The Best Hot Chocolate In Chicago

"The signature hot chocolate at Chiqueolatte is less of a drink and more of a full-on dessert that requires forks, spoons, and probably lots of napkins. Yes, you could get it unadorned as a regular drink. But it’s significantly more fun to bring a few friends to this Logan Square cafe and share the “Van Gogh”—a towering mason jar of sweet, chocolatey liquid topped with your choice of a brownie, donut, or waffle, and finished with an entire country’s supply of whipped cream and chocolate shavings." - veda kilaru, adrian kane

Chiqueolatte Review - Logan Square - Chicago - The Infatuation

"More is more at Chiqueolatte, a Logan Square coffee shop with over-the-top chocolate drinks and specialty lattes that sound like you’re reading off a dessert menu. Yes, there’s the usual smattering of straightforward coffee, sandwiches, and toasts. But we’d return for the more unusual options, like the sweet corn or mango sticky rice latte that comes with layers of whipped rice pudding, mango coconut sauce, and a sprinkling of sesame seeds. It’s surprisingly well-balanced, and not as sugary as you’d expect. For everyone interested in the other end of the sweet spectrum, there’s the “Van Gogh”—a towering hot chocolate, topped with your choice of a brownie, donut, or waffle, and finished with an entire country’s supply of whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Get it to share with a few friends who make “loving chocolate” their whole personality, but work fast before the whole delicious monstrosity collapses in on itself. photo credit: Veda Kilaru" - Veda Kilaru

Where to Drink Chicago’s Most Heartwarming Hot Chocolates

"This Logan Square cafe opened in 2020, the first U.S. location for the mini-chain from Europe. The cute cafe serves sandwiches, and while there are tons of espresso drinks, the variety of hot chocolates — vanilla, dark, white, and hazelnut — all made with high quality ingredients, make it a great spot for those who want choices." - Naomi Waxman, Eater Staff

Google
Adorable spot with tons of seating and charging ports. A good place to WFH. The seating was extremely cute with the little booths. I tried the walk through the garden and loved it. The lavender, elderberry, and rose were perfectly balanced. Nothing was over powering or overly sweet. They have a wide variety of specials and regular drinks. They also have for here glasses! I’ll be back again to try more!

Google
Super cute, aesthetic cafe! I fell in love with the interior design. They have a variety of food options in their menu along with their caffeinated and decaffeinated drinks with a long list of flavors for their coffee. The staff were very welcoming. The food were all delicious! Love their latte. Pay to park street parking available. I definitely recommend checking this coffee shop out.

Google
The knafeh latte was amazing! Very cute vibe, cozy chairs. I love the seating that looks like little houses. Could do without the obvious political bent, but I don’t choose where to eat or drink based on that.

Google
LOL WHAT? I thought I was going to just grab a chill coffee, but when I saw they offered these mega wack creations I had to try it. I’m really glad I did - mango sticky rice latte. What a masterpiece. Good vibe too. Sat and worked for a while comfortably

Google
Cute coffee shop to chill in and get some work done. I tried their cold brew with oatmilk and lavender. It was great. Gets pretty busy but there was enough seating.

Google
I recently visited Chiqueolatte and was throughly impressed! Not only was the ambiance charming and inviting, but the food surpassed all expectations. I'll recommend it to everyone I know. Definitely worth a visit!!

Google
Such a cute cafe! If you’re looking to replace your Starbucks because if the boycott, then this is a great 🍉 🇵🇸 friendly place to go instead! My only wish is that it had more available seating. I’ve never been able to snag a seat since people come work there all day and never leave. Maybe putting a time limit on people would be beneficial, because they buy like one coffee and stay 5+ hours. I know that’s just how cafes work tho so no fault of the workers there!! - Alternative milks are available - has 10+ flavors for syrups and fully customize ur drink - the matcha is decent quality and tastes good - the vibes are super cute

Manu G

Google
Hip coffee place with a small but exquisite selection of cakes and treats. We couldn’t snag a place to sit, so I had to take my banana bread to go. It was delicious, a tat underdone, would have paired nice with a coffee and a table inside 😄

