Brooklyn’s St. Anselm Reopens After a Fire | Eater NY

"With real estate developer Aby Rosen no longer attached to the iconic skyscraper, Cooper Union now operates the building solely and faces questions about how to realistically run and update the massive space; Rosen was removed from the leasehold because he owed $21 million in rent. Rosen’s company, RFR Holdings, had been operating the building since 2019 and had been overseeing future dining developments within the building, including the expansion of the London coffee roaster chain WatchHouse Coffee along with the revitalization of the Cloud Club, a lobby diner, and a sushi bar. Rosen’s financial issues extend beyond this property—the Seagram Building that houses Major Food Group’s the Grill “carries nearly $1 billion in mortgage and mezzanine debt that must be refinanced this spring,” according to Crain’s." - Nadia Chaudhury

Luxe London WatchHouse Coffee Is Coming to the Chrysler Building | Eater NY

"Seen as a 'Sleeping Beauty' that needs to be woken up and revitalized, the building is being repositioned as more of a destination with a focus on upgraded retail; it's adding WatchHouse Coffee on the ground floor in September, owner Aby Rosen said he had been in talks with Major Food Group to fill restaurant spaces to rival the historic Cloud Club, and while a 2023 report put the building at around 70 percent capacity, several factors have allegedly stalled lease negotiations and spokespeople from MONA Retail Holdings and RFR declined to comment about forthcoming food tenants." - Emma Orlow

You are allowed in to the lobby to look around. Keep out of the way and the lobby staff are happy and so friendly. The ceilings alone are worth looking at. A truly beautiful, amazing place and my personal favourite building in the city.

Google
The Chrysler Building's ground floor reception is an absolute hidden gem. Stepping inside for the first time, we were immediately struck by the Art Deco masterpiece's exquisite interior. The polished, inlaid walls and the stunning ceiling mural create an atmosphere of timeless elegance. The craftsmanship is breathtaking, a testament to the building's iconic design. It's a serene and beautiful space, a stark contrast to the bustling New York streets outside. A truly remarkable architectural experience that left us utterly impressed.

Google
🤔😮 Amazing historic New York City skyscraper! 🌃 Tight security for a public business-conducting place, but understandable, post 9/11... Great views of the surrounding city!

Jason Stubbings

Google
An iconic New York art deco building. You are allowed to visit the lobby but make sure you follow the advice of security.

Google
I visited the Chrysler Building in the evening. It was pretty crowded but still had a great atmosphere. Unfortunately the elevator was out of service, but the climb was surprisingly pleasant. The architecture makes even the stairs feel like part of the experience. A memorable visit despite the hiccup.

Alex Mendez

Google
Visitors only have access to a about half the lobby, still you can appreciate very well the beautiful art deco lobby. There are absolutely no tours inside.

Google
The Chrysler Building is one of those places that makes you stop and stare, no matter how many times you’ve seen it. Its Art Deco design and the iconic spire look absolutely stunning, especially when the sun hits the metal details and they start to shine. I went by in the evening, and the building lit up against the night sky looked like something out of a classic movie. You can’t go inside to explore much, but even from the street, it’s worth the visit just for the architecture alone. It’s easily one of New York’s most beautiful landmarks.

Google
We lived in the city over 10 years and finally went up to see the view on Christmas Day in 2019. The line was long because it was on a Christmas Day, but it moved fast. The view is SPECTACULAR!!! Even though you are a NYC resident, I still recommend it to go up once.

