LA’s New Restaurant Openings - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Chulita has a new location in West Adams, and, yes, it falls into the Tulum-inspired genre. (Expect wicker lamps and sexy lighting.) Like the original Venice restaurant, this is a snacky bite and cocktail type of spot, with things like fish tacos, sweet potato taquitos, and hamachi ceviche on the menu. The cocktails are what speak to us the most (the ones at the Venice location are quite good), including the cucumber margarita with jalapeño-infused tequila. " - Sylvio Martins

Yelp
I met my friend at Chulita West Adams yesterday. It was my first time at this restaurant but it definitely won't be my last. First of all it is super clean and cute; It's bright and open and airy with lovely decor. There seemed to be only one person working the entire floor while we were there but it was fine because it wasn't very busy we went at mid afternoon. So he was pretty busy but he was still attentive and friendly and gave us very nice service. The food was delicious. And they have a very veggie/vegan friendly menu, which I need because I'm a vegetarian. I got Chilaquiles because I always have to get Chilaquiles if they are on the menu. They cooked my eggs the way I asked (scrambled extra hard nothing wet), the sauce was flavorful the chips tasted fresh like they were homemade, delicious. I also got a side of the fried potatoes and while the homemade ketchup was kind of weird tasting the potatoes themselves were delish. My friend got two tacos; a cauliflower "Carne Asada" and the steak taco. They were both good but she said the steak taco was fab. Fabulous lunch experience and I will be back.

Yelp
Been here a few times - also been to the Venice location. Prefer this location as parking isn't as challenging. And meat is served here! See pics. Anyway, already started with parking. No meters. Street parking. The times I've visited, was for early dinners so parking wasn't an issue. I can't speak for later in the day or on the weekends. Good luck. Each time, I've sat at the bar. Service was excellent each time. Pretty quiet when I've been - but sitting at the bar gives you the advantage of having someone right in front of you. So, even if it was busy and packed, getting the bartender's attention would be easy. They've been attentive. Friendly and nice. As for the food - pics don't do the food justice. I like it enough to have been a few times. Food has flavor and the portion sizes are deceiving. Doesn't look like much but I've left stuffed each time. The drinks are stiff but also balanced. Not just all alcohol. I like Chulitas. The location. The vibe. The food. The Service. I'll definitely be back for more.

Yelp
Cute spot in Adams district. Went to grab drinks with friends and the place is bright, well decorated and clean. Ample street parking. Ordered chilaquiles with steak, and fish tacos. Great flavor with a kick! Had some tasty hibiscus margaritas. Strong but a little pricey. This place can get get expensive as the drinks are $18 for margaritas. But if you want good food and a good atmosphere it is worth it. The staff were great and attentive and I truly enjoyed the friendly vibes. I will be keeping this place on the list of go to's.

Yelp
I love this quiet, relaxed and friendly restaurant. You would not know it was a restaurant due to lack of signage. When you walk in, you are transported to another place. The aesthetic & decor are serene and draped in whites and creams. I've been here about 3 times and enjoy the unique space and menu. I've had their chicken tinga and steak tacos. I prefer chicken but both are good. My cousin had the cactus tacos and loved that. The beans are good, the rice was OK to me. A previous visit, i tried the vegan nachos, those were good as well. I ordered an ipa but they have many drinks with mezcal as well. I believe the gentleman's name is Rafael at the bar. Super nice and approachable

Yelp
Came here for dinner with my girls. What I love is the consistency in service and flavors. I have been here before and this visit didn't disappoint. Cocktails and food were tasty we split the guacamole, esquite, ceviche, and fundido plus we each got a taco and that was a lot. We were stuffed. We probably could have been ok with 3 shareables and a taco each but no decisions were regretted.

Yelp
Cute Mexican resto right at the heart of West Adams! I was torn between their West Adams or Venice location, but ended up picking the first considering parking, which apparently wasn't that different. The West Adams one surely was more my kind of vibe though, looking elevated casual. Plenty of attendants who were super responsive that they literally checked on us every few minutes, making sure we got what we needed. We shared their grilled corn and it did came as great opening with rich seasoning. I was surprised that the dishes came in bigger size than I guessed, making the price tag totally worth. 2 tacos literally got me stuffed. I went for Barbacoa (beef cheek), which was flawlessly juicy and tender; and the fish taco, which was equally impressive being flavorful and came with spicy kick. My friend got the pollo quesadilla as well as pollo taco and did love them, despite she thought it would be even better if she had more cheese on the quesadilla. We earlier thought of having the churros but post the main meals we had no more space in our belly so prolly next time!

