LA Streets Where You Can Walk, Eat, & Shop

"Olvera Street has plenty of forgettable tortilla chips and margs. But if you want to end an afternoon of trinket shopping with a really good, sit-down Mexican meal, head to Chiguacle. This cantina specializes in low-and-slow dishes from southern Mexico, like zingy cochinita pibil and Mayan-style lamb with nopales and smoky dried chilies." - nikko duren, brant cox, sylvio martins

9 Great LA Spots for Vibrant, Colorful Yucatecan Food

"Located a stone’s throw away from Downtown’s Union Station, Chiguacle Sabor Ancestral de Mexico (or Chiguacle for simplicity’s sake) is LA’s answer to a traditional Mexican cantina with its excellent bar and varied menu of southern Mexican specialties. Besides its delicious cochinita pibil, Chiguacle serves a wonderful mixiote de borrego, slow-cooked lamb in a thick marinade made from Yucatecan staples like allspice, oregano, chiles, annatto, and garlic. The creamy sauce burns low and slow and straddles heat, sweetness, and a savory smokiness. The whole dish is enjoyed with handmade tortillas that have nopales mixed into the masa." - Sylvio Martins

Delicious food and friendly servers! The indoor décor is beautiful and there is a lively atmosphere. A little pricey for the portion sizes but nonetheless loved the experience.

It's a bar that happens to serve great food. Good music. Good service. I had the Ceviche de Pescado. Really wonderful flavors with all the ingredients in bite size cubes. It comes with 3 flat fried tortillas. Perfect for breaking off and scooping the ceviche into your mouth. For $14 I got more ceviche than I could eat at one sitting - I took the rest home.

We had relatives in town and decided to check this restaurant in Olvera Plaza. Location has a dual setting - out/& inside dining with a full bar. Decor reflects an original flair of the foundation of the area. Staff are very warm, friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. Elizabeth(waitress) make you feel like family. I had a dish with steak, chicken, and shrimp sauteed with a great selection of bellpepers. Sad to say the chicken was a bit dry and tasted old with a hint of been spoiled. My family enjoyed all their dinner selection. Make sure to get the salsa, chips and guacamole as an appetizer.

If you wanna be wowed 🤩with some good pre-hispanic Mexican food 🥘 then is the spot! This restaurant really lives up to the plaza olvera name and taste 👅. I wish I could’ve put this review around the time I went but making it as detailed possible 🥰 Think about sabores “flavor” when you order. The servers are very savvy and helpful with their recommendations. Also, the drinks are mind blowing 🤤 Our drinks had mezcal and Marco hooked it up with some amazing sweet, spicy tart and fruity drinks. I would die for these drinks anytime 😬. Good Mexican mixologist. I love the fact that the food and the ambiance is a perfect combination for the experience and taste of Mexico 🇲🇽 👍 Let me tell you it’s a good idea to call in on weekend evenings before visiting because they close if there’s not enough patrons. Follow for more great LA experiences. Street parking or across the restaurant is a parking lot READ THE SIGNS

Very nice decor and ambiance. We sat in the patio but the inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and cozy. It's located in the placita Olvera so there's something to do before or after you eat. I had the fish ceviche tostada and the aguachile tostada, which were both very filling and delicious. My guest had the fried fish taco, the Mazatlan taco and and the fried shrimp taco and she loved all of them. The Horchata tasted like the Salvadoran horchata, which had more if a chocolate flavor as opposed to the cinnamon taste that Mexican horchata tends to have. I'll be back and I recommend that you try it too! Oh.... and they have a full bar! 👍

The server checked our covid card and ID, then it took awhile for her to finally come back to get order. Really didn't see much to authentic to eat but we did get chips and salsa but it wasn't all that. Place is a bit high priced.

After we ate there, I just noticed that they are owned by the same people who owned the best Mole place in the valley. Because their original sun valley location hasn’t restored since the arson, this is now the best place to try out more moles. We had the greatest service in spite the fact we stopped by 30 Min before the closing time on Sunday (their busy day). Even though they are in the very touristy area, the food is very solid and fresh. They are not counting on the one timers but repeating Angelino customers. We shall come back for more glorious mole of theirs. Congratulations for the new ventures!

Server was rude and gave us an attitude. Restaurant was freezing cold, so the food get cold fast. The portions are soooo small, and not consistent. One tacos was packed with meat, the other was empty. Since there was 11 of us total the server gave herself a 30% tip. 😡 don't waste your time or money.

Yelp
I would give it zero stars, but my wife enjoyed her cocktail. While I on the other hand, got blatantly ignored by the servers . I was the only person in the restaurant of Caucasian ethnicity, and the servers blatantly ignored me until the bill came for my wife's drink. Wouldn't recommend to anyone not of Lantin American ethnicity.
