was a rich and filling chili with a kick and my husband loved it! Even though everything was absolutely top-notch, my favorite part of the meal was the fantastic crème brûlée! It had a few blackberries on top and the flavor and texture were exquisite! They have great cocktails as well! Our server, Madison, was very personable and it was nice to chat with her about our pups. The manager, Elena, stopped by several times to make sure everything was to our liking. We told her we had thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back!

Google
Tried Chico Cantina for the first time and was really impressed. My waitress was a darling. Started with the extra hot guacamole. For the main, I had the carne asada tacos, which were juicy, well-seasoned, and very satisfying. For dessert, I ordered the croissant bread pudding with ice cream, and it was definitely a standout. The combination of the warm croissant and cold ice cream was rich and delicious. I’ll definitely be coming back.

Google
The service, atmosphere and drink/beer selection were nice. Clean menus, table, silverware, etc...However, the food was not so good. The Barbacoa tacos were just huge lumps of fats, almost made my husband vomit. Pricey for what it was. In hindsight we should have sent his tacos back, but just wanted to finish what we could & get on with our day. Oh, and the ground beef taco is not really a ground beef taco. It's a hamburger patty taco, which wasn't bad, just not what I was expecting.

Yelp
Came here for the first time and was not disappointed. We had a reservation and got seated after a short wait. Things were moving slowly but our waitress apologized several times and explained that they were short staffed. Even with that, the wait wasn't too bad. It was a casual vibe with seating that ranged from booths, tables, high tops, bar seating, and a patio with additional seating. We started with the Guac and Chips and Salsa with Chips. The guacamole was delicious and tasted fresh. We got the lowest spicy level and there still was a kick, but very manageable. The salsa was a salsa verde, and a little too spicy for my taste. I do have a very low spice tolerance though so this may be laughable to your group! For the entrée I ordered a Chicken and Cheese Quesadilla and it was delicious. The serving size was great and there was a good ratio between the cheese, chicken, and tortilla. But I had to save the best for last. To drink I got a Strawberry Margarita on the rocks and it blew me away. This could very well be the best margarita I've ever had. It's located in the shopping center so there is ample parking and it's very easy to find. Would recommend!

Yelp
I came in on a Monday night and ordered takeout at the bar. I repeated my order several times since the bartender seemed confused. I was patient, but I specifically asked for sauce on the side and no cilantro on one of the dishes (I have that "cilantro tastes like soap" issue!). Not only was my order completely messed up, but the food just wasn't good. Maybe this is the kind of place that's better for dining in, but definitely not for takeout. Really disappointing. I won't be returning.

Yelp
Great spot in Town Brookhaven for delicious tacos (lots of choices) and watching sports! Found this place on Yelp. They also have a brunch menu/cocktails (Sat-Sun 10-4pm) and $5 happy hour specials (Mon-Fri 3-6pm) incl. margaritas, mimosas, and sangrias! Love the open space and all the natural lighting during the day. Service is very friendly too. I ordered two tacos which looked small but the fillings are generous to the point that it got quite messy to eat and with the corn tortillas, fell apart ... but they were delicious and worth it! Next time I may opt for the flour tortillas, lol. They do have all kind of tacos - and unique sauces ... salsa verde cruda, salsa aji amarillo, avocado ranch, salsa guajillo, salsa morita, and salsa verde! CRISPY SALMON TACO - $4.75 Fried battered fresh fish, corn (from the cob!), cabbage slaw, salsa verde cruda. Yummy! BEEF BARBACOA TACO - $4.75 Smoked beef brisket, pickled onions, salsa aji amarillo. Generous amount of meat - also yummy! My friend got the Breakfast Tacos ($14) which included 3 tacos w/ egg, chorizo, crispy potatoes, and salsa verde cruda ... except the crispy potatoes were missing. Our server was going to get them on the side but they never arrived ... guess the kitchen was busy. She still enjoyed the tacos. I'd definitely return - I'd like to try the Happy Hour specials. FYI they are located in the old Red Pepper Taqueria spot, just across from Publix.

Yelp
It's a good Mexican joint. The service was great and the staff were very nice. It's not the best place I have ever been to but I have never left not happy. I like the food and the drinks!! I would recommend

Yelp
Came here to watch the game. I sat at the bar and my bartender was great. I ordered a taco since the meat is cooked on the green egg. I was looking forward to alot of flavor but the meat was bland. I was really disappointed since it looks so good on social media. I may give them another try eventually.

Yelp
I dropped by on a Sunday afternoon and sat at the bar. I'm glad they renovated the previous bar a bit and updated the space a bit. I had a chicken tortilla soup, that was in a tomato broth. I also had 2 mango margaritas, which were delicious. My server was super accommodating and loved her energy. Looking forward to coming back for happy hour and official brunch.

