The food here is great! I visited this restaurant about two weeks ago and have been back three additional times. The hot and spicy chicken is wonderful and the egg rolls are delicious also. I visited the lunch line as well and tasted the salt and pepper shrimp. The staff there is friendly. Oh I can't forget to say the sweet lemon ice tea is very tasty too.

Google
I would give this one star if I could. We ordered a sesame chicken dinner, a small order of house, fried rice and a small order of chicken lo mein. Total of $34. The chicken in the dinner was stringy and overcooked. The fried rice was colored brown, but had zero flavor to it and was in big clumps. The lo mein tasted like it was cooked in chicken broth. Other than that, it had no seasoning and the noodles were mushy. I don’t understand the four star reviews because the food was terrible and a waste of money. We were also there at 6 o’clock on a Friday night and there was nobody else in the restaurant.

Google
The Food is horrible and they are very expensive The Rice was Hard the Shrimp are pre breaded and the portion was no worth $18 a plate

Google
We were pleasantly surprised that this is where our favorite Chinese place that was dislocated from the flood, join forces with their family and started working there. This food is amazing, we've been looking for these people for 4 years now LOL they're polite and this place is very clean. Go check them out everything is delicious. They even have duck egg rolls!!

Maren McSparin

Google
We ordered crab rangoons and then the fried rice and egg roll with sweet and sour chicken and then hot & spicy chicken (shown in picture). It was all really great food! We picked up our food right as it came out so it was still really hot and fresh when we got home! The fried rice with the pork was good. The sweet and sour chicken was standard, but good! And the hot & spicy chicken wasn’t too spicy, it was fairly sweet, and it wasn’t fried. Overall, very good although not exactly what I expected! The egg rolls and crab rangoon were spot on. Excited to come back!

Google
This is truly a fantastic place to dine. The taste of all the dishes is exceptional, and the owners of the restaurant are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is clean and cozy, creating a delightful atmosphere. I really enjoy being here.

Miranda W.F.

Google
Atmosphere is absolutely fine for Chinese take out- so does not really apply. The place seemed clean and the staff was friendly. The lo mein, happy family and beef with peppers was delish. My family tore it up and enjoyed every bite ! We will be back !

Faye S.

Google
Hot yummy food! Honey chicken and sesame chicken are both very good! Friendly service and didn’t take long at all
google avatar

Erica S.

Yelp
I love they have a quick hot line daily. The parking is atrocious though. Best wonton soup I have ever had! Tastes like homemade noodles to me. They're HUGE! I'm going back once a week just for that!

Darlene R.

Yelp
This is a very good takeout Chinese restaurant. Their shrimp and broccoli is delicious. They serve very large shrimp in it. My grandson had the chicken and broccoli, and said he was glad he ordered it.

Warner S.

Yelp
This place was exactly what you would expect in from a simple Chinese takeout restaurant, except that there was more seating and people actually eating in the restaurant. Food was right on par with other places like these and service was great. The only issue I had with this place was their pricing. I bought a quart of Szechuan chicken with white rice. The price on the menu picture in yelp was $9.something, but when I got there I had to pay $15.41. I know the that the economy is bad but a 40ish% increase is a bit much.

Yelp
The lunch was popping and my husband really enjoyed it. Those shrimp egg rolls are the truth and really really delicious... Kenn had the roasted duck egg rolls and he said they were ok but, he prefer the shrimp!!!
google avatar

Bill C.

Yelp
So. We went in search of Mongolian BBQ and China Bear was listed. Julie wanted pepper steak over white rice. Girl behind the counter kept saying you want order, Julie kept telling her what she wanted. Turns out an order is a quart, and a combination is a dinner. It's a 2 dollar difference. Bad language barrier. The food is good, very tasty. I had Mongolian beef, it was hot and sweet I was iffy an the sweet part. Place is clean, food comes out fast. It's a small place. It's expensive for Chinese food. If we had known what to expect we would have stopped at a place closer to home. So. Pricey, good food read the menu and order carefully.

Yelp
Have been going here for yearsssss ! Fav dish is Singapore Mei Fun , Friendly staff as well.

Yelp
Been here a few times and it's been great each time. Prob one of my more favorite Chinese spots in town. My go to is the black pepper chicken, with noodles
google avatar

Kathleen J.

