I made reservations for my birthday to eat at Chom Yum. I really wanted to try the bao! Our server was attentive and gave us recommendations which made the dining experience great! The Hot Honey Chicken Bao packed a lot of flavor. The crispy chicken, honey, pickled onions, scallions, and the house boursin were a perfect combination of ingredients. The Hissy Fit is a seasonal drink. It's not as sweet as I would like, but I thought it wasn't bad. The Firebird Ramen is spicy! I love the seasoned egg, the miso broth, the crispy chicken.... I ate everything with a smile on my face! One thing I didn't try was the bread pudding because I had a full stomach. I will visit again to enjoy it.

Google
Chow Yum is a great place to enjoy Asian cuisine with a little creole mixed in. We started with the chef dumplings. I got hot honey chicken Bao bun and Bombay chicken. Everything I’ve had from this restaurant has been amazing. I definitely recommend stopping by if you get a chance and try it out.

Google
Typical Louisiana restaurant - serving Vietnamese Crawfish and other South East Asian food. Good service, delicious food, very very limited 'vegetarian' option, but if you ask they will swap out the meat with some tofu. Surprisingly amazing desserts too! I would recommend it!

My family & I got together to meet up at Chow Yum. At first, we were supposed to eat separate since the interior wouldn't allow to set a table for 8. But we were lucky enough to eat outside in the back patio. We heard they were selling their own boiled crawfish. The flavors were surprisingly delicious & spicy. It had hidden quail eggs in the bucket. We shared the T-bokki w/ beef. It's not as spicy but it was really good. One of my Aunt ordered the Dan Dan noodles; she said it tasted really good. We also shared the cafe sua da vietnamese coffee) bread pudding, I forgot to take a picture before everyone took a bite. The flavor was more cinnamon than coffee, but it was still good.

Google
Food was amazing. We were upfront about our need for gluten-free due to celiac and were guided to eat the curried vegetables (without naan) and then the wings. Both were very flavorful and satisfying. Neither of our two individuals with celiac had any symptoms of gluten in the food (always a plus)! The atmosphere is charming and the service was excellent in being clear about what was best for gluten free and why. The only reason I give service only 4 stars is we went a good ten minutes (or more) without a refill or check on our water canister for the table so I had to take the canister to the bar myself to get water (understandable with how busy it was).

Google
Chow yum is the best ramen place in Batom rouge. It beats the breaks of jinya and everywhere else. They do a lot of their pickled products in house and the theme is very nerd/pop culture related. I've never had a bad meal here.

Google
Each time we visit, we enjoy trying something new from the menu. The flavors always have depth! The ambience of the restaurant gives exactly what’s need for a quick weekday casual date night. The price per item is reasonable. The wait staff is always friendly and knowledgeable of the items served. Definitely give the place a try if you’re in the area!

Google
Kinda nostalgic kinda ordinary atmosphere. The crispy pig ears were good, the Bombay chicken appetizer was good, and the rice cake like noodles in tomato and cheese sauce was different to my taste. I ordered the Smokehouse which is a smoked brisket and pork belly kimchi and japanese seasoned fried rice. Very good! Update on 7/8/2025 visit: today I tried the Rad Thai which is a curry stir fry with shrimp, fried crispy chicken skins, peanuts, scallions, and very spicy. An okay level of spicy. The bread pudding dessert was ordered to go by a friend. It looked wonderful, but I didn't taste it. Sorry maybe another time.

Yelp
This is one of our favorites ! It's always amazing ! And slaps every time. Like you know how you'll go somewhere to get your favorite dish and then one day it taste different... and not better ? Not here. It's delish everytime. In fact I ate all the wings and the pork belly bao buns before I could even take a photo. The house rice is so good we get it as carry out

Yelp
Treated my sister to her birthday lunch here in February 2025. It was my first time dining her, but my sister had been several times. It's near LSU, where she works. Food was different and delicious. Service was good, but a little slow. Not terribly slow though. Haven't been back, but plan on visiting again soon. *Sorry for the late review. I'm catching up on all of the restaurants I've visited for the first time this year."