Yelp
Really enjoyed the steak taco and the cauliflower taco made with homemade corn tortillas. The barbacoa taco with homemade cassava flour tortilla was good too. Very pricey for a lunch of tacos but quite enjoyable.

Yelp
Food was good. Service was friendly and helpful. Ambiance was beautiful and a nice place to meet up with friends.

Yelp
Chulita isn't super appealing on the outside, but once you walk in, the ambiance is quite nice and welcoming! We came in pretty late, about fifteen minutes before close on a Thursday. Yet they welcomed us in for dinner! The food and service were all excellent! I wasn't a fan of the mushroom taco (it had a sweet twist to it) but my companion loved it and took it to go lol also, the vegan queso is made with some sort of potato, so keep that in mind when considering the texture. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
There is a lot to love about this Instagrammable spot in West Adam's beyond its adorable interior, which evokes a bit of that Tulum vibe. I appreciated the variety of alcohol free beverage options, and the range of food offerings on the menu. You really can feed anyone in your family/friend group at Chulita. I got the steak taco on a corn tortilla and cauliflower al pastor on flour. The only mistake I made was eating the steak taco first! It was so good the cauliflower could not compare, though it was delicious in its own right. Typically I lean toward flour tortillas, but I next time I will opt for all corn here, they are just that good. We got some Papas for the table. The potatoes themselves were bomb! The house made ketchup was kinda weird. Other than that, no notes. Excellent service, food and ambiance was enjoyed by all. Price was very reasonable for LA.

Yelp
The food was honestly not good. The ceviche was bland, the tostadas were stale and the taco seemed to have all the seasoning that was missing from the ceviche. The pescado zarandeado was rubbery and the mash was runny. The "agua fresca" tasted like lime juice, water and a drop of mango puree. IT WAS NOT WORTH THE PRICE AT ALL, NONE OF IT. The service, on the other hand, was great. The servers were nice. That's it, out of the whole experience.
google avatar

Israel L.

Yelp
Two stars for the polite service. As for the food. It's honestly not worth it. After sitting down and then tasting the food, I realized who this was being catered to. The ceviche was bland. Tostadas were stale. It was a really underwhelming dish. The tacos were disappointing. The tortillas were good, but if the tortilla is the star of the dish then you have a problem. The pescado zarandeado was weird. I did not understand the dish or why it's in the menu. The kale really even isn't Satued. The drink was sooooooo weird. Overall, really disappointing. Honestly better off eating tacos across the street.

Yelp
The vegan queso is so delightful not to mention the homemade blue corn tortilla chips! Favorite taco is the cauliflower with the pineapple sala
google avatar

Ruby M.

Yelp
The tacos here are sensational! I love getting their Barbacoa tacos, perfectly marinated, with delicious seasoning, not to mention very loaded. The tacos are a bit on the pricier side, so this is perfect for a date night! Their margaritas are one of the best I've had. They also happen to have a location in the Venice area!

Yelp
I was passing by heading home and thinking about what's for dinner and I noticed Chulita! I've seen it before and always wanted to try it out, so I made a quick U-turn and parked my car! It was early so I was able to get a parking spot right in front! I was greeted by wonderful staff and ordered a spicy mezcal margarita to start my dinner. I ordered the fish taco along with the mushroom taco along with rice and black beans. I was surprised to see everything was al la carte ! I have to say I enjoyed the mushroom taco more than the fish taco( the fish was dry) . The mushroom taco flavorful and delicious , I ordered another taco. The space was cool cozy vibe . I'll be back!

Yelp
Food was amazing.. I came in for their tortilla soup. The place is beautiful, I loved the bar. they have a big selection of different bottles. Definitely coming! Everyone was very attentive of us.. Can't wait to come back with family and friends.

Yelp
What a great addition to the growing restaurant scene along West Adams Blvd. This restaurant rises far above the generic and bland offerings of many Mexican restaurants - its food sparkles with bold intensity and imagination. We had the mushroom "carnitas" tacos and the cauliflower tacos, esquites, and black beans, served with artisanal blue corn tortillas. Everything was perfectly prepared and presented, in a delightfully designed space. So happy to see that the vegetarian and vegan options were not mere afterthoughts, but right up there with any Mexican food I have eaten in the length and breadth of Los Angeles. Our server, Cascius, was awesome, knowledgeable about the menu, and was attentive without being intrusive.

