Where To Eat When You’re Visiting Madrid

"San Ginés is the tourist spot for chocolate and churros, but skip it—Chocolatería Valor in Salamanca is better: shorter waits, outdoor seating, and churros that are crunchy, warm, and ready to be dipped in the rich, gooey stuff. Valor is also a chocolate brand, so they’re experts when it comes to getting the taste and texture just right. The people-watching at this bright, always-busy spot might even be as good as the delicately fried churros—many of the Madrileños who come here mid-morning to slowly sip coffee and read the paper have lived in this neighborhood for decades. The menu also has more breakfast-y items, like a tosta con tomate, a long baguette topped with a blended tomato spread, generous extra virgin olive oil, and sea salt, which will fuel you until the city's late lunch hour, which starts around 2pm. Great place to visit to have tradition Spanish chocolate con churros in Madrid. There is a variety of chocolates, drinks, pastry, and breakfast to enjoy at Valor. The chocolate is very pure and thick which we really love it. The staff here are very friendly and could give you great recommendation to choose the chocolate as well! There is a small shop for chocolates too which is highly recommended to buy some before leave. Will come to visit next time.

I don’t generally like churros, but these were absolutely amazing!! The traditional hot chocolate is the perfect add-on.

I arrived with my service animal and was seated. When they saw her they told me dogs are not allowed - so I asked politely if it's okay she's a service animal clearly wearing a vest and I have documentation ready. They told us we had to sit outside and when we did the manager came and was very aggressive yelling at us saying they refused to serve us. He acted in a violent way and threatened us verbally and with physical intimidation. Awful experience just arriving in Madrid - rude nasty place for no reason. Do not go here. Having read other reviews where they discriminated against a woman breastfeeding and a man in a wheelchair this place should be shut down immediately- absolutely disgraceful. And for the record I am Mexican and spoke in Spanish so it was not discrimination for English speaking it's purely discrimination against anyone - women, people with disabilities and service animals.

When we asked locals where they thought the best churros were, they all pointed to this place. It’s different from other churros, shape and texture wise (fluffier/pillowy inside but still crunchy). Even though there was a long queue, it moved quite fast. 👍

Me and family were seated. We waited until one of the employee comes and pick up our order and her face expression did not welcome at all. More than 20 minutes passed, we did not get any of our order. We were still waiting, thinking maybe it might take a few more time. Then, we noticed that a new customer who was seated like 2 minutes ago, sitting behind us, already got a drink. So we asked another employee about ours, explaining we had already ordered with other person, then he went to check and come back saying “there is no order of our table in the first place”. SO we went to another churros shop nearby that gladly welcome us. Such a waste of time.

🍽️Food: 4/5 🤵🏽‍♂️Service: 2/5 🪑Ambiance: 4/5 📝Notes: The churros are fresh and thats what I like to see 😋 The chocolate is a bit thick but also tastes good. The service was weird, I say this because when I ordered the check, I didn’t touch my bottle of water. I asked the waitress if she could refund it, she said no since she has printed the receipt. Then I said include it. But she asked me to give her the bottle as it was glass and in return gave me a plastic bottle which was smaller than the previous bottle. I said okay but was very weirded out, I don’t recommend the staff to be selfish at times like this. It’s important that when the customer asks something, you don’t tell them no.

Terrible staff!!! I went with my husband and 5 month old baby to enjoy some chocolate and churros. Sat outside because my baby was sleeping and it was a sunny day. Came inside briefly with my baby to breastfeed because it is winter. The staff wouldn't let me in, even though it was completely empty, kept telling me to fold my stroller even though nobody was there... I told them I would only be a minute.... A man at the bar (owner?) kept telling the staff how unacceptable it was to breastfeed at this establishment! Completely disgusted by their poor treatment towards women!!!! 🤮🤮🤮
