Chino Yang's - Review - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Chino Yang’s is a late-night Chinese-American spot in the Richmond named after the eponymous owner and Bay Area rapper. It’s open until midnight every day of the week except Wednesday and has a large menu with staples like cumin beef, shrimp with scrambled eggs, and honey walnut prawns. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

I brought my family here and everything was sooo good! The flavors are authentic and full of that real Hunan (湘菜) spice and aroma — just the right balance of heat and freshness. Every dish tasted homemade with high-quality ingredients. The service was friendly and fast, and the whole atmosphere felt warm and welcoming. Highly recommend for anyone craving real Chinese comfort food — especially Hunan-style lovers! We’ll definitely be coming back again soon!

Weekday dinner with friends in SF! Heard about this spot for authentic Hunan food, so we had to try. The smoked beef and ribs were flavorful and unique. ✨ Must-tries: sour long beans with chicken gizzards (perfect with rice!), stir-fried beef with sirloin (tender and real quality), and the classic couple’s beef & tripe. Spice level is lighter than traditional Hunan—my Cantonese friend found it spicy, but I thought it was just right 😋. The owner is super friendly and makes you feel at home!

My experience here is unforgettable, the foods reminded me from my hometown China. I been eating around the bay Area, and there's no "authentic" Hunan food like this place. The service is good, but sometimes little bit busy, the foods came little bites longer, but it worth the wait. I highly recommend!!!👍👍👍

Came here to meet Chino Yang and left feeling so satisfied from the Eggplant dish. Amazing flavors with plenty of heat. The fried chicken is also a stand out dish and must try.

Google
From Andy the owner to everyone I’ve met on staff, phenomenal. I’ve had the great opportunity to eat here 3 times in the last week it has been perfect every time. Gorgeous looking and even better tasting meals. Zero complaints but they are closed on Wednesday and I’m standing out front. Sad. Will return Friday. 💯

Google
A great restaurant, the food tastes very authentic! I ordered garlic ribs, Picked long bean with minced pork , beer duck, big bowl of cauliflower, and every dish was so delicious! I love it, absolutely recommend, I will come again!

Google
Tastes quite similar to what you would find in any restaurant in Hunan. We basically plowed through all the dishes and had a great time chatting with the staff!

Google
Super authentic and delicious spot with funny branding. TVs had a food show going that made us even hungrier. Loved the texture of the tofu and Szechuan chicken and flavors were excellent. Not exceedingly spicy. We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
The crab rangoon is a must have here, service is great the waiters are very friendly, and the ambiance here is very pleasant.

Yelp
Came here with several friends for a special event on a Thursday night, and we are thankful we reserved in advance since the restaurant was crowded and had plenty of people waiting outside around the time we left. Beef Fish Fillet: tender, flavorful, spicy but good balance Hunan Fried Rice Noodles with Pork: personally my least favorite and the seasoning was okay Sizzling Japanese Egg Tofu with Minced Pork: This was almost everyone's favorite dish! The tofu was soft and silky, and the pork was rich and savory. All the ingredients stood out well in this dish. Hunan-style Twice-Cooked Pork: strong spicy-salty kick! Garlic Lettuce Stem: I loved this vegetable choice our group made since it balanced the richness and spiciness of all the other dishes.

Yelp
Ordered the chili chicken wings with bone in. It looked like I would need some yogurt to put the fire in my soul out but it was pleasantly hot and tasty ! Chino looks skinnier and younger than his YouTube Rap video. He was welcoming and really interesting to speak with. He jokes with his customers and describes his food with great fun and flair! His words; " I'm bringing back great Chinese food to the masses." He is intensely aware of his culture, the youth, and the working people of this city. He wants to make it better. Check this restaurant out and you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Fantastic neighborhood spot for Chinese food. The hunan specialty dishes pack so much flavor in every bite! Garlic cumin spare ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, and the fish was perfectly crispy. Both had a nice kick from the chilis without being overly spicy. Honestly drooling just writing this ...

Yelp
My and my partner both love Chino's! Each time we are in San Francisco, we always have to eat here. The food is great and the service is impeccable. Our favorites each time are the chicken chow mein, and salt & pepper wings! Food comes out fast as well. Great environment as well. Top recommendation!