Yelp
Met here this evening to celebrate 40 year high school reunion and my first experience eating here was outstanding. The service was very good and the tacos were delicious. I went with a barbacoa and a lamb taco. Both were excellent! My wife enjoyed some great nachos. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

Yelp
Since Red Pepper Taqueria closed, I've been very excited for Chico Cantina to open in its place! Service has been nice so far, and the ambiance is casual. While it's not an authentic Mexican restaurant, the flavors are great! You can tell a lot of love has gone into this. I have come in a couple times so far for dinner and have enjoyed the experience. I've had the chips and salsa, queso, guacamole, calamari, ceviche, a couple of the tacos (shrimp, and fish), a couple quesadillas (shrimp with all the fixings, and just cheese), Mexican rice (last time, I asked for the other rice option but I received the Mexican rice again as a mistake... it's yummy but I'd love to try the other next time), and pineapple bread pudding. Everything has been tasty. The margaritas are fantastic! Sadly, the first time we went, they were only doing on the rocks--not sure they've gotten their frozen machine up and running yet. I got the "condesa" which was perfectly spicy-sweet! Additionally, the last time we went, they were only serving house margs. Not sure what's going on with this, but I can't wait for their full menu to be up and running. For those who don't drink alcoholic they offer a nice big menu of mocktails that all sound yummy. Looking forward to returning to try more things.

Yelp
Food is very mid. Not sure how their cocktails are because I got a bud light. The chips were stale and the shrimp taco was just okay. My brother got the spicy chicken wrap and it was too spicy to enjoy. Not even the flavorful heat, it was the intolerable heat. Service was decent. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Their patio is dog friendly and heated for the winter.

Yelp
Excellent food and service! Great atmosphere! I have food allergies and very sensitive to spice but was able to enjoy everything I ordered! Will definitely be coming back.

ZaZa Z.

Yelp
The service and ambience is really good But the food is not it, no flavor, very mid. The queso is so thick and hard, the fajita meat and tacos were flavorless.

DC P.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! The food is bursting with FLAVOR! The chips were served hot and were not oily at all - and perfectly salted. The salsa verse was screamingly delicious. Very, very fresh. I am attaching pics of the salmon tacos and herbed rice. Both were phenomenal. The tacos had a little spicy heat but with the fresh corn (it was clearly cut fresh from the cob), cabbage salsa, and a verde on top, it was beautiful. Not pictured were the grilled shrimp tacos. I am sorry for being redundant but they were grilled perfectly and were as fresh as could be. Service was amazing and it didn't cost a lot for our dinner for two.

Yelp
Tried this place for the first time with my husband and loved it! Food was delicious: we got nachos appetizers, and for entrees the quesadilla and enchilada. The enchiladas in salsa verde were top. For dessert, the pineapple bread pudding was ridiculously good. They also had tasty mocktails. Samuel who runs the place came by to check on us periodically. Great service and lively ambience to complete the experience. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Dennise is amazing would love to see her everyday. Amazing service and great personality.

Yelp
The bartenders are the best!! Food was great. Servers/bartenders are attentive. Management was also present and very attentive. Atmosphere was fun and inviting. I'll definitely Frequent this new place!

Kip C.

Yelp
Great service from Madison who explained the menu is Mexican fusion, not traditional Tex-Mex. She was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. Made great recommendations. Food was terrific! We opted for tacos, which were delicious and creative. Loved the lamb tacos! Sat outdoors on their porch, which we enjoyed.

TY G.

Yelp
Great menu variety. Oysters were fresh, large, and delicious. Good choice of margaritas and flavors. Beer choice good and cold. Service was superb. Meats are grilled on the patio -lots of good seasoning and flavor! Patio and inside have great large TVs for viewing sports. Patio is covered, open on sides, and has many ceiling fans to circulate air.

Jake O.

Yelp
Have been here a few times now and really can't recommend this place enough. Always great food, and their drinks are fantastic (highly recommend the frozen pineapple margarita or even the frosé, but honestly everything I've tried has all been really good). I've only arrived in time for the "$5 happy hour" once, but it was fun to be able to sample a bunch of their appetizers without breaking the bank. Finally, the staff have always been incredibly friendly, and we recently had a chance to chat with one of the wonderful managers, Maria, who mentioned some of the fun events they're planning on doing. Already looking forward to going again.

Ronard B.

Yelp
Denise was amazing. I had a couple of oysters during happy hour and a margarita and the service and food were superb

James C.

Yelp
Quality food. Nice change of flavor from typical Atlanta Mex food. Fajita skillet is something to go back for with perfectly grilled veggies packed into a small skillet with a seasoned sliced chicken breast topping it. Chicken was moist, plump and flavorful. Very nice salsas and guac made on site everyday per our service person.

Paul G.

Yelp
Food was solid. Good atmosphere. They will work out the kinks with the service and should be successful.

Hailey W.

Yelp
Good vibes and good food! Service was good and the $5 happy hour margarita was AMAZING! Will be coming back. Enchiladas were good too!

Jean D.

Yelp
We tried Chico Cantina for the first time and loved everything about it. The shrimp and smoked pork tacos were delicious, as were the margaritas. And the staff were topnotch, especially our server Sahaanaa.
