The 38 Essential Amsterdam Restaurants

"This bubble tea shop in the city’s Nine Streets neighborhood began as a takeout concept. While its bubble tea is unquestionably delicious (particularly the brown sugar milk tea with tapioca pearls and the mango jasmine tea with lychee jelly), Chun’s sandwiches are especially worth a visit. Thick slices of fluffy, golden-brown toasted brioche are split from the top, forming a perfect little pouch for lavish fillings. The creamy egg salad toast is wonderful in its simplicity, but you’ll never forget the bulgogi toast: tender strips of rib-eye in a Korean marinade, topped with boiled egg, spicy gochujang sauce, and yuzu mayonnaise." - Monique van Loon

Really enjoyed visiting this café! The strawberry matcha was so good — perfectly balanced, refreshing, and not too sweet. I also tried the rib eye bulgogi toast, which had great flavour, though it was a bit on the salty side. I think it would have been even better with a soft-cooked egg on top to add more creaminess, or at least having the option to choose how the egg is cooked.

Sandwiches are excellent! I saw this place all over social media and was very glad I paid it a visit! There is a queue, but it was well managed and passed quickly. The decor inside is minimalist and went really nicely with the atmosphere of the place. The Matcha is one of the best I’ve ever had, and I still think about it frequently! The sandwiches were delicious, I had a few fatty pieces of beef bulgogi in mine but my friend didn’t, and we both thought they were delicious anyway! I would highly recommend visiting here whilst in Amsterdam.

It absolutely worth the wait. We waited for 45 min, we arrived there around 10:50am. It was not bad as it was a beautiful sunny day. Inside there’s not many seats we had to wait longer because it was not take away for us. Anyways a soon as we get there you can order via QR code, and they will bring the food to the table. First was the drinks, this was my first time trying proper matcha, 10/10 was so good, both the strawberry and the banana, is so nice and creamy. The sandwiches came out after. They were amazing, honestly they made me forget how long I waited standing up outside for them. The bread is so good and very buttery, the make a whole inside the bread and stuff it with the filler. Both flavours were also delicious! Is very amazing I highly recommend!

We waited 1:30h on the queue, but the wait was worth it the rib eye bulgogi was incredible. All of the flavours perfectly balanced and paired with the amazing strawberry matcha….(nom nom nom). You can also buy high quality matcha for yourself to make at home. It’s not a place for every day brunch, but everyone needs to try it.

After being recommended to visit and try their breakfast: The place has very limited tables, and entry depends on table availability. It could happen that my friend and I arrive earlier and wait for half an hour, but if a table for three becomes available, a group of three can enter before us. The dining experience was nice and definitely worth the wait. I tried: Riy Eye Bulgogi Toast Garlic Shrimp Egg Toast Matcha Strawberry They were absolutely delicious and wonderful. Miss Sharisa’s service was very kind and pleasant.

Found this place on TikTok and it was 100% worth the hype. We waited about 30 minutes just for takeaway (waiting for a table would’ve been even longer), but the food made it completely worth it. We ordered the shrimp garlic sandwich, the ribeye, and the matcha oat strawberry drink everything was absolutely delicious. Would definitely come back.

The sandwich was honestly the most delicious one I’ve ever had! The iced matcha was also one of my favorites. But the service and staff weren’t the best. Also, be ready for long lines—even early in the morning. We ended up waiting about an hour to sit, not because it was crowded, but because the staff were slow and kept people waiting before seating them, even when there were available tables.

Chun Café Berenstraat is a great spot, but be prepared for a long line during busy hours. The food is excellent, and the coffee is very good as well. The service is fantastic—especially the young man at the entrance who manages the queue. We had a chance to chat with him while waiting, and he was very kind and helpful.
