The Best Restaurants, Bars, and Cafes in Ferndale, Michigan | Eater Detroit

"Chrystyna Hryhorczyk has been bringing Ukrainian and Eastern European dishes to Ferndale since 1999. The menu features the favorites (and massive) Bomb Burrito, borscht potato pancakes, Baba’s pierogi, Hungarian goulash, stuffed cabbage, fresh salads, and a weekend brunch menu. Spring for the combo platter to get a taste of everything — pierogi, smoked sausage, kapusta (housemade sauerkraut), served with grilled rye bread and sour cream. Specials are handwritten and updated on social. Walk-ins and carryout only here." - Courtney Burk

Best Restaurants and Shops for Pierogi in Detroit and Southeast Michigan | Eater Detroit

"This Ferndale staple has been dishing up an eclectic mix of homecooked favorites for more than 20 years. The expansive menu can be a bit overwhelming with all of the choices, from the famous bomb burrito to pasta to hearty meat dishes, but the pierogi is a must try. Try Babba’s Pierogies — handmade dumplings stuffed with cheddar and potato and served with caramelized onions and sour cream — or the Odessa, six pierogis served with caramelized onions, grilled smoked sausage, house-baked sauerkraut, and grilled rye bread." - Dorothy Hernandez

It had been a long time since I visited Christine’s but recently I’ve been there multiple times. I could eat the kapusta (baked sauerkraut) every day. The portions are very generous and the flavors are on point. The salads are especially excellent. Desserts are massive and taste fantastic also. Incredibly kind service as well.

Small dinner type setup with easy walkin dining. We had 7 people, including a 3.5 year old and a 1.5 year old. The food was good and found something to order. The Borscht and beef burgundy was good.

Google
Christine’s Cuisine is one of my favorite restaurants in Detroit!! They have the best pierogis I’ve EVER tried! I can’t wait to show and recommend this place to everyone. The pasta is delicious & comes with a yummy roll, and the onion rings were cooked to perfection. The staff is always very friendly and you can seat yourself anywhere you want (at least both times I was there). I seriously crave their pierogis weekly — and they are also delicious to heat back up when you get home for the next day. I love supporting this restaurant and cannot wait to return!!!

Google
Long time favorite- been coming here for years. 80% of the time, I have the Athena Salad or the wrap version. The Bomb Burrito is mwah! ...especially with the bomb sauce, if you like a lil kick! Every so often, a pierogi combo platter feeds my slavic soul. Always good eats, genuinely friendly service. If I could beg anything from Christine, it would be to bring back her amazing quinoa burgers! 🫶

Great food, the presentation was very well done. Tasted as good as it looked. Staff was very friendly and helpful.Awesome vibe throughout the restaurant. I will come back when I'm in the area.

Google
D.U.M.P! Not what it was years ago when Christine cared - she's selling, btw, which is clear from lack of caring or attention given to the joint. First, you come out smelling like a disgusting grease pit b/c the ventilation sucks and fryer oil isn't fresh -- sooo disgusting!! Second, food's just so mediocre from salads on down to mains. Third, rude waitress. Fourth, kitchen staff playing loud music, singing to it like they're cool (they're not), and ruining the homey vibe the place once had ages ago. Fifth ... skip it.

We were visiting Detroit, and Christine's turned up as a highly recommended place that happened to be nearby when we were hungry. Thank you to the Local Guides and others that led us here. The only issue I encountered was having too much of a good thing - I ordered a St. Patty's omelette, and the server asked me if I wanted everything with it. I should have asked for details, because the omelette not only came with an terrific side of their potato hash, but also had a substantial amount of potato as part of the corned beef hash inside. The highlight at our table was my wife's side order of 3 pierogies (which she was kind enough to share). They came with carmelized onions, which were the perfect addition (along with sour cream, of course). Christine's was a wonderful place for a quick meal with friendly service.

