"Resident until 2020, Peiran Gong and Tongtong Ren’s stint in Brockley takes impetus from travel around China in the wake of the duo’s residency at the Mountgrove Bothy in Islington last year. Dishes are not fixed, but so far include drunken crayfish, kungpao chicken with girolles, and beef and tomato dumplings, with the vibe more dining room than restaurant. Salthouse Bottles is a good option for BYOB — the £40pp price tag includes corkage." - Helen Graves

Really fantastic food and flavours - one of my favourite meals this year. Set menu at £35 was really reasonable for the quality of food, I think they gave us 5 or 6 dishes. BYOB, with wine pairings available from Salthouse across the road. I believe they have extended their residency to February 2020, so great to have them in Brockley!

Fantastic. One of the most interesting culinary experiences I've had recently. Also great at accommodating dietary requirements. Our pesceterian/dairy free dishes felt every bit as adventurous and enjoyable as the standard options people were having alongside us. And trust me there was nothing "standard" about anything they served. Spot on. We'll be back :)

We came on Sunday evening for a great dinner. The food was really interesting with lots of fabulous flavours. Overall a great experience although there was at least half an hour between two of the courses - I'm not sure if they forgot about us however at the end we were rushed out as we had overrun our allotted time and were made to feel like it was our fault! I will come back for hopefully a better service experience.

This place is really cute and the staff are lovely however I agree with the odd review that this place is way too small feels like you are sat on a another tables knee. In terms of the food some of it was great a lot of it wasn’t. Overly heavy with textures that dont compliment often tasted a bit sickly. For 40 pounds a head for 7 sharing plates I expected this to be much much better, definitely overly priced. And both of us felt sick after. Feel a bit robbed to be honest.

We are fortunate to have this pop up in Brockley for 6 months. The food was not your average Chinese by a long way. We had 6 courses and every one was a true delight. Very hard to choose a favourite from the lamb dumplings, tuna tartare or the sea bass. Each one had amazing flavours and just the right amount of spice to give you that lift. We brought the wine from the lovely shop across the road and I have to say need to go back again before it closes at the beginning of August. Truly lovely experience.

Came here last night for the Chinese Pop Up experience but unfortunately it didnt meet up to expectations. Service was relatively slow and then we were asked to leave promptly after out last course making it feel rushed. Whilst the food was nice it was lacking in flavour for us and was very skimpy in terms of quantity - alot of decoration and not alot of food. The prices have also been raised which wasnt effectively communicated and from what I can see of other peoples pictures, the food hasnt been changed to reflect the premium. £40 without alcohol for what we paid for was definitely over stated and a lot of the dishes lacked basic seasoning making it quite bland. A great concept that was authentic but lacking in delivery on quite a few levels. Sorry to be negetive but its a fair review in my opinion.

If you like your food salty and swampy then this is the place for you, with a dodgy tummy to boot once you get home. Balance of offerings is all wrong, way too heavy throughout, no lightness of touch. Charming people but strictly for gullible millennials. Shabby tiny crammed shop setting with bad acoustics. Keep your £40 a head (service extra, bring your own wine) and head elsewhere.

Definitely one of the most experimental restaurants in what is a residency until February 2020 for Chinese Laundry. The 7 course tasting menu in this very small restaurant is a pleasure on your taste buds as well as your pocket. Co-owned by local businesses in Brockley the venue itself is excellently placed by Brockley station and easy to get to from the East London Line as it is locally known. After the brief MotherFlipper pop-up taking residency earlier this year, another stalwart of the food market scene in Brockley. The buzz and excitement of the newly announced Asian, specifically Chinese food Trendsetter, Chinese Laundry taking up residency in May was going to be a must visit. This was our second visit and one that closely but not exactly matched the first. They offer a changing tasting sharing menu and has dishes such as tofu and finely chopped chives. The crayfish, served whole like mini lobsters with a wonderfully fragrant dipping/slurping sauce made for a fun and finger licking freshwater course. The chickens feet and chicken thigh pieces with chilli, garlic and Ginger challenged most diners but not us. My view of chickens feet is that they require a lot of effort for a small reward. The first part I maintain but the flavours from the skin, sliithers of tendon and fatty meat from this Chinese delicacy was worthy on this occasion. Prepared differently from this dimsum staple and a less messy version. More dishes on this menu such as the mackerel and pork dumplings in tahini were exquisite. The dessert was a fresh summer dish of soft tofu, apricot grenata and cubed watermelon with a hint of coconut and topped with a borage flower. The meal was a delight and the two hours at the table flies by as you eat your way through food you might eat in a Chinese provincial home. With a constantly changing menu it wont be too long before we visit again.
