Choco

"A delightful restaurant featuring an elegantly minimalist dining space, but one which has not lost its inherent, time-honoured authenticity. Here, chef Kisko García decided to create a connection with the barrio in which grew up, hence his creative cuisine (showcased on two tasting menus - Barrio Antiguo and Kisko García) that brings into the limelight the delightful flavours and aromas of the Valle de Los Pedroches and Villanueva de Córdoba – the Andalucía that had such a positive influence on his childhood. Locally sourced seasonal ingredients (organic wherever possible), fine flavours, teamwork and a positive attitude are all part of a delightful experience, which starts at the entrance, continues with an aperitif in the kitchen, and ends at your table in the dining room. A wine pairing option is also available." - Michelin Inspector

I regret to say that my experience at El Choco was disastrous. Shortly after eating there, my partner and I both started feeling violently ill, with symptoms of throwing up and diarrhea. The onset was rapid—by the time we finished our meal at around 5:30 pm, we were already suffering from food poisoning. In fact, I had to rush to the bathroom to throw up before leaving the restaurant, which was a first for me and, hopefully, the last. We contacted the restaurant to inform them of the issue, and it took them five days to respond. They claimed they were having problems with their email (which is a Gmail account), and dismissed our experience, stating that no other customers had reported issues. However, I find this hard to believe, especially given that the only food we had prior to our visit was a pizza 20 hours earlier and breakfast (quite simple and with different items for the two of us). Both my partner and I ate the same things, and we were affected in exactly the same way, making it hard to ignore the possibility of foodborne illness from this specific meal. After consulting with doctors, it was confirmed that the symptoms we experienced were consistent with a bacterial foodborne illness. The doctors specifically inquired about raw or undercooked seafood or fish, which we did consume at El Choco. Despite the food poisoning incident, I must acknowledge that the service was excellent, and the staff was friendly and attentive. However, the atmosphere was minimalist and simple, which I appreciate) but somewhat dull, and while the food was interesting, it was heavy and, unfortunately, led to our sickness. I truly wish I could recommend this restaurant, but based on our experience, I cannot. Food safety should be a priority, and it’s concerning that the restaurant seemed indifferent to the issue. I hope they take the necessary steps to ensure that this doesn’t happen to others.

The fine dining was an experience from start to finish. Every dish brought something to be surprised by, either presentation, ingredients, taste or all three. See for yourself in the sneak peak photos :) Well worth the Michelin star 🌟

Qe ate at the Michelin star restaurant, there is also a bar next to it. It was as expected, top food, amazing service and good price compared to similar places.

Córdoba, one of the most beautiful and culturally rich cities in the world! Do you want to taste it? At a Michelin level? Do not hesitate to book this place! Their food honors Córdoba in every single bite. Chef Kisko García and his staff, go above and beyond to provide one of the most unique experiences in the South of Spain! Every single dish is artistically crafted to put the city’s richness to the forefront of their food. What makes the experience even better? The service and attention to detail is unmatched. I asked for a pescatarian/vegetable menu, and it was executed to perfection! Thank you at all the staff @CHOCO for making me fall in love in Córdoba even more!

We had the full tasting menu - 17 courses, I think?! - with wine pairing and it was a delight. We spent several hours being led on a gastronomic tour of historical Cordoba and Andalucia by our knowledgeable and enthusiastic waiter (who happily for me spoke English). The courses were served in three locations, one of which being the kitchen so we could watch the cooking and prep as we ate (one course here was smoked in lavender in front of us, as we were sprayed with local wine which was apparently once a sign of a gentleman's affluence - I love learning while I eat!). All beautifully presented, as one would expect for a Michelin starred restaurant, but not *too* gimmicky, and I didn't find it pretentious (although the final petit fours were served in a spinning box of jewellery, which I didn't fully understand). Some of the dishes were truly exceptional, with the 'choco' (the restaurant's signature dish) being my favourite: finely sliced cuttlefish with a sublime silky texture. It was the sort of mouthfull which makes you roll your eyes back and sink down into your chair. The pork dish was also remarkable - it had an ultra thin layer of glazed, perfectly crispy skin and I cannot comprehend how it was achieved. The meat itself was so soft I wanted to cry with joy a little. Rosemary baked bread was served with goat milk butter topped with a little caviar, and that was delicious (plus they could accommodate gluten-free folk). Worth noting too that we were served a fried prawn head and legs. I'm an adventurous eater but I balked a little at that one - looked too much like a spider. However, I sucked it up - literally! - and can confirm it was like a very light pork scratching. It wasn't an inexpensive afternoon (€450/€500 ish for 2, with the extended tasting menu, wine pairing, and a couple of extra drinks before and after), but sometimes you get what you pay for.

Just a superb experience, the best example of Real Andalusian food. The service is personal and so knowledgeable of the food prep. Particularly the front of house (when I visited) Juan. He is top quality.

Yelp
Fantastic food journey! Beside the great food, is the experience: we start at the lobby, then we went to the kitchen and finally our table. To return... soon!

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants of all times!!! This is hands down the best place I have enjoyed food and wine to the max!! The place is absolutely fantastic! Cozy! Very few tables. Set menu with several courses .. Each one brought in so beautifully and artfully presented!! It stimulates all your senses!!! Wines are amazing and so beautifully paired! It's a Michelin star restaurant which def deserves more than 1 star!!! I would fly to this place just to eat here!!!

Yelp
We went here December 30, 2015 and enjoyed it thoroughly. We arrived to find a clean, white minimalist interior in a relatively small space. White tables, chairs and walls with some wine glasses on a shelf at one end. We had a choice between a 12 course or a 14 (I think) menu. Daunting!! How could anyone eat that much at 21:00? But each of the 12 courses (we wouldn't have dreamed of selecting 14) was perfectly prepared, timed and measured. They also matched local wines that we found so unique and fresh that we must buy some for home. I won't go into details of the food as it would be difficult to describe the chefs artistry but I was amazed that he combined fish and pork in several dishes with a delightful effect. Something I found very unique. It was also a wonderful change to the classical Spanish food which can get a bit heavy after a week. This restaurant is worth every effort to visit!

Yelp
We visited Choco about 2 weeks ago while touring Andalusia. Everything about it lived up to its Michelin star, and then some. We were greeted by friendly staff who immediately brought us glasses of cava. The food was as special as expected, with each course well-explained by our waiter. The dishes were original, with a lot of attention paid not only to flavor but also to texture. We got the shorter of the two tasting menus and ended up wishing that we had gotten the longer one. It was such a wonderful experience from start to finish that we felt the need to compliment the kitchen on our way out afterward. If you are a foodie and you're in Córdoba, Choco is ABSOLUTELY worth the short taxi ride!
