D.C. Favorite Chiko Opens a Chinese-Korean Counter in Bethesda - Eater DC

"Bethesda just got an exciting new option for spicy beef noodle soup, “shrimp and toast,” and pork kimchi potstickers with the arrival of Chiko, a casual Chinese-Korean counter that’s won a lot of local recognition in D.C. Chiko’s fourth location to date — and first in Maryland — replaces chef Michael Schlow’s fast-casual Italian place, Prima. Fried Rice Collective founders Danny Lee, Scott Drewno, and Drew Kim debuted the brand on Capitol Hill in 2017, followed by subsequent outposts in Encinitas, California, and Dupont Circle. Chiko Bethesda (7280 Woodmont Avenue) operates from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with takeout and delivery to start. The opening menu includes dishes like “orange-ish” chicken and bulgogi or cumin lamb stir fry. An abundant gluten-free section includes double-fried chicken wings, smoked brisket and rice cakes, and hot smoked blue catfish with cured egg yolk and bonito flake." - Tierney Plumb

Google
Ordered via Door Dash so no idea about service or atmosphere but the food was delicious! I ordered veggie dumplings and sweet potato noodles (Garden noodles) w shrimp and enjoyed both! Cute packaging made it easy to find on a hotel lobby desk.

Google
Delicious! A gem located right in the mix of Bethesda Row. Great portion sizes for sharing or enjoying a quiet meal for 1. Everything comes out so quickly. You can taste the quality ingredients along with bold, fresh flavors. A few recommendations would be the; Cumin Lamb Stir fry which was out of this world. The lamb was tender and seasoned perfectly. The Orange-ish Chicken and the avocado salad. While we missed the dumpling Happy hour we were able to try the vegetable dumplings which also did not disappoint.

Google
The service was prompt and efficient. We ordered the smashed salmon, Korean noodles, bulgogi beef dumplings. Unfortunately, everything was swimming in huge amounts of oil! The salmon also tasted old. It was the most disgusting thing I’ve ever tasted. Needless to say, we crossed this place off our list for good!

Google
Pre-ordered two sets from their four course meals. It locates at the corner of two busy streets, so could not find any street parking. There is a public parking garage one block to the west. Arrived after half hours of promised time. Upon walk-in, saw a line of bags with tags on the shelves to the right hand side. The dining area was about half seated. Nobody talked to me for five or so minutes, so I had to get attention from a staff behind the counter off the kitchen area. Overall, we felt these being over-priced. The portion of kimchi and cucumber was great given as appetizers. Two small dishes as entree were not enough for a meal. The spring rolls were over fried so too hard and too dry to bite. The orange-ish chicken was also very dry. The soy glazed brisket only had three strips but with an egg. The desserts were in thin layers. Had to get more food elsewhere to finish our dinner.

Google
We tried the veg dumplings at this place once and the we tried again , these are the most exquisite dumpling in the DMV region. I also tried the wheat noodles this time and they didn’t disappoint. This place offers awesome vegetarian selection and if you like the Asian delicacies this is a must go destination.

Google
I'm really impressed with the food and service, it's not very busy ever when I go so I really hope my review and photo helps bring foot traffic. Their shrimp entree, bulgogi and Salmon entree is fantastic.

Absolutely delicious. We ordered the fried rice with shrimp..lamb noodles and wings. Its a very DIY restaurant though in terms of service but the food came out quickly

Yelp
Place is a schmedium size. It's a simple falling in line and ordering and they will bring the food to you type of sitch. Place was kept clean and orderly. We ordered the Bulgogi Tots and Soy Glazed Brisket. The tots was a bit too cheesy that it was really filling. The brisket was on point! Not my favorite place, but I would recommend for you to try if you have not tried yet.