Yelp
The Chrysler Building, east side, mid town, at the corner of 42nd & Lex., is one of my favorite buildings in NYC. The most gorgeous Art Deco skyscraper in the big Apple & on earth, you can't miss it. It's the tallest brick building in the world, with a steel framework, topped with it's shiny silver modernistic art deco looking needle pointing up towards the heavens. And it's Heavenly for certain. About 300 years ago it seems, I was lucky enough to work there for a couple years on the 32nd floor. Incredible views of the city from our offices. When I worked in the building there was a deli in the lobby that made the best pastrami sandwiches omg, I couldn't wait till lunch to go down the Art Deco elevators to get one. Those were the days my friend those were the days. It's a stunning Architectural marvel for sure. It's what first peaked my interest in who actually builds skyscrapers and who are the great builders in our world. Not only today, but throughout history. Still my favorite building in NYC. (In 2007, it was ranked 9th on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects) They can say what they like, I guess, but this is Yelp and it's #1 on my list. Highly highly recommend. Note: yelper Georgie M. Was so kind to send me this epic photo by Margaret Bourke. (White DC flying over manhattan) as his father also worked in the Chrysler building. What a privilege and honor to have worked in this magnificent building. Thank you so much Georgie M. xoxo

Yelp
If architecture is your thing then you can't pass up a visit to this building! This beautiful skyscraper is truly a marvel.

Yelp
This is a great view of the Chrysler building. It's sad and bad that I get this building and the Empire mixed up. I should know the ornate arches at the top of the Chrysler building by now. :/ It's a good picture view up from Lexington. Every time I come to NYC, I realize there's yet another building or site seeing locale I missed.

Yelp
Such a visually stunning place, inside and out. 5/5 for cultural influence and sheer brilliance. 2/5 for engagement with the otherwise unaddressed accessibility public. Ti's a shame that the lobby has so little to augment the experience. The only artistic display is a goblin king's head made of aluminum foil (what, right? The Art Deco icon with art made from, well, trash?!) and little else. Nothing of the history of the building in the lobby. I as a visitor could not even STAND in the center of the lobby, as the security personnel told me. Look at it from the outside. Don't bother with the lobby inside. Maybe if we had gone up to the observation deck, we would have had a different experience. But alas and alack, it is woefully disappointing.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
This building is entirely hollow. No floors or elevators or anything. The only thing I saw inside was one marble ground floor and a coyote who coughed like my dad.
google avatar

Sharon B.

Yelp
This is yet another skyscraper building that although isn't one of the tallest in Manhattan, it makes up for it in history of the building and the sheer Art Deco style especially on the inside of the building. This buildings signature look outside is of course the upper section of it which makes it stand out distinctively from all others and the way those small windows look when lit up at night. The building was completed in 1930 which I think puts it roughly around a similar time as the Empire State Building. You have to walk around the inside and see the Walls, Floors and Ceilings because the style is ageless to say the least.
google avatar

Yelp
February 23,2023 the building is closed. The lobby person told me it's not available for public. He said before the pandemic it was allowed but not anymore.

Yelp
A buddy of mine works for a DC law firm and its headquarters being located in NY's Chrysler Building. We were in NY on a weekday, so we had the chance to check out the main office which was located on some floor up in the clouds. The office had a fantastic view of the entire city - really really nice. The Chrysler Building is a massive Art Deco wonder with an ornate lobby- just as beautiful as the exterior. I think it's so cool to have actually visited a national treasure that for so many years, I'd only seen on TV.
google avatar

Yelp
The Chrysler Building is a New York icon featured in many films and comprises the skyline. Art Deco architectural style with terraced crown and recognized spire, chrome plating, stainless steel exteriors. Modernism and luxury style, the crown's distinctive triangular windows are illuminated by fluorescent lights in various colors pending the occasion. In the past I came here for employment interviews and always in awe with admiration of the art deco lobby area of the walls and ceiling. The Chrysler Building is full of history both architectural and non-architectural. Access is MTA Grand Central 42nd Street subway station.
google avatar

Nicholas O.

Yelp
I'm giving the national landmark a review because I have a direct view of it! It's so beautiful that it has cheered me up many times and has never failed to be beautiful. I love its amazing lights at night because not only they are very pretty but it helps me read in the dark! Dark as it shall be, Light shall proceed, Those who may have plenty, Those who may have barely, Both have a common thing, That thing is quite a show at midnight, As it glitters at dawn, It stands proudly at light, That thing, That building, Is the Chrysler Building.
google avatar

Marianne W.