Yelp
In the recent snowstorm, Christine's Cuisine offered dinner delivery! They offer local lunch delivery, but this was new! Took advantage of it, got 1/2 dozen of their incredible pierogis. And that night they happen to have FROG LEGS! Yesssss Everything arrived hot, quick and perfectly cooked I guess I'd say this is definitely one of my fave Ferndale restaurants (no offense Fly Trap) Bomb Burrito and Potato Pancakes are also stellar

Yelp
This place only gets better with age. I remember when Christine's just opened up, and it was a small restaurant with big ideas, and great food. Now it seems like they have found their niche, and still have the great food. If you get a chance this is the place you want to go for the specials, and they pierogies! The woman at the to go counter / waitress was inviting and so friendly to everyone as they entered. They have extended their dining area and it seems to be bigger than what it was but it has not lost its charm. This is a must in Ferndale. I'm going to give them

Yelp
The Dagwood sandwich rocks! I have been an irregular visitor for decades because CC is not exactly convenient for me - I wish it were more convenient. Outstanding food, expertly prepared. Not food served hot; cold food served cold. Table service is never a problem. They are attentive and I have never been left waiting for anything. Will I return? Yes!

Yelp
Purchased a groupon a while back for our trip to Detroit. Located in Ferndale, this place is not too far from where we are staying. Location is a little tricky to enter (parking lot) as if you blink an eye you are gonna miss it. Place is small and it was not too busy when we arrived (late lunch). Our server was very nice and attentive. As for the food, I ordered the veggie pita and added chicken along with their potato salad with fresh dill. My friend ordered a reuben sandwich and potato salad as well. My pita was fresh but the chicken made it rather dry. Potato salad (redskin) was good and I loved the fresh dill but it was a little bland for my tastes. Overall, food was good but not excellent. Would definitely go back if I was visiting again as what shined was their hospitality and the rest of their menu looked good.

Yelp
My mom randomly invited me to dinner with her and my dad since ya know... they found a Groupon for this nice family restaurant and here we are. The small space is filled to the brim with love, feel it right when you walk in. It was relatively slow for a Friday night which I was thrilled about. Here's a good breakdown of the food - Lemonade - YUM! Home made and completely passes my seasoned taste buds. - Tomato basil soup with Gorgonzola - solid. - Perogi - They were on point. My preference for the potatoes is a little different but they were, in fact, authentic. Ok so the Tuscan chicken..... a little on the dry side with the rice vs noodles - but our waiter was super nice and allowed me to switch to the Tuscan Shrimp. Delish and filling. A true taste of comfort. I'll be back with hungry friends and more Groupon lol.

Yelp
Homemade food for when you don't feel like cooking yourself. The Polish Plate and Bomb Burrito are highlights, but the pastas and salads are fantastic as well. The no-nonsense service is refreshing compared to the trendier places. A Ferndale institution at this point. Please bring back BYOB!

Yelp
I am tasting my way through Ferndale, one restaurant at a time. I have called on numerous occasions for the beef stroganoff. It's only available after 4 as part of the dinner menu. Wah! I called at 3:20 for a pre-order of the stroganoff. I walked in 5 minutes early and didn't have to stand around, she had it ready. The restaurant itself is smaller but quant. Onto food-- The beef stroganoff. Delicious. The sauce has a great taste. The beef was chunked and oh so tender. It is plated/boxed over noodles. Came with a salad. I ordered a Coke to go. For my meal and tip was $25 and change. Pricey for it but I'd buy it again.

Yelp
The best Patty Melt I've had in my life, and I'm old! My go to place when I'm craving great food.

Yelp
Christine's is always my go-to for some reliably good food in Ferndale! Located in an unassuming small strip mall, Christine's is small but mighty! Whether you are in the mood for a big salad, burrito, sandwich, ravioli, or even Ukrainian fare, Christine's has you covered. This restaurant has something for everyone. Personally, I'm a huge fan of their pierogis and reuben sandwich. Don't pass up this fabulous Ferndale staple!
google avatar

Yelp
First time visit for lunch. We ordered the Turkey sub sandwich with Bettermade potato chips, and the French dip with potato salad and upgrade to French fries. The potato salad had large chunks and the dressing did not have much flavor. Two ice teas to drink. They don't offer alcoholic beverages, but you may bring your own.

