D I S A P P O I N T E D Read the past negative reviews about the quality of food going back 5 months- 1 year. It’s been 3 years since we were last here and the food quality was fantastic then. Last week’s experience from what was once a great Chinese restaurant is no more. Notice that the owners now fail to respond to any google map reviews. To be fair, I will point out a few positives. They did accommodate 5 of us with a reservation and the chairs are comfortable. The server was very persistent to make sure we had everything we needed, the whole time. The service was fast. The hot tea was abundant. The combination plate sizes were the largest we have ever seen for a Chinese restaurant. Large fried prawns are about 8 to 10 inches. However, the negatives abound. The outside of the restaurant has not been maintained. I mention the sizable proportion served. But quantity does not make up for inferior quality. I ordered a combination #11 plate, Almond Chicken, Special Chow Mein, BBQ Pork and an Egg Roll. The gravy in the Almond Chicken blended between no taste to an identifiable flavor. Not the flavor I am accustomed to across the western states at many other Chinese Restaurants. The special Chow Mein does have the advantage of not having any celery, but the soft noodles were gummy. The broccoli in the Special Chow Mein is under cooked. The BBQ Pork had no flavor except for the red sauce I dipped the pieces into. The large Egg Role was salvageable with the requested hot oil. I purposely did not use soy sauce to get the true flavor of the cuisine. I usually do not write bad reviews but my experience here is a fair warning to others. If the owners were concerned they would be responding to the negative reviews as well as the positive ones.

We LOVE the food here, the waitress was very attentive and nice and the food was WAY better than Cathy Inn! Their almond sauce is just right and we always have leftovers for multiple days that are easily heated in the air fryer.

The food here is delicious and authentic. Full of robust flavors and hearty portions. Authentic atmosphere that is welcoming and transcends you to another place. 10/10

Google
The ambiance was so amazing it’s beautiful to just sit and look around at all of the authentic decoré. As the server about it and they may tell you some cool stories. -the service was very good -the food was incredibly delicious and there was plenty of it. We felt as if we couldn’t hit the bottom of our plate. -The real test was leftovers the next day were still just as good! -we loved the full service tea 🫖 as well.

Google
the crispy chicken and almond chicken were very good, coating was perfect. The special chow mein was average at best. I would go back if I am craving Almond Chicken.

Met my Dad at China Dragon Spokane for lunch today. Our server was great, the restaurant and bathrooms were clean. My Dad had been saying (for quite some time) that he wanted to go to a Chinese restaurant that had brown sweet and sour sauce, not the red sweet and sour sauce that is very prevalent in our area. When I was pregnant with my Son (that will be 31 this year 😳) my Dad and I went to The China Dragon every single week. It’s where I learned to master chopsticks, because I wanted to “impress” my MIL (she was Japanese). 😊 I knew they had the brown sweet and sour, so we made plans for lunch. Was going to be yesterday, but Father’s Day was more fitting. Food was really good, dinner prices are a little higher than many other places in town, lunch prices are decent, but the amount of shrimp in the shrimp dish that came with my dinner-sized combo was ridiculous (two tiny shrimp in my black pepper shrimp). I did have lots of leftovers though. 😂 So definitely check out China Dragon, it’s been around for a long time. The food is good, the restaurant is clean. Just don’t order any stir-fried shrimp dishes. 😆

I’ve had your food a lot over the last 30 years. Always has been great. Lately it’s been saltier than usual. Please tell the cooks to lighten the salt, you can always add more at the table.

Yelp
This Chinese restaurant offers a pretty authentic dining experience, both in flavor and atmosphere. The interior has a nostalgic charm, complete with fish tanks and classic dragon decorations. It does feel a bit dated, with wood paneling and booth seating that looks straight out of the 1980s. Still, that old-school vibe might be part of its appeal for some, especially the boomer crowd who seem to enjoy the variety of soup options on the menu. The food leans mild in spice, so if you prefer more heat, I'd recommend asking for their hot mustard or chili paste, both are great additions. The steamed tofu is especially soft and comforting, but there's also a fried option if you want something crispier. Service was a highlight. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. There's even a bar area, and they host MMA fights on the weekends if that's your thing. With a few updates to the decor, this spot could really shine even more, but overall it's a solid, laid-back place for a satisfying meal.