Yelp
To me this building has more personality than the Empire State Building. If you spot it through all the new skyscrapers get a good look. I'm not going to regurgitate history or detail. You can research it on line. I just want to point out one of my favorite buildings. I never grow tired of looking at it. When you visit Manhattan find an angle to get a beautiful photo of a most beautiful piece of work architecturally.
google avatar

Kevin W.

Yelp
If you watch superhero movies, you have seen the Chrysler Building! One of famous skyscrapers you always see when they film in NYC. I love the rounded top. Very hard to get a full picture with it since it is surrounded but other tall buildings. You can find some clear shots walking around but it gets harder as you get closer.
google avatar

Heather G.

Yelp
THIS building is beautiful, iconic and remarkable.. Upon completion, May 20, 1930, the added height of the spire allowed the Chrysler Building to surpass 40 Wall Street as the tallest building in the world and the Eiffel Tower as the tallest structure. It was the first man-made structure to stand taller than 1,000 feet. Less than a year after it opened to the public on May 27, 1930, the Chrysler Building was surpassed in height by the Empire State Building, but the Chrysler Building is still the world's tallest steel-supported brick building. Ref http://onthesetofnewyork.com/mostpopularchryslerbuilding.html Definitely worth stopping by and taking a look up!

Yelp
Pretty building! I had a delicious view from my desk when I worked in Midtown East. It's easy to spot from high floors in the city or rooftops in western parts of Brooklyn and Queens. If you're getting off a train at Grand Central Station, pop over and take a look--also worthwhile to visit Tudor City and Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza, which are nearby. Midtown East is an underrated neighborhood teeming with history and beauty. Check it out today!

Yelp
It's always been my favorite building of any kind in New York. No other structure epitomizes the Art Deco movement more majestically, and I always wondered what it was like inside. Imagine my delight to find out that my new company has an office in the building and that my last trip to Manhattan meant I needed to work there for a day. I had never even been to the lobby before since I figured it would have restricted access. It does but not before you can savor the historically renovated lobby which features red Moroccan walls and yellow Siena marble floors, all of it presented in dramatic angles (see photos). Look above and you'll see a stunning ceiling mural by Edward Turnbull called "Transport and Human Endeavor". It features buildings, airplanes, and scenes from the Chrysler assembly line, as well as the Chrysler Building itself. Get past the security entry point, and you'll notice the detailed craftsmanship of the elevator doors. Once you enter the elevator cabs, there is impressive detailing in the wood panels and the ventilation grill work up above, decorative touches that employees appear to take for granted judging from their typical white-collar impatience (see photo). I got off on the 33rd floor, and to be perfectly candid, the hallways are rather nondescript by comparison. However, as I looked outside the 42nd Street window of the office I was using for the day, I noticed the top of one of the gigantic radiator caps circa 1929 that provide the first level of the building's ornamentation. It looked like an aluminum sculpture dinged by the elements, but what a glorious sight to see below you (see photo). Hell, I even took a photo in the men's room as I found the placement of the urinals and sink quite stylish (see photo). I only wish I knew somebody on the 61st floor where I could have seen one of the stunning eagle's squarish heads jutting out into the skyline. Alas, I had to make do with the photos in the lobby just before I pushed through the gorgeous silver revolving door. Truly a beautiful building.

Yelp
I've been to the top floor twice for Rice University alumni holiday party. Apparently one of the alumni works at the architecture office located there. To be honest, the office isn't really a good place to have a party - it's surrounded by narrow corridors so there's traffic everywhere, and most of the big windows are somewhat dirty so you wouldn't get a good view.
google avatar

Yelp
What a timeless, iconic testament to the vision/dreams of mankind when we set aside our differences long enough to realize what we can aspire to.