Yelp
I've had my eye on this place for a while, and when was feeling a bit under the weather, I decided it was the perfect excuse to stop by for some chicken noodle soup to go. Other reviews have claimed they have the best soup in the area, so I had to try for myself. My visit was a brief, just enough time pick up my takeout order, but I couldn't help but notice the cozy and inviting interior. When I visit again, I'll be sure to dine-in. Both the chicken noodle soup and the small order of pierogis I ordered were delish. The soup was warm and soothing -- perfect for when you're not feeling your best -- and had the perfect type of noodle. The pierogis were less for helping my cold and more of a treat, but they were really good, and were topped with caramelized onions! I'll definitely have to come back to try more of their menu, especially more of the Polish dishes they offer.

Yelp
Everything I've ever ordered from there is amazing. From the stuffed tortellini to their Odessa Dinner, food is just great. Also they have the MOST amazing pirogies and sour kraut. ( minus the sour). Even if you don't normally like it you should still try it. It's subtle but great flavor made it one of my favorites. If you haven't tried this place you are definitely missing out
google avatar

Nicole T.

Yelp
The way you are treated here when the staff gives you the wrong order is nothing short of confusing and upsetting. You'll be made to feel ashamed for bringing it up and as if you're the burden.....I'm simply shocked. Everyone makes mistakes, but have the decency to acknowledge that, be kind, and fix the problem. I will never be back and I'm sorry any amount of my money was spent here.

Jennifer E.

Yelp
This is the best place for chicken noodle soup , place is cozy , atmosphere is friendly and the staff is all incredibly nice.

Yelp
I took my 8 year old son here for lunch its small quiet and cute. We sat ourselves I ordered the turkey burger on Texas toast it was tasty . didn't care too much for the potato salad but the ceasar was pretty good.
google avatar

Jayson S.

Yelp
Food was good, I came to try borscht and they didn't make it which was a bummer. I had combo plate which was good and my son had the Wet Burrito. He said it was pretty good. Service was good, place was busy with both people dining in and take out. Good ambiance and food. Worth a try.

Yelp
We love Christine's Cuisine! It's such a staple in the community. Eating their food feels like restaurant food cooked by a really good friend who just loves you and loves to cook. Things are straightforward, but always on point and always cooked from scratch with good ingredients. Elevated American food with some classic Polish dishes. Comfort food at its best. I'm always in awe of how big the menu is for such a small place! We love going for brunch because there's something for everyone. They offer more than your average coney - usually some sort of Benedict is my choice, while my boyfriend opts for sweet treats. ...But you can also get pierogi or a salad! Everything is so good that the biggest problem is what to choose. We've taken family here (who's palates are maybe ... um ... less refined?) and there's something for everyone. When we make a special trip, it's usually to split the Piedmontese burger and a salad. They do their burgers really straightforward on the flat top, and they are so. Good. As someone who doesn't eat much meat, if I do have a burger it's from Christine's. I also just like the atmosphere here. It's got a total early naughts DIY rock and roll feel that feels very authentic to Ferndale. When we run into friends on a Sun morning (ahem afteenoon) for brunch, they're people have been in the area a long time. People in the know. Townies. Our people. We're so glad that Christine's is faring through Covid! Thank you!!!

Yelp
All of the dishes here are really good. However, the one that stands out the most to me is the beef stroganoff. It's plentiful and delicious. The meat's texture is perfect. Juicy and tender just the way it should be. You can tell it's high quality steak. And the sauce that's poured over it is delectable. Creamy and hearty. Just the way it should be. It's mixed with mushrooms and I'm not the biggest fan of mushrooms but this stuff is incredible. It's pretty much addicting. I find myself scooping up the sauce with my spoon and eating it by itself when I've finished all the noodles and meat. The meal also comes with a roll and your choice of soup or salad. Kudos to Christine's Cuisine for this incredible meal! It's become part of my regular rotation.

