Despite the restaurant’s address, this place is actually located on Pearl Street and not Water Street. My first time here, I ended up walking around a bit to find it. The restaurant isn’t that large and the signage in front is subtle. They probably should look into getting better signage. I do like the relaxed, chill vibe of this place. There’s a bar as soon as you walk in and to the right are several small café tables with mismatched chairs. The lady at the table next to us was actually sitting on top of low dresser with pillows on top-it was kind of cute.
The food served here are more along the style of home cooked Chinese food. Most of the dishes are $10 and under. Very reasonable especially for this neighborhood.
We ordered the braised pork belly over rice, pan fried pork dumplings, minced pork tacos and an order of the chive and shrimp golden pockets.
I really enjoyed the golden pockets. The skin was nice and thin. The texture was crunchy, chewy and not oily. This was my favorite dish from my visit. The tacos were also quite good. The minced pork was really tender, and the tomatoes and cilantro gave it really good flavor. I found the braised pork belly to be a bit too fatty but the brown gravy over the rice was nice. And the dumplings tasted fresh and homemade. The meat inside was very juicy and the skin was crispy.
I thought the waitstaff was great. The service was quick, and the prices were reasonable. This place is perfect for grabbing a quick bite around South Street Seaport.