Yelp
Of the few landmark buildings that I've actually had the chance to go inside and experience (including the top of the World Trade Center South Tower in 1999), I was fortunate to be allowed inside the Chrysler Building since my now ex-boyfriend's dental office was either in the spire or close to the spire of the building. I just remember it was such an amazing experience. Unfortunately, you just can't go up and explore unless you are authorized to do so. Seriously. In my particular case, I was a guest of my dentist/boyfriend at the time who actually rented office space there and we were cleared to go up. [I was easily impressed back in the day.] This is a gorgeous Art Deco-style skyscraper with all of the elegance and grandeur you would expect from one of the tallest buildings in Midtown Manhattan (and the world). Honestly, I'm not sure how you can finagle your way past security to get a closer look at the guts of this building, but if you ever get a chance to do so---definitely take it.
google avatar

Tyler L.

Yelp
Not many people ask about this building anymore, but it was actually the world's tallest building at 1,046 feet until the Empire State Building overtook it in 1931. There is not much to do here as a visitor. There is no observation deck and you cannot go upstairs. However, I would recommend to anyone to visit the lobby once. The old art deco style used here is gorgeous and is a feast for the eyes.
google avatar

Cassandra Y.

Yelp
Definitely one of the landmarks in NY city. However, nothing much to see inside the building. It is just a office building. The best way is to go few blocks away and take picture with the full building. The architecture is beautiful~

Yelp
There are times when I swear in a past life I lived in an era when buildings like the Chrysler building were new and "the latest thing". I have such an affinity for designs such as these including the bold bevels of moldings on elevator doors and intricate patterns carved into wood on the walls. The dark marble and the golden hues that fill this building just call to another era and shows what style used to be all about. I've been visiting the Chrysler Building for various things throughout the years. Most of the time it's to visit the dry cleaner's in the basement or take the underground passage into the subway station, all convenient. Lately however I've been venturing into the upper floors to visit my dentist, and being on the 67th floor, her view is utterly spectacular. As classic as some of the design is in this building, parts of it have definitely been modernized. On one floor I've passed an office with lots of glass panels, light wood colored furniture and open spaces that look like they belong in the 2000's, not the 50's, so there's a nice mix. The security guards at the building are always friendly and professional, helping to make every visit a pleasant one. If you're in the area, and you're not familiar with the building, stop by for a visit and let your mind drink in some history.

Yelp
For me the Chrysler Building is an American Icon. As an old movie buff I've seen it featured so many times. To visit NYC and see it in a beautiful skyline as I walk the Brooklyn Promonade...priceless. I hope to venture into the lobby and take in the amazing architecture.
google avatar

Sherry W.

Yelp
This is a beautiful building to visit if you know someone who is a tenant in it. That is the only way to get pass security. We were lucky to know someone who worked in the building so we got to go to a high floor and enjoy the view. The interior has not been changed much so it is full of character.

Yelp
Raise your hand if when you look at the Chrysler Building: -You think of Art Deco -You think of Mad Men -You think of the 1930s -You think of the Great Depression -You think of your grandparents and them ultimately saying "back in my day..." -You think of gangsters -You think of any time period that hasn't been within the past forty years -You think of Sex and the City (hello, Mr. Big!) -You think of Batman -You think of Gotham -You think of Superman -You think of Metropolis -You think of gargoyles -You think of eagles -You think of pineapples -You think of The Sorcerer's Apprentice -You think the Chrysler PT Cruiser is the ugliest car ever -You think this is the most beautiful building of the Manhattan skyline -You think dear God, the new buildings in this city suck in comparison -You think wow, this really used to be the tallest building in the world at one point -You still think that the PT Cruiser is and will always be the ugliest car ever I think that covers everything...
google avatar

Maurice W.

Yelp
You're only able to take photos of Lobby & Exterior Only. While this building has lots of history, you can only take photos of it from the outside and then you can walk into the lobby where they have large photos of the exterior of the building including the chromium gargoyles. They have a very limited overview of the building and its construction, I learned more about the Chrysler Building on the Big Bus New York Tour than I did from the limited information inside the lobby of the Chrysler Building. There's doormen and security at all of the elevators and you need a keycard to even get that far. Thus you are extremely limited to the lobby which is nice for the art deco and to say "I was in the lobby of the Chrysler building" but not even worth the selfie. Disappointing.