Yelp
I have heard LOTS of good things about Christine's and finally got to try it today. So happy I did!!! I got carry-out and everything sounded good so I got two entrees, ate a little of each and saved my leftovers. The combo platter with sausage, pierogis, kapusta, and rye bread was BUSSIN. I was taking individual bites of each thing and ALSO adding kraut to the pierogi with a little sausage piece on top and dip in sour cream omg a polish girl's delight. I also got the little Italy linguine with creamy tomato basil Alfredo. I added Italian sausage because they were out of meatballs. It could have used more basil and salt, but it was delicious! It was a dream since I'm polish and italian and used to eat both kielbasa and Italian sausage together for dinner growing up! The ambiance in there is super cute and homey, it's a cozy little family joint. The woman who helped me was very nice, I called ahead and it was a 20-25 min wait for my order. I want to eat in next time and bring a bottle of wine! This is now going to be my go-to for comfort food, I can't wait to try the chicken dishes, meatballs, potato pancakes, and stroganoff. A little pricey but so worth it!!

Yelp
I don't know much about it because I my husband found it through a Groupon, but we went there on a Friday night around 7:30 and they were rudely rushing us out because they were closing at 8pm on a FRIDAY. Which I found to be weird, but they told us our food was being made to go which was fine by me, but they didn't have many options for the menu. I ordered the salmon and there was a drip of sauce on the salmon. When I asked for more I was told that I can only get one extra and there wasn't enough for me to get two sides if sauce ( which I knew was a lie) I let it slide because it felt like the lady taking my order had an attitude about me not wanting to eat dry salmon. I just left the restaurant without getting my sauce and I was upset that I had to go elsewhere to make up for the lack of flavor and moisture in the food any ways I'm willing to give them another try and next time I'm getting the Tuscan meal
google avatar

Yelp
To be honest I did not think much of the place when I walked in; relatively small and somewhat cramped space. Boy was I wrong. Christine's was a very nice polish and more restaurant in Ferndale. Stopped in for lunch with some co-workers. Had a cup of sauerkraut soup with pork on top and it was so good. Not overly sour and the pork stood out very well. Then had a ranch steak wrap and house-made coleslaw. The wrap was surprisingly light and flavorful but the coleslaw was a home run for me, crisp and fresh and not overly sweet. All in all I look forward to returning to Christine's in the future to really dig into the menu, my eyes are on the pierogies specifically. Great spot that uses fresh ingredients with a small town atmosphere!

Yelp
Have been here so many times before realizing today that I never did a review for this place. We ordered 2 Grilled chicken sandwiches, one with a side of kapusta and an Athena salad with grilled chicken on it. The kapusta was tasty with the sautéed onions and and carrots, ended up ordering it as a side after consuming my Athena salad. The chicken sandwiches were both tasty and good to the last bite. My Athena salad was pretty good too. The grilled chicken wasn't bad on it. The dressing was good on top of it.

Yelp
We were visiting the Detroit area, and Christine's turned up as a highly recommended place that happened to be nearby when we were hungry. Thank you to the Yelpers that led us here. The only downside I encountered was a bit too much of a good thing - I ordered a St. Patty's omelette, and the server asked me if I wanted everything with it. Yelp
My buddy and I came here today for the first time. A mutual friend recommended it. The inside was a lot bigger inside than I expected. They are enforcing social distancing, and they are wearing masks and sanitizing between each customer. I ordered Christine's famous bomb burrito with chicken minus black olives. It was huge. I was surprised by how big it was, based on the price of the burrito. I bite into this big ass burrito, and it is delicious, so flavorful. The house-made salsa was delicious. My buddy ordered the combination platter. That is Pierogi's grilled smoke sausage and kapusta. My buddy said it was delicious. Our server was very attentive; she answered questions. I am sorry I can't remember her name. I am so terrible with names I should have written it down. She was great.