Yelp
Tonight we decided to check this spot out. It's relatively new to the neighborhood so it was about time. The vibe is very cute on the inside but it's a little on the snug side. It's kinda loud but I couldn't tell if it was just because of how crowded it was. I love that the menu was on the smaller side. We ordered the rolled sweet potatoes tacos and salsa to begin with. My partner ordered the steak and I ordered the barbacoa and steak taco. We additionally ordered the corn and black beans. Her food was delicious. I loved the barbacoa taco but I didn't so much like the steak. Idk it lacked flavor to me. Really loved the mezcal selection as well.

Yelp
How have I not written a review? I've been to the Venice location, but since moving close to West Adams, this has been my go-to for delicious, healthy Mexican food. I'm a huge fan of the steak tacos and the rice and beans. The Steak taco is super delicious, and I can always make two tacos by ordering one. The atmosphere is gorgeous, and the service is always great!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so underrated. My friends and I came for dinner one day and it exceeded my expectations. We ordered the sweet potato taquitos, esquites, chicken Tinga tacos, and the quesadilla. Everything was yum but my favorite was the sweet potato taquitos. To die for! Service was also great and the location is really cute.

Yelp
Having been a longtime customer and fanatic for the Venice location, I was thrilled to find out just by walking in my neighborhood that a brand new location had opened up only a few blocks from my house! Was it fate? Did we somehow manifest this? Who could say... But seeing as they're still in a soft launch and haven't advertised anything, I wasn't expecting it to be running at full tilt just yet. Let it be known, Chulita has again assembled a team of magicians who are able to conjure the most incredible experiences you could ask for, while somehow still feeling fancy, yet casual and comfortable. As far as I can tell, everyone who works here is not only incredibly nice and willing to take the time to talk you through the menu but are also genuinely friendly and welcoming. Visually, the restaurant is stunning, truly special and stands out from almost everything I've seen in town. Definitely giving Tulum in all the best ways. The cocktails, just as they are in the Venice location, are spectacular and not overly sweet. El Pepino and the spicy margarita are my go-tos. The tacos are epic and you can do no wrong with any of them. I usually do 2 or 3 depending on what else I'm ordering but its always enough to hit the spot. For anyone with Celiac's or gluten intolerance, they have home made cassava tortillas that are better in my opinion than almost any flour tortilla I've had. But if that's not your style, the blue corn ones are equally incredible. What else can I say? As much as I'd like to gatekeep my new local favorite, everyone should know just how fun a night at Chulita is!

Yelp
My favorite thing about this restaurant were the amount of vegan options. The churros are vegan, and they were good but nothing like traditional Mexican churros. The mushroom tacos were hands down the best thing I tried. I would maybe go back just for those tacos. The fish tacos felt a little dry. The fish was a bit overcooked and I was too shy to say anything. The presentation was amazing though. The vegan nachos were good. I would probably add mushroom carnitas next time. My girlfriend didn't care for the chilaquiles. Said there was an overpowering after taste from the sauce. Plenty of parking and the service was phenomenal.

Yelp
A friend and I met up for an early dinner. The place is lovely. Service was excellent! We started with delicious guacamole and chips. Then moved to tacos! I had the barrbacoa and my friend had the fish. So delicious. We also each had a taco de nopales and this was super tasty. Looking forward to going there again!

Yelp
Bienvenida Chulita!! This restaurant is putting West Adams on the map! Great space. Great food. You can taste the freshness and quality of ingredients. Highly recommend the steak or tinga tacos and/or the quesadilla with barbacoa(!!!) and of course the esquites, yummy. On a constructive criticism note I did think the pescado taco and guacamole could use a little something extra, maybe salt. Margaritas were a hit! Lots of different flavors to try. And the service was exceptional, especially Rafi at the bar! Though everyone that works there has been delightful the two times I've been so shout out to Shannon and Abby too. Can't wait to go back and explore more of the menu, thank you Chulita!

Rob A.

Yelp
Gem of a restaurant! Excellent in all the ways that matter-- for starters great guacamole and drinks. My table had the breakfast burrito, avocado "toast", tortilla soup, and many tacos-- it was all memorable in flavor and beautifully plated. Also love the design and feel of the interior, and of course the service was friendly and personal. Go here! Glad to have this in west Adams.
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, the steak and nopales tacos were delicious. And I'm glad we shared the esquite (corn), very tasty but definitely enough to share. I want to go back and try their specialty drinks. Service and ambiance were on point

Yelp

Yelp
Omg. Our new favorite spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (And cocktails - full service bar.). They've been here only since December 2023, but oh my, like Heather says, "They sent some money on this place." Tacos are truly gourmet, drinks are great - see our photos!! We'll be back.