Yelp
This was our first visit, and we'll be back. Great Hunan food. We tried 3 dishes: Chili dry fried chicken (boneless) this was good but if I were to get it again I suspect the bone in would be more juicy Mashed eggplant with green peppers and a century egg - this arrived with a big mortar and pestle for us to muddle. Though it took a little work, the eggplant and other veggies looked beautiful--if they had been mashed for us we would have not seen the colors as much. We really enjoyed this dish. Unlike the other two, it was not spicy. Minced pork with pickled long beans. This was our favorite dish. For less adventurous eaters, there was a second menu with "Classic Chinese Food" With things like twice cooked pork, dumplings, etc.

Yelp
This place is Bussin good! I've only posted two photos of the food I've eaten here. Why? Because the food is so good, I completely forgot to take pictures of the other dishes I've eaten to post it. I've always had the chili fried fish that's off the hook good! That's my goto dish everytime I come here. Also has Peking ribs that I love. Once more people hears about this place, it's going to be off the chain. Love eating here.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious meal overall. Honestly we made the mistake of ordering everything hunan style so everything had the same flavor profile but it was still great. I do recommend the mashed eggplant with green pepper and century egg as my favorite! Server opted to let us mash it which was pretty cool. The cumin lamb comes in as a close 2nd as I need my protein. So much ingredients and flavor went into it was perfect and especially if you love spicy food. Only issue was that the ribs were overcooked and a little dry but other than that, may have to come back to try some of their other non hunan dishes.

Yelp
Came here on an evening after walking around Golden Gate Park, they're pretty nearby so if you're looking for a good spot to eat after I'd recommend it! Food(5/5): we got the squid and lamb with chili and both were really good! Both were flavorful and not too spicy. The squid was really tender compared to other restaurants! Service(5/5): service was lively and friendly, the owner gave everyone in the restaurant a chicken wing to try out and it was really good and crunchy. We did make a reservation beforehand but still had to wait a bit but it wasn't a long wait so it was ok. I think it's more of a waitlist but I definitely recommend joining before heading there since the restaurant is small and busy. Ambiance(5/5): it's really lively and seems groups / family come here to have dinner. Everyone is chatting and enjoying food.

Yelp
If Chino Yang's had been around after an epic night at Plough & the Stars I might not have made out with a guy from Dentsu Japan: I would've been eating drunchie fantastic food from Chino Yang's, open late for late night cravings. I wanted to be surprised so I didn't ask about the preparation of Peking Pork Chops ($15.50). I popped open the container and took a bite- scallopini'd pieces of sweet & sour pork goodness (you must get!) Prawns with string beans ($17.95, with lots of big, plump, delicious shrimp), perfectly wok-tossed and crunchy with just the right amount of oil. The Sichuan peppercorn-infused steam from Mapo Tofu knocked me back and I did a happy dance for the mala taste to come ($15.50). Everything was great but I have a preference for the way Chino Yang's sister restaurant Kung Food prepares its chicken fried rice. I like thin, juicy slices of chicken; Chino Yang's dices it and it tastes dry. Make it like Kung Food! "Red" is the color theme of Chino Yang's which will not only wake you up but if behavioral science holds, encourage you to eat more. Hey, you're in the right place: Order a lot of food, eat well and have leftovers for breakfast.