Yelp
I have been eating at Christine's since they opened in the 90's. I have never been disappointed, not one time. I usually get the BOMB Burrito. It is SO GOOD with beans and rice and onions and melted cheese.. mmmm all finished off with their very own sauce that is absolutely killer. The beef stroganoff is amazing to the point that my kids will eat each other's left overs then fight about it. The pastas are also great. And then, AND THEN we have the pierogi! They are the absolute best. They don't have a liquor license, but you can bring your own wine, and they even have cork screws and glasses for you to use there. And! They have fresh squeezed lemonde. Yum! To top it all off, the service staff is amazing. 10 Stars I love Christine's, and so will you.
google avatar

Denise M.

Yelp
I use to love this place now it's horrible!!!! My chicken is never cooked properly but today was too much! It's completely raw and I took a bit!! Last time I called because I couldn't eat my salad without the salad dressing. Their famous line is we'll get you next time. I never say anything but this is enough for me to never go back! All I'm saying is I better not get sick from eating that piece of chicken!! I should have known the chicken wasn't going to be ready when they said 10 minutes! I am now cooking my dinner in my air fryer after I just paid over $30 for 2 meals with raw chicken in it. So much for trying to support small business during the crisis! I pledge to do it for the next 3 days I hope the next place is better than this!!
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
Food was amazing. Fresh shredded chicken and it was super flavorful. One thing to note is that it does NOT say it on the website but there is an up charge if you use a credit card. There is also a 5% discount if you use cash. Either way we will be back.

Yelp
[Posted adjusted hours: M-Sa 11-8, on door.] Eclectic. Well, you're in Ferndale after all. An intimate feel with its galley-like setting, yet not cramped. Music seems to mainly entertain the staff, playing range of classic rock to 90s alt rock mostly, but we do not mind too much. Lavatory clean, stocked, and the mosaic tiled floor to walls is thoughtful, echoing artsy-fartsy Fabulous Ferndale spirit. Always EXCELLENT, unique, tasty food; and friendly, attentive service. Their carryout service seems bustling even prior to the global plague. They keep you coming back because of the housemade dishes and condiments. The specials are what makes this locale a hidden gem. The old school copies of handwritten specials are just as legit as the menu. Pierogies are FLUFFY, light. Caramelized onions and sour cream compliment them well. The Black Bean Salad is a go-to because all the ingredients are a perfect combination of savory and texture: crunchy pita chips, crispy romaine, tender black beans, red onions, a dollop of creamy, cool sour cream. Now, the dressing is like a butyraceous buffalo sauce, but not vinegary. It should be bottled for sale. The Bomb Burrito is nonpareil choice, especially if you enjoy Mexican flavors. Easy to satisfy your tastebuds and SUPER FILLING. Though would have preferred a little less rice, and more vegetables. The brunch menu has interesting features and they do not disappoint. The Salmon Benedict had met expectations; creamy Hollandaise, perfectly cooked salmon, and over easy eggs were consummately delicious. Of course, the coffee is hot and always refreshed. In all, if you are looking for a great place to support local, check them out. They are worth it.

Alex R.

Yelp
Christine is polite, considerate, and friendly. The food is delicious, and the restaurant feels warm and inviting. There is something on the menu for everyone. When you come to Christine's, you will enjoy your experience.

Yelp
Intrigued by the whirlwind of a menu, wifey and I stopped by for a date night. The menu really has everything -- from Mexican, to American, to Polish, and then back to American. The service was nice and very friendly. I got: Gotta have both - This is a combination of half chicken and half rack of ribs. TONS of food. It's literally 2 entrees. The home fries and curly fries were nice but the chicken and ribs were a bit dry. Pierogi - There was tasty. A homey place for a bite for a low key date night.

Lisa G.

Yelp
Yuuuuuuummmmeee! I especially dig their black bean salad. It's like a deconstructed taco. I get it all of the time.