Yelp
Wow! Only 12 other reviews of the Chrysler Building in Manhattan? While not as famous or historically significant as the other major landmarks in the district like the Empire State Building and the Brooklyn Bridge, the Chrysler Building remains the most beautiful building in all of NYC, not just Manhattan. The sight of this building will take your breath away. I stayed at the Roosevelt Hotel which is just like a block or two away, so I had the opportunity to take several shots from different street angles. Just an awesome sight! I still can't quite figure out after looking at the pictures I took if the top of the building is plain silver or has a hint of blue or something. All I know is it's awfully shiny. The sun rays would have blared down and reflected too much light for the likes of King Kong from ever climbing the top of this building. Too bad this building does not have an observation tower like the Empire State Building and the Rockefeller Center. I can't believe this structure is just a little older than the Empire State. It looks more modern to me. Maybe it's all the bling bling up top.
google avatar

Claudia B.

Yelp
I love this building. It's my favorite, and it's taken me since 2006 to step foot inside this wonderful homage to art deco. Every time I set foot in NY, I always intend to walk inside here and just never did...... until this trip. Well, I told myself I wasn't allowed to return to Los Angeles until I did so...... I needed to get back to work, so I made sure I went this time. WOW !! What a beautiful lobby. That's all I could see, and I knew that going into this, but still, I'm glad I made the effort to walk over. The outside is so impressive, but so is the inside. If you work there, or know someone who does, even better.... but even just a glimpse of the lobby, oh so worth it. CHECK IT OUT especially if you are an architecture or décor buff.
google avatar

Yelp
I love the art deco era and am a sucker for the architecture of this time. The Chrysler Building is a beautiful example of this style. On a sunny day it's a shiny glimmering sight, and at night it's an amazing beacon all lit up and fancy looking in the dark. Over the years I have been in and around this building for various reasons. The lobby is beautiful and a terrific representation of the art deco area. It's one of my favorite buildings in NYC. When it comes in view while driving over the bridge into the city at night it still looks magical to me all lit up. When I am on a plane flying home after a trip in the evening and it appears out my window it still puts a smile on my face knowing I am home. Steel, concrete, and glass. American strong. Standing tall. The way things used to be made.
google avatar

Anthony R.

Yelp
Yet another "must see" in NYC. The Chrysler Building is the most beautiful building in NY in my opinion. Definitely something you have to see.
google avatar

Dominik D.

Yelp
Long after the car company it's named after is losing its place in American culture, this icon still stands just a stones throw from GCT. It occupies our imaginations in TV and movies.
google avatar

Abelle N.

Yelp
It's way too cold here.... Does anyone want to move somewhere warm with me? The Chrysler building DOES have a front desk at the lobby guarded by security....Being a prominent building...security would be VERY strict in terms of allowing people in or not....The Chrysler Building is now recognized as New York City's greatest display of Art Deco...iv walk pass the Chrysler building multiple times and it always looked magnificent!
google avatar

Meredith K.

Yelp
Love this building both looking from within the city and looking from Jersey. WHen I moved here I got it confused with the Empire state building so often (dumb I know) I remember kids facing the building from my dorms had the best view of it at night. Never been inside but its on my to do list.
google avatar

Robert C. Y.

Yelp
As an art deco freak, I luv, luv, luv this building. I freak out everytime I sit on the roof and see that beatiful deco helmet. I plotz when I enter the lobby and see those wood inlaid deco elevator doors. I heard that they found a two story dining room, with two story art deco wood inlaid walls, in the bottom of the helmet that was the executive dining room of Chrysler. Now it is used for storage (blech!). I think I'll google it later and see if I can find something about it.
google avatar

Rochelle K.

