I don’t know about the reviews saying that the food is tasteless, I have tried different dishes and they are all amazing. I love the flavors and taste. They are quick and super cheap. Also, they have a lot of deals. I recommend the Mongolian beef and sesame chicken.

Google
I am so saddened to see that this place has closed down! I was so excited to order from it last night. Only to walk up and see they shut it down 😭 It's a true tragedy that Uptown has lost its best hole in the wall Chinese takeout restaurant. You will be missed 💜

Dee

Google
Affordable. Don’t recommend the hot pepper chicken taste old and dry and it’s not spicy just bland. And the lady at the front wasn’t friendly. Maybe other things on the menu are better…

Gregory Kocal

Google
Had their beef lo mein with what I believe was a pork egg roll. The price was extremely fair and the quality exceeds the price. The beef was some of the most tender I've ever had with a lo mein dish. Definitely would drive out of my way to try more food from here

Janyia Michelle.

Google
Terrible service, the cashier was rude and to top it off the food is disgusting! I mean if I could rate this place a zero I would. Don’t come to the restaurant.

Stacey Johnson

Google
Food was okay. Ordered pepper steak with shrimp fried rice. Got home and noticed they gave me chicken fried rice. I got more chunks of bell pepper than I did meat. All in all it was good. Would probably only order again if I'm super super hungry and craving their food since I live in the area

Google
The food is good. the prices are good. except that one day when I got old plain fried rice. I took it back and they replaced it with fresh fried rice, and threw in a few egg rolls for my problems.

Jasper

Google
Good chinese takeout style food with large portions. The thai food here is SUPERB.

Yelp
I have eaten China Cafe maybe half a dozen times and every time the food is AMAZING. Hot, fresh, flavorful. You CANNOT beat their lunch special. Great portions for an affordable price. I highly recommend their orange chicken, sweet&sour chicken, all lo mein and all fried rice meals!! Crab rangoons are delicious and so are their pot stickers. No dine in, so order online and pick up in person. You won't regret it

Yelp
The best news so far for 2025....they're finally CLOSED!!! Went by there recently and saw a sign that they were closed, almost too good to be true. After years of substandard food and dismal customer service people stopped going and they folded!

Pamela J B.

Yelp
Excellent service. Carry out and Delivery only. They use their own delivery driver and always fast courteous. Closed Mondays. Lunch specials. Good prices. I love the Pepper Steak comes with egg roll and chicken fried rice. Good portion. I also buy a can of the Liptons iced tea. I've been a good customer for over 13 years.

Yelp
I don't know where to start. It's 3:04 in the morning and I'm beyond upset. I've ordered from this place twice, the first time I spent close to $100.00 worth of food, and one watermelon smoothie. The woman gave me my smoothie and it was mainly just ice and sugar, I saw some things floating in the smoothie and just sucked it up and let it go. 4/21/21 My son decided to eat the left over "beef" Lo mein and minutes later he comes in my room telling me he spit something back out because the texture was disgusting and had hairs attached on it. I put what he spat on a napkin and observed it under the lamp, and completely freaked the fuck out! What the fuck kind of rats are these people killing and passing off as "beef, steak" ? You can clearly see hairs on this and I'm so disgusted and enraged my son had to fall victim to this fuckery!!!!! Never again! I don't care about anything but my son's health, the health and safety of other people, and bringing this to the attention of anyone that is thinking about ordering at this fucked up spot. I ended up calling the place and expressing my anger and the lady had the nerve to say she wasn't there! Biggest lie ever told!!! She was definitely there because she took my money and served me the order. I'll describe her, Asian woman, Vietnamese or Chinese, glasses, dark hair, light skin, an older man was the cook. As soon as you walk in, you'll see a plethora of dishes all over the wall. Anyway, can you believe she had the nerve to start yelling back lol Excuse me, you served my 14 year old an unidentified, hairy, piece of something that belonged to whatever the fuck you guys killed and served us. I will look into taking this to the lab to find out exactly what they served in this "beef" Lo mein. Totally unacceptable and cringe/barf worthy! Nasty fucks!!!!

Yelp
We were happily surprised by this place. They have a huge menu, all reasonably priced. We ordered the large Mongolian beef, Kung Pao chicken, and pork lo mein. The chicken and beef came with a side of white rice. There was enough food for 4 of us to eat, all for $33. The beef was tender and rather mild and had lots of sauce. We all liked this dish. The chicken was very tender, but not spicy enough (add more spice if you like it really hot). It was good, but we'll probably try something different next time. We all loved the pork lo mein. Everything needed some soy sauce to add a little more flavor. Still, huge portions, lots of meat, and great prices. There's no indoor dining; we waited about 10 minutes for them to prepare our food.

