Where to Find the Best Korean Restaurants in and Around New Orleans - Eater New Orleans

"This Laplace eatery, owned by chef Chung Cutno, does indeed serve some of the best beignets west of Morning Call. But the Korean barbecue tacos or po-boys are also worth the trip. Same goes for the rice bowls, summer roll, beef and vegetable dumplings, kimbop and San array of homemade soups and sandwiches. Chung’s Heavenly Cafe was closed for 14 months after Ida, reopening in November 2023." - Beth D'Addono

Google
I've passed by this place quite a bit, and finally stopped in today. They have desserts, breakfast, and lunch. The atmosphere is pretty relaxing. I got the Korean BBQ poboy, and it was absolutely AMAZING!!!! It was seasoned well with a slight kick of spice. All the flavors came together beautifully on a perfectly soft bun! My only regret is, that I didn't get two of them!!!!

Google
Excellent beignets..owner so talented..has a display made by her that's all out of paper..fascinating! Definitely will visit again

Google

As a small business owner in LaPlace for over two years, I discovered a quaint and serene spot for lunch today. The experience was delightful, with scrumptious food. Ms. Chung was incredibly kind and helpful. I am certainly looking forward to returning.

Google
Stopped by here at random traveling from Florida to Texas. I was amazed. Great food, warm atmosphere, and Ms. Chung was so sweet! My daughter and I will definitely be stopping back next road trip.

Google
For a place to meet and talk, great. Lunch? Not so much. The food was lukewarm at best and pretty bland. Latté machine was down in much like "McDonald's ice cream machine" way. The saving grace to the whole scenario was the customer service. They were kind helpful and service minded. Next time will try more of the asian fair they have there and something sweet is what they are "famous" for.

Yelp
Very friendly service and the food is good too! While the place has been there for over 20 years, I hardly have time to stop there. However, when the weather is cool, it's a great walk destination with rewarding treats. If you like homemade pastries and coffee, with tasty lunch options, please check it out!

Yelp
Cute little spot, super nice employee, great food presentation, and the sandwich was delicious.

Yelp
What a find! The proprietor, Ms Chung, is a ray of sunshine, eager to please and a good cook! We had Bibimbap which was delicious. For the vegan in our group, she made rice noodles with veggies. The grilled cheese and chicken salad sandwiches also were delicious. The beignets rivaled those of the best in New Orleans. The restaurant was closed for 14 months after Ida in 2021, so she just reopened in November 2022. She said she doesn't have her full menu open. It was good enough for us!

Yelp
She is amazing! The food is great and very pleasant and positive atmosphere. What a little gem. Wouldn't have expected to love this place as much as I did. She's a one woman show so be patient and your patience will be rewarded!

Yelp
This is a must stop place to eat in Laplace. I always get the Apple + turkey sandwich on croissant, and it is so delicious. The flavors all compliment each other. The other one we got was the Mandarin Chicken sandwich. That one was also delicious. Mrs. Chung is also super helpful and nice. 100% recommend as a lunch stop.

Mich D.

Yelp
Nice quaint cafe off the beaten path! Friendly owner who has recently reopened since Hurricane Ida! She had a limited lunch menu today-(soup and chicken salad). We got the chicken salad on Croissant-it was delicious! We were also treated to a piping hot beignet--they're amazing!! So glad we found little gem. FYI-Owner was working on her annual gingerbread house display which is going right next to a similar origami display--she is very talented! What a blessing to visit this cafe!! God is good Always!!!!

Yelp
I came in during my lunch break and got the chicken curry. It is absolutely lovely. I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Found this place on my way to meet a client in La Place,La on 8-1-11. I'm glad I did. I had the Green Apple Turkey Sandwich. I'm not big on shredded turkey , but I must admit I loved this sandwich. The turkey was tender and well seasoned. The atmosphere of this place was nice also. The waitress was friendly and helpful. The owner came out to greet me. Asked if I needed anything. I will definitely be back and recommend this place.

Yelp
This place has some of the best treats. I discovered it was getting my hair done because I immediately needed a meal after the session. I stumbled into this place to see why I see so many cars in the parking lot. I ordered a potatoes noodle dish that I was unsure about. After digging in, I was instantly transformed into an "I gotta have it again" moment. For the next 3 days, this was my lunch. I explored the menu a bit more and tried something new each return. I am happy I did so because I found many treats and Korean foods that I enjoyed. It is a great morning place for beignets when you are too far from popular beignets shops. It is also a great place if you just want a relaxing atmosphere with amiable staff and owner.

Yelp
Korean salad plus Korean roll hell of a combo for my fellow big eaters And her friendly service with a smile . It was worth the 15 minute bike ride and dammit I'll do it again. Portion and price you can't beat that with 3 hands I just moved here and the fast food places rule here I hate it I just want some real food outside of my home . Nauseousness before my appetizer I'll pass

Yelp
I love coming here for the Korean bbq - tacos or poboy. Service is always great, friendly and courteous staff. The place is clean. The chicken tacos are good as well, I prefer the beef though. I recommend this place to anyone that is curious.