Yelp
Quality/Quantity - Soup - Complimentary - If you are following, you know I am not a soup person, but this was good. I especially liked the plump generous size mushrooms. Chef's Special, Cumin Lamb - Wow, this was so good and with just the correct amount of spice. Good enough heat that does NOT hurt, but enough that keeps you coming back for more, lol. Generous portions, took half of it home. Both my guest and I could not stop eating this. Pickled Vegetable & Pork Noodle Soup - You get a choice of rice or flour noodles. My guest chose flour, which just happens to be my preference also. The waitress suggested we get mild, good suggestion. Just the correct amount of spice for this dish as well. The dish was interesting and good, but not as good as my above choice. Lots of different flavors and textures from the fresh crispy veggies to the peanuts, etc. We each got a small bowl. Take a look at our leftovers, it looked like we did not even eat a bite. The cumin lamb was just so good! Complimentary hot tea - Good. Atmosphere - Small local business, actually Chino's second one; congrats. Plenty of street metered parking, but we just walked. Open 6 days a week from 11am to 9:30pm; closed Wednesdays. Service - 5 stars. From greeting to checking up on use. They made sure restaurant was not too cold for my guest, closed the front door for her. They also gave good food suggestions. Even packaged my guest's leftovers for her. Then the bill came, and there was a discrepancy; the check did not match the menu price... Why is this happening SO often? She sincerely apologized for the owner, and corrected it immediately. In my opinion, this is exactly how employees should be trained. See my 3 star Linda Patria, Vallejo, CA Yelp review and let me know if you feel they handled it correctly?!?! And if my rating was accurate? Price - $41 + tip. 5% cash discount. Owner Comment - I appreciate it when 5 star businesses live up to their ratings. Even when "things" happen, like pricing discrepancies. It is not what happens to us, it is how we handle it and what we do about it. Congrats on your success at this location since October of 2024 and your Kung Food location since 2015. We will be regular customers.

Yelp
It was late and we were going to hit up this pub on Geary, but we weren't even greeted at the door by anyone. We felt so unwelcome that we left. I don't think I've ever felt so out of place. Almost like landing on another planet! Went back on Yelp and found another late night spot, Chino Yang's! They're open till midnight and only a 10 minute drive away. We jumped back into the car despite not knowing what to expect, but we were greeted warmly by Jamie. Such a different experience from earlier when we were completely neglected! Chino Yang's just opened 10 days ago by her cousin. He had another restaurant but the window kept getting smashed so he moved the restaurant here in the Richmond, but it's been slow. Hopefully, word will get out about their delicious food! ***OUR PICKS*** COMBINATION PLATE APPETIZER ~ Egg rolls, wings, crab rangoon, potstickers. Everyone dug right in and it was gone before I could take a shot! 5/5 GREEN ONION PANCAKE ~ that was gone too! 5/5 BASIL EGGPLANT WITH CHICKEN AND PRAWNS ~ Seasoned well and tasty. Eggplant was a bit undercooked, but chicken was tender. 4/5 STRING BEANS AND BEEF ~ flavorful dish and a generous portion. 4/5 KOREAN CHICKEN WINGS (10) ~ honestly one of the best chicken wings we've had. We have gone to Korean restaurants that don't even serve wings as good as these. They were big, juicy, and still crispy even after coating it in sauce. And the sauce wasn't too sweet. Just perfect! All of us LOVED the wings!!! 5/5 CHICKEN CHOW FUN ~ this dish was complementary, nonetheless a good dish, though just a tad oily. 4.5/5 While sitting there, we got to know Jamie. She made all of us feel at ease and comfortable making our experience even better. She showed us a music video of her cousin rapping about his restaurant, which was vandalized on McCallister and Divisidero. Hopefully he has better luck in this area. We're glad we decided to try Chino Yang's! Cant wait to go back for more wings and also try other things on their menu!!

Yelp
Chino Yang's is open and we decided to come by and support a newly opened neighborhood business. Owner of this business is same as Kung Food. He's a local restaurateur and a Rap Artist who famously put out a diss track aimed at the SF Mayor for failing to protect the Asian-American community. Coincidentally, on the eve we were at Chino Yang's, we leaned from watching a news clip that a legacy business, El Faro (a famous Mexican taqueria that were granted legacy business status just a few months ago) had three break-ins within a span of a week amassing $20K in losses. And now they are looking to sell. Makes one wonder. All that aside, our experience at Chino Yang's was great! The owner, Andy Yang himself served us on the eve we visited. Because it was soft opening, we got some complimentary dishes like the delectable chow mein (we requested with veggies because we were ordering a lot of meat dishes already). And he also gave us a small appetizer of salt & pepper chicken wings (4 pcs) that was so crispy and delicious. For mains, we opted for the cumin beef, broccoli beef, and shrimp with egg. And an add of white rice. My husband thought the broccoli beef was not very salty yet still flavorful which he appreciates. We thought the cumin beef has the heat and tasted great. And although the shrimp and egg were slightly saltier, it was also delicious. I have to mention that all the portions were huge. We had a lot of leftovers for a few meals afterwards. Ambiance and service friendly. Located on Clement between 19th and 20th Avenues.