Brandon B.

Yelp
Ordered Egg Yoo Young. Food took over an hour and a half to deliver less than 2 miles and arrived burnt

Alexandra H.

Yelp
I was feeling Chinese food today for dinner. I ordered the crabmeat rations, shrimp Cantonese chow mein, szechuan beef, rice, and fortune cookies. The order came on time, was nice and hot, good portion size, cute little rice take out box, good price, and the delivery girl was very sweet. Overall, I really enjoyed it!

Aneesha S.

Yelp
Good spot for standard American Chinese fair. Lunch & dinner specials are great value.

Patrick J.

Yelp
Not bad. It is my idea of an average Chinese restaurant. The eat in facilities could be better. The A C was not on when I was there.

Nate N.

Yelp
I've become a regular at this spot, great value and because I carry out it's piping hot. 9/10 times I get general tso's chicken because it has a super crunchy texture on the outside and the sauce is delectable. Chances are you can't finish a large single handedly, the portions are healthy. Always nice staff and real Chinese cooks so if you live in the area give it a try!

Henry S.

Yelp
First time to order here. Lesson learned, Never order Thai food from a Chinese take out. Had Pad Thai... noodles were just like smothered with catsup. Terrible. Mango Smoothie taste so flat....Tapioca so rubbery. Just as I have mentioned, my first time.

Andre W.

Yelp
Strip mall Chinese joint on Sheridan & Lawrence is pretty decent I ordered the small shrimp fried rice which was pretty good. They have a nice sized menu on the wall when you walk in...the place isn't very big obviously. Woman behind the counter wasn't the friendliest, but she did give me extra soy sauce and sweet & sour sauce when I asked for it.

Abby S.

Yelp
I think this place is very unappreciated. This is our go to spot if we want quick take out. The portions are VERY generous and the dishes are always delicious! We usually get the bbq pork chow mein and the general Tso's chicken. The eggrolls are above average as well. 2 meals and 2 eggrolls for under 20 bucks, you just can't beat that price!

Nathaniel K.

Yelp
I love this place! Their wonton soup is like nothing I've had anywhere-- like real veggies and fresh! Egg-rolls were crisp and actually had chicken unlike most Chinese restaurants too. Excellent pad-Thai. Every time I order someplace I expect the other shoe to drop, after 4 years-- nope. It's still always exceedingly awesome :)

Jan S.

Yelp
This restaurant is my go to when I have a taste for Chinese food. I've tried many restaurants and this is my favorite. I ordered a wonton soup, egg rolls and pork egg foo young today. I ordered the egg foo young spicy and that's what I got. My food always arrives hot and fast. If you're in the area give them a try!

Esther L.

Yelp
Ordered a papaya bubble tea without the bubbles. It seems to be real fruit but over $3 is pricey, especially since they charge more for bubbles. I've had papaya but never as a fruit. The bubble tea has a subtle sweetness, not as sweet as I like. It has a strange aftertaste. I wouldn't come back for bubble tea. After ordering, we asked how long we can park in the lot. The parking lot says no parking overnight so we thought we could leave our car after we ordered for a bit. The girl at the cash register said that as soon as we leave, we are no longer their customer and they can tow our car. Although they are entitled to do this, I expecting more empathy as a fellow Asian American. Didn't seem like they have public restrooms. The seating area is wheelchair accessible and right in front of the accessible parking. They have a huge Chinese and Thai menu, which makes me wonder what they are really good at. Apparently they are on GrubHub. They had $10 off GrubHub coupons. They also have deals on their menu if you spend a lot. Near the Aragon Ballroom. They were pretty busy on a Friday night. They have a few tables and chairs, but not a lot.

Lauren B.

Yelp
The only thing worth getting is the crab rangoons. They're actually REALLY good. Buuuut, not worth it. Chicken and broccoli had the most flavorless sauce I've ever tasted. And I'm not even sure if the chicken was cooked? I also paid an extra $3 to substitute fried rice. And there was some sort of mystery meat in it? Would have loved to know that when I subbed it. Delivery was earlier than estimated. Ugh, I was craving Chinese food too.

Bill M.