Yelp
Boutique kind of place. Sandwich was soggy and fell apart. Good tastes but couldn't get past the bread being soggy elements.

Yelp
Stopped in on my way to Houston on a rainy day. I grew up in La Place in the 80s, but my, how it has grown. I found this little gem of a cafe , which boasts a western menu, and the owner wait d on me and I asked what traditional Korean dishes she served and her face lit up! She had me at bipbimbap! Very tasty and topped with bulgogi. It's a charming little spot with desserts aplenty and Korean influenced lunch items. Stop by if you're tired of the same ole same ole.
google avatar

Cheryl R.

Yelp
I have dined here several times over the years ! Haven't been in a while I decided to go and try the Bibimbap bowl! It was soo good ! I will be going back soon to get it again!! Ms Chung is always so welcoming! The food is always so fresh ! The Service is always excellent! And she bakes all kinds of delightful desserts! I f you like to try something different! Chungs the place!!!

Yelp
Very quaint little place; friendly & welcoming staff; excellent food; quality & service are both fantastic

Yelp
Had some time before our swamp tour, went on the trusty yelp app and the 1st food option to pop up was Chungs. A customer was coming out as we were going in, and she said "I love this place." =) 1st impression was that this place looks so cute. It is decorated like someone's home, with inspirational quotes everywhere. Had a map of where visitors were from. Ordered the sweet potato salad, Korean beef po-boy and ice coffee. Everything was delicious! Beef was seasoned well and juicy. Sweet potato salad was mashed and had eggs and cajun/chili pepper? seasoning. Coffee was strong. Mrs. Chung was very nice and welcoming! Will upload pics as soon as I get back home.

Yelp
The only decent dim-sum place we could find in the area. They have Chinese, sushi, Korean, all kinds of Asian food. Lots of vegetarian options.
google avatar

Kaitlin T.

Yelp
GET THE TACOS Awesome little hidden gem. Cool atmosphere. There's a large sectional with a coffee tables and games you could hang at. A gingerbread village for your kid to check out. A bathroom filled with inspirational notes guest leave and stick on the wall. Tasty food and friendly service. The tacos are huge and delicious but they come with lays potato chips. I had the Korean beef tacos and my mom had the spicy chicken. Both were great but the Korean beef had a wasabi taste that hurt my nose it was so strong in some bites. We both agreed that the grilled onions on them were amazing! They would be better with a different side but I was full enough from the tacos that I just gave my kid the chips and didn't mind too much.

Yelp
Wow, what a pleasant surprise to see this place that I thought was in the middle of nowhere. Such terrific sweets, and a great spot to stop for lunch. Run by a Korean Christian beautiful people.

Yelp
Came here for the first time the other day with my mom. It's literally down the street from the house, super convenient. We came to get a quick bite. We opted for an order of beignets $3, kolache $1.30/piece, and kimbap (Korean seaweed rolls) $6.50. Everything came out fresh and made with love in each bite. The owner, the sweet lady who made our food treated us like we were in her home. The restaurant is very clean, decorative and spacious. Great place to catch up with friends and have a quiet time. I thought overall the prices were fair. They even have a little couch area and plenty of seating to go around. Will have to try their salads and lunch specials the next time we come here.

Emily C.

Yelp
The employee was so sweet over the phone helping me figure out what I can eat with a specific diet. She made substitutions for me and was so patient. Took the order over an hour early for me and had it ready on time. The bibimbap was AMAZING. Very simple, comes in one bowl instead of with all of the different containers that some other places give you. DELICIOUS.

Andrew T.

Yelp
Food was great and service was even better. Ms. Chung was very nice and attentive. The food was excellent. I would come back to Louisiana just for her food.

Julie B.

Yelp
Cute little place, very home-y Service was quick, great for limited time at lunch. I had Tomato Soup (just the right kick of spice) and half a Mandarin Chicken Salad Sandwich. The food is made with love (you can just tell) and quality ingredients (lean baked and pulled chicken breast made up the salad). I bought one of each of their soups to bring home ~ everything was really good... I will be back when in the area and I will recommend.

Brittany C.

Yelp
Such a charming place! My family and I had the Korean poboy, shrimp tacos, chicken curry, and beignets. Everything was delicious! Highly recommend paying this place a visit! We'll be going back soon!
google avatar

Julie G.

Yelp
Good food, atmosphere, professional & good service. It's one of the best place to eat in LaPlace for brunch or for a light lunch. Good food prices.
google avatar

James B.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Korean food so when I heard one was fairly close by I jumped at the chance to try this place out. The kimbap was fantastic and everything I remembered when I grew up eating it. The bulgogi Poboy was a first for me and it was also fantastic. The bread was really incredible. I finished up the meal with an apple tart which was flakey and delicious. Mrs. Chung was really warm and made me feel like I was at home. Going to come back to this place a often as I can.
google avatar

Judy C.