Yelp
I'm a fan of their Beef Stroganoff, especially...you will not be sorry that you got this dish for dinner. It's lovely: full of flavor, plentiful in portion size, with tender beef and mushrooms, along with a highly addictive sauce. Served with an individual size salad and a roll, it's a fine deal in house or to-go during these COVID-19 times, though you'll need to microwave it a bit when you get home for proper temperature. I promise you this, though: it's good cold, too. Makes me happy. Their soups, at least the ones I've tried, don't really impress me...I'd call them average. Nothing offensive, but nothing that'll send you anywhere, either. I honestly find the garden salad more appealing than the soups I've had. Service is good, and carryouts seem to be efficient in being prepared. I was told 25 minutes for mine and it was ready when I arrived in under 15 minutes, which is just fine: always under-promise and over-deliver. Since their Beef Stroganoff loses *nothing* when reheated, I don't mind if it sat waiting a few minutes. Christine's Cuisine has been around quite a long time, now, and it's been that way because they definitely know how to get the basics *right*. Very dependable.

Yelp
First timer! Ordered takeout. Odessa, Athena salad, and cream of potato soup. First few times I called the number said it wasn't available so maybe no call waiting? So I actually prepared to order somewhere else after half a dozen unsuccessful calls. But one last try before I did and I got through. Glad I did!!! Very friendly on the call and when I picked up, super nice. Could feel the love!! Odessa is absolutely fantastic. Exactly what you want out of pierogies, sauerkraut, and sausage. Excellent. Obviously homemade touch all throughout. Even took care in the takeout presentation which was noticed. Rye bread wasn't super ryeish though and kinda of just soaked of the sauerkraut juices which wasn't all that bad. But could have done without the rye toast. Athena salad was very good. Great colors, fresh, great dressing. Everything worked together. Wouldn't change anything. Was hoping the cream of potato soup was a little better. Had a weird taste but wasn't too bad. Wish it had more flavor I think. Will definitely come back and try some new stuff. Great selection on the menu!

Melissa N.

Yelp
Homey place with amazing home cooking. Definitely would recommend. Everything is made in house and all of the homemade dressing is great! Had the Ukrainian combo platter with pierogi, kapusta and potato pancake, with grilled buttered rye and a cup of borscht. Delicious! Husband and kid had the burger and the chicken tenders and those were delicious as well. 10/10

Yelp
We love this place. The perogies and potato pancakes are out favorites. My husband orders the Bomb burrito every time. I usually get the Anthena salad. They offer it as a wrap at lunch and if you ask nicely they will usually make it at dinner too. Tonight my mom tried the beef stroganoff and it was amazing. I had the Tuscan chicken tonight and really enjoyed it. I've had the beef burgundy before and really enjoyed that. Pro tip: You can bring your own bottle of wine when indoor dining reopens.

Yelp
I go here all the time and I love this place a lot. I have no complaints about anybody or anything. Since I am still working my way through the menu because I love some items so much, I will share some thoughts on a few dishes. The Beef Stew: Amazing, though it can be heavy if you are not hungry. Chicken Noodle Soup: It's real chicken with a clear broth that they absolutely nailed! Tuscan Shrimp: Good and consistent, but it's more a backup plan item for me. Spicy Burrito: surprisingly, my favorite burrito in the Ferndale/Hazel Park/Royal Oak area. Potato Pancakes: I never have had them but a potato-expert Russian friend I trust said, "meh" (passive aggressive for take it or leave it). If I gave a five dish review, how did I land on a 5 star with one so-so dish. It's simple. The customer service at this establishment is top notch. They provide comfort and consistency at a competitive price point. I like to dine in and bother the staff, or call ahead and pick up for friends and family. Like most places in this area, the clientele are a diverse mix. Pro-tip: If you like spicy, order the burrito spicy. You won't regret it. As always, when I return I will update the review.

Quick and friendly carry out service. First time here and the food was amazing. I'll definitely come back for both the pierogis and the bomb burrito (spicy was excellent).