Yelp
This was such an amazing dinner! The hot honey chicken baos is one of my favorite foods OF ALL TIME! The yaki saki is so savory and delicious. The pho dumplings were amazing and I hope one day they can make it to the permanent menu! Delicious. I've eaten here 3 times in the past 2 weeks I am obsessed

Julia D.

Yelp
I've always wanted to try their bao buns and they did not disappoint. I had the pork phat bao that had pork belly in it and it was so good! Their cauliflower appetizer was good however it was too oily for my liking.

Yelp
Food and service were incredible. Best blueberry bread pudding. Nice on the inside.

Yelp
I'm typically not a fan of Asian cuisine/ramen noodles, but this place is seriously so delicious! My friends were craving something different, so we decided on Chow Yum! We went late on a Saturday night, and this place was packed. It is small inside, but luckily for us, a table just had gotten up, so we were sat immediately. There are limited tables both inside and outside, but inside there are tvs and a bar. Also, this place is right under the overpass, so a very convenient location. To start, we got the wings. There are only 6, and they were spicy. I'm not a huge fan of spice, so I thought these were just ok. For an entree, I decided to try the fried chicken Bao buns. WOW! These are packed full of flavor. The Bao bun is sweet but it was paired nicely with the fried chicken strip and soy sauce. One of my favorite bites actually! I wish there were more Bao buns per order because I could have eaten at least 4. My friends got the ramen noodle bowl and a stir fry that they said were delicious. Service was good and food was amazing! I will be back solely for the Bao buns!

Yelp
This place is a small gem! It's a wide variety of Asian food that is very good. Packs a punch with the heat and flavor! The drinks are also awesome! However, everything is slow and nothing is quick from the service to the kitchen it's slow! But worth it!
google avatar

Cristina K.

Yelp
Delish. Everything we got was amazing..well except my husbands ramen. I tasted it and the broth was so bland and flavorless. The pork belly bao is so much better to me than the hot honey chicken. Also the crispy pig ears were delish...who wouldve thought lol
google avatar

Josh S.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for ramen, the firebird is a must have item in my opinion! The service is some of the best in BR. The whole staff truly cares if you're having a good experience!

Haleigh A.

Yelp
Wonderful flavors, have tried a little bit of everything. The only thing I didn't care for was the fried rice, but everyone else loved that as well!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of my favorite go-to restaurants, and I crave it often! It's also a great place to visit when it's cold out. The parking situation can be a little tricky, given that there are so many other restaurants around, but don't give up--keep driving around, and you'll eventually find a spot. The drinks are always superb, and the food is incredibly tasty! It's a great spot for a date night or a fun girls' night out. If there aren't any tables available, the bar is a fantastic option! The wait can also be a bit of a pain, but again, just be patient; the best food will soon be in front of you!

Yelp
Went here for a date night and loved the ambiance. This place is hands down some of my favorite food in Baton Rouge. It's original and unique with delicious food. My favorite was the smokehouse brisket fried rice... absolutely insane. The waguy dumplings were also a 10/10. Lastly, we got hot honey chicken and pork belly boa buns. Me and my boyfriend definitely preferred the pork belly. The hot honey was overhyped for me but still delicious. Service was good. It wasn't busy when we went. So had no problems.

Yelp
I heard all the rave during crawfish season so I finally got around to coming over here! My honest review on the crawfish was that it is ok. They add some stuff in that you won't get at any other place in BR (edamame, quail eggs and such) and the butter sauce has lemongrass flavors. A twist on a regular south Louisiana boil. The wings were crunchy and quite yummy. Overall the place is small but they move people in and out pretty quick from what I experienced. Inside and outside seating and some anime to enjoy on the bar tv.