Yelp
Going off a brief visit here - pleasant interior with shaded outdoor seating. Staff was very kind and knowledgeable about their entire selection of locally sourced pastries. Shop seems very in tune with the community also - lots of events and flyers on the wall. I always love to see cafes existing in the context of the people that make it. Knafeh latte - was very dry interested in trying this. Nice that it came iced with macadamia nut milk, though it seems you can swap. House made knafeh cream was delicious, but it was thick. No wonder why they included a spoon with the drink. I could see it being a problem if you wanted to fully mix the cream in, because it tends to clump. But with the toasted kataifi and pistachios on top, this drink is a real treat. Altogether it's not too sweet either. Located down Milwaukee, this is a great place to sit down for a conversation or get some work done. They have some novelty lattes that really caught my attention, but can add up and aren't drinks I'd typically opt for. Good experience for the one time though.

Yelp
Needed some caffeine in the late afternoon and Chiqueolatte was nearby. It's cool how the you can sit down and order from the QR code. There's a lot of customization, however the price adds up. Be careful because they add the tip to your tab and you won't notice how less you specifically go see what the breakdown is. You also want to close out your tab once you're done or it will have the automatic tip added. That's what I forgot to do and it charged me the present amount. I ordered an iced white mocha latte and my boyfriend got an iced caramel latte. My drink was decent but I wouldn't say it's worth the price. The caramel latte was extremely sweet and a bit much. The barista was extremely nice though. We got a cookie on the house. The cookie actually was good! The coffee here is eh, but I'm sure the food is better.

Yelp
Knafeh Latte - would get again without the whipped cream and toasted kataifi but it was aesthetically pleasing! Cannoli Waffle with strawberries and mint - it was a special and it was great! Decided to check out this coffee shop on a WFH day. Great set up. Would recommmend!

Yelp
Stumbled across this cafe while visiting Logan square for their farmers market. They have a seasonal menu for different flavor latte which is what intrigued me to try. I tried the knafeh latte which I requested for the coffee to be less sweet because the cream on top of the latte was sweet enough for me. The drink was actually really good with a hint of nut flavor, the cream was not overpowering. The base coffee good. Overall it was a pleasant drink to try. I was surprised with the price of the drink which came out to be $9. It's a lot more than any other coffee I've tried. The cafe itself has a nice quiet ambience where you can work or chill. Service was good and polite.

Yelp
This was a nice cafe with a fair amount of seating. We splurged with the nonalcoholic specialty drink with a really tasty waffle. We enjoyed it, esports waffle. Wouldn't necessarily need to get it again but our curiosity has been satisfied. But it was a nice atmosphere and we'd definitely come back. Mom POV: it seems to be spacious enough to come in with baby in stroller. I did feel a little badly when he fussed as people seemed to be doing some work but he wasn't fussy for long. Just enough to telll us to please change him. Luckily there was a changing table.

Yelp
What a CUTE spot! I met with a coworker here and didn't do much research prior, which is rare for me. I was so pleasantly surprised with the adorable decor and warm ambiance. They have these little "tree house" seating options in the windows that are so fun and would be a great option to camp out and get some work done or have a coffee date! I pulled up their website to refresh my memory on the name of the drink I ordered and learned that their other locations are actually in Amsterdam, Dubai, and two other cities in the Netherlands...so cool! I went with the iced knafeh latte off the seasonal menu. The drink is a double shot of espresso and milk topped with housemade knafeh cream, toasted kataifi, and pistachios. The drink was creamy, toasted, and just sweet enough without it being overpowering. I was able to find metered street parking right out front which was really convenient. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu!

Yelp
Ok - major obsessed with the *vibes* here. The cutest ambiance and atmosphere ever. Comfy seating and a wide variety of seating options. They also bring out your coffee to you on a cute little branded wood board. I'm telling you the vibes here were **chefs kiss** and very instagrammable. I deff want to swing back here and get some work done. Lots of folks were here with laptops so seems like a good place to hunker down and get stuff done. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great place to study, A lot of spaces to sit and good choice on music. We got a few drinks. I somehow decided on the rembrandt and it was worth the price if you want something sweet.