Yelp
We went here for dinner. It's not a fancy restaurant, but the food was fresh and prepared to order. We got a General Tso's combination plate and Black Pepper Chicken combination plate. We also got the Egg Drop Soup. The staff were friendly and accommodating and the restaurant was clean. The prices were VERY reasonable and the portions substantial! The food had just the right amount of heat and was very tasty. We would absolutely go again if we were in the area.

Bri H.

Yelp
Wonderful Chinese food. Service was outstanding. The food was fresh and cooked to perfection. This is my #1 spot for Chinese in BR!
google avatar

Richleen W.

Yelp
The food is always fresh and cooked to order. There is a wait depending on how busy they are but worth the wait. My favorite takeout Chinese place in BR.

isabel a.

Yelp
Great Chinese food. Everything is battered nicely and the staff was friendly. My new favorite!
google avatar

Melanie B.

Yelp
Egg Rolls were good, Mandarin Chicken was freshly made and I didn't wait long for it to be prepared. Fried Rice was dry and not tasty at all. Restaurant was nice and quaint but I actually ordered it to go. Will definitely go again when I'm in Baton Rouge!!
google avatar

Cody S.

Yelp
Very food and very good service! I got the orange chicken and it was delicious! Would definitely recommend to anyone that likes Chinese food.

Chloé P.

Yelp
I have been coming here for as long as I can remember. Food and service is ALWAYS fantastic when I go!
google avatar

Jasmine H.

Yelp
This has been my go-to Chinese joint for about 2 years now! I've had the general tso's, chicken with broccoli, chicken lo mein, shrimp fried rice, egg rolls, fried dumplings, egg drop soup and wonton soup. All of these are good and always fresh. I find the portions large enough for leftovers which is great for me! There are a few times when my food was a bit too sweet or a little bland but overall still good and more consistent than not! The family is always very friendly, prices are reasonable and the tables are always clean.

Michele M.

Yelp
Best house fried rice ever!! Really good chow Mein and you have to try their egg rolls. Staff is very nice too! Food is always fast and fresh

Jodi J.

Yelp
This little place is tucked away in a corner but has delicious food. Egg rolls are the best. General tso's chicken with low mein noodles were delicious. Totally recommend.

Yelp
China Bear is a fast, tasty, and convenient Chinese/American place. It's conveniently located in the same shopping center as Rouses Market. It has pretty much the same menu as most of the other Chinese restaurants in town, with a wide variety of stir-fried dishes, soups, and appetizers. They have a nice seating area, or you can carry out. The owners are very nice, and helpful. My favorites are the combination plates which include an entree, fried rice, and a egg roll. Prices are very reasonable. Drop in and have a familiar favorite or try something new from the extensive menu!

De Q.

Yelp
Fresh, crispy, lots of sauce. Chicken isn't dry & is more chicken than batter. Great tasting Chinese food
google avatar

Marlon S.

Yelp
Very good Chinese food. They may have too 3 shrimp fried rice. They do everything well. Because they are so solid, they keep a steady and loyal stream of people. I usually take my food to go, and I mix it up and enjoy it at home. I love their Spring rolls and egg rolls, and their shrimp dishes are all delicious. They are also done of the nicest people you will meet. I highly recommend this place if you are not familiar with or fond of Chinese-- start here and you will be happy you did. FYI: They have a lunch buffet.

Yelp
The reviews are true; this is by far THE best Chinese restaurant in the area!!! Being a frequent visitor of Baton Rouge, I've tried all the nearby Chinese restaurants around 70820. This place met all my expectations: overall great quality, good portion sizes, and excellent prices (especially for lunch). The store's in a great location, and the angry-looking shopkeep looked like a serious business woman...super legit!! We had a Daily Special and Combination dinner (Sweet and Sour Pork/// and General Tso's Chicken). It was all great!! The General Tso's Chicken was a little sweeter than I'm used to, but that's my own personal preference. In no way would I knock them for that. If I had to be nit-picky about anything, it would be the egg roll that came with the meal. I can tell that the egg rolls were actually made in the store as they were rolled very asymmetrically (still good work)!!! Also, the quality of the stuffing was mehhhhh. However, I will still give all 5 stars as these egg rolls require a lot of prep work and I appreciate this over pre-made/frozen egg rolls that most places succumb to... Anyways, thank you for reading my review!!

Brian T.

Yelp
Got the pepper chicken, extra egg roll and fried wonton. Very fresh!! Will go back again. Service was very friendly.

