"Chow’s customers and their dogs mill around out front near the giant fork that holds this Northwest Newport Avenue restaurant’s metal scrap sign. Indoors, the earthy cottage pop-culture-inspired paintings hang in stark juxtaposition. Chef and owner David Touvel grows ingredients for the menu in the restaurant’s garden, which transform into things like salmon kale salads and seasonal fruit compotes over French toast. House-made bread accompanies dishes like poached eggs and thick-cut bacon, piled on steamed spinach and a cornmeal-crusted tomato. Cheesy bacon cheddar grits are a must-order side. For lunch, pick from honey-truffle-fried chicken sandwiches, smash burgers, Chow mac and cheese, or salads that are even better when just picked." - Barb Gonzalez, Jeffrey Stull

Birthday brunch. We had a bit of a wait, but the owner came out & sat down & chatted with us. We loved the warmness of the staff. The food was delicious & our server posted the photo she took of us on their social media site! They had a cute intimate bar & outside seating with a fire pit. Definitely a “go to” while visiting like we were.

Great menu backed by deliciously thoughtful food; service; decor; general atmosphere. Was promptly met and sat on patio for a late brunch. Bloody Mary's looked and tasted excellent. Ordered The Med w sweet potato fries. Poached egg was perfect. As was every other part of the meal. Three house-made sauce options offered. The salsa verde went very well with this dish, and I could see getting this to go for a sunny brunch in the backyard. *Note to self* 🫶 The habanero hot sauce was exceptionally spicy and showed. 😄 Being minimally used at most tables it seemed. It was also brightly sweet and flavorful before the heat. Just in small doses. The red salsa was more mild, deep and slightly smokey. Glad I used the rest room before leaving.. because the Lebowski print inside instantly drew me in. Left smiling and admiring all the rest of the artistic and nostalgic touches. Curious to come back and enjoy some other items.. not excluding the cornmeal crusted tomatoes!

Went to Chow on Easter Sunday. I have heard it’s THE spot in Bend so we were excited that it wasn’t booked out. First the service was strange. The employees had a weird attitude but we chalked it up to a Holliday weekend. It took at least 20 minuets after seating to get our order in but again we chalked it up to the weekend. Specifically an employee who was walking around filling waters and being kinda rude and too casual. The new girl who seated us was really nice, our waiter was nice enough and it could have been the Easter rush, it wasn’t however all that busy. Then, we ordered our food. I got a poached egg dish (~$18) and my husband got the fried steak (~$22) as well as some coffee and a bloody marry. Add bacon was $6. The food was, not joking, horrible. The eggs on my dish were severely undercooked and the whole dish was flavorless. His steak was mostly un chewable. Would have expected better flavors from a cheep diner. We both were very surprised at how gross the food was for such a reputable joint. Our bill was $71 and we feel so sick from the food. I feel so ripped off and bummed I didn’t make a better choice for our Easter outing, not being able to afford to do something else to make up for it. Such a bummer. Won’t be returning unfortunately, I was so excited to go here, how strange. Taking recommendations for a good brunch joint.

Shout out to Lleyton, our server! Really attentive and polite. Corn beef hash was wonderful. Poached eggs were perfectly runny. Liked having that sweet aspect from the sweet potatoes and balsamic glaze with the savory corn beef. The shrimp and grits were creamy and very delicious. The tomatoes and micro greens gave it a nice fresh kick. One of the eggs on it was poached hard, but still very delicious.

Chow is an absolute gem of a restaurant! The service was wonderful, the food excellent (we had the eggs Vinny -traditional Benedict style, and the crab cake version). The wait for our table was about 20 minutes, giving us time to walk the dog around the block. They welcomed our dog for outdoor seating and gave him his own water bowl at the table.

Highly recommended by friends, we came around 9-10am on a Saturday. We got seated right away, though it started to pick up and the next day when we stopped by, there was a long waiting line. Simple and wonderful decor in a good area with its own parking lot and plenty of street parking. When we got in, there appeared to be three hostess, and two servers. One of the hostess was sick so she had to leave early. Apparently they were also training someone new who had our table. So I preface this by saying this could have been a one off, and just my personal experience. We got seated then the hostesses were on the side talking with themselves. The two servers were running around. 8-10 minutes after being seated, one of the hostess came to apologize and pour us water. Another 5-8 minutes passed then the supposed new server came to take our order. The food came first after 10 minutes and our drinks a few minutes after that (the bar is in a separate area, so they have to exit the main building to go to the side bar building to make the drinks, then bring it back into the main building). After we finished, it took a while to get the attention for our check, and then a box, then to pay. We weren’t sure if it was just us, but saw 2 other tables in our area also wait a while and one even voicing their displeasure. Then overhearing that someone was training and first day on the floor. Personally when I hear that, I give more benefit of the doubt, but the service did leave me feeling some type of way where I’d have to pause if someone brought up Chow. But with the circumstances, I took one star. The friendliness of the staff though was great. Now food, delicious. 14 hour braised corn beef hash, bacon cheddar grits, a crab cake, chicken sando, Bloody Mary with bacon. Food was good, no complaints on the actual taste. Even ate the leftovers 2-3 days after and still solid. The price is up there to $15-$20 a dish. With $12-$15 cocktails. So it’s a typical price “fancier” brunch spot. Just know you’ll be paying for that. Overall, great place. I see why there’s a line and hype. If you’re a brunch person, def recommend, if you aren’t a fan of lines and higher prices for food. Then that’s for you to decide!

Good selection biscuits and gravy were delicious. The coffee drinks were very tasty. Sat outside for a nice breakfast. No air conditioning inside - it was already pretty hot inside by 11am on a June morning. Plenty of outdoor seating.

This was a cute place that was recommended by multiple people while we were in Bend. People weren't lying as the food and service was really good. I got the Cuban sandwich which had thick cut ham, pulled pork, pickles, Swiss and a mustard sauce(?). Delicious! The wife got the two egg breakfast with chicken sausage and corn meal crusted tomatoes. Everything was really good.