Yelp
I came here to grab a late lunch with my friend because we were visiting Chicago for Lollapalooza. The ambiance of the cafe is super cute and there were quite a few seats - you have the crowd who is there to work/study and others who came to eat and grab a coffee. The staff is super friendly and the southwest chicken focaccia sandwich was so damn good! The chicken was slightly dry but the whole sandwich worked and it was so warm and fresh! I really like the salad that came with it as well! We also ordered an açaí bowl for a balanced diet and shared and it was enough for two people. I also ordered an iced latte that came out in this super cute presentation. However my only gripe was that the service was pretty slow. I don't know if it was an understaffing issue or maybe I'm just inpatient but it took some time for us to get our food. Other than that this place is a vibe and I recommend it for some good small bites and coffee!

Yelp
I was looking for a place to grab a pick me up the other day in Logan Square and came across Chiqueolatte. One appeal was they had outdoor seating options and it was a nice day and that's pretty much what convinced my friend and I to go in. They have quite a variety of pastries, sandwiches, salads, and other food items, in addition to a variety of teas and coffee/ espresso base drinks. I got an iced masala chai latte which was decent, and not overly spiced or odd tasting, which can sometimes happen. My friend had an iced latte which she also enjoyed. The pastries were fine but they were slightly stale. I would come back for coffee but probably try something different to eat like a sandwich or featured toasty or bowl. We also didn't realize they had specialty lattes and the knafeh latte looked really good, which is something I'd want to try next time. The service was fast and attentive, and the ambience is very relaxed and seems like a great place to cowork from. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area.
google avatar

Kianoosh K.

Yelp
The service is fast and efficient but it could be a little friendlier. It took an effort to get a hello back from the cashier. Ambiance and the coffee are both good. Nice place to get some work done or sit with a friend.

Yelp
Excellent place for food and coffee. Friendly. Great ambience. Vegan and vegetarian options. Not crowded on an early winter Sat AM. I ordered the Ranchero Benedict and a Chai Oat Milk Latte. Eggs were cooked perfectly. Donuts were amazing. Service was quick. Easy metered parking outside. Bathrooms are gender neutral and clean. Will def come back again and try some of their intriguing special drinks!

Yelp
It's a cozy, it's warm, its the perfect place to endure a cold Chicago day. The playlist added to the relaxing vibes. They have the cutest seats by the window that look like tiny houses. I'd definitely come back to read a book here. The Chai and Matcha Lattes were good. The Chai was significantly better - it definitely had a kick to it. I'll come back for a latte next time :)
google avatar

Jenifer N.

Yelp
Great space to enjoy a coffee, tea or snack at any time of day. The salted chocolate chip cookie is outstanding, as is the cappuccino. Fun little reading nooks to sit in as well as comfy couches to lounge in.

Yelp
I've never been to a place that cuts off "dining in" a half our before the posted closing time. How unwelcoming. I showed up 35 minutes before, and unfortunately for me, the employee mumbled to me that my order would be packaged to go, but I didn't really here her clearly. I thought I had heard that this order wouldn't be able to be packaged to go. I ordered their Van Gogh signature hot chocolate. So obviously I could understand why it couldn't be packaged to go...But no, she said that it would be packaged to go. So when It was ready, the employee handed me a little brown paper bag and a cup with the hot chocolate. There are certain items that should never be made to go. For obvious reasons, their signature hot chocolates is one of them. I honestly left disappointed and sent them an email, the manager replied and defended their employee and their 30 minute rule. I guess the customer isn't always right.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and the Knafeh Iced Latte is a new favorite coffee drink. Excellent cafe in Logan Square. Recommend highly.

