The 38 Best Kuala Lumpur Restaurants | Eater

"This traditional kopitiam has been serving local breakfast favorites through half a century and three generations. In the early days, it was a three-story operation, with a coffee shop on the ground floor, restaurant on the second, and hotel on top. Only the coffee shop remains today, but it still draws plenty of customers for roti bakar (toasted bread with homemade coconut jam), soft-boiled eggs, and aromatic coffee. [$$]" - Ian Poh Jin Tze

What do your have for breakfast? Some like a light breakfast, others like something heavier. For light breakfast, one place to go to is Chong Kok Kopitiam, an old charm Kopitiam with a rich and vibrant history serving Klang folks delicious breakfasts for decades. Among the delicacies offered, they have steamed and toasted kaya butter buns, soft-boiled eggs, Nasi Lemak Pulau Ketam, Nasi Lemak Sotong, and Kuih Sagu. The coffee or tea served is just as delicious and filling.

☕ Kopi (Kecil, Hot, No Sugar) = RM2.60 🍞 R2 Hainan Roti = RM4.20 No Service Charges This Place is Located Relatively near to the Klang KTMB Train Station, 🚉 and is a Very Old School Traditional Kopitiam. ☕ Its Non-Airconditioned of course, although it was Airy and Windy. 🌬️ Relatively Cleanly Maintained, I love its Very Old-School Classic Vibe and it feels like this Place has been around for Many Years already. ♥️ Such Old School Places are Practically Extinct in Singapore. Although not Full House, the Place was actually rather Crowded with Customers even at 7.00am on a Wednesday. 🤔 Not Touristy at all, actually I think I'm the Only Tourist. 😅 It feels like every Customers here are Actual Local Klangites. 🇲🇾 The Staffs are Polite, Friendly and Mostly keep to themselves. No issues with Customer Service. 👍 I liked that it took only about 1 Min for Everything to be served up together despite the Elevated Level of Customers when I was there. ☕ Kopi (Kecil, Hot, No Sugar) = RM2.60 Kecil translates to Small but even so, it was served in a Standard Sized Coffee Cup, Hardly Small at all. ☕👍 I love the Robust Aroma wafting from this, and this has a Very Classic Traditional type of Coffee taste. 😋 Fuyoh this really hits the Spot. 👍 Rich and Robust Full Body and Not at all Siap Siap. I love the Slight Bitterness that lingers at the Back of your Throat. 😋 Strong but not Slap you Awake type of Strong, the feeling is like Slowly but Gradually Wake you Up is how I'd describe this. Very Nice. 🍞 R2 Hainan Roti = RM4.20 This is of course a Traditional Kaya Toast. Its a Brown Coloured type of Kaya with a Rich, Thick, Creamy and Deep Coconuty Flavour. 🥥 Very Sweet and I think there are Hints of Gula Melaka added? 🤔 Really Good Quality Kaya that's most likely Homemade. And it also uses Butter, not Margarine. 🧈 Thick and Rich Creamy and Lightly Salted. 😋 There are 2 Slices and I really love Malaysia's Style of doing Kaya Toast. 🇲🇾🍞 because unlike Singapore's Style which is Sliced Thin Thin type, Malaysia's Toast is always Thick, Chonky and Much More Filling. 👍 Lightly Toasted with No Chao Tah, this was Delightfully Crispy to the Bite. 😋 Eating everything together with the Butter and Kaya was the Perfect Combination and even Better when dipped into that Solid Kopi-O. ☕ This is as Classic Traditional a Kaya Toast as you're gonna get. Conclusion and Closing Thoughts At the Price of RM2.60 (S$0.80) is absolutely worth the Price for this Cup of Kopi-O-Kosong. 👍☕ Even though its a Kecil (Small) on the Menu, this is actually your Standard Kopitiam Cup Size. It actually makes me wonder how Big their Larger Sizes are! 😅 Really Classic Old-School Traditional Taste, this is the Type of True Original Kopitiam type of Kopi that is extremely hard to find in Singapore nowadays. 🤔 To really enjoy this to the Fullest, I highly recommend enjoy it Kopi-O-Kosong, No Sugar, No Cream for the Full Impact and Flavour. 👍 At the Price of RM4.20 (S$1.40) is also worth it for this Kaya Toast. 👍🍞 I very much prefer Malaysia's Version of Kaya Toast because their Bread is always served Thick and Chonky compared to Singapore Thin Thin Sliced in Half style. I loved the Obviously Homemade Taste of this Superb Kaya. 🥥🍯 I also especially liked that they used Butter instead of Margarine which really added alot to the Creaminess of the Whole Thing. 🧈😋 I really liked the Fact that this is Very Near to the KTMB Railway Station, 🚉 so you can easily make this your 1st Stop for your Breakfast upon your Arrival at Klang. 🌞 What I really like most is that even though this Kopitiam is Very Popular and Featured in Many Food Blogs about Klang, the Actual Place doesn't feel Touristy at all and is Popular even among the Local Klangites as I've seen. 👍 Thanks for Reading. A nostalgic stop with an old-school charm. While the food and drinks are fairly average, what truly stands out is the friendly and welcoming service from the staff. Their warmth adds a comforting touch that makes the visit worthwhile, especially if you’re just looking to relax and soak in the local vibes.