Yelp
If you're looking for something a little different and apart from your normal Louisiana cuisine, check out this cute, intimate spot under the Perkins Road Overpass area. Asian fusion has become more popular over the years with Chow Yum leading the way. First off, staff has always been very friendly and helpful, whether I've grabbed to-go or dined in person. The cocktails are very delicious and appealing to the eye. My absolute favorite thing I have had here is the Chow Style Crawfish. Perfectly and uniquely flavored with butter and lemongrass. The accouterment you can add includes potatoes, edamame (who'd have thunk), and you can add delicious quail eggs. This is obviously seasonal, and you need to follow their Instagram to make sure you catch them and reserve ahead of time. Next up, their wings are delicious, probably why they're award winning. I had the Champ Wings on my last visit, and it was just the perfect serving and so tender. The meat melted from the bones. I do find that a lot of their dishes contact an overload of sodium. I've had the ramen and a few of the other dishes and was turned off due to the salt overpowering the meal. It's the nature of the beast with a lot of ramen and Asian dishes, but I find here, it's a bit extreme. Check out Chow Yum, as well as the other area restaurants!

Yelp
We went on Friday night at 7:30pm, were immediately seated at a two person table with a shared bench, but we felt it was too tight of a squeeze between the neighboring tables, so we asked to move to the bar. Really glad we did bc the bartender was great. She was super friendly, helpful, and she kindly turned the TV to men's basketball per my boyfriend's request. The bar was really nice and clean, and I loved the lighting. I ordered a featured frozen drink - the coconut mojito, which I loved. I normally don't like mojitos, but I found the coconut balanced the mint nicely, and made for a very refreshing cocktail. My boyfriend got the Master Roshi, which we both thought was very good. For our entrées we ordered the Dan Dan Noods and the Crispy Fish Curry Ramen. The Dan Dan Noods were amazing and had SO much flavor. I did not really care for the kimchi I chose to add on, but I'd never tried it before, so that's no fault of Chow Yum's. I loved how spicy my Dan Dan Noods were, however, if you don't enjoy spiciness, the Crispy Fish Curry Ramen would be the one to go with as it was much tamer. We found it to be a little lacking for this reason, but it was still very tasty, and the fish was delicious! Overall, had a great time, with great employees, great food, and great drinks! Hope to return some day :)

Yelp
Awesome service, great Japanese whiskey, loved the buns in my mouth, atmosphere was wonderfully artsy

Yelp
I got the hot honey bao and it was delicious! Just wanted to upload these photos of the current menu since a lot of the menu pics on here are of an older menu!

Yelp
this review is so long overdue.. Been going to this spot for years and years and it never fails to amaze me. Every single thing i've tried has been awesome. the dumplings, the pig ears, THE BAOS, wings, ramen, fried rice, blah blah blah - you can't go wrong! everything is so vibrant, so flavorful, so delicious! they always have fun specials going on, whether it be food or drinks. the Cocktails are so diverse and creative! the atmosphere is so enjoyable! they always have some anime on the screen, which i appreciate. they just expanded their patio so more outdoor seating available! the service is always great! prices are reasonable for the insane quality of food you're getting. i will ALWAYS recommend this spot to out-of-towners and to locals who just haven't given it a shot yet. (would've loved to include more pictures of the food because everything comes out looking beautiful but you'll just have to go check it out yourself ;)

Yelp
Great atmosphere, fun location under overpass, variety of beverage options. My friend mentioned it and I had similar thought. Server was helpful knowledge but almost painfully chipper in a unauthentic, fake type of way. However, we were only ppl outside and weren't forgotten- that's good- but the robotic interactions were a bit strange, unsettling. Tasty snack(pork belly bao)/beverage (Tokyo mule) after walking lakes.

Byron F.

Yelp
Pretty sure I heard gun shots in the area....ain't give af the food was that good hot honey bao was amazing the wing was amazing the flying nimbus amazing everything was amazing i live like a hour and sum away and would travel like its up the street for this food

Yelp
Good place to get Asian food around Baton Rouge. The Ramen was pretty flavorful. The pork was good although there's a decent amount that was too chewy to eat. The broth was amazing. The noodles was average. The rest of the toppings were good. The chicken bao that I got was good. The batter of the chicken was OK, I wish it tasted more like a chicken Karaage but the flavors of the bao itself was pretty good. I'd come back if I'm in the area.
google avatar

Alexandra E.

