Chope Chope Eatery

"While ‘chope’ means to reserve a seat by putting a tissue pack on it in ‘Singlish’, you can call to book a table here. The Singaporean chef helming JL Studio in Taichung opened this Kopitiam concept to celebrate casual Singaporean dining. Try har cheong gai (fried wings in fermented shrimp sauce), kopi pai kut (coffee ribs) and house-made murtabak bread. Asian-inspired cocktails such as Tan herbal tea in a plastic bag are both fun and delicious." - Michelin Inspector

I recommend the chicken satay and pani puri, both are delicious and great dishes for sharing 👍🏻 The seafood laksa has a generous portion of seafood, but the laksa itself is not very flavorful. The soup tastes watered-down. The beef satay was not as tender as the chicken satay, so the chicken is definitely recommended over the beef. Great service 👍🏻

Walked in without reservations on a Friday noon and was seated immediately with only a few tables occupied. Shortly afterwards it was full occupancy. Dimly lit ambiance, clean and spacious. Food has very strong flavoring of south east asian ingredients such as lemongrass, shrimp paste, fish sauce, curry and spices etc. If you're not used to pungent flavors order the conservative dishes on the menu such as Hainan chicken rice.

I am not sure how they have Michelin mentions on their storefront. The food is terrible and I even came twice to give them a 2nd chance. First time, the hainan chicken was dry, hard and overcooked. Second time, the beef rendang was chewy tough and undercooked, and the rice is partially cooked. I ate less than half before I asked for the bill and the staff didn’t even ask why so they probably know the food is bad too.

Upscale Singaporean restaurant. Quality food and drinks in a nice environment. Perfect for taking guests in town or a business dinner. Most dishes were good, just wasn't a fan of the seafood laksa

Chope Chope Eatery, helmed by JL Studio's chef Jimmy, is not only a Taipei gastronomic gem but also a sought-after dining spot in Taipei 101's New York New York Mall. Since its 2020 opening, securing a reservation at this chic establishment can be quite a challenge. Located on the 4th floor of Taipei 101's New York New York Mall (A4), Chope Chope boasts a spacious interior with a trendy modern Southeast Asian design. While outdoor seating reminiscent of "Wildwood Original BBQ" is available, the main dining area features a mix of sofa, round tables, and private booths, making it perfect for family gatherings. The restaurant's attention to local Southeast Asian dining culture is evident even in the way they reserve seats using a single packet of tissues. The staff's warmth and attentiveness further enhance the dining experience. Chope Chope Eatery shares some similarities with JL Studio, both exuding a mild and elegant dining atmosphere. Despite featuring Southeast Asian classics on the menu, the use of spices is relatively restrained, making it more suitable for those less accustomed to the bold flavors of the region. Overall, it's a great choice for those seeking a Southeast Asian culinary experience without the intense spice levels.

Cozy environment and friendly staff. Singapore/ southeastern Asia cuisines served with big portions. Taste is authentic and delicious. Best for a group and share multiple dishes with each other so one can try more in a single visit. Price is high but worth a visit.

Higher-end Singaporean food, that has really been too localised in terms of flavour, which gives the food a very flat flavour profile. The surprise was the satay as the chicken pieces were huge and moist. Sadly the satay sauce wasn't all that great and the accompanying cucumbers were the cooking kind, with though skin. The char kway teow was nice, but lacking in flavour. The jackfruit curry didn't seem to have any jackfruit in it. The murtabak was quite nice. Overall a decent, but very pricy meal.

I've never been a staunch enthusiast of Nanyang cuisine, but Chope Chope Eatery completely transformed my perception of Southeast Asian food. I'd particularly urge you to try their Jackfruit Curry Chicken (NTD 420), Mixed Satay (NTD 850), and Peng He (NTD 1180). The curry is bursting with flavor, boasting just the right amount of coconut milk, and it pairs beautifully with the roti paratha. The satay's seasoning is exceptionally well-done, and the tender chicken thighs truly outshine the beef cheeks. Peng He, a grilled fish with two distinct sauces, is an absolute delight. The green sauce, featuring a blend of lemongrass, basil, peppermint, celery, and a myriad of Nanyang spices, harmonizes splendidly with the fish, creating a multifaceted flavor profile. During our visit last night, the service was top-notch. Our waitress exhibited remarkable patience and enthusiasm while explaining the menu. Given our extensive order, we were pleasantly surprised with complimentary mocktails and dessert (the tiramisu is another must-try). All in all, it was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I've had in quite some time. I'm definitely planning to return more frequently.