Yelp
I enjoy this place for its amazing food and comforting atmosphere. The place reminds of Starbucks in the fact that you are invited to lounge around. However, unlike Starbucks the place isn't filled with people and you can expect every table to be clean. I find the place extremely cute with art, poems, and inspiring quotes all over. There is even a giant gingerbread house. I have been here numerous times and enjoyed every time. Mrs. Chung is extremely sweet and helpful. She is a magnificent chef. Her gumbo and Korean BBQ wrap are my favorite.
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
What a hidden treasure. Group of us came and ordered a variety of things from the menu. Nothing was disappointing. Sandwiches are delicious and fresh, the gumbo is suuuuper good and the baked goods top everything off sweetly, but not too sweet! The owner is really friendly too. Glad we found this place!

Semin L.

Yelp
Wow. The pastry beignets are crazy good! Way much better than original beignets. King cakes were fluffy and warm. So good.

Yolima B.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch and were very satisfied with both the food and the service. Although she was just taking phone orders, we were allowed to order direct and the food was delicious. The Korean BBQ tacos had a nice spicy kick and the chicken sandwich had the right amount of seasoning. Also, very clean and nicely decorated.

Yelp
If you're looking for a lunch spot where you stuff yourself and you have to unbuckle one notch... This isn't your place. If you're looking for a place to hit "the spot," this is for you. I had the chicken salad sandwich and corn with shrimp soup. The sandwich was light but tasty. Reminds me of Chicago where I didn't know food can make me say "oh my goodness!" The soup, brought me back to the feeling you get when it's a cold day out and you're under the covers cozy with your significant other. Yeah... It was good. Long story short, try it out. You'll love it

Yelp
Went to collage with Chung. What a sweet person, inside and out. Stopped by her place for the first time the other day and instantly felt a piece of calm. What a charming place with awesome food and service. Wish it was closer to Harvey but what a treat! May God continue to bless you Chung!
google avatar

Mallory T.

Yelp
I just love this place! The Honey Please grilled cheese is simple and yummy, and it's paired with a spicy tomato soup. My stepmom and sister had chicken salad sandwiches & both thought they were delicious too. At first my sister refused to try the summer roll because it didn't look appealing to her and she hates carrots, but we eventually convinced her to try it. She loved it as much as us. It's simple but fresh, and the wasabi sauce that comes with it is mild and refreshing. I plan to stop by next time I'm in LaPlace to grab lunch again. I hear the pastries are divine!

Yelp
Traveling from airport to LSU and found this great spot with Yelp. Fabulous local cafe with excellent food and service. Love and would recommend.

Yelp
Ate at Chung's for lunch today. On top of delicious food, the service is spectacular. The Korean BBQ poboy and the grilled cheese sandwich are both delicious. I highly recommend!

Yelp
I just had the best egg and cheese croissant I've ever had in my life. Perfect blend of savory and sweet.

Curtis B.

Yelp
Great fresh delicious food. We had the Korean Tacos and the Korean Po boy. We also bought a small King Cake that was spot on. Highly recommend this place.

Daniel G.

Yelp
I love it! The Pastery are delicious, and there sandwiches are off the hook. Recommended? Yes! And try the Korean barbecue it's to die for.

Julia L.

Yelp
CHUNGS has the best chicken salad and the best tomato soup. I get the lunch combo half sandwich and cup of soup. And of course the lemon cookie for dessert. My kids love the kalachis Chung is a sweetheart perfect place for a cozy lunch or you can get it to go!

William F.

Yelp
Great food! A truly hidden surprise regarding an exceptional lunch menu! Awesome service ... It was a please meeting Mrs. Chung! We will definitely be coming back soon!

Jaime H.

Yelp
I'm ALWAYS pleased when I go to Chung's. Aside from the delicious food, the setting is adorable. My usual is the spicy turkey wrap, but I've had the grilled cheese/tomato basil soup...didn't know grilled cheese could taste so good! Shrimp tacos are the bomb as well. There's a variety of sweets to choose from....there's not an item in this cafe that will disappoint.

Devin T.

Yelp
I got the Korean BBQ PoBoy, and it was awesome!! And then I got the maple pecan pastry.. And then I fell into a coma! Definitely going back, and such a chill environment!

Slim A.

Yelp
Absolutely love Chung's!!! I such a quiet place to eat or even have your office meetings. Adore the gingerbread houses! And I think I'm addicted to the Tuna Lunch Special.

Eric M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were traveling and happened to pass by Chung's Heavenly Sweets and decided to check it out since we both have a sweet tooth. It's a very bright open space with tables and chairs and also a cozy little lounge area. We mostly got sweets but my boyfriend got the Green Apple Turkey sandwich and really enjoyed it. It was kinda like chicken salad but not overly mayonnaise-y and well seasoned with a nice heat in the end. I loved the cakes and cupcakes! Super moist and flavorful! We got a strawberry cupcake and mini pineapple upside down and rum cakes. My favorite was a 'birthday cake', a white cake with mandarin oranges and chocolate shavings in the middle and light, almost whipped cream frosting. The owner was very nice and gave us recommendations. She makes a giant gingerbread house every Christmas and it was still up when we went in February. You can tell she is passionate about baking and loves what she does. Kudos!