Yelp
This place has such flavorful dishes! We loved everything from the muddled ginger margaritas to the DanDan dumplings. The Ronin's ramen I did feel like it was missing something so I added chili oil and that made it really good. Our server was really funny and nice. Only thin I will say that food kept on coming out at different times and we felt like it took a bit but overall really good spot and pretty!
google avatar

Nelly S.

Yelp
Food: delicious! We had the Bombay chicken (flavorful, would have liked more of the sauce with it), Bao (didn't try but husband said it was amazing), Firebird ramen (perfect on a chilly rainy day), & yaki saki noodles (loved the tofu in it along with the noodles). Service: We were seated quickly at the bar despite it being very busy (although was quite awkward with a low high chair). Took a VERY long time to get our food which was the only downside, but as stated above, worth the wait for the food! Ambience: decor is great!

Jessica D.

Yelp
Amazing every time! Our service was efficient and overall great. Food was outstanding as usual. I'm a vegetarian and I love the fact that for any bao buns you can have the meat swapped for fried tofu!
google avatar

Yelp
The food at Chow Yum Phat is always amazing. They cook everything perfectly, and the seasoning is incredible. We've never been disappointed.
google avatar

Jordan Nicole H.

Yelp
The service is comically slow at the bar. Literally feels like the sloth scene in zootopia. If I was strictly rating based on the crispy pig ears... 5 stars.

Yelp
Having never been, but hearing really great things about this restaurant we decide to go last Saturday. It was an early afternoon. (11:30am) it was pretty cold and windy outside, so we were looking for a comfortable seat inside. There were two of us. 4 tables were occupied. All else were open. There was one incredibly small two top table. And seating, which were high chairs, at the bar. (I'm 5' 0", so high bar stool type seating is very uncomfortable for me.) The hostess insisted she could not seat us at a four top table In a restaurant that was 3/4 empty. I said, so you're seriously telling me you're not going to seat us Other than at the incredibly small two top table, one of the high barstools at the bar, or outside in the cold. She replied yes, that is what I'm saying. So we left We went a few doors down to an Italian restaurant, walked in and were immediately greeted by the owner (found out later) who said hey pick yourself a seat. Needless to say, they got our business I'm still pretty flabbergasted we were not seated at Chow Yum. Bad business practice, Chow Yum. I'll never try your food now and will actively discourage others from doing so. Robin

Yelp
Chow Yum Phat is one of my favorite spots near the overpass. I have visited many times since their stand alone after White Star Market and have to get the salt and peppa wings every time!

Yelp
Nice date spot in the mid city area of. We love trying new restaurants. The atmosphere was nice service was good as well.

Yelp
Great lunch! My 12yr old and I visited one Saturday afternoon around 3pm. The place is small inside but cute and cozy! There is a nice bar and a limited number of tables. They also have nice patio seating. Our waitress was friendly and gave us great suggestions since this was our first visit. We started with the Chow Yum Spritzer and it was a cute purple delicious drink! Very refreshing. My daughter ordered a ramen bowl and I had the Chum wings with added corner store rice. Let me tell you, this is THE best fried rice I've ever had. The only thing missing were some shrimp. The taste and texture of the rice and veggies was delicious. My daughter said her ramen bowl was pretty good. When we got ready to go our waitress took our plates and bagged our left overs for us. Overall I enjoyed and will definitely return!

Alondra G.