This is already well known as the go to place for breakfast when in Klang. It's located just opposite the train stop and within walking distance from Little India. Colourful surroundings and the unique cafe is among the few left in the country where you see different races come together in a shop operated using a Chinese name. This is a halal place, offering a diverse choice of breakfast fare. They have their own set menu and there are plenty of ala carte choices as well.

Google
Very affordable type of Kopitiam in Klang! Highly recommended. Their Nasi Lemak and Chicken rice bungkus is cheap and most importantly, a lot of varieties of kuih to choose from!

Chong Kok Restaurant in Klang ! This is an historical building in Klang home to the Best Chinese Hainanese Restaurant and Cusine with multi storeys high . Only the elite and the wealthy would go there to have their all 'Chinese cooked' meals at the first and ground floors of the restaurants . It It was easily the Best Chinese Restaurant in Klang . Durung the early years , most White men used to dine here with their families . Chong Kok Kopitiam had been operating since 1940 . It used to serve those pre war era type ,genuine delicious Chinese food for sometime but not anymore . Not many knew , The founder, Mr. Foo Wah Leng, was a sailor from Hainan Island, China. Today , like in most popular Kopitiams , they continue to serve their regular, old and new customers with their main breakfast menu of coffee , tea , bread with kaya butter , eggs , wheat buns , packet nasi lemak , cakes , and other local kuih kuih . There is nasi lemak with the full range of choices , from plain eggs to various meat, sold right in the front corridor of the shop . Before , they used to open from 6 am till almost 6 pm , not anymore . Nowadays , they close at around 3 pm . They are closed on Sundays . There are some notable changes in the coffee shop . Some of those old and antique furnitures have been replaced with new ones . Though the menu has been revised a bit to suit the current customers , the place continues to attract customers from all walks of life even as far as Kuala Lumpur and nearby cities . Those 'away customers' need only to take a train from their destinations to reach here as it is directly in front the Klang Railway Station . It is so convenient .

Very old school kopitiam. Their bread is using charcoal so it's very fragrance but kuih lapis it's not nice. Very sweet for me.

Yelp
Being a Klang people, despite of Bak Kut Teh, this is basically my favourite spot for breakfast in town! This kopitiam is nearby klang ktm station, just within 1 min of walking distance and you will see this coffee shop. Please come early to have a look on how local people eat their breakfast and lunch here. This is a very special and traditional coffee shop in Klang town. This is where the place you see chinese, malay and indian can sit on one round table and have meal together. Their operation start on 1940, as a hotel, sell alcoholic drink but now only sell breakfast and coffee while they remain the original look of the shop layouts. Price range is $. The chinese owned the shop, sell drinks, half boiled egg, roti bakar (toasted with charcoal) and nasi lemak in package while malay owned the stall, selling rojak and nasi lemak. I am their big fan of half boiled kampung egg. Seriously, the boiled the best half boiled egg I ever had. Their egg always in fresh, in perfection. You are need not to scratch the inner egg shell as there is no egg left inside the shell once you crack it off! (*yum yum) During the peak hour, you can see everyone will start "tumpang" table as there is not much seat there. But this is how we eat our breakfast and start to chit chat with people around us. :) I will recommend you to try this kopitiam whenever you come to klang town. Besides, it is very near to "Under bridge bak kut teh" Revisit? Couldn't give a reason to reject it :)

Yelp
The shop is located very near the train station where parking is so hard to find. The coffee is really really good. Must try their nasi lemak, especially the sambal. It was sold out before we could get ours today, sad!

Yelp
Absolutely the best place for breakfast (if you can find parking) Great coffee, nasi lemak, mee hun, soft-boiled eggs and roti bakar(I usually eat 2 plates) A must go when you get the chance to be around Klang's train station in the morning(to get a hold on to the nasi lemaks)

Yelp
cheap and authentic food but so crowded! it's like ikea on weekends but double the crowd. People are constantly eyeing at your seat like how I literally stare at jake gyllenhaal in brokeback mountain. If you have more than an empty seat at your table you gotta share dont forget the Sultan Abdul Aziz Royal Gallery on the same street!!! underrated and excellent museum, free entry!

Yelp
Served the best black coffee in town. Morning breakfast, famous with their nasi lemak and half boiled eggs. One major issue, parking issue.