Yelp
Quiet disappointed with my visit to Chiko. For the price, I was expecting higher quality and service. I decided to go with the lunchbox. I got a pork and kimichi potsticker and fried rice. The potstickers are massive, it's literally a ball of meat wrapped in dumpling. The taste was okay, nothing crazy. Definitely didn't get much kimichi at all. The house rice was honestly tasteless. The shrimp on top was good i guess, but the meal was bland. Also it's pretty much just peas no other vegetables in it. I wasn't greeted when I entered. Wasn't told anything when I left, other than being stared down by workers. I didn't even receive utensils in the bag. Would I come here again? NOPE.

Yelp
The orangish chicken was delicious, and the vibes were immaculate with friendly staff!

Yelp
The Korean Garden noodles are bursting with flavor with slurpy sweet potato glass noodles and a heap of fresh veggies - shiitake mushrooms, squash, sugar peas, onions, green onions). The noodles are served pipping hot in metal bowels and a tad bit greasy. Wish the menu listed an option to add crispy tofu for an upcharge. The tofu is quite good and forgot to ask for it. I enjoyed the Korean Garden Noodles at Chiko more than bland Singapore noodles with burnt tofu than Hawkers. The red sangria was okay, I enjoyed the fresh lychee, but preferred to have more fresh juice to balance out the sangria. While there's a heap of hearty meaty dishes on the menu, wIsh there were more vegetarian dishes on the menu! I appreciate that the lunch menu is offered on the weekends with slightly smaller portions and cheaper prices. We got our food within 15 min of ordering, while some of the tables were waiting for some time. The Chiko Bethesda location is densely packed with a handful of small tables. It was a bit of a challenge to fit 2 strollers, but we managed it and people were patient with luckily no gripes. Will add to our Bethesda rotation and come back when we're in the area!

Yelp
So this place isn't fancy in any way, but the food is absolutely solid. Portions are heavy, flavor is there and relatively quick service. I will be back. Dumplings will be ordered again and I will pass on the orange ish chicken just for something lighter. I'm not usually a fried fan.
google avatar

Yelp
Overall- fast, delicious, and lots of yummy options! The cumin lamb, XO shrimp lo mein, and blistered green beans were all fabulous! The dumplings were okay and the kids noodles were a waste of money. The food is delicious, complex, and fun especially for being a cast-casual restaurant. There were tons of great options on the menu, fun drinks, and a dumpling happy hour. The prices are a little more than expected for the serving sizes and the fact that you don't have a server. They do bus the tables though.

Yelp
Chiko never disappoints. The bulgogi stir fry is downright spectacular, and the firecracker shrimp springroll is probably the best take on the spring rol I've ever had. They get seriously deep flavor in all their dishes. Great for take out, delivery, or a casual dine in.

Yelp
I was very impressed with Chiko. We ordered takeaway a couple nights ago. The portion sizes were great, especially the cumin lamb noodles. I would get food from here again. The staff is very friendly. The brussel sprouts were fantastic as were the dumplings.
google avatar

Brittney W.

Yelp
I stopped by got a lunch special. My food was ready on time and the ladies were so sweet. The brussel sprouts were nothing exciting but the noodles were GREAT! I wish I had ordered more. When I tasted the shrimp dumplings, there seemed to be a meat texture that was a bit surprising. As a pescatarian I was a bit concerned so I called and the ladies said I it should not contain any meat. To be safe I did not finish them and would not order them again. Based on the reviews I expected a bit more but that's ok. I was happy to try them out
google avatar

Randy L.

Yelp
I think the highlight of CHIKO is their cumin lab stir fry, which was the best tasting dish out of what we ordered. It's a nice place to try, and it is filling as well despite how "small" the portions may look. The dumplings were just okay, but I might have to come back to try their dumpling happy hour. The spicy bulgogi stir fry was not spicy at all and felt lacking overall.

Yelp
We went to this wonderful place around 6 PM on a Saturday. It was filled to the brim with people and we wanted to know why. We definitely found out, because the food was delicious and the atmosphere had a wonderful free spirit vibe! I'm sorry I don't have a picture of my food double fried chicken, but it was so delicious that I ate it! If you haven't gone to this place in Downtown Bethesda, and you want some delicious Korean fusion food... stop reading this review and head over there right now!