Yelp
It was pretty cool to see the building that's in so many movies - in real life! Everything in NYC is breathtaking ( as in size of buildings, architecture, etc) and this is no different. You need to see it at night because it's beautiful!
google avatar

Matt G.

Yelp
Iconic landmark building on the NYC skyline. Once it was the highest building in the country. I would sometimes take a shortcut through the lobby to admire the nice art deco motifs inside.
google avatar

Janine C.

Yelp
This is a must. Not only is its architecture stunning but it's perfect for picture taking!
google avatar

Yelp
Every time I fly back into La Guardia from anywhere in the US., I cross my fingers in hopes that the pilot will take the route and fly alongside Manhattan. I crane my neck to peek out the tiny window in my row, hoping to get a glimpse of my absolute favorite art deco building, shining majestically in the daytime sunshine, or white lights twinkling in the night skyline. When I see it, I'm happy because I know I'm home.

Yelp
Beautiful structure in the city that often gets overshadowed by its more popular neighbor the Empire State Building. The Chrysler Building is a classic example of Art Deco architecture and considered by many contemporary architects to be one of the finest buildings in New York City. This architectural icon was the world's tallest building for 11 months...until that bastard the Empire State Building surpassed it. It is also the world's tallest brick building. Beautiful marble lobby, great observation deck and definitely a great place to visit. Sadly this American landmark was sold to the Abu Dhabi Investment Council. Do we own anything in this damn country anymore?

Joe W.

Yelp
i've lived in New York for almost 40 years and I've never been in the lobby of the Chrysler building. My partner is a big fan of art deco and so I suggested we go in. He was going to take a photo of the lobby when a security person came over and told us that we couldn't take photos and that we had to go over to the directory if we wanted to stand in the lobby. I told him we were just looking and didn't need the directory but he insisted we go over there and also that we couldn't take photos. We could not remain standing there. Only at the directory. It didn't make any sense to us. I He was aggressive and it was pretty alarming seeing that it's never happened to me anywhere in New York City. We left and I googled the Chrysler building to see what the rules were. It doesn't say anything about not taking photos or having to stand by the directory.

Yelp
Built to rival the Empire State Building which had been funded by Ford connections, the Chrysler Building is one of the most striking buildings in New York. Although not as tall, the hubcap design on the top of the building makes it easy to pick out It's also next door to one of my other favourite buildings in New York - Grand Central Station. Although there isn't an observation deck, it's worth strolling into the lobby to admire the art deco interior. If I was King Kong, I would have chosen to climb the Chrysler Building instead of the Empire State Building as I prefer the hubcap design at the top!
google avatar

Gourmet G.

Yelp
Built as the headquarters for the Chrysler Corporation in 1930 (they've long since moved out), this is one of Manhattan's most easily recognized and attractive architectural achievements. Upon completion, it was the world's tallest building, a title stolen by the Empire State Building only a few months later. There's no observation deck, but it's worth a look-see for the luxurious ground-floor interior, which is Art Deco to the max.
google avatar

D M.