Yelp
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE I am so dissatisfied with the staff there and the way things are ranned. This is my second time trying to shop here. I first went on a sunday took me 2hrs to get inside after being seated waiter stated that there was another 45 min wait for crawfish which was very unfortunate. I called in a to-go order sometime last week -paid & all.... order was made at 1pm. Around 6pm i received a call saying that they had no more crawfish after i PAID FOR ORDER which meant that around my pick up time my crawfish should have been pit aside. I spoke with Michael the manager & he again once again told me that they do not hold crawfish & if thats the case MICHAEL & MANAGEMENT PLEASE ENSURE TO NOT BE CHARGING YOUR CUSTOMERS FOR ORDERS IF FOOD WILL NOT BE HELD REGARDLESS OF PAYMENT SO THAT PEOPLE ARENT EXPECTING ON IT JUST FOR YOU TO CONTACT LATER WITH BAD NEWS.

Yelp
I love this place I've been coming here since they opened is delicious I always get mine extra spicy The dumplings are delicious also.

Yelp
I have been going to Chow Yum Phat for years now. I started spending a ton of time in BR during the pandemic, and even after that, when I went back to LSU for my Bachelor's degree. This comfy Asian fusion eatery has become my go-to place. Chow Yum Phat has never missed! Chow Yum Phat has some of the most creative and flavorful ramen dishes I've ever tasted. My favorites are Oskar's Wild, The Addie (retired), The Firebird, and Crispy Fish Curry, which are excellent! You can customize the dishes however you want; many add-in options allow you to add your creative flare to the meal. The creativity starts with the appetizers. The Cygon Rib Stack, softshell bao kit, Mandu dumplings, and Pho Totchos are terrfic. They offer a great drink selection, which rotates, so ask about the drinks when you stop in. The customer service is always friendly and present. The restaurant is stationed under the overpass, but plenty of parking exists. I've dined here, and the vibe is perfect. Enjoy the Cowboy Bebop and the chill tunes. We're all Space Cowboy fans! Stop in and treat yourself.

Yelp
Great food! Cool vibe. Excellent service. Went back the next weekend it was so good. Great selection of bars to walk to afterwards, though the drinks here do the job. Never had a bad experience in 4 visits. Never had a bad dish, but the mandu is cravable. Every bao was perfect

Thao P.

Yelp
We ordered the Rad Thai, ribs and ramen. All of our meals were very flavorful and the portions sufficient. I would recommend trying this unique place.
google avatar

Quynh D.

Yelp
love how reasonably price everything was! the stacked ribs with the fish sauce marinate WAS INGENIOUS, the ribs were FALL OFF THE BONE so tender and the fish sauce was so umami. the place was such a cute causal place under the bridge, parking was easy, and the service was nice. loved how they updated the outside seatings, so cute outside with the patio and lights.
google avatar

Sophia A.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Chow Yum Phat and I loved it! Very cool restaurant with great food. It really lives up to the hype. The service was also great.

Lyndsey F.

Yelp
I don't know who is cooking the crawfish this year but it is BUSSIN. I already love the happy hour and normal menu items but this just puts the cherry on top!
google avatar

Jacob D.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to sit outside after work to enjoy some drinks. Luckily, Chow Yum had exactly that! The service was great, food was delicious. Can't wait to come back. Definitely getting the Buku Noods agains.

Malachy O.

Yelp
Breakfast food truck was great! The Banh Mi was so good, I particularly like the fresh Jalapeño on it. Coconut milk grits were also delicious. Be sure to wash it down with the CY Bloody Mary
google avatar

Yelp
Love love loveeeeee , happy hour is fantastic! You can get a bao bun for $3 and two of those things will satisfy you ! Crispy fish curry ramen goes crazyyy.

Yelp
Service was wonderful. We came here with a couple who had an anniversary. We didn't make a reservation. There was a small wait and unfortunately the area is very small so the wait area doesn't really exist. When we got seated it was super cute and the server was wonderful. We ordered a few drinks and got some appetizers. My daughter got the fried rice with brisket and it was very good- even better the next day. I got this spicy shrimp noodle dish. It was VERY spicy which wasn't an issue for me. However, one of my friends ordered and she couldn't eat it. We got the tater tot nachos which the flavor was amazing but unfortunately the tots did not hold up they just fell apart. We also ordered pho dumplings which were good. The bread pudding was amazing. By far the coffee bread pudding was where it was at.
google avatar

Peyton F.