Yelp
Overall, very filling and tasty. Would come back again. I got the chicken and rice dish and you definitely should come hungry because it's a lot of food. There's a mix of textures and flavors in the bowl which make it tasty, but because there was so much volume, I quickly grew tired of the taste. I feel this meal would have benefitted from some pickled appetizers to help break up the taste.

Yelp
"Chiko" meaning Chinese and Korean and let me just say, it's okay. We got the cumin lamb stir fry and soy glazed brisket, both of which were $19.00 and not with it especially for lunch sized portions. I wouldn't come back but I'm sure it was bad timing. Both dishes were okay but there was hair in the cumin lamb so when they took it back, the second one had no cumin flavor it in. Super bummed but nothing against the workers. Just wouldn't spend $41 here.

Yelp
A friend and I got take out from this spot. I ordered the lunch box with veggie dumpling and noodles. Food was great but a bit pricey. Definitely recommend though if you are in the area. Panda theme is also super cute!

Yelp
Prior to my first visit to Chiko, I was not a fan of fusion type restaurants. I wanted my ethnic food to be pure and not watered down to what chefs purport to be "fusion" of different much loved staples. Well, dear Yelpers, that kind of thinking was blown right out of the water. I went to the Bethesda Chikos right after a hard Pilates class and was famished and the regular juice lunch that my soon to be svelte self should have gotten was not going to cut it. I ordered their 3 dim sum offering for $22. I had the Dan dan noodles, potato pancake and lamb dumpling. So much flavor in every dish and the portions were so generous that even the glutton that I am could not finish it and had enough leftovers for my next meal. Each dish was nicely spice but yet the spice profile of each dish was distinctly different. And my fave was the crunchy diced fried garlic that was generously strewn on top of the dan dan noodles. As of today, because of my excellent meal at Chikos, I am no longer a fusion snob. I will be more open minded to the ethnic pairings of my favorite dishes. Who knew Korean and Chinese were such a good match. Now, if only the two countries can get along, it would be epic!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious food with great service. I got the lamb cumin and it was tasty and full of flavor and spicy--but not in the burning way. My mom got the shrimp lo mein, which I echo that was also full of flavor--more than I'm used to which is a compliment. The service was also super nice to let us eat in the space even though they were closing soon--and they were very attentive. My only complaint is that it's super expensive. It's confusing that it's like a fast food restaurant...but the prices are pretty high, like sit-down restaurant high. You can get similar meals elsewhere...granted MAYBE with not as much flavor, for significantly less. That's why it's 4/5 for me.

Yelp
Amazing - the shrimp noodles with XO sauce, Brussels sprouts and orange chicken are always top notch!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing service! The food is a fusion between Chinese and Korean and the options were wonderful for someone trying to eat less meat. I ordered the crab cake and the tofu bibimbap which was so delicious and fresh.
google avatar

Tyler C.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Hot and spicy Chinese Korean fusion. Loved the stir fried spicy rice cakes! The high tech menu, payment done from your table worked. There was enough food for two people in a single order. People rave about the orange-ish chicken (I'll be back!) this is more than a one pony show. Korean sparkling rice wine that you drink from a metal bowl had fine sparkly bubbles. While rice wine may seem like a paradox, or like ordering a veggie burger (is that from a veggie cow?) they have rice wine, beer and teas. While the restaurant itself isn't as fancy as the food, and the space is open, focus on the food. I was given chopsticks, a fork and a spoon and could choose how to consume the food. Enjoy!

Yelp
Yummm! I can here with my mom and sister to grab a light lunch and was blown away by the flavor and quality of our meal. We had potentially, the best pot stickers, dumplings and Dan Dan noodles I've ever had. I mean, the meal was absolutely delicious! We had already eaten a large breakfast and had dinner plans, so we ended to splitting an order of the Dim Sum. It was the perfect portion for the three of us. We were able to pick 3 items from a list and each one of them was unique and kept us wanting more. We enjoyed the Dan Dan noodles, lamb dumplings and pork and kimchi potstickers. I forgot to take a picture of the pot stickers, since they came out after the rest of the food, but they deserve recognition just like the rest. Take my word for it, this place is delicious and you should give them a try.