Yelp
Oh man! The food was beyond delicious and the waitress and staff make the experience even better. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
I recently dined at Chulita and had an absolutely delightful experience. The guacamole was a standout, bursting with freshness and flavor. I paired it with the seasonal margarita, opting for the mango and guava mix, which was refreshingly unique and delicious. The esquites were another highlight, offering a perfect blend of sweet corn, smoky chipotle, tangy lime, and just the right amount of spice. The barbacoa quesadillas were equally impressive--delicious, hearty, and filling. While the food and drinks were top-notch, what truly made the visit exceptional was the service provided by Josie. Josie was welcoming, attentive, and personable, ensuring that we had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Josie's stellar service added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal at Chulita. I highly recommend this restaurant for both its culinary delights and outstanding hospitality.

Yelp
VEGAN REVIEW Great vegan friendly Mexican spot in West Adams! Happened upon Chulita while coworking across the street. Thank you Yelp for the recommendation. Mushroom tacos on flour tortillas were AMAZING!!!! So flavorful & filling. The tortilla soup was also super tasty- black beans were a nice touch. Can't wait to come during non work hours so I can try some of their tasty looking cocktails. And VEGAN CHURROS Lovely Tulum-esque ambiance. Friendly & attentive service. Will return

Yelp
Food is great. I tried the ceviche, which was very fresh, but not my favorite dish, the mushroom tacos, which are amazing, and the sea bass fish tacos. Prices are reasonable, service was great, and the space is beautiful. Only negative comment- the chairs with the cushions are a bit too short and not the comfiest. While aesthetically pleasing, the seats just aren't practical.

Yelp
We made a reservation while at the Natural History Museum, about 15 minutes away. There were three adults and four children in our group. When we arrived there were a couple of people at the bar and two other people at a table. It was a nice and welcoming atmosphere. Our order consisted of: Hibiscus margaritas Steak taco Mexican corn Mushroom, pescado, El Pollo and a cactus/vegetarian taco Black beans/Mexican rice Barbacoa quesadilla A guava and a lime aqua fresca And for water they brought over old tequila bottles with spring water. Jeffrey was wonderful and rolled with us while our table became a big mess The food was excellent and the blue corn tortillas were a great choice for me.

Yelp
I was super excited to see a new spot to check out in West Adam's. The ambiance is nice, it's a small restaurant so I suggest you make reservations...online reservations doesn't seem to have an option for the new location yet so you should be able to call in. I enjoyed the good, I give it a 4. I tried the following: Guacamole - legit Salsa - very good Mushroom tacos - tasty & I'm not vegan Sea Bass - nothings special, dry Arroz Verde - delicious cauliflower rice Elote - corn was tasty Churros - so-so, I prefer regular churros, vegan dessert isn't my thing. Wine options was totally lacking. I know they're more of a mezcal bar but they had 1 option for each type of wine. The red wine I ended up ordering was just ok. Service here was lacking. I know it's a new location but I wasn't happy with our server. I felt super rushed from the moment I sat down. I know they need to turn over the tables but the approach wasn't very good. I asked for to-go containers for 3 dishes and she came back with 2 small containers and no bag. At the price point they're charging, I expect better service. Hopefully things will improve soon, oh and there was plenty of street parking.

Yelp
The interior of the restaurant is very nice. I like the lighting and all the nice tequila bottles. Gives it a nice touch. The service was friendly and quick. He was very helpful by recommending certain items. The reason I am rating the restaurant a 4 and not a 5 is because the food lacked flavor. The aguachile was a small fish portion. It has a bit of change from your typical aguachiles, and it did not work me.my friend had the tacos and said both lacked flavor too. Their sauces were good though. Also heads up, when asked what kind of water you want, maybe avoid still water, Agua de Piedra, because it's $8 for the bottle.

Liz I.

Yelp
Came across this place when our place required a plan B Happy we did. Food was great, drinks delicious and service impecable. They did asked a few too many times if we were ready for the check to where we sow no need since place was not that busy and we just happened to be enjoying our conversation since catching up with my bestie. Aside from that it was lovely Ps loved all the vegan options

Yelp
This evening I met two of my friends here at Chulita. My friend Sarah Powell recommended this beautiful place. The atmosphere was lively, drinks and food amazing, music poppin just overall great energy! I definitely recommend coming here for a good time amazing food and drinks. It was a great crowd tonight and amazing vibes all around! This place definitely has the vibes high! I will be coming back with more friends! I couldn't stop chatting about it once I left!