Yelp
Oh em geeeee. I absolutely loved my visit. I've been wanting to visit for two years prior to this visit. Found this wonderful cute spot on Instagram and definitely wanted to give it a go since their signature drink was hot chocolate. It's rare that an cafe establishment goes above and beyond for hot chocolate - everything is for coffee these days. Upon entering on a Saturday afternoon during what I thought would be peek hours, if was a decent size spacing with super cute velvet burnt orange and emerald green chairs/ decor. I instantly found a couple spots for seating and grabbed a spot. The cashier was super attentive and friendly when I entered and took my order. As my first time visiting, I felt he was patient and took the time to properly explain how things operate and what my options were. They even bring your drinks to your table! I ordered the Van Gogh hot chocolate with oat milk and my dessert choice was a brownie. You do have the choice of a waffle, donut or brownie just fyi. The drink is $14.50 and $16 and some change with tax. It's definitely cutest and filled with sugar. I devoured the entire thing. Y'all already know I'm returning so don't even ask! I would recommend any hot chocolate fan go here. Now I will say the hot chocolate itself it's the best but with all the other chocolate included it makes up for it tasting a smidge watery. Nonetheless, this place is bomb.

Yelp
This was by far the best coffee shop in Logan square, I will be going back every time. The environment of this place is really nice and there's a lot of seating. I got the pumpkin pie latte coffee and it was delicious, not overbearingly sweet. My friend got the specialty drink (the picture below) and it came with a stuffed waffle on top! The workers were super nice too. Like I said, I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
I live a short walk away from about a dozen coffee shops however, this one is by far my favorite!! I love the vibe inside- the seating is fun and the whole interior has a calming but high end feel. I come here a lot and i've tried a few things but my favorite drink is definitely an iced white mocha with oat milk (and sometimes i add toasted marshmallow syrup too... love) There's usually only one person working when i go so sometimes it can take a little bit of time if there's a line but it's so worth the wait. It's a good place to come work and just come to hangout! I'll probs be back everyday.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
This place has been on my list for dessert for a while but I never seemed to be in the area when they are open. My husband and I came here after brunch and split the Van Gogh which is a hot chocolate with donut and whipped cream and had a ton leftover which we were able to take home. In general I enjoyed the donut and topping better than the hot chocolate itself. I thought the donut was especially good bc there was glaze on the entire donut despite it being chocolate frosted. I would definitely come back to try the other sweets and potentially some of their sandwiches but I feel that the Van Gogh is a one time experience bc it is so indulgent.
google avatar

Joaquin S.

Yelp
Love the ambiance, great setup up to get some work done! I got the Mango Sticky Rice latte and although it was something unique in the sense of coffee, I really enjoyed it and highly recommend it. Barista was very friendly and quick with our orders too!
google avatar

Kathrine W.

Yelp
Such a fun coffee shop!! I went to chiqueolatte because I desperately needed WiFi and to get out of the cold and was so impressed. It's great to do work - there's music but it's not crazy loud, and the tables are spread out. They have seating in the back too so it wasn't crowded at all despite quite a few customers being in there. They have different types of seats - some are in cool little enclaves, some are at a bar, some are regular tables and some large tables. Love the variety! The barista was so friendly! I have a sensitive stomach so I couldn't commit to a whole corn latte but I really wanted to try it- I've never heard of that or had anything remotely similar. He was so kind and made me a mini corn latte so I could taste it. I ordered herbal tea for my main drink and the presentation was phenomenal- they bring it out in a little pot with a mini hourglass to keep track of the steeping time, along with a little card with an inspirational quote on it!! ADORABLE! I overheard some of the baristas talking about the seasonal lattes and it sounds like they do a lot of fun creative craft drinks. I will definitely be back to try more!
google avatar

Cristina R.

Yelp
Had the avocado toast and it was great. The chocolate frosted berry donut was delicious. Corn latte was tasty. Had one with espresso and one without. I favored the one without the coffee in it. You could taste the corn that way. My hubby enjoyed his sandwich too. There was only one person working taking the orders. At one point he was bombarded with customers and I felt bad. Did like the nice green stools, they added some color. It was a nice quiet spot to work at too.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cute, aesthetic cafe! I fell in love with the interior design. Yelp
Coffee and turkey sandwich are both delicious. Service is average - sometimes the baristas will cancel pickup orders through yelp or Ubereats so it's best to monitor those orders closely. Gets very busy in the afternoons and on weekends. Strong hipster vibes to match the neighborhood
google avatar

Paul M.

Yelp
Always good service and great staff. Wish they still served these amazing thick seemingly homemade pop tarts. Now that the Seinfeld movie is on seems like a perfect time to bring them back!
google avatar

Reyna R.