Yelp
Recently I was drawn to dining at China Cafe, located in a strip mall at Sheridan and Lawrence. Even though this place is set up mainly as a takeout and delivery joint, they do have a few tables in its spartan public area for eating there. The Cantonese-style BBQ pork chow mein was surprisingly decent, as far as flavor and serving size and crunchy pan-fried noodles go. The fried rice comes in three sizes, including a gigantic family size box that no reasonable human can finish in one sitting (needless to say, my dining companion had a lot of beef fried rice to take home in her big box). My pineapple smoothie was more of a slushie rather than a smoothie. I definitely would not make this joint a dining destination, but if somehow you wind up in this area you might want to give China Cafe a shot.

Tony V.

Yelp
The lady that takes orders has a really bad attitude I will not recommend this place at all 100% really bad customer service!!!

Thomas B.

Yelp
This place is a delight! They have expanded their menu since the last time I ordered. I have had many of their dishes including their walnut fish and walnut shrimp in the past. Now they have a walnut tofu on the menu, so I had to try it.... I ordered through Grub Hub for delivery. The order was prompt. The portions were enormous (the entrée could have served two). And the walnut tofu was delicious! I have been eating more vegetarian lately, and it looks like they have expanded their vegetarian offerings. I will definitely have to put them back in my regular order rotation.

Jay K.

Yelp
We had our food delivered from this place since all our other options were closed for the night. We were told 30 minutes for delivery, but it actually took about 50-60 minutes. What we ordered: Sesame beef Orange chicken Steamed pot stickers Crab rangoons The steamed pot stickers were the best thing we received. These aren't the gyoza style...they're the thicker dough type, which i prefer. We liked 'em. The crab rangoons were huge. Too much cream cheese for me, but the gf liked 'em. The sesame beef had a weird flavor to it. It had a weird sweet type of flavor. Orange chicken was soggy, and had chunks of cartilage / fat / tendons. Now, I realize when you get delivery, this can happen (the sogginess). But it was pretty bad. I wouldn't eat here again.....and if you're thinkin about it....don't.

Vesuvi T.

Yelp
Since I've been spoiled with some stellar Chinese cuisine, I must be honest. The food here is fine... but not outstanding. The plus side... it's relatively inexpensive and the portions are large. Down side, this location is NOT ideal for dining. I went there hungry (and had seen people eating through the windows before) so when I discovered that the place really is no-frills and set up for take-away or delivery... that was less than ideal. But having said all that, the person who took my order was super sweet AND gave me a drink (Dr. Pepper) for free. So there are tons of qualities that make this place worth giving business to. I just now know what to expect.

Yelp
I ordered take-out from here once and was not happy. They took so long to deliver!! And when the food finally came, everything tasted the same! Yukk..I won't be ordering from here again!

Tony K.

Yelp
We order take out (I actually mean takeout, not delivery like the others reviews did when they were referring to take out) from the China Cafe frequently as it's right down the street from us. The wait time for the food never exceeds 10 minutes. The General Tso's chicken is awesome (ask for extra spicy) and their fried biscuits are really good. Just remember to eat them warm! This business does accept credit cards, opposed to what's been said. If you're getting delivery, tell them before you place your order that you're using a credit card and it's not a big deal. It's a family owned business and the people there are nice if you're nice to them. Their dinner specials are a great deal, as well. The portions are giant!

Christine A.

Yelp
Lunch special is very cheap considering the abundance of food that they give you. I've tried their Hunan chicken and Chicken with vegetables. Both were ok but their sauce seems to be lacking a certain taste I would normally get from other Chinese restaurants. Service was friendly and I wouldn't mind going back to try out their other lunch specials.

Megan A.

Yelp
China Cafe is such a great little place. They delivered my order forty-five minutes before the scheduled time, the food was delicious and hot, and the size of the portions runs true! The large Fried Rice was more than I expected and lasted for more than one meal which was great. The delivery guy was friendly. Great experience!

Andy D.

Yelp
We ordered China Café for the first time last night and will for sure will do so again. We had the Szechuan beef and general Tso's chicken, both were solid and exactly what you want in Chinese take-out. We got the dinner portion for one entrée and that came with chicken fried rice and an egg roll. We stuffed ourselves and both will have leftovers for lunch today. The prices were very reasonable($18 for everything) and they said the order would be ready in 15-20 minutes. Walked in 15 minutes after calling and the order was boxed up and ready to go. Family run place that deserves a try if you are in the area.