Yelp
This restaurant is the closet Chinese restaurant to my office. I have been here 1 time--in December--this establishment is a little larger than most of the strip mall Chinese restaurants which cater to take-out people and selections---as a matter of fact, the time I went in December there were 4-5 tables being utilized and there was still plenty of room for you to eat . There is a menu in which you can order a dish ---usually comes with the option of small or large. Additionally, during the lunch hours (and possibly dinner hours) you have the option to select from a buffet area where you select either fried rice or lo mein and then you select 2 portions from popular dishes. This type lunch special gives you the opportunity to have portions of different entrees which is a good thing.

Yelp
The menu is typical Chinese menu good quality and nice size portion . The real shinning star is a handwritten sign on wall that reads smoked duck egg rolls. Please don't ignore they are amazing. Hand prepared full of duck meat and veggies. These are stellar . Can't go a month without making a special trip to get.

Yelp
First time here after reading the reviews. This is a very pleasant establishment with food made to order. I order House fried rice, Singapore chicken and the Seafood delight. All were delish!

Yelp
We were in Baton Rouge for a night and wanted to order food for takeout. Based on reviews we landed on China Bear and we're so happy we did! We ordered two Sweet and Sour Chickens (for three people) and one Broccoli and Beef. We also ordered several Spring Rolls. Everything thing was delicious and hot once we got it to the hotel! The servings were HUGE! We could have easily split just one of the sweet and sour chickens three ways. Normally we would have been happy to have leftovers but there was no way to get the food back to Houston safely. I wish we had thought to take pictures but our hunger took precedence. China Bear even provided us with disposable plates and silverware when we told them we were staying at a hotel. If we ever come back to Baton Rouge we will definitely visit China Bear again!
google avatar

Gerald V.

Yelp
Tried out at that place and the food was good The fried rice was moist I like. The workers were friendly We will come back again.

Raeleigh J.

Yelp
Really good Chinese food! The black pepper chicken wasn't my fave and that's usually my go to at Chinese restaurants. The Lo mein and sesame chicken were the best I've ever had!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I love Chinese Food. And I'm adventurous and always wanting to try a new place. My wife is not. She loves it too, but hates trying new places. We tend to find one we like and then that's the only one we'll every use again. After the flood the only house we could find was in Baton Rouge and near Perkins & Siegen. It took four tries until we found China Bear. The first one my wife liked, and, the best one yet. It then became our defacto Chinese Restaurant. It's a family run place, generally really busy for takeout, and their super friendly. My youngest always loved going with me to pick it up since he got a cookie.

Yelp
I work near here, so it's a place we frequent when we want a hot, inexpensive lunch. They have a plate lunch special with a price that really cannot be beat. The food is served cafeteria style, but everything is super hot and fresh. I've tried many of the dishes and always been pleasantly surprised. Many Chinese restaurants like this fail to meet expectations, but this one exceeds where others flop. Definitely go for the spicy chicken dish at lunch. Also here's a pro-tip: if you prefer white rice over fried rice or noodles, you can request it and they will bring you some from the back.
google avatar

Yelp
This place makes you wish that Yelp had a BIG FAT ZERO rating because China Bear is truly awful. The food is terrible and you have to order more than just a lunch special in order to use your credit car or debit card. Over the years I've ate here I think 3 times and every time it was worse if that's humanly possible. I can't for the life of me understand how they have stayed in business.
google avatar

Mandy V.

Yelp
I previously gave this place 3* but I have to up my rating and here's why....lunch special is daily (including weekends) 11-3 and costs $5.25. You just can't beat it...and the portions are huge! I really love the Singapore mai fun and the general Tso's chicken. My husband likes the wonton soup and the hot and sour. We recently tried the hot and spicy beef which isn't a fav of mine but its still pretty dang scrumptious. Also, they have the best fortune cookies...not sure if it is the brand or if its that they are really fresh? Either way I don't care...dey good! All in all this place has yet to disappoint...so they get extra points in my review :)

Yelp
My first time trying China Bear was a rash decision turned into a great love. I had gone to Home Depot and after having Deangelos the day before, I wasn't sure what to try. Most Chinese food restaurants I go to are all the same: not bad, but only if I'm starving. China Bear was different. Now, don't get me wrong, as soon as you walk in you feel like you have time traveled to a ghost restaurant from 20 years ago. The decor is old and alarms you as to how the food will taste. But trust me, once you get past this you are on your way to Chinese food heaven. I always go for the black pepper chicken and the teriyaki chicken but they a large number of options to choose from. You can either dine in or grab some to go. The staff seems family owned which I always like about restaurants and they are all super sweet. Next time you want some Chinese, stop by the Bear and you will not be disappointed.