Yelp
The experience was pretty much what you would expect from an American restaurant. I ordered the soy glazed brisket. The food came out pretty quickly and was a bit of a let down since it was precooked. It wasn't the best but still... the meat was quite dry and covered with a thick, very salty soy glaze. The marinated egg was surprisingly good, perfectly cooked with a gooey center. I would say it was probably the best part. Other than that, you're paying for a large scoop of rice.
google avatar

Meridena K.

Yelp
Excellent! Casual atmosphere, walk up counter to order then food delivered to table. To go containers available as needed. Bummer they were out of Korean beer... food was delicious. All fresh. Full Monty-a bit of all the sides, totally worth it to try & take home what you don't finish. Fun to try a few unique things like the eggs with roe. Pickled daikon was really good! Soy glazed brisket & pot stickers were excellent. I think it was about $70 for brisket, pot stickers, full Monty & a beer including tip.

Yelp
Good food and service. My friend and I really enjoyed our meal. Thank you team Chiko!

Yelp
What's the most delicious thing that's been in your mouth lately⁉ I'll tell you mine, if you tell me yours. Food Review: CHIKO (Chinese/Korean) We ordered the Lamb Stir-fry which came with long juicy noodles in a savory delicious sauce of perfection. The dish was truly mind-blowing, unlike anything I've had, normally lamb is not an option. True magic lives in the hands of the cook. The portion size was really good. It was a little more pricey than your average takeout prices but they used quality meat, noodles & vegetables. A decent amount of the dish was provided and not just filler vegetables to stretch the dish. CHIKO is also known for Dim Sum Brunch on the weekends. That's still on our "to do list." I'm really excited about the tasty and delectable options offered. As soon as I try it, I'll report back. Tell me, what magical places will you visit this Summer What tasty food will you eat? What beautiful people will you meet?! Just remember, travel often, live and eat deliciously.

Li D.

Yelp
Food is excellent. Have never eaten in the restaurant. Only done take out. A little inconvenient due to its location (very busy intersection in Bethesda), But food is worth it.

Yelp
When I heard that one of Tom Sietsema's top restaurants from 2017 was coming to Bethesda, I was pretty excited since I don't often get to go to DC for dinner. The menu isn't long, but everything on there seems fun and seems like a mashup of ideas. We ordered the spicy bulgogi with rice cakes, the lamb noodles, and the shrimp toast for takeout tonight and everything blew us away! The rice cakes with the bulgogi are chewy and thick, the bulgogi is wonderfully flavored (although a little on the sweeter side). The spice lamb noodles remind me of the Chinese dishes that my family love and the noodles are perfectly chewy. The shrimp toast, unlike the Hong Kong styled ones I've had, has a very south East Asian twist on it! It comes with long beans, thai basil, and a deliciously spiced, broth-like sauce. The portions of all the dishes are pretty good for takeout and it looks like they've reopened for indoor and outdoor dining as well! The flavors here surely pack a punch and remind me of an elevated version of all the Korean, Chinese, and Thai flavors that I've been eating for years. I know they have a weekend dim sum menu that I absolutely cannot wait to return to try.
google avatar

Stuart M.