Yelp
We tried their bar twice and both times(diffrent staff) they were either incredibly high or drunk or both! Last time the bartender and his waitress girlfriend could barely function! You shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable or unsafe around the bartender and staff. There are 1,000 more places to spend our money. HARD PASS!

Yelp
Was our first time here and was a good little visit. Restaurant seems dated but it gives it character and the waitress was super nice. I ordered Combo M which was Egg Drop Soup, Spicy Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Chow Mein and I got a Cherry Lemonade to drink. The soup was pretty awesome I really enjoyed it and my Cherry Lemonade which was a little sweet but that's OK I still slammed it. The Spicy chicken wasn't like overpowering spice it seemed like a light amount of heat which wad good but it did sneak up on you. The breading on the Spicy chicken was awesome and the sauce was very awesome I really liked it. The chicken fried rice was OK, I'm sorry to say I think I'm used to chicken fried rice like panda express and teriyaki spice, but I really enjoyed it and if I didn't like it I wouldn't have eaten the entire thing. I enjoyed the chow mein with veggies it tasted very good. Overall our experience was good and we left way beyond full and we loved the lunch price as it was all affordable and I hope they never change their price for lunches as we would love to go back. If you haven't been to China Dragon go and check it out during lunch as it's very affordable and they have various options on their menu you won't regret the visit.

Yelp
Great good service was ok the waiters were nothing to brag about, quite rude. No smiles no thank you What ever happen to a nice welcome to the customer?

Yelp
Huge plates that are customizable! I love China Dragon for the classic Chinese restaurant style, delicious food, and large portions! I eat here regularly and for YEARS. If you are down for delicious plates with variety check it out! Go see my girl Mandi in the bar!

Yelp
I love this place! We always come January 1st, it's a tradition. We sit in the bar. Perfect to watch the football games. We got Spicy Beef Noodle Soup and egg rolls. And the oolong Jasmine tea is amazing!! Bathroom is clean & smells good which is important to me! If I was a local, this would be my go to bar spot! Mandy is a great waitress in the bar area, very attentive & friendly! Great service!
google avatar

Marcus J.

Yelp
Service was good. Food was very bad. Chicken was so dry couldn't eat it. Chow mein greasy. Bbq pork so dry took one bite and left it. Basically everything flavorless.

Danford G.

Yelp
You have lost a loyal customer. If china dragon does 200 people in 1 day and gets my small order. That's a $150.00 that they stole from people who didn't consent to tip on top of the tip they already gave. A month- $4500.00 and A year- $54,000.00

Andrea R.

Yelp
My husband and I like to come in on Sundays to eat in the bar. Captain Ron always takes excellent care of us and the food is consistent and good. We have been visiting the Dragon for for all 20 years of our married life and appreciate having a constant.

Shari J.

Yelp
I really like the food, the service, the atmosphere, and the price! The best Chinese restaurant in town!

Lisa C.

Yelp
Moo goo gai pan and black pepoer beef was amazing! Would have givin more stars but i ordered fried rice and it was just white rice with soy sauce and crab ragoins (with real crab) had NO CRAB at all for $23.00. I just spent $100.00 and almost a quarter of it was for something i didnt even get. Service was great.

Carter M.

Yelp
Rude, Bar had a cover, & lacks authenticity. No pens for receipts, sticky tables, and out of many items.
google avatar

Cindy K.

Yelp
Love the food but.... This visit was not to appetizing I always sit in the bar area While eating my egg flower soup I cought something in my teeth A small piece of foil???? I could not finish my soup I told Mandy about it as she took it away But nothing was ever said ???what's up with that I am a regular customer , does that make it ok to just ignore it

Yelp
I wanted to like this restaurant because my grandparents do, but the only thing I sort of enjoyed were the cream cheese wontons and the wonton soup. Most everything else I ordered was chewy, unnecessary fried, and/or covered in a strange brown gravy. Maybe I just ordered wrong, but I wasn't thrilled with either of the 2 visits I've had here. The service was nice, though.