Yelp
Such a cute place to grab coffee with friends or to work from. Coffee could have been better but there was a large variety. The overnight oats and sandwiches were delicious.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
The acai bowl here is so so good. Super refreshing amd well made with all the toppings and would come back for another bowl! The plating and utensils were cute too. I love fruity drinks so to see that they could make a strawberry latte was pretty cool! I think it would've been more enjoyable if there was more syrup added as the taste was subtle towards the middle to end The turkey pesto sandwich was pretty tall and filled, but I wish was saucier as the ciabatta bread could use it. I ended up putting the side salad into the sandwich as that portion was pretty small. Some of the leaves were wilted or browning which is kinda unfortunate for the lack of attention to detail. However, I would like to come back to try another sandwich as the price was good for the portion size! The cafe is great for a place to study and do work in and was not overtly loud. A quick note is that some of the chairs are a bit on the taller side compared to the table.

Mark I.

Yelp
The avocado smoothie is an unappealing, liquified salad. The service was abhorrent as the lineup grew (I.e., speed was lacking), they lost tickets (I.e., gave products to people without knowing what goes to whom), and when asked about which products were for which customer, the Caucasian women with curly hair was very sassy and toxic in response. I loved their indoor wood seats and sitting outside on the patio would be lovely on a warm morning!
google avatar

Taylor M.

Yelp
Just stopped by in the morning with my friends for a quick pick me up before starting our day!! The atmosphere was very cozy (and the music was good if you care about that, I do haha) and the service was great. I got an iced vanilla latte with oat milk which was good but my friend got an iced white mocha with oat milk that was delicious!!! the donut was also very tasty. we'll definitely be coming again and trying more menu items!!
google avatar

Derria M.

Yelp
I wanted to update my previous review to give Chiqueolatte another shout-out. I recently had the chance to visit again, and as always, they hit the mark. This time I was on the hunt for an eggnog latte, and I was thrilled to find that Chiqueolatte had exactly what I was looking for. I also ordered an Americano that was also delightful . It was the perfect way to close out the year. As always the staff was helpful and the atmosphere was cozy and inviting. All in all, Chiqueolatte is one of my favorite cafes in the city.
google avatar

Polly R.

Yelp
Super friendly staff and excellent indoor decor. This is a great place to come and do work. They have a bunch of seating pods in the back that offer a bit of privacy. And the place is so cute! I wish I lived closer because I would totally WFH here. The coffee is great too. I got a large cappuccino with almond milk and it was around $6.50, which is pretty standard in todays environment. They have lunch options and a bunch of tasty looking treats as well.
google avatar

Anya B.

Yelp
This was such a cute cafe to stop in when I was in the area and too early for my dinner that followed. I'm not a coffee person, so I got a pot of tea and took a seat in one of the cute pods in the back to read and sip. If I wasn't eating right after, I would've wanted to try their baked goods too. Lots of people were sitting and working, so it was a good environment to sit and read.
google avatar

Peter C.

Yelp
Cute clean little place, their drip coffee options are all spectacular although on a recent visit I found my croissant slightly under cooked it was still tasty though
google avatar

Jeanette N.

Yelp
Good cup of coffee and friendly staff. I appreciate the cozy lighting and low level of music. Makes it a comfortable place to get some work done.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
This cafe was soooo cute. I looove the presentation of the drinks and the atmosphere of the cafe! they have these cuteintimate seating booths! And the drinks themselves are delicious! I didn't see the specialty lattes this time around but I'm so excited to try them out next time!! Will definitely be back the next time I'm in Chicago!!!

Erick M.

Yelp
very nice place good food. the matcha latte is delicious I highly recommend Avacado toast is good
google avatar

Evelyn C.

Yelp
I took my friends here, to try their famous drinks, and we loved it. The place is very comfortable with an amazing view (my opinion).

Ajla A.

