Yelp
A small restaurant with charm! I had stopped by DASH a couple times before and wanted to come here for Thai food, and I finally made the visit. My boyfriend and I are still living in the past, when we were visiting Thailand. We were initially thinking of going to our usual place, but I remembered this place and came.
There are no more than seven tables in the restaurant, so it's quite small, but most of its customers are takeout, so I don't think seating would ever be a problem.
The food was actually pretty good. We ordered Duck Curry, Pad Thai, and Tom Yum Noodle Soup, both with shrimp, and lastly, Chim! Crispy Chicken. Every one of them was delicious and no disappointment. I really liked the Tom Yum Noodle Soup. The soup has a nice blend of spices, and the balance is perfect but different from other Tom Yum soups I've tried elsewhere. Pad Thai was really good. The fact that it was close to yellow and not orange-red assured me before I even tasted it. The color resembled Pad Thai from Thip Samai in Bangkok, and it had a very similar taste. I think Chim has one of the best Pad Thais, at least in the Los Angeles area.
The Chim! Crispy Chicken was crunchy and meaty, and the sauce was tangy and complementary. Duck curry was a bit sweet for me, but it was savory with a generous amount of duck meat. I almost broke my tooth because there was a small piece of hard bone in my curry. That was no fun.
Another concern I have for this restaurant is that there is no restroom. I thought, by law, you got to have a restroom for each gender IF you are selling alcohol. My boyfriend had to walk in the rain and go across the street to look for a restaurant. I still don't understand how a restaurant can operate without a restroom, especially when selling alcohol. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I have to look into this.
All in all, the food was really satisfying, but the hard bones in my food, the lack of restrooms, and also the lack of customer service leave me with a three-star review for Chim!