Teresa R.

Yelp
Ordered takeout. Definitely the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Ordered R from the lunch menu, which is sweet and sour pork, pork chow mein, and pork fried rice. The pork for the rice and the chow mein was just tiny grated bbq pork sprinkled on top. The chow mein was a bunch of vegetables with the crunchy noodles on the side. The menu didn't say it was that kind of chow mein. The sweet and sour pork was ok, but there was no carrot, pineapple, onion or bell pepper, just sauce.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Been going here for 30 years excellent food I recommend this to all my friends I found this place on Christmas when our oven broke so we needed a good place to eat and told me there was some good Chinese restaurants up where you guys were at but you're the one who came to you first you ever had any bad food there

Dianna J.

Yelp
Lunch with a couple of old friends. Food was delicious! Arrived relatively warm! Waitress came around a few times to make sure we were taking care of. All in all a very nice meal with dear old friends !
google avatar

Steven J.

Yelp
The service was honestly the only reason this got a 2* our waitress was very friendly and fast. Now... to the food. The egg flower soup was bitter, the crab rangoons were 99.9% cream cheese, the #1 combo dinner used like canned shredded chicken or lunch meat or something for the chicken fried rice, Completely unacceptable. The orange chicken had a sliver of chicken and 95% breading, the sauce was decent but there was no chicken. It wasn't worth eating. Same thing with there "general sesame" (they don't have general tso chicken?) except this one didn't didn't even have any sauce... anyway if you've ever had Chinese food you'll be confused and disappointed here.

Yelp
A little lost at the low rating. My wife and I were in town for a few days and we happened to pick this place to eat. Sat at the bar for dinner. 6 ish on a Saturday. Warren, the bartender was outstanding. Very attentive. Very engaging. Pleasant and fun conversation. He made dinner suggestions according to what we were looking for, which worked out just perfectly. The food, won-ton soup, rice (both fried and white), almond chicken, BBQ pork and prawns, was all terrific. We liked all of the food, no, loved it, and then add the great service, made for an outstanding dining experience. Wasn't until we got back to the hotel and I started to write this review that I noticed the 2.6 Yelp rating. What the heck???? Either we were in a totally different location, or Eastern Washington people just don't get it.
google avatar

Elsie G.

Yelp
Egg drop soup was ok. It had too many chucks of cabbage to my liking. I ordered #13 (see photo below) but they forgot to add the fried prawns which was part of the entree hence the 3 stars. The sweet and sour pork was really good. I did an online order so can't comment on the service.

Clint R.

Yelp
Everything can improve. Uber eats tricked me and I'm very disappointed. What a waste of money and my taste buds. Sloppy everything with the wrong items and soggy deep fried crap. Never again.

Dylan S.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in spokane. Large portions decent price. Staff are good at refills.

Diane D.

Yelp
Used to go here years ago and it was really good. Now they give you Celery Chow Mein( didn't even know this was a dish). Half cooked Celery with chopped lunch meat on top in some sort of gelatinous sauce (not very good). Egg Foo young was okay and Sweet and Sour pork was decent but Fried rice topped with what looked like just lunchmeat sliced up. Hostess acted like we were annoying her to get us seated. This place has definitely gone down hill. Inside is Outdated and Upholstery very worn. Looks like it could use a good cleaning. Go to Cathay Inn for Good Chinese.
google avatar

Shaylie L.

Yelp
We made a reservation for Monday the 25th and we came to the restaurant with a large party and family and the place is CLOSED. There was a sign on the door saying that they're closed on Mondays effective March 18th. We made the reservation on the 22nd. It wouldn't be a big deal if we hadn't already made a reservation. Stay on top of your business and stop lying to your customers.
google avatar

Mike G.

Yelp
Food is bland and tasteless!!! The cashew chicken was gravy on chicken strips!! Fried rice had zero flavor! The black tea was good!