Yelp
Had the persimmon waffle and it was amazing! The waffle was crunchy yet soft and the knufe creme was super tasty. I do have to add that finding seating was quite difficult and ordered it to go. Street parking is available.
google avatar

Celina G.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times and although I haven't had one of their signature drinks I've enjoyed both visits! The first time I had a corn latte which was different but tasty- as long as you like corn and I had a salad. I don't remember the name but the presentation was beautiful and I was super pleased with the size. The next visit I had the chocolate fondue which was a fun treat and the fruit was super fresh and shared a slice of the chocolate pistachio mousse cake. I'm usually not a big fan of chocolate cake but this one was super well done! The pistachio mousse was a great addition! I also tried the Brazilian lemonade which was super refreshing on a hot Chicago day! The cafe itself is super cute and has a back room where it seems like that's more where people go do work.
google avatar

Shelby F.

Yelp
One of my favorite little cafes. My wife and I stopped in here randomly one day and were won over by the turkey pesto sandwich on GF bread. She got a honkin' chocolate chip cookie which she was very pleased with. Service is lovely, from the folks taking your order at the counter to the cooks who bring out plates of food. I could see Chiqueolatte being loud at times between the music and every seat filled, but the plush chairs and booth padding help dampen the sound. The little house booths are absolutely charming! I wish I could pick up this cafe and relocate it to my neighborhood so I could go every day.
google avatar

Yelp
I love exploring coffee shops in different neighborhoods and super glad I found this place! Super cute little gem in Logan Square with versatile but limited seating (tables, booths, outdoor). Tables remain socially distanced right now because of COVID but I can imagine under normal circumstances there can be more people. Even so there were a fair amount of people there either doing work or just chatting with a friend. We got vanilla/caramel soy lattes which were both great and a glazed donut that hit just the right spot. They bring your order to your table on a cute paddle. I noticed they have a pretty extensive menu for a small coffee shop with plenty of sandwich and pastry options if you get hungry. It seems like they have some unique treats as well to satisfy any sweet cravings. The hot chocolate and fondue looks so fun! Their outdoor seating is perfect for people watching or just sitting and relaxing on a nice day. The interior seems perfect for working (outlets are plentiful!). I would definitely like to come back and do work here sometime.
google avatar

Nawal N.

Yelp
Very cute and cozy place for a nice cup of coffee or satisfy that sweet craving with a milk shake or fondue! I wish they stayed open late! I think 8pm Is way too early! Staff is very friendly and the fondue was delicious! Chocolate milk shake honestly tasted more like milk with barely any chocolate I was disappointed however the donut on the shake was pretty good!

Nhilven John D.

Yelp
Cute little place in Logan Square. Visited with a friend and got the lattes with oatmilk and almond milk, along with frosted cinnamon rolls. My friend says its the cutest coffee shop in the are and I agree. Will do a photoshoot here soon, great window lighting and decoration. Parking: street Seating: 2-4 people tables and booths

Yelp
Stop in and treat yourself to a masala chai latte. You've earned it. Spicy and sweet and warm...perfection. I really like the interior. Colorful, welcoming, and open, with plenty of seating. The service was really nice, too. My friend and I both got and LOVED the aforementioned latte as well as our treats (a truffle and a macaron). I'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Latifah A.

Yelp
Besides this place being adorable, I was not expecting their food to be so good! I highly recommend the spicy tuna sandwich. It was sooo good!
google avatar

Eda X.

Yelp
This place was full when I went. Every table but the bar was taken which speaks to its popularity. I get it the drinks and atmosphere is chic and dainty. I love the full drink menu and would come again for their croissants and cinnamon rolls!
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
Nothing not to love here. The space is clean and lovely. The barista is friendly and efficient. The overnight oats were delicious, filled with fruit and delicious. The coffees were presented beautifully and tasted great. I can't wait to come back and try more of their food offerings and of course I'll be back for the coffee.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Ever since my friend introduced it to me a couple months ago, I keep coming back! Not only is there a very cozy feel to the whole place (adore the little "house" seating areas!) but the food is also excellent. They have an excellent seasonal menu right now - I love their fig and Brie toast. I recently enjoyed their southwest chicken sandwich as well with their tomato soup. Honestly, I've enjoyed every sandwich I've had here. The staff here is always super kind and welcoming.