D M.

Yelp
We went there for an impromptu dinner and definitely did not get disappointed. It was nice chilly and foggy evening and we walked down Clement Street to find this gem. We arrived and Chino came out and told us our wait would be about 15 minutes. We had a chance to check the menu before sitting down to speed up the ordering. We ordered the mashed eggplant, deluxe dry pot with fish and lotus root, fried chicken and hunan noodles. The food was delicious and spicy good. Meeting Chino was the highlight of the night, especially after he told us his story about growing up in the city along with Asians and Hispanics. And, how his nickname came to be. We had a great experience and we hope to go back again. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Chef Chino is very personable. We ordered for take out over the phone. Ordered 4 dishes and rice: combination Won Ton soup had a nice broth but the won tons were very doughy. We ordered beef chow fun but when we arrived were told they did not get their noodle order but offered to substitute thin rice noodles. We were told it would be spicy. It was not. It ended up being spaghetti and not very fanciful. The Hunan crispy dragon beef was not crispy more like dry beef. The chili dry fried fish fillet was nice and salty but not very spicy. It was my favorite of the 4 dishes. When we got home we discovered they forgot the rice. The menu is quite extensive I think they would be well served by condensing the menu so they can be more focused on making the dishes that they do offer the best they can make.

Yelp
I was in the neighborhood and found Chino's with the help of Yelp. Chino was super friendly and provided great customer service. I tried a few dishes from the salt and pepper chicken wings to the steamed dumplings that Chino said were handmade in the restaurant to the beef chow fun. All were tasty and I enjoyed the dumplings the most. The restaurant had a cool and colorful vibe and I thought the use of the vinyl record albums as interior design was creative.

Yelp
What a wonderful wonderful personality restauranteur Chino! As our group sat down to eat delicious smelling dishes , Chino actually left the kitchen and personally came to our table! A rarity these days to be greeted and checked on by the owner! Chino honestly cares about his customers and the food he serves. Customer Service 5 stars Cleanliness 4 stars String Beans with chicken . Stir fried chicken strips with string beans in sauce. 4 stars Crispy fried chicken wings glazed with a savory sauce, garnished with chopped green onions and carrot slices 5 stars Mapo tofu with Minced Pork Soft tofu & ground pork in savory bean sauce. Yelp
New restaurant in the area! We had a late dinner and the only restaurants that are open during that time was limited. Chino Yang's is good comfort Chinese American food for a midnight, late dinner. The portion sizes are quite large (love that). Nothing really stands out in particular, but it hits the right spot for late night dinner.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is fan! Service is great. Ambience has great local flavor! Yummy food! Noodles!
google avatar

Christine F.

Yelp
The sautéed green beans are delicious! They were flavorful and maintained their crisp. We also got the shu mai, which were a good size, but I'd prefer to get 4 smaller ones in the order rather than 3 larger ones. Our last item was general tso's chicken, and there were many different sized pieces. Portion sizes were generous, and they're open til late which is rare for this neighborhood. I'll gladly order for them again.

Yelp
Chino Yang 晓川哥 Chinese Food & Freestyle King Kung Food second location in SF. He was on the front line for Chinese right. Also he's peaceful and kind to everyone. I highly recommend this restaurant if you looking for nice Chinese cuisine. My colleague love very much. Please support local small business. Love and peace.

Brandon K.

Yelp
I tired editing my review, no shot. Just went back same day as I posted recently and it was the same quality food as before!! Had the spicy cauliflower pork and the amount of pepper would make most people blush! Sooooo fuckin good! The fried pork spare rib app was on point and had a solid mix of meat n fatty pieces! Scrambled egg n beef is a staple at many Chinese spots and this one is a solid 5/5 for perfectly cooked eggs and tender strips of beef! The string beans were crunchy and savory. Last but not least, the spicy squid n pork was amazing! Very solid meal, exactly as I remembered the quality!! Will return soon!