Cindy C.

Yelp
This restaurant does not deserve a star. My family and I went to China dragon with high hopes. The chicken in the fried rice had rubbery texture. The dinner combo 4 was atrocious. The almond chicken was soggy and did not have any flavor. The pork looked like it had seen better days. I think it was asking me to put it out of its misery. Never again.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
In my opinion the best value in Spokane for Chinese food. I would say the best almond chicken, and fried rice I have ever tasted. The staff, and service are fast, and terrific.
google avatar

Shanna F.

Yelp
One of my favorite local Chinese spots in Spokane. A lot of the staff have been long time employees and their food is always fresh, hot, great portions & consistent in the quality. I am really picky and don't enjoy a ton of vegetables so I appreciate that they serve the basic fried rice without all of the evil veggies lol I also like the fact that their sweet & sour sauce is the dark one. I've been to restaurants where they use a red sauce, but I'd prefer the dark one.
google avatar

Dave B.

Yelp
Expensive, overpriced, lousy food. Panda Express is better. The rest of this is just filler to meet the word minimum

Ruth S.

Yelp
The food was fantastic! The price was amazing too for how much we got. We sat in the bar and the bartender was right there and prompt with our food and drinks. The atmosphere was appealing and comfortable. We will definitely go back soon
google avatar

Nellie B.

Yelp
I can't believe I'm giving this place 4 stars but I have to. We were lucky to go at lunch, because prices were kind of affordable, but one look at the dinner and regular prices and it was ouch. We did not order appetizers for that reason. And if you look at my pictures it looks all cafeteria horrible. Omg it wasn't! Everything tasted amazing, and we all agreed. I have been to places that do use MSG, but I think this place just did a great job with seasoning everything they cooked. The place was clean and the service was very friendly too.

Anthony P.

Yelp
A group of 10 families members drove from Spokane valley all the way to the north side for dinner here. It was on Monday the 25th. They had a door on the sign saying starting Monday 3/18 they will be closed Mondays. This issue is a reservation was made on Friday the 22nd for a group of 10 on Monday the 25th and the restaurant took the reservation with no mention they would be closed.
google avatar

Sherri D.

Yelp
Hate to give it one star. Never had such terrible food in my life! It was awful! Greasy and tasteless! The service was just as bad here! stat away if you are looking for decent food!
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
service was friendly, but we waited a bit before someone greeted us at the entrance. The food was pretty disappointing. Nothing really tasted like you expected it to taste. The sweet and sour chicken had a dark soy sauce look to it. The egg roll was mostly cabbage and black pepper. And the "chow mein" was crispy chow mein noodles that you can buy in a can from Costco topped with celery and onions that made the crispy noodles soggy. The almond chicken and beef broccoli was decent, but still lacked some flavor. For how busy they were, I expected the food to be much better.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
I think with many other things in this world Covid changed a lot. This place was a five star place on most aspects. Now after Covid I would say they have changed staff and it's not as good as it use to be. The place needs a refresh on the building. You can tell it's run down. Still love the food it's not authentic but it's good.

Cool J.

Yelp
Review from an Asian Authentic Taste - average tasting. Specific asked for the crispy beef to be spicy. Lacked any heat. Value- looks like menu prices doubled. May have been worth it if the taste was more authentic and tastier. $20-$25 per dinner dish is high for this restaurant. Ambiance- Nice and spacious Service - not bad for Asian :)
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
Had an awful experience here at China dragon restaurant. Food was over sauced, chicken is soggy and apparently that huge pile of greens in my photo is called chow mein. Got 1 refill on my soda and then it sat empty the rest of the time after that.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Bugs in the egg flour soup, had to leave and never return. Used to be the best in town. New management/ownership ruined it.

Anthony H.

