The Hottest Restaurants in Denver Right Now, Fall 2024

"Splashy from top to bottom (check out the ceiling, painted with all 17,000 words of The Art of War), the two-story LoDo outpost of this Carolinas–based project from Top Chef star Jamie Lynch proffers a modern American menu as eclectic as its decor: Think Moroccan meatballs with whipped feta and gremolata, Maryland crab cakes with cauliflower soubise and giardiniera, and fried chicken with Alabama white sauce and jalapeño cornbread. The long, sunlit bar, meanwhile, dispenses drinks with cheek, like the Duck Off with duck fat–washed bourbon, maple syrup, and bitters." - Ruth Tobias, Eater Staff

A group of us went here for brunch. The restaurant is in a great area! The quotes on the wall are from a book they have customers sign. So much fun. Staff were very nice and friendly. We all had different dishes and all of them were delicious. We were there for about 2 hours laughing and having fun, not once did we feel they wanted to turn the table and needed us to leave. They had a mimosa mini bar with 4 mini mimosa’s that was really nice. I would definitely recommend. The food came out in good time and we did not have to wait long. If you want to hang out downtown and grab some food or drinks this is a good place to go.

Went with a group for brunch. It was great. They were accommodating when we made changes to our reservation. The staff was attentive and on the ball. The food was delicious. We got their Hot Shit breakfast. Everyone left satisfied and happy. The meal is for 2 people $38pp no taxes. Be prepared the bills have a service charge added outside of the tax and outside of the gratuity.

I came to Church & Union while in Denver for work with one of my girlfriends, and we ended up having way more fun than we expected. We came in late and honestly weren’t sure what the vibe would be, but the place was still alive with energy. Great crowd, great playlists, and just the kind of ambiance you want when you’re looking to unwind after a long day. The food? So good. Every dish came out hot, flavorful, and perfectly plated—even that late in the night. We shared a few plates, and everything hit. The cocktails were creative and strong (in the best way), and the staff was super friendly without being overbearing. It’s rare to find a spot that balances good food with a solid late-night scene, but Church & Union nailed it. We laughed, we danced a little in our seats, and we stayed longer than we meant to. Definitely a new favorite when I’m in town. Five stars. Vibe unmatched.

5 stars all around. Hands down my favorite place to eat in Denver, great service and cocktails but the food is even better. The lamb burger is one of the best things I’ve eaten in years. Will definitely be returning

We had a great time at church and Union in Denver. The restaurant itself has a cool setup with a nice bar and ample dining. The service was friendly and attentive, but not pushy. The fried chicken and the mussels with saffron were a real treat! Finishing with the banana benofee pudding, we decided we are definitely coming back (esp for cocktails) next time we’re in the area.

Google
So excited when I saw this pop up in Denver! I have been for both brunch and dinner several times and have been SO pleased! From the atmosphere and friendly servers to the detail put into each dish. I love the menus equally and have opted for fried chicken sandwich, shrimp and grits, or holy $h!t breakfast (so worth it and pairs nicely with their spicy bloody margaritas or bottomless mimosas!) and for dinner I’ve been loving the tuna crudo, braided ravioli, and literally any cut of their steaks. It’s a staple for entertaining our guests, cozy brunches, or business meals. Very close to downtown happenings - short walk from Crawford Hotel and always willing to accommodate parties!

We had valentines day reservations for 7:15. There were at least 8 couples waiting to be sat when we arrived. We got a table about 30 minutes later. However, they sat us at a 6 top with another couple who was midway through their meal! We found this extremely ridiculous, especially considering we were there to have a romantic dinner for two. For $100 a person, I can't say it was worth it. The food was okay, but overall not seasoned well. The lamb chops should have fallen off the bone for that price, but they were undercooked and chewy. Half the carrots were close to raw. The mashed potatoes were thin and lumpy. The best part of the night was our server, who was great. We've had better dinners for much less elsewhere. Won't be going back, even with the $50 gift card they gave us at the end.

Google
Really liked the atmosphere and lay out. The service was excellent. The food was 50/50. The Moroccan meatballs were delicious. The hand braided raviolis were equally delicious. Unfortunately had some issues with the Fried chicken dish being over and under cooked at same time. (Different pieces). The server compted us a dessert. We chose the Dark chocolate brownie it was disappointing. Overall Nice place , food needs a little work. The manager never came to table even after finding the under cooked chicken. Our server is the only reason for the 4 star service rating.

Yelp
Finally had our late Valentine's Day dinner, or early anniversary dinner. Tonight we checked out @churchanduniondenver As usual, everything was incredible and worth the hype. The charcuterie board, while pricey, was well worth it and even after eating it a second time at home, there are still left overs! The the tuna crudo was so fresh; tender where it should be and crunchy where it needed to be. They also served a house made hummus as a starter which was a perfect surprise. Entrees were the Red Troat with spinach gnudi and charred leeks and the featured Lamb Chops with Brussels, pomegranate and celery root. Banoffee and a Hennessy espresso martini for dessert.