Andrew K.

Yelp
Dang Chino Yang's! Seriously legit Hunan food. Proper flavors and spice across the board. Get the frog. The place is always popping. Awesome owners.

Yelp
Food tasty so good. My husband love spicy food. The service is great. We will be back . High recommend.

Yelp
Chino Yang's in San Francisco offers a vibrant and playful ambiance, enhanced by the presence of chef and rapper Andy "Chino" Yang. The food is delicious, featuring standout dishes like **dumplings with broth**, **lemon chicken**, **walnut prawns**, and **savory eggplant with shrimp**. We also had a special of spicy pig feet and XLB. The Korean wings were crispy and lick the plate delicious. Each dish is prepared with care, and the chef often shares engaging stories about his family. The atmosphere is fun, making it a great spot for a lively dining experience. We definitely plan to return for more culinary adventures! Yelp
Authentic Sichuan food, this is not a chinese restaurant that Americanizes its food. They also serve snow beer that pairs perfectly with everything they have on the menu. If you're adventurous, try the eggplant, thousand year old appetizer that comes in a mortar and pistol container that you smash at the table. Simply delicious!!!!

Yelp
Ok surprisingly good small restaurant with large menu which is usually not a great sign. HOWEVER, very accommodating staff and nice w/o being obsequious. We asked for low-on-sauce and low spice. BOTH were done w/o an issue and more importantly, w/o sacrificing the taste. This is a nice diner joint (TV on walls but not blasting), great selection (maybe only dumplings could use some help) and great staff. Popular spot too for very diverse clientele (and this is a good thing). We ordered some beef cube (very tender), korean shrimps (we asked for less spicy) that were good and WELL-COOKED (not chewy). Chow mein was great as well...

Yelp

Yelp
This place has great food and service. We had a group with a toddler. The adults loved the delicious twist on several traditional dishes. While we adults loved the crispy and fresh vegetables, the toddler preferred mushier veggies. When a very attentive waitres offered to blanch a portion of the veggies longer so the toddler would eat more, we were as ecstatic as the toddler. This place is awesome.

Wing W.

Yelp
Portion too small and pricey, dishes with meat were mostly veggies instead of meat, and stomachae right after meal Co-Owner Jamie assumed this is a fake review as an attack which is funny, if this is fake I would write longer, just don't want to waste my time for this, seeing your reaction is more funny, nice handling
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered takeout on a Monday night of general tso chicken, sautéed green beans, and sui mai. The green beans actually were the best part of the order as the chicken tasted as if it came from frozen. Maybe the experience would be better if we dined in? I'm pretty sure this used to be where AceKing was. The worker (maybe owner?) was pleasant and helpful upon pick up. I'd be willing to try again as their menu is huge with lots of variety. Sometimes this is a bad sign though

Yelp
What a nice surprise ! On a whim ordered take out be delivered . We tracked our orders progress right to our doorstep . Our food came well packed , hot and delicious. The portions were also generous. Will be a go to when in the neighborhood.

Yelp
After trying this place twice for takeout, we are pleasantly surprised and convinced that this is our new favorite Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood when we want a hearty delicious meal with the family. They excelled from cumin beef, Peking pork chop, to chow mein. Not sure why even the non authentic sounding dishes taste 5x better than those at Panda Express lol; must be the fresh ingredients and good cooking skills.

Cynthia B.

Yelp
This might just be my favorite Chinese restaurant in the city. Everything I've tried here has been so good with the perfect amount of spice, and the employees are so nice. Portions are generous, menu has a good variety, and the meat quality is noticeably better than other restaurants. My favorite dish here that I never fail to order is the pork knuckles! The hot and sour fish is also delicious but very spicy. They also have Snow beer which i don't see often
google avatar

Staci M.

Yelp
We just had the best dinner at Chino Yang's! We had the crab rangoon, hot and sour soup, garlic hunan eggplant, chef special beef, orange chicken and beef chow mein. The orange chicken was delicious! Hot, crispy, real orange flavor, some zest. Perfect spice level. Chef special beef also delicious and with nicely seasoned baby bok choy. Eggplant was also great. The crab in the crab rangoon was really good. Hot and sour soup on point. Everything was hot and fresh. And the soup and appetizer came out first! Rare in this neighborhood haha. Service was awesome. Really wonderful people here. I'm so glad they're in the neighborhood! AND reasonable prices! Fab all around.