Yelp
We tried the cumin lamb stir fry. Despite cumin being a principle ingredient in curry, you would not confuse this for an Indian styled dish. It owned a Korean flavor. The noodles were soft, and the heat was a little greater than I would have chosen. I don't know if the heat level can be adjusted, since the order is done on line, and you can't discuss it verbally with anyone. Our second dish was the vegetable rice bowl, which had a nice taste, and an ample assortment of vegetables. We enjoyed the meal, and we'll be back.
google avatar

Yelp
After visiting the Capitol Hill location a couple of years ago, I excitedly gave the Bethesda location a try. I was *not* disappointed. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, dine-in customers scan a QR code, order their food and close out their tabs right from their phones. The food comes out quickly and is piping hot and delicious. I had the house fried rice, which was incredibly flavorful, and my dining partner had the bulgogi hoagie and raved about it! I was also impressed by how hot the food is kept. I could only eat half of my entree, and when I spooned the extra fried rice into the takeout container, it was still steaming. If you're looking for a cool Korean/Chinese restaurant, I highly recommend visiting Chiko!
google avatar

Connie H.

Yelp
Everything I've had here so far has been so good in the sense that's there's so much flavor in the dishes. I wasn't expecting a lot since it's a fast causal restaurant but it's food quality and taste is way below my expectations
google avatar

Marc R.

Yelp
I kind of miss the wagshal's chopped brisket recipe from the OG spot on Capitol Hill the egg was more yolky plus the Furikake butter was on point. This soy glazed brisket would only come in at second place to the latter. The crispy shrimp was fire though.
google avatar

Erica L.

Yelp
I so wanted to love this place. The staff is very friendly, the menu looks good, and I also came famished. But, this location was just as disappointing as the foggy bottom/DuPont location. The main problem was that it was overwhelmingly salty, so much though that none of us were able to eat the food. We had to take it home and add a ton of rice before we could eat it. We tried the house fried rice and the cumin lamb stir fry. The lamb was a tad on the fatty side, the noodles were nice and chewy, and the whole dish was a tad oily. The flavors of the fried rice were strong except for the high salt content. I just don't think I could give it another try.
google avatar

Paul J.

Yelp
Another visit to Chiko, but this time we ate in. As expected, the food was tasty, a little spicy, and filling. The highlight of this meal was the half-a-cado salad, crisp and bright, and the shrimp fried rice with an added boiled egg, which was perfectly cooked, with a creamy, runny yolk that added a totally new dimension to the dish. If you haven't tried Chiko, what are you waiting for? This place is great.
google avatar

Yelp
The food is simply portioned, the staff is very courteous, and the seasoning is awesome. Will definitely recommend for a quick stop and amazing flavors. When they say double fried and crispy, the wings are super crispy. Ambience is cool with playing modern pop and hip-hop music. And plus...there's alcohol!
google avatar

Sabrina P.

Yelp
First time trying a Chinese-Korean fusion spot and was pleasantly surprised! This is a great lunch option with plenty to choose from the menu. We tried a bunch of different menu items and each one had its unique flair to it. My top 3 would have to be the crispy chicken wings, green beans, and smashed salmon! Tons of great flavors and were deliciousss. Would definitely recommend these items. The other dishes that I tried were stir fry cumin lamb noodle, spicy bulgogi, and chicken spring rolls. While they were still flavorful, I probably wouldn't get again because it wasn't too memorable for me. Service was quick and waiter was attentive!
google avatar

Zainub Q.

Yelp
Always incredible the food is so good and hits the spot EVERYTIME. I have only ever gone for dinner, so I was scared their lunch portion would be small however, I was very satisfied with the amount of food that I received. Perfect spot for a quick lunch and their dumpling happy hour never disappoints!
google avatar

Yelp
Strong American influence on classic Asian fare. The menu lured me in by its Dimsum Brunch along with Korean classics. The short & sweet: huge variety for a wide range of flavors at a fair price. My brunch= Confit Duck Springrolls- one of the best springrolls I've had. Loaded with duck meat, slight natural sweetness thanks to carrots, and great pair with duck sauce (obviously). Cumin Lamb Dumplings- moist and rich. Great Sichuan-based soup, though not as spicy as traditional Sichuan flavors. Highly recommended for anyone's mid afternoon meal. Korean Fried Wings- advertised with a soy glaze, but to me it tasted like a General Tso sauce. The wings are crispy, so perhaps I should have gone with the dry rub. This dish was a miss for me. Bulgolgi Hoagie- very generous with the beef and cheese portions. The cheese overwhelmed any bulgolgi flavor, so the balance was slightly off in my palate. Overall this hoagie became a Philly Cheesesteak with minor Korean influence. I enjoyed my takeout from here and looking forward to future creations!