Yelp
Let me start by saying the customer service is very warm and friendly. I ordered their special for the day, "Steak Diane." It was absolutely delicious! The steak was tender (cooked medium) with mashed potatoes and a very addictive mushroom gravy. I have ordered a variety of dishes and everything has been delicious. If "Steak Diane" is on the menu when you order, I highly recommend this dish. I had a carryout order and the portion was plentiful.

Yelp
Best pierogies in town! All the food that I've tasted has been delicious and placing carry out orders has been very easy and speedy!

Yelp
Went to get my nails done and was hungry. I noticed that this wasn't far away. The menu looked interesting with both pierogis and burgers. I went in and was warmly greeted and offered to sit "where I wanted." Decor is diner-ish and the seating is long and narrow. I got a burger, fries, and coke- great combo. The coke was fountain and tasty. Plenty of refills too from my waitress and other people working there. Good burger and crispy fries. Definitely gonna go back again. Brunch on the weekends is over at two.

Yelp
My husband and I had lunch at Chrisine's Cuisine in Ferndale about 2 weeks ago. I ordered a burger with onion rings and he got cream of mushroom soup and fish and chips. I had a Groupon and thought we'd try it. My burger was excellent. Onion rings were a little greasy and over 5.50 which I thought was a little high. My husband loved his soup and fish dinner. The restaurant isn't big inside and dated but the food makes up for it. Our waitress was very nice. If I had a complaint is we had to wait for our bill and nothing is itemized. So you can't check it to see if it's right. I would absolutely recommend Christine's. Also if you use Groupon check and see if they have one for Christine's. Once you buy one you can buy up to 9 more. Can't beat that!

Yelp
This place has excellent pierogies. I also love the bomb burrito. I like it spicy vegetarian but you can get it without space and meat if you choose. They have great Stroganoff as well.

Yelp
Christine's is one of our favorite hidden gems in Ferndale! For both dine in and take out. There is almost always a groupon for this place, but be warned it is only for dine in! The pierogis are one of my favorites I've had! We get them almost every time we go. The burrito, oh that burrito....it is HUGE! But so yummy. We split the pierogis and burrito as a meal and it is PLENTY. Decided to switch things up a bit when we dined in last weekend. The calamari was ok. Definitely was heavy on breading and a bit dry, but the sauce was very good. The tortellini was soooo good! Sauce was palomino, and it was filled with ricotta. Definitely will be adding the dish into my rotation! My boyfriend got the Mediterranean meatloaf (was a special that night) and he really enjoyed it. Fun fact a lot of new visitors to Christine's don't know is that you can BYOB! They'll provide you with glasses. They only serve water and sodas. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Love this place!

Yelp
Last night four friends and I ate at Christine's Cuisine. It was my second time being there. NOTE: Christine does NOT accept credit cards. Don't get caught without cash. It didn't start off well when I asked for a Mellow Yellow and they were out. Then Jeffrey B. and I got Coke which he thought tasted weird and I thought was ok, but not great. The menu is quite diverse. There is pasta, pierogies, burgers, salads and soup. A popular item is the "Bomb Burrito" which is a large burrito a la Qdoba or Chipotle for $5 with your choice of protein for an additional $2-3. The gang decided that Bomb Burrito should be contracted to Bomburrito or changed La Bambaburrito. Most of the dishes are from $8-$10. The burgers and sandwiches are about $6 but only come with a pickle. There are also a number of polish specialties like pierogies, potato pancakes and sausage. There were specials such as jambalaya. So I settled with the reuben burger and a side of curly fries. The ruben burger was good but I felt I could get something just as good at Big Boy. Also, with the burger, fries, coke, and tip my meal came to almost $15 which was quite steep for what I actually got. The food was good, but not spectacular. It seems like all these different ethnic foods are done well, but not smashingly in any area. My friends commented that the pierogies were good and cooked very well. I remember this from a past visit. Also, as others have said the sauerkraut is homemade and is pretty good. The decor is interesting and quirky. However the heat was on full blast so it was even somewhat warm for me by the time I stripped down to a t-shirt. However, the restaurant doesn't have an airlock so when the door is open, the bitter Michigan winter winds hit you full blast. The only thing stopping them is a curtain, which doesn't do much. Now for the Valerie G. bathroom review: The bathroom is Unisex but is amazing. I posted pictures. The bathroom has bright colored tiles and a quirky counter. It was fairly clean and all the products were full. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 2pm. I've never tried it and I'm not sure what's served. I like to support local businesses my wallet can take it. Here, I just don't feel compelled to go back unless someone else wants to. I could get the same food for less elsewhere.