Steven G.

Yelp
I no longer can recommend china Cafe. This used to be a great place to go but the new owners and staff don't appreciate their customers and treat us with contempt. Food quality has dropped and items fried taste of old used oil. The general taos chicken is no longer rich and wonderful. The shrimp toast is greasy and raw tasting. They still make a good Mongolian beef. I wish I could take back my stars!

Allison E.

Yelp
Food arrived lukewarm and soggy. The kung pao chicken was flavorless and the rice that came with it was very small. The crab Rangoon also did not come with any dipping sauce.

Li S.

Yelp
It took over an hour for my delivery after ordering on Grub-Hub. Food was not even worth it. Rice flavorless and not prepared as requested spicy. Did not include the extra sauces I asked for like sweet and sour and hot oil. And to make it worse the Driver didn't want to give me my $5 change. As if I would tip a Clown who arrived an hour and 15 minutes late for a place that is down the street. Skip and you should be ashamed China Café.

Marcee W.

Yelp
Although the strip mall where this take-out restaurant is located has it's share of trouble, it hasn't kept me from their good food. Great value for the taste, I've enjoyed their fried rice, egg foo young, chicken chow mein and shrimp with lobster sauce. Call in your pick-up order in advance for quick in-and-out. Plentiful parking.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Love this place! One of the best fast food Chinese spots around! Good food for price and friendly staff. Check out their lunch specials!

Mairin B.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from this place, and no where on the menu or during our phone conversation did anyone tell me it was a cash-only establishment. When the food came, the driver wouldn't take my check, and we searched our apartment for nearly 15 minutes trying to scrounge up enough cash before the driver said he would (sigh) phone in my credit card. The food was pretty good, but they charged us for our "free" crab rangoons.

Terence V.

Yelp
Good portion sizes. Everyone was super friendly and they gave me a free eggroll even though I didn't order a dinner special. Try the crab rangoons.

Samantha M.

Yelp
I AM FURIOUS! I placed an order online which I have done many times for delivery from this location. I usually receive my food within 30mins because I live pretty close. I even received a confirmation email! After about an hour I called because I hadn't received my food. The lady that picked up the phone first told me she hadn't received my order, but after about 10 minutes of me telling her I made it and have a confirmation saying I should have gotten it 20mins prior she said "oh I'm sorry I see it now" she then in a very rude tone asked if I still want it which I said yes I've already paid for it and she said it would take another 45 mins. So now 2 hours after I placed my order I finally have my food and when I opened the bag I didn't get the 3 sets of chopsticks I asked for. Furious I called the store and she said oh I gave you forks I forgot the chop sticks. I told her I was very angry because it took TWO HOURS to get my food and I asked for 3 sets of chopsticks and instead received 2 forks.... she then rambled and made excuses as to why this happened saying she didn't hear the online order sound. She wasn't sorry she didn't care and I'm very angry because I did like the food here. The least she could have done after all of this was give me a discount or possibly have someone bring me my chopsticks. Instead she said sorry a couple of times and made lame excuses.

Heather L.

Yelp
Love this place. Really good egg rolls (I feel like alot of places have crappy egg rolls) but also decent prices and deals. I get something different whenever I come and I'm never disappointed. Taking one stars for the interior of the place. Wouldn't hurt to clean/fix it up...

Drew M.

Yelp
We ordered the standard orange chicken, general Tso's and pot stickers. Both of our entrees were size small but were very sizable. Overall it was generally good, one thing worth noting is that even though both the orange and general Tso's say they are spicy, they are both pretty mild.

Stacie F.

Yelp
BEWARE of food posioning! They delivered almost RAW chicken to me 2x. Both times they refused to admit that it was under cooked- even after showing them a piece of chicken that was bright red in the middle. Then they refused to refund my credit card unless I came to the store in person. When I went to get my refund and show them the chicken again, they kept telling me the chicken was fine to eat. I have never been treated so rudely AND been served such horrible food.

R Z.

Yelp
Cheap in every way. The food was dull, and I could not get a to go container for my half eaten portion. I had to beg for a bag. "I am just following the owners orders." Everyone picking up seemed to have something wrong or missing from their order. The area is scary and there are better places. If you want to eat in, dirty tables and no A/C.

Steve L.

Yelp
Not the best but damn good. I've only ordered delivery from there but it's always prompt and both the delivery drivers and order-takers have always been friendly and polite. No complaints!