Yelp
I'm a bit conflicted on giving 3 or 4 stars. It's kind of solidly a 3.5 for me after the first time I went there for lunch with a co-worker. You're kind of left to your own devices in figuring out how the menu or process works whether you're dining in or out. We stood there confused while the person working there just looked at us then continued doing whatever he was doing until we went up and asked. I got the bugolgi bowl. Portion was great. I like the idea of the ingredients that they built into the entree but the meat was just too salty. The flavor otherwise was good but the saltiness was just too much and I had to drink quite a bit of my coke to wash it down and then was really thirsty later. It might be a one off given how highly rated Chiko seems so I'll likely come back to try again sometime. I like the idea of the place where the bowl is tasty and filling with some veggies so I can pretend I'm being healthy but will need it to be a bit less salty or have a much bigger drink.
google avatar

Yelp
I orderered the cumin lamb stir fry, and it was extremely filling and delicious! When it first came out, the bowl looked small, but there is SO much food and meat packed in there! I was pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. It is on the pricier side (my entree costed a little over $20), and I don't know if I'd pay that much for this again. But overall, it was tasty and incredibly well seasoned. The restaurant itself was not too busy.

Yelp
Chiko is fairly new to the Bethesda area so my wife and I decided to give it a shot tonight. We ended up ordering three dishes off the dinner menu and one appetizer. Our meal included: Smashed Salmon Cumin Lamb Stir Fry Orange-ish Chicken Shrimp & Toast The first thing I noticed was the carryout food is served in tall soup containers which makes eating noodles and rice a little difficult. We ended up walking over to another restaurant and asking for carryout bowls to transfer the food over (see picture). The first bite was the shrimp & toast and I have to say it was hands down one of the best appetizer choices I've ever ordered. Before we even got to our main dishes we were questioning why we didn't get more of this appetizer. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the sauce they use on it is simply delicious. Three different meats and everything was cooked perfectly. The chicken had a crisp and crunch to it, the lamb was soft and tender, and the salmon was super moist. Whoever the chef is over at Chiko knows how to cook for sure. We also got a variety of sauces and a few of them were tongue-numbing so spice lovers rejoice. Despite how good the food there was plenty of leftovers, in fact I would safely say each entree can be split by two people. Hours later I'm still full with another portion of leftovers for tomorrow. I cannot wait to get back here and try the entire menu. This place is going to crush the restaurant scene!

Ellen K.

Yelp
Really torn on my rating. On one hand the customer service was super friendly and excellent from the waiter who brought our food. And the food exploded in flavor. Unfortunately I felt like I consumed about half a cup of oil and very likely did. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was sitting in a pool of oil. They could still maintain the yumminess while severely cutting back the oil. My heart is clogging as I think of the experience....

Yelp
I came here with a few friends and my boyfriend to try out the Asian fusion food because it seemed interesting. The menu sounded delicious! If I were to come back I would recommend sticking to the main courses and skipping all the "snacks" you can get. I love eating Korean and Chinese food but I was very confused that we had to pay for the banchan, which are labeled as snacks at this establishment, because they're generally free at every Korean establishment I've been to. But my group and I came to the conclusion that they were not worth the price for them. However the shrimp toast, soy glazed brisket, and crab Rangoon were definitely good. My friends said the cold noodles were also good, I did not try this dish due to allergies. We also tried the orange-ish chicken, and I would say that is a dish to skip as well. If I'm craving some nice different flavors I may come back, but at the moment I don't think it was worth the price.