Yelp
If I could give ZERO stars I would use to be a time when China dragon was ok not great but ok, you could count on the food to edible. Sadly, last time I took the family to a sit down dinner a few months ago the help was rude and very unpleasant, until I asked her what is the issue here, she just smiled. When we got our food it was horrible. Today, we ordered doordash hoping it would be better, sadly no the food came with all containers smashed (I know, it more than likely was the deliver service) but the food, my GOD China dragon, PLEASE just close, your going to make people sick selling this stuff.. Spokane needs a quality Chinese restaurant Like New Harbor which was a pretty darn good place, but they retired, good for them. Wish someone would take Chinese seriously in our town, and do it justice. If I'd thought of taking a picture I would have posted, most all the food we tossed in trash. Even my pouch wouldn't eat this stuff.

Deyonna B.

Yelp
I just ordered take out of a combination dinner and was underwhelmed. The special chow mein noodles were overcooked and gummy tasting and hardly had any vegetables. I paid almost $25 and couldn't even eat it. My family and I would always frequent this place and it used to be SO much better!
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
Ordered here through food delivery service DoorDash. It said food was ready before it actually was. The server explained to me this was because they can't update the time once they print out the receipt. Perhaps DoorDash should look into that, but the server was super nice and apologized. We picked up the food instead of had it delivered. I ordered the 3 entree combo and my fiance ordered the pork fried rice and asked to add chicken but they didn't do it. But no biggie. Super good food, loved the egg flower soup! Location is in Hillyard, the neighborhood I grew up in. I think the building used to be St. Vincent DePaul at some point. Anyway, it's not very roomy but they do seem to have the seating layout perfected. Literally "a hole in the wall little restaurant", but in a good way.
google avatar

Abraham M.

Yelp
Good..not great, Waited about an hour for our food. Ordered a large order of beef and broccoli Large almond chicken Sides of pork fried rice And white rice (best part of the meal) -Beef and Broccoli the portion size was plenty, Flavor was way off too salty and for some odd reason theres a fishy taste to the dish as if the previous cookware wasn't cleaned out all the way it before making the beef and broccoli. Meat was cooked okay and so were the broccoli. Almond Chicken portion size was great. The flavor was lacking on all cylinders, very bland almost tasteless. The sauce was super thick and a lot of the chicken was overcooked/dry. Overall disappointed. Pork fried rice, Okay portion, super dry pork and lacking enough pork to rice ratio. No egg in the pork fried rice, no greens at all no little green onions. Sort of boring rice. White rice was well traditional white rice, it was fluffy and light. Portion was solid but pretty sad that this was the best part of the meal. Over all, highly disappointed. Couldn't finish my plate, gave it to the neighbors now I'm looking for something else to eat. Update* neighbors were appreciative but agreed with my review
google avatar

Don A.

Yelp
Very very old and dry food. Nothing special about the special chow neon. Just dry noodles. Maybe a sliver or two celery but no noticeable vegetables of any other kind. Everything else was dry or old. I feel they take advantage of to go orders.
google avatar

Cindy E.

Yelp
Worst Chinese food we've ever had. The only redeeming quality was that the service was great. The food is not authentic or good. All the dishes I had tasted like it came from a can or the freezer. Their idea of Chow Mein is a pile of celery with shreds of lunch meat on top of crunchy noodles. No one in my family could finish their food and we will not be going back. Panda Express is so much better! Such a disappointment.
google avatar

Angeline M.

Yelp
Our family just spent$130 on a meal for four family members for a late lunch to go. When we arrived home my lunch order F was missing. When we called, the very rude Asian woman hung up on my husband and then when he called back basically called him a liar! Said that order F was not on the ticket when we were all sitting here when he ordered it. The food was horrible except for the fried prawns and BBQ which was dry. We don't plan on ever going back because of the terrible food but I would not have bothered with a review if they had not treated my husband like that!! Anyone saying their food is delicious has no tastebuds and probably is a fake review. I rather eat dog ****.Thrown in the trash where it belongs.

Lauren F.

Yelp
Decided to give this place a try. The food was bland and wasn't anything like other reviews stated. The server my mother and I had was rude and treated my mother as if she was dumb and didn't know what she was talking about when ordering her food. Very mediocre, not worth the price, and just overly unsatisfied. I wouldn't recommend this place, even if it was the last place open.