Yelp
Our server was awesome. Very knowledgeable and helpful when ordering drinks and appetizers. The music in there was 10/10 and Hunter x Hunter was on tv, so the ambiance was perfect as far as I'm concerned. My only complaint is that they were completely out of bread pudding when I went, and that was a large part of why I went. I've tried it before so I know it's amazing, I was disappointed. Hopefully they have it next time
google avatar

Robert R.

Yelp
what a pleasant surprise, #AsianCrawfish. I have been eating here for several years, and always their appetizers and Ramen have been off the chart. Service is always always excellent, and they always have fun cocktails. Tonight, however, the mix of Asian flavor with Cajun crawfish was terrific. The quail eggs and edamame are a great add-on. #lowcountrycajun
google avatar

Renee H.

Yelp
Ok. I've been craving ramen and was in town pulled the restaurant up on Yelp because it was on the route to the house I was headed and bingo! I hit the jackpot. I ordered the crispy fish curry noods made with golden coconut curry with peanuts. If you shellfish or peanuts allergies this is not the meal for you, but fear not it was labeled on all the meals. I liked that the menu was labeled with allergies. This place is definitely a gold mine and it's on my list of favorites for now. So glad I found this joint today. Oh and while waiting for my food the waiter said I was gorgeous. So yeah this is one of my favorite spots until otherwise.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
An incredible experience, possibly the best Asian fusion new I've had! Ribs are an incredible appetizer, the ramen was on point. My friend had fried rice and soft shelled crab taco things, everything was perfect. Paired with an awesome attentive waitstaff and cool ambiance, this is a an experience you just have!!
google avatar

Andrea B.

Yelp
Outstanding food! I happened upon this place while getting a pedicure next door. I told my husband to go over and check it out. He picked up the champ wings and Dan Dan noodles! Both excellent choices! We will definitely go back!

Yelp
Its name a punny nod to famous actor Chow Yun-Fat, this Asian fusion spot in the Perkins Overpass area is remarkably cool and mighty tasty as well. The compact interior is trendy and semi-industrial with bright pop art, clean brick facades, and both bar stool and table seating. The service is efficient and the feel is casual, which suits the "street food" theme. The menu features a whole host of things from fried pig ears to dumplings to wings to noodle bowls to bao. The Hot Honey Chicken Bao Kit, consisting of three pillowy buns nestled around crunchy gochujang-coated fried chicken, was magnificent. The glazed meat was sweet and savory with a fruity heat, and the sliced onions provided a sharp but herbal bite. Beautifully concocted dish. The Mandu starter was a potent hodge podge of flavors between the pungent and creamy kimchi, melted cheese, jalapenos, and fried dumplings stuffed with marinated beef. Think Korean loaded nachos. The reason for the downgrade from a 5-star score came down to the Ronin's Ramen, which was acceptable but not very memorable. The broth--the lifeblood of any ramen worth its salt--was thin, milky, and oily without the intense depth of flavor I was looking for. The pork had a nice smoky flavor but was quite tough. There were some positives though: I appreciated the different types of spongy mushrooms and the copious chewy noodles. CYP is a strong 4.5/5 in my book and very much worth a trip. One of the best restaurants in Baton Rouge without a doubt, and one that I hope to try again soon.
google avatar

Gaby S.

Yelp
Everything we ate was amazing!! We ordered a lot, our favorites were the t-bokki and the Roshi ramen. The wings had great flavor, but not crispy as advertised on the menu. We went on a Saturday night and sat on the patio. They did not seem crazy busy, but food was slow coming out of the kitchen. We were killing time before a basketball game so this worked out perfectly for us, but tables around us were getting frustrated for 45 minute+ wait for their food and we would have felt the same had we not been killing time. This was my first time here so I'm not sure if that is a regular occurrence, but food was great so I would come try again.