Yelp
I'd give this place 3.5/5 stars. It's a small, diner-ish place, with '80s decor. We went here because I love pierogies, and also because I bought a Groupon for it (pay $11, get $20, not a bad deal). When I entered the restaurant, there was a line of sorts up front, and I guess some people were doing takeout. About five minutes later, I was finally asked if I was doing takeout or eating in. I'm not sure if Christine's is a self-seat place or what, but that kind of lost them a 1/2 star in my book. My friend showed up shortly after, and we got the potato pancakes ($5.50) to share, which were delicious - they had cheddar cheese or something in them, and came with sour cream. They could actually be an entree if you were looking for a smaller portion. I got the six pierogies (filled with potato and cheddar, mmmm) with curly fries, but I really didn't need the fries - the pierogies were good-sized. I had heard you could ask for deep fried, pan fried, or boiled, I think next time I will ask for boiled but the pan friend were pretty good. My friend got the combo plate with that, sausage, and some other stuff. I'd come back here again when in the mood for pierogies. It's in a tiny strip mall (free parking!) near 9 and Woodward, near a donut shop I want to eventually try. Their menu is super eclectic, it ranges from pasta to sandwiches to the Eastern European specialties we had, which was interesting. We went around 6:30pm on a Friday and they seemed to be doing a consistent business, which is good.

Yelp
You know that moment when you're starving, meeting friends in Ferndale in an hour, and not wanting to search for a parking spot before filling your belly? You know you need to eat before getting your drink on, but can't deal with circling for spots downtown. This is the moment you go to Christine's in Ferndale. That scenario might sound like it's selling Christine's short. It's a perfectly comforting and delicious breakfast spot in it's own right, as well. But its location makes it a great place to grab fresh and well-prepared food in Ferndale in the evening without dealing with Ferndale parking, which is getting increasingly hard to navigate. Christine's is known in the area for their perogies, which are quite delicious- mashed potato stuffed noodles in butter with sour cream and onions. How could THAT be bad?? They occasionally have coupons online, of the Groupon and Living Social variety- so check it out and try it for cheap. It's not over the top in terms of price, but it is just a tad more than I think it should be, though for the buck the portion sizes are always huge and provide leftovers later. Here's a rundown of some highlights: Breakfast: I haven't been here many times for breakfast, but the omelets are HUGE and fresh and I have felt a little envious of the unique breakfast platters surrounding me. I think brunch is a highlight of this place, and their menu looks great. Lunch/ dinner: Salads are a highlight. Huge, fresh and full of veggies, cheese and flavor- just the way I like them. I enjoy their lemon vinaigrette, which is their house dressing. It's a mild lemony flavor that enhances the salad without overpowering, much higher quality than your Coney Island Greek salad with a good variety of choices. What's a perfect add-on to a salad? Well, soup of course. I haven't found a soup I didn't like at Christine's- they are all homemade and flavorful. My favorite choice is the lentil soup, though the chicken noodle was tasty too. I've tasted some of their comfort food entrees as well, so here's a quick rundown: Bomb burrito with shrimp (tastes like you'd imagine, but it's HUGE and filling!), Tuscan chicken (a special worth ordering) and cheeseburger (not the best I've had, but satisfying and much better than your average diner). This being said, you'll be pleased with the homemade quality of Christine's, though not adding it to your must-go foodie destinations. I always find myself back there eventually, and that actually says a lot.