Yelp
The house fried rice with shrimp was tasty (if on the oily side), but the soy glazed brisket was AWFUL. How they can get away with even calling this brisket I have no idea. The meat comes in tough little red cubes, jerky-like, some of which were gristly. The duck confit bibimbap was also disappointing: a small amount of dry duck.

Yelp
Had a quick and delicious lunch with my bf here the other day! It was pretty packed even at 2 PM. They had a good amount of vegetarian options. I got the lunch combo with the veggie noodles and brussel sprouts! Everything was super flavorful!

Yelp
The foods are pretty good! We got dry rub wings, brisket, lamb stir fry, and orange-ish chicken. The wings was crispy and the lamb stir fry noodle was super flavorful. The brisket reminded me of Chinese mince meat dish but a nice spin on it. The only thing from keeping me giving a 5 star was the orange-ish chicken. Chicken was crispy but the sauce lack citrus taste. Overall the foods was amazing but the price is a bit high.

Yelp
This initially was going to be a negative review but the staff at this location was fantastic. The two women working behind the register/servers were attentive and friendly. Our food and drinks came out promptly and it was delicious. My only issue was that my bulgolgi came with a scarce amount of beef. I was disappointed by the portion since it was $18 and let the staff know. I've worked in the restaurant industry so I know it wasn't their fault. Immediately, she apologized and quickly got me an extra side of bulgolgi. I hate being a guest that complains but they were extremely understanding and kind. The service couldn't have been better and completely flipped my mood. Thank you to the two girls working Thursday night, you gave excellent service and created a positive experience!

Yelp
Loved the house fried rice...the fried shrimp in it is absolutely delicious and I would return just to get this dish... the veggie dumplings were amazing also! Didn't love the cumin lamb noodles and the lamb dumplings. The cumin lamb is sweet and not spicy and cumin forward like you would expect in the traditional Szechuan dish ...but the noodles were good. The food is definitely greasy and on the heavy side but a great cheat day option if you live in the area.

Yelp
We were staying in Bethesda recently and we stumbled upon Chiko because we saw a guy carrying the bag up in the same elevator. We asked him if he had tried it before and he said he was actually dropping it off to a room for grub hub, but that it was one of his favorite places. Towards the end of our trip to DC, we were exhausted after 4 days of walking so we came back to the hotel early and decided to order delivery for our meal. I don't recall what my husband got but the Grub Hub guy said to get the fried rice so that's exactly what I did. Holy moly! Maybe this sounds a little too dramatic, but this was probably the best shrimp fried rice I have EVER had. It had so much flavor bursting in every bite. There were tiny bit of diced zucchini (never have seen that in fried rice) chopped herbs, and just a generous portion of egg. The shrimp was breaded and fried and they probably used way more oil or butter than anyone should ever eat in one sitting, but again, the flavor was so incredible. The prices were reasonable considering that one order could easily feed two people. I had leftovers for the next day and was able to warm it up in our hotel room. I would highly recommend if you're ever in the area and for sure get the fried rice!

Yelp
I knew this place was pretty popular/talked about in the DMV area, so I went for dinner with a few friends. The service system is incredibly efficient, they just keep an open tab for you and all orders can be made from your phone at your table. The staff were kind and informative, and made sure we knew this information. They also have a vegetarian menu, so that is a plus for anyone with dietary restrictions. The food however was just average. The bulgogi with stir-fry was good but you definitely should order a side of rice with it. The braised brisket was not really how I imagined it, it was really soft or brisket-y, just tasted like soy and not much depth of flavor. They also gave a ton of rice with this dish, so overall the amount of rice (or the lack there of) that was served did not make sense. All side dishes you need to order separate, such as the turmeric radish or kimchi. The radish was not vinegary enough, so wasn't all that palate cleansing. This was kind of a surprise, but not really a surprise- traditionally, korean places give you sides as service/free because it is a given with a meal. However, considering that this is a korean American restaurant, I wasn't too surprised but they were a bit over priced tbh. Would I be back? Maybe just to try their fried chicken, it smelled really good from the table next to us!