Yelp
Came to Denver for a weekend and finished it off with going to Church and Union. After spending some time hanging out in Estes Park and Georgetown it was time to see what urban food life was like in Denver. This restaurant is lit. Really cool vibe with the words all over walls. Nice urban, cool feel to it. My waiter was incredible and did a great job with service. Recommended the trout, pictured here which was the best trout I've ever had and perfectly tender. Very good restaurant. Has a intermountain west meets southern style type of cooking that I really enjoyed.

Yelp
I recently visited this new restaurant that offers brunch, lunch, and dinner options. The moment I stepped inside, I was transported to an ambiance reminiscent of California or New York. This is currently the only location in Colorado, with another on the East Coast, making it a unique find in the area. The restaurant has a unique concept that really stands out. It blends a casual coffee shop vibe with a full dining experience, which sets it apart from typical eateries. I started with a coffee latte that was beautifully presented, making it feel like I was in a chic coffee shop. The aesthetic appeal was impressive! The breakfast sandwich was hearty, featuring breakfast sausage, home fries, a fried egg, cheese, and a croissant. It was delicious and filling. I also tried the avocado toast, adding an egg for just $3. The portion was generous, and I had leftovers to take home. The omelet was delightful, packed with sautéed onions, cheddar cheese, home fries, and toast. Every bite was satisfying. While I didn't try any cocktails during this visit, I've heard great things about their offerings. They are known for serving fantastic cocktails, and I look forward to sampling them in the future. Reservations are available online. I made one for my networking group, but we ended up not needing it on an early Saturday morning, as we were among the first guests when they opened. The customer service was exceptional! Our server was incredibly nice and helpful with the menu. It's been a while since I've experienced such wonderful service, which truly enhanced the overall dining experience. I can't wait to return and try their lunch and dinner options, as well as indulge in some of their delicious desserts. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Colorado!

Yelp
I'm racking up the good reviews lately. Another great new restaurant in Denver that gets a five out of five. Church and union is brand new and just blocks away from Union Station. I have already been three times in the last two months, and not a bad word to say. Our first visit was right after opening, we got to Sample the menu and I loved their steak, meatballs, hummus, and they had amazing cocktails. Our second visit was for Thanksgiving, which was awesome. There was a set menu and it was only $75 per person. And you could add a drink pairing if you wished. Everything was delicious whether it was the turkey and fixings or a nice steak like I got. They also had this amazing butternut squash soup to start the meal My last visit was for Brunch. This might've been my favorite because it had my favorite dish: shrimp and grits. This might've been the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. So rich and creamy and delicious with huge shrimps that they did not skim out on . Don't you hate it when you get shrimp and grits at a restaurant and they only give you three shrimp. The portions are always generous here. This was divine. I also must mention the brioche French toast and the avocado toast. Both also a delicious way to start the morning. If you're a bottomless mimosa gal, they have your back here. I got a bloody Mary, which was pretty decent as well. I can't wait to come back for another dinner and another brunch soon. This place slaps.

Yelp
Came here with my partner on a date night -- here are my thoughts! 1. Ambiance--This place is perfect for a second date night if you don't mind shelling ~$75 pp (2 drinks, shared app, 2 entrees). The interior is quite sexy, with thought provoking quotes on the walls which make for great conversation starters. The bill is served in an art of war booklet if that tells you anything. 2. Service --Dinner Service is EXCELLENT, there wasn't a SECOND in which Bo our server didnt ensure our water glasses were brimming, our table was clean of crumbs, and food was cleared. He even packaged our leftovers, going the extra mile and labeling them which was a nice surprise the next morning. Probably some of the best and most attentive service I've experienced in Denver. 3. Food-- this is where I think this restaurant is still getting its sea legs in terms of menu items. TLDR-- the entrees are AWESOME, The following is what we ordered: a) Mile Hight Heat Cocktail: Delicious, and I'm not even a rum and pineapple girl. A slight touch of jalepeno, so wasn't really packing the "heat" -- but it was delicious. b) Moroccan Meatballs: Beautifully cooked, fluffy, with this delicious whipped feta. Sadly the table least favorite since the bbq "spices" didn't really come through, and was very HEAVY on the sauce, which overpowered the flavor of the meatball. It made the bbq profile the star, giving a strong sweet undertone rather than a Moroccan spice twist. I would avoid this if you are not a STRONG bbq sauce fan. The meatballs sauce aside were delicious, I almost wish there was no sauce/much less sauce or even more garlicky lemony gremolata to give the sweetness a contrast. c) Thai Curry Steak Tartare: Texture was spot on and the Thai curry flavor was quite cool, sadly similar to the meatballs with the dish being on the sweeter side. With a tartare you want a nice contrast of bright tangy flavored to contrast with the savory of the beef. Instead you get savory sweet, and you miss that tang. A bit of a missed opportunity dish wise, but if a stronger tang element was added i have no doubt this app would be a star. d) Lamb Burger: Goes to show you don't have to order the fanciest thing on the menu to be like DAMN that is SO GOOD. Burger cooked to perfection, with this delicious Gorgonzola fondue. The red onion Marmelade was a tad sweet, so perhaps less quantity to make it more balanced, but that doesn't change the fact that it was a delicious f'ing burger and I promise you won't be disappointed. Fries also were perfect. e) Braided Ravioli: This was f*cking fantastic. For a restaurant that is not Italian, this ravioli gives spuntino, tavernetta, Rioja, etc a run for their money. First getting a perfectly even cook especially with it being braided isn't always easy on a busy night like Saturday. Each ravioli melted in your mouth... and don't even get me started on the sauce. It had this wonderful richness, with pops of tang due to some capers. It's served in the massive bowl and a heap load of sauce, with delicious crostinis on the side, given the best of both tomato soup/incredible pasta worlds. This is the kind of dish you door dash ignoring the price because it will heal all the bad things in your day. Church and Union is the hot new bombshell on the lodo block, and if you stick to the entrees for now you will have an amazing meal, and a hot date night to boot.