Wei S.

Yelp
This is the first time I did a review for restaurants. I heard this restaurant food is so delicious and I did try it today it is so delicious as my customers said to me and I did love dry pot so tasty and I want to go back again to try more food and the owner is so nice too. Recommend this restaurant!!!

Yelp
Went to the grand opening today. As a Chinese I love the chicken wings and the string bean so much! It's really delicious must try!

Yelp
Great place! Relaxed, casual atmosphere, with a neighborhood feel; friendly folks; and delicious food. Love the VEGAN options. Huge menu, ton of variety, great flavors. Something for everyone, for sure. Recommended!
google avatar

Garret T.

Yelp
Food was fantastic! Had to support as Chino has been broken into so many times and targeted by vandals and burglars. Chicken wings both salt and pepper and Korean style are delicious. Onion pancakes, mushroom bok choy, eggplant, fried rice, every dish was heavenly.
google avatar

Charles L.

Yelp
Decent portions but in terms food quality, you are better off w Panda Express if you want Americanized chinese food. A lot of dishes seems to get a deep fry and served with a sauce. Too bad the old kebab skewers place got replaced by this.

Ivy L.

Yelp
Service was friendly and helpful. Didn't rush us out. There were 2 of us and plenty to take home. Took a little longer to serve but everything came out fresh and appetizing. Definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Heather C.

Yelp
Got takeout here and it was mediocre. The pot stickers were pretty good. Dough was a little thick but filling was good. Crab Rangoon was gross. Dough was way too thick, filling was too sweet, and it was fake crab. Sesame chicken, salt and pepper chicken wings, and chicken fried rice were ok but bland. Too bad, I was expecting better based on the reviews so far.
google avatar

Carine W.

Yelp
The food is super yummy! Our favorite dish is the salt and pepper shrimp. The wontons in the wonton soup is delicious.

Yelp
In Chino Yang We Trust. First off I have heard about Chino Yang and when I came to this restaurant the food was absolutely amazing. I love their korean chicken wings, chow mein, and fried rice. Everything on their menu is fire there is no way you could go wrong when eating here. Jamie is the waiter that helped us and she made us feel so welcome. She made great recommendations and handles her job very professional and fast. Love the staff at this restaurant and would recommend to everyone. Also a great part of this restaurant is they have vegetarian options that taste amazing. Thank you Chino Yang

Yelp
In a city where there are countless options for restaurants, and for someone who lives 120+ miles from SF, I almost always try a different resto unless the food, service, and vibe truly standout. I visited Chino Yang's a couple of months ago and went back tonight. Chino (the owner) is friendly and attentive without being intrusive. There are 2 types of menu: American Chinese and legit Chinese dishes or the ones you can only order if you can read Chinese/Hanzi. But here, both menus come in English. I asked for recommendations from the Chinese menu and he asked if I like intestine. I said I eat everything. "Surprise me!" I said. What I got was this wok of steaming mixed veggies with squid tentacles, crispy fried pork intestines, and thinly sliced beef tongue. It was spicy but full of flavor. Veggies were perfectly cooked and the meats were tender. And the serving was enough for 4-5 people. I also ordered to-go kung pao prawns, combination chow mein, Mongolian beef, and general Tsao's chicken from the American menu for my family. Everything was delicious! And they do not use MSG. Chino Yang's is now my favorite Chinese restaurant in SF and I'll be coming back for sure.

Yelp
Popped in to Chino Yang's the other night. Ordered Broccoli Beef, Hot and Sour Soup and Eggrolls. We received a complimentary fried rice as a grand opening promotion. The food was so delicious. Everything felt fresh, clean, and in a way it felt lighter than similar dishes at other Chinese restaurants. Flavor profiles were on point. V Good quality. Jamie, one of the owners, helped us and we had a nice time chatting w her. This will be a new go-to spot for sure
