LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"One of Koreatown’s many underrated dishes, jokbal involves sliced soft-braised pig trotters that glisten and jiggle like Jell-O. Now you can find it at a new specialist in the neighborhood, Chung Chun Jokbal. The signature pork platters are available plain or glazed in spicy sauce, and you can fill up the rest of your table with crispy mung bean pancakes, soondae (Korean blood sausage), and various soups." - sylvio martins

I’ve visited this Korean restaurant twice now, and both experiences left me genuinely impressed. The quality of the food speaks for itself—flavorful, balanced, and clearly prepared with care. What really stood out, though, was the hospitality. During my first visit, the girl server was not only attentive but also intuitively thoughtful, striking just the right balance between friendly and professional. On my second visit, the boy server brought the same warmth and helpfulness, with excellent menu suggestions and attentive service that never felt rushed. It’s rare to find a place where both the food and the staff shine so consistently. I’ll definitely be back—and recommend it to anyone who appreciates good Korean food served with genuine care.

I recently visited 청춘족발, and the food looks absolutely delicious as you can see from the photo I’ve shared. There’s clear attention to presentation and generous portions. However, there are a few areas I hope the owner might consider improving to take the experience to the next level. First, it seems like the side dishes are pre-portioned in advance for quick service. While I appreciate the efficiency, some of them came out dry, which took away from the freshness I expected. Now for the main event...the meats. We ordered the garlic bossam, jokbal, and bul-jokbal (spicy version), and all the meat dishes were moist, tender, and high quality. No complaints about the cooking or texture at all. The big downside, though, was the flavor profile: everything leaned very sweet. There was little balance between sweet and savory. Even the sides-like cabbage kimchi, radish kimchi, and brined cabbage- were sweet, making the overall flavor feel repetitive. We couldn’t finish our meal because we felt overwhelmed by the sweetness. It’s a real shame because the meat itself is excellent. One suggestion: the bean sprout soup could be made more savory or spicy to help cut through the sweetness and reset the palate. Also, the bul-jokbal would benefit from a deeper smoky flavor to distinguish it from the others. As for the garlic bossam-it was one of my favorites. The meat had almost a charcoal-grilled look that looked good. I just wish the garlic topping didn’t completely cover the pork, since it made the dish look a bit less appetizing, even though the taste was solid. I’d love to come back if these things are improved because the quality of the meat is definitely there. Just needs some tweaks for a more balanced and satisfying experience. Service was great! Server was attentive and helpful. Atmosphere was....??? Hip korean songs were playing while golf channel was playing on tv while grandpas are drinking soju in the corner 🤔

The Jokbal meat was so tender and juicy. The garlic bossam meat is so tasty, covered with a large amount of ground garlic. The service is amazing, and the price is very reasonable. It feels like before the inflation.

Loooooved this place. So so so good. The 족발 was great, but the 돼지국밥 was some of the best I've ever had, and I've had 돼지국밥 all over Korea. The service was also super super friendly and attentive. Highly recommend this place.

Def hole in the wall spot for jokbal and bossam, absolutely delicious with generous portions. The combo is a good deal and I got the jokbal and garlic bossam. Although I came for the jokbal the garlic bossam was the show stealer though. Potato pancake was also mouthwatering with crispy edges. Will be back esp since they are open late

Fantastic! The 순대볶음 (stir fried blood sausage) is phenomenal and I highly recommend it!! It is the best that I have tried in all of KTown, it had the closest taste to what I tried in Korea. The 해물파전 (seafood pancake) was also very yummy. Although it was just my first time trying out this restaurant, and it is new in town, it has already become a part of my top Korean restaurants list in Los Angeles. :)

Have you ever tried bossam? It’s a Korean boiled pork belly that you usually make lettuce/cabbage wraps with. To be honest, I don’t really eat that much meat lol but I think this garlic bossam from Chungchun was amazing! My whole family enjoyed the food so much, we ate so fast! The assorted savory pancakes came with various veggies, fishcakes, and sausages fried with egg—creating the pancake mouthfeel. Everything I tried here was new to me but so good! Highly recommend this spot for late night Korean food! 🫶

Heard a lot of good comments on this restaurant lately. Got ourselves a medium jokbal (pig’s feet) and a small spicy buckwheat noodle. The jokbal, right after the first bite, we were like woah we’re ordering jokbal from this one from now on. So moist, tender, and good portion size. The noodle impressed us even more! Perfect to pair with jokbal, sweet, slightly vinegary. I really liked it came with bean sprout soup and three different kinds of banchan as well as fresh lettuce! I’m drooling over the picture again🤤.