Yelp
We ordered before 3 pm and were charged for an evening amount. We called to dispute and they refused the excessive charge. We will never order from them again!

Darlene A.

Yelp
Food is Wonderful , and the owners and workers are very friendly. I love this little restaurant

Yelp
We finally found the perfect Chinese restaurant!!! This place always hits the spot! Our favorite is the Lo mein/ fried rice combo plate, sesame chicken, sweet & sour shrimp, fried dumplings, crab Rangoon and the chicken noodle sour is out of this world! Definitely makes me feel better when I'm sick. It is a ton of food- my boyfriend and I can usually share a plate! The people that work there are so friendly, we love coming in to get our Chinese fix here!

A V.

Yelp
The worse service I have experienced EVER . I am a handicapped senior citizen and I ordered to go . When I got there they refused to bring out my order. The girl said they were only 3 and that I could come in and get it. I explained I could not walk and that I would wait. I waited almost an hour during which time only 4 customers went in and out. I again called and they flatly refused to bring out the food and I explained again that I was unable to walk and she said to me "That's your problem ". I have never been treated that way, specially during the pandemic when establishments have been going out of their way to help people in need.

Gordon L.

Yelp
Close to mall of LA. Clean restaurant and friendly staff. Boneless fried chicken combo was delicious!
google avatar

Brittany D.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in Baton Rouge. Their black pepper chicken, sweet & sour shrimp, egg rolls, and crab Rangoon's are my personal favorites! You cannot go wrong ordering any of these! The service is always fast and the owners are super friendly!
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
They still have the serving line lunch special which includes a drink. Ofcourse it cost more now its $6.25. I only come here for the lunch special. Food is always hot. This place really needs to update its decor.
google avatar

Jami H.

Yelp
The food is great and the price is fair for what your buying. I've ordered from here several times and I have never been disappointed. The people who work their do exceptional work and make sure that you are taken care of. If you want good Chinese food at a decent price, this place is for you.
google avatar

Gregory G.

Yelp
Got a haircut next door and needed to grab a quick bite. The look of the place almost scared me away! I'm glad I stuck with it and ordered. Food was super hot, very fresh, spicy and tasty. I got kung pao chicken and pork fried rice. Wasn't too adventurous. I will for sure go back and try some more. The owners spend nothing on decor, restaurant has a whiff of disinfectant odor.... Doesn't matter, the food is very good.

Kristina C.

Yelp
Favorite take it Chinese food place! Family run business with freshly made large portions of wonderful food! It's always a pleasure to go here and the food is always great!

Jay J.

Yelp
Decent Chinese food. Nothing impressive. Price seems okay for the weekend that I ordered. Will order from again. But personally did not find any reason that this place would stand out.

Paige B.

Yelp
Such good food!! Not greasy, flavorful, and kind, caring staff!! A great business to support! Your tastebuds will thank you!
google avatar

Kalesha H.

Yelp
I find that this establishment has the best General Tso's Chicken in town. I also love their Fried Dumplings. I've always been greeted with a smile and my food order has never been incorrect. I'm so confident, I don't even check the bag when I take it to go. The prices are comparable for Chinese take out but the taste sets them apart. I would recommend this place if you want some hot, fresh and tasty Chinese food!

Mike M.

Yelp
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. The atmosphere isn't much but the food is consistently great. My wife and I have been coming here since they opened.
google avatar

Brad V.

Yelp
This is my go to Chinese food stop. Not the biggest, nicest, or best around, but they are consistently good. I have not had a bad choice yet on the menu. Seem to always order the Mei Fun, so that is a favorite.
google avatar

Joseph C.

Yelp
I drive past at least 2 other Chinese places to get my food here. Their menu is huge and they'll custom-make anything they can. I frequently order the kung-pao chicken/beef extra spicy, with broccoli and mushrooms instead of the normal vegetables. They're always polite and I never have to wait long. The garlic sauce dishes and steamed dumplings are also favorites.