Yelp
This building is proof that size doesn't always matter. The Chrysler Building is by far my favorite building in the city, both for the inside of the building, and the outside of it. While I have only really been in the entrance and not much further, it's truly a beautiful structure. In comparison to the Empire State Building, it is in far better repair, and the marble inside compares to nothing. The paintings on the ceiling compare to few other buildings. The design of it is gorgeous, and the building has very few contenders in terms of awesome buildings. This may not be as famous as other structures, but the others don't compare in terms of upkeep and design, observation deck or not.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
The five stars is for the building only. I'm sure many people would have docked the building's rating because of the way tourists like myself get treated by the building's management. However that would make my favorite skyscraper look bad and my experience wasn't it's fault. Up until this last Summer I had only been to New York one time which was way back in 1991, when I was still a child. So of course when the opportunity to travel here came, I was very excited. At the same time I was also overwhelmed with all the things I'd wanted to do in New York, and the fact I only would have 3 days to do all of it. One thing I for sure wanted to see was the Chrysler Building. I emailed the building's management inquiring about the possibility of seeing the top of the building since it was my most favorite in the World. I even explained that I was coming from Minneapolis and this might be the only time I will be able to go to New York for a long time. I recieved an email back which was nice, but the guy systematically told me I could only be in the lobby. Maybe he gets so many requests from everywhere in the World to go to the top that he has developed this standardized answer to reply to everyones requests no matter what, I don't know. However if this is a problem you are having don't you think that is a sign that maybe you should offer tours at least once in a while? I I'll bet they'd make alot of money doing that as well. It just doesn't make sense to me at all, you've got one of the most famous buildings in the whole World and you forbid people from going up in it. If that wasn't bad enough, by the time we were done going up in the Empire State Building the lobby had just closed. As we walked in the door a security guard informed us that the building was now closed and we would have to leave. I explained to him that we were from Minneapolis and would just like to look at the lobby for a few minutes. He wouldn't let us, saying that a rule was a rule and he couldn't do nothing about it. Again maybe they get so many visitors that just a couple more don't matter to them, but it should, at least try to let a couple admirers of your building look around in the lobby, is that to much to ask, especially when we were only 5 minutes past closing time? The guard didn't even radio anyone to see if it was allright, he just didn't care.

Yelp
The most beautiful building in NYC for me. Why is there NO observation deck? I would very love to climb to the top and see what's going on up there.......... I know it must be very windy...........

Yelp
My absolute favoritest building in all of NYC. I've been wanting to make a trip out to NY just to see the building since I learned about it in my design classes and I finally made it! I'm in love with the architecture of it and the insane attention to detail. I love that they used multiple Chrysler motifs just to reiterate that it was the Chrysler-owned building. I love the gargoyles on the sides, the wheel motifs on the roof, triangular shapes at the Lexington entrance and the engine ventilation motifs on the vents. I also love the distinctly Art Deco organic motifs on the elevator doors. And striped light bars at the entrance from the inside, super Art Deco-y. The ceiling art of the Chrysler Building itself is gorgeous as well. I seriously could have spent an hour or two just looking at the detail of everything. LOVES. I heard before 9/11 they actually allowed people to go up in the elevators and I'm quite sad that's not allowed anymore. There are actually signs now that prevent you from walking even remotely close to the elevators. And it gives me a sadface because I would totally die for a chance to go inside, no joke. But nevertheless the Chrysler Building gets my love for being unique among a sea of skyscrapers.

Yelp
This building is cool to see from the street, however you can't go up it like you can the Empire State. The lobby is still that old-world New York style which is nice however not too much else to see unless you work there! If you time it right, it's gorgeous from the street at dusk just as they're lighting it up :)

Yelp
Hah. Don't be fooled. At night the Chrysler Building looks like the Empire State Building! We were like WTF the Empire State Building doesn't close before 11pm!! We then asked the security guard and he made us look like fools! Arrggg! Ok FINE! We walked a couple blocks and made it the Empire State Building. I guess The Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building are like the Olsen twins. You can't tell them apart but one's hotter and the other gets ignored a lot.

Yelp
Who are you who lives in the past? Today, many people look at modern buildings and whine, "they lack the character and design of the older buildings." Well let me point out that back in it's day they were saying the same thing about the Chrysler Building comparing it to previous generation building like the Library at Alexandria and the Sphinx. Personally I hate Art Deco architecture and I find the Chrysler Building revolting. It's also cheaply built and now leaning slightly which most people don't know. Stand on the corner of 42nd and Vanderbilt and with one eye closed sight a line right along the northwest facade of the Duane Reade and you'll spot the one degree list. This is a pure example of utilitarian, communist, depression-era architecture that's now all the rage among fashionista. I would prefer to see it bulldozed and replaced with a modern, all glass tower like something they're building in Dubai right now.

Yelp
Icon of Art Deco! My favorite building since I was 5 years old. Lobby is open to visitors. The elevators are visible, but past a turnstyle available only to tenants. Exterior entrances covered by scaffolding.