Yelp
Food. The dishes are exquisite. The guacamole is fresh and delicious. You can taste the farmers market ingredients. the service! Carlos was friendly, attentive and truly enjoyed taking care of us. Authentic and delicious experience. We can't wait to return. Such a pretty place too and cozy vibe. The music level was good. We could talk without screaming. Thank you!!!

Yelp
Really cute spot and not crowded on a Monday for lunch! Service was a bit slow but only because there was only one server for the room.
google avatar

Daisy G.

Yelp
I was so excited for this restaurant in the neighborhood but other than the drinks, it was disappointing. We tried the: guacamole (salty and stale tostadas), esquites (extremely acidic that you couldn't taste anything else), the mushroom taco, barbacoa and carne asada (tasteless with no sauce). The most disappointing part was the raw and burnt on the outside churros. Overall: stop by for a drink, but avoid everything else until they improve their menu.

Yelp
Excellent service and the best homemade vegan queso I've ever had! So wonderful to have this hidden gem in the West Adams neighborhood. Phenomenal drink selection, beautiful plants/ ambience. Highly recommend the churros, the mushroom tacos and the homemade salsa. Can't wait to go back and try everything else on the menu too!

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE! A chic vibe in the West Adams area. Delicious food (plenty of plant based options for vegans), great cocktails and staff and a fun vibe. We will be back.

Yelp
Found out about Chulita from a couple of people. No signage outside but cute inside. Not too big and not too small. We sat at the bar which had an interesting collection of tequilas. Small menu but the food was pretty good. Hibiscus Agua Fresca - ok but didn't taste like an authentic fresca Cheese quesadilla - different but tasty. Would have been better if it was actually hot Barbacoa taco - flavorful Pescado taco - tasty There's street parking if you're lucky. Adams is definitely an up and coming area with some good restaurant options. @travel_lifestyle_chow

Yelp
Hello everyone. I came for my first time to this restaurant in west Adams to check it out. I had no expectations. Friendly staff, place is beautiful but not comfortable. Cassius was our waitress she was amazing! Bartender was also great! We had some great margaritas. Now about the food. Camote tacos were incredible; the best! Guacamole came on the fly. Now!!! The black beans were divine. We had the fish taco. It was a great& huge; the fish taco of Heaven. My experience was wonderful. Sera the hostess was so friendly and kind. I almost want to move to West Adams.... As if! No way Jòse. My whole experience at this restaurant it's beyond Tulum, wonderful. I'll be back next week and try the rest.

Yelp
Outstanding!!!! Best food ever. Service epic. The tings and steak tacos are amazing. Full of flavor. Very juicy. My husband love the fish taco and cauliflower taco. Margaritas are in point. Such a great location. The area is up and coming. Go go go!!! Beautiful inside!

Yelp
Stopped by for an early dinner, three seconds after I walked out the restaurant a guy who was not my waitress approached me and said "Would you like to pay before you leave." To which I replied "Idid pay." The hostess happened to outside as well, she informed him I had already paid before leaving. He then says"I had to check" What the hell! I will never go back. He never should have done that. I don't take being profiled in such a negative racist way lightly. He was not my waiter, not security and had absolutely no right. His negative inaccurate behavior was totally unacceptable

Yelp
You want ambiance? You want good food? You want great service ? Speaking of service , the staff is what keeps bringing me back . They remember my order, my name and have become my neighborhood friends. Josie in particular makes sure every visit is a 5 star experience. THANK YOU CHULITA!!!

Yelp
I've been here twice for brunch and once for dinner and it never disappoints. Jeff took care of us at brunch and Sean at dinner, both provided friendly service and were knowledgeable about the menu. My partner and I are both vegan and gluten free and there are lots of delicious options for us, but also for our non vegan friends. The ambiance is great, clean, bright, calm decor. This is a cool little hidden neighborhood gem!

Yelp
This place has become my go-to when I want to meet for drinks or a light dinner and still have that sort of ethereal/Mykonos vacation vibe. It's truly a beautifully designed restaurant and the service and food is always perfect. As a matter of fact, when I first discovered it, a friend and I unknowingly arrived mere minutes before closing time, but the bartender didn't hesitate to load us up on a few free tequila shots. I've been going back ever since. I always get 2 carne asada tacos, chips and guac (because of course) and whatever Mezcal margarita they can whip up. Trust me, you'll have a great time. I also love that this place is in the West Adams area which is mere minutes from where I grew up.