Yelp
After an incredible experience at their original location in Charleston, we were incredibly excited to try out their Denver location for our friends bday and we're incredibly pleased! Menu is a little bit different here due to regional ingredients. Ambience is hipster but classy. Casual attire and sophisticated food! What's better than that?! Service was on point attentive, but not smothering. We started with delicious, cocktails, and mock tails. Followed by a few appetizers that were incredibly memorable! The bacon and melon, the Allenati Noah shrimp and Parker rolls were all insane! Beautiful flavors and platting. Dinner was comfort food with large portions. Delicious fried chicken was the highlight for the table closely followed by the pasta. We shared the buttermilk cake for dessert! Loved our experience and look forward to our return for brunch!

Yelp
Came here for brunch on Valentines Day. It was super quiet maybe 1-2 other tables eating. We decided to get the big ass brunch board. It is $38/pp and you get 1 mimosa or Bloody Mary with it. It comes with 4 HUGE very yeasty gooey donuts, half fried chicken, 6 eggs, 2 biscuits and a shit ton of bacon with jam and butter. I wish they did 4 biscuits and 2 donuts because the donuts are huge. There's no way 2 people can eat these 4 donuts. I loooooooved the biscuits. I asked for a side of gravy and yum the gravy was AMAZING with the biscuits and eggs and bacon. I loved the chicken also, all the food was hot and fresh. It's a lot for 2 people- it could honestly feed 4 people very well but depending on how many people eat they charge $38/pp and I assume would up the order for 4. I really want to try the dinner they have some pasta items and filet that looks delicious. The place is dark and moody like a dark bar with writing graffiti like all Over walls. The waiter we had was very attentive and great. They charge 15% service charge on meals automatically that goes to house staff so keep in mind when tipping. Would love to go back and try more things.

Yelp
This restaurant's open-concept design creates a welcoming and modern atmosphere, complemented by a unique and diverse menu. We sampled a variety of entrées, and to our surprise, the standout dishes were the crab cakes and the lamb burger--both packed with flavor and expertly prepared. Unfortunately, the salmon lacked depth in taste, and the trout was slightly dry, falling short of expectations. On the bright side, the service was excellent--attentive and friendly without being overbearing. The extensive cocktail selection and impressive variety of wines by the glass make it a great spot for both food and drinks. While a few dishes missed the mark, the overall experience was enjoyable, and we'd return to explore more of the menu.

Yelp
I've been waiting for this spot to finally open in Denver, and I'm so excited it now has! Love the vibe -- very trendy, but also sophisticated. Nice long bar, plus lots of comfy tables spaced well apart. The ceiling is all a huge excerpt from Sun Tzu's "Art of War," adding to the cool ambiance. Service is impeccable. They brought in staff from their other locations to help open here, so everything is super smooth. Everyone is friendly and knows their S. Drinks are on point. The Ghost is like a spicy cucumber margarita -- with a bit of cool and a bit of spice and honestly my perfect cocktail. Fantastic food. Southern meets Midwest farm-to-table. The ahi tuna a crispy rice app was a really cool take on the concept, the meatballs were some of my favorites I've ever had, and the local lamb shank fell off the bone and was full of flavor! I'm 100% coming back, especially cause I didn't get to try the bbq shrimp yet!

Yelp
I ate at Church and Union in late December as part of a work function, and I attended as a +1. I will say I did quite like some things about C&U, but let's start with the rough stuff. Service - In reading other reviews, I've learned they use a team service model. It felt very much like they were training other staff, and the cadence on many things was very off. We were 10 minutes late to the party and despite sending that note ahead, they seated the group and took drink orders. That in and of itself is fine, but the shared service model resulted in them not circling back for our drink orders. Food ordering was similarly glitchy, and there was poor communication (between our party and the staff). Atmosphere - It's dark in C&U, and it is loud, very loud. So loud, in fact, that when a staff miscommunication resulted in food being delivered to the wrong table (ours) a minute after ordering and before our drinks, the server at the other end of the table couldn't hear my query as to how it could be ours. Needless to say, the space would really benefit from some sound treatment. The good - The food is interesting and inventive enough to keep you interested. The FO Agnilotti is excellent. The steaks are priced below the high-end steak houses and are very good. The cocktail program is well-curated and matches the food's level of interest. All in all, it has the potential to be above average; they've got to sort the service and invest in the space a little because while it's interesting and well executed, the food won't overcome the other issues.

Yelp
A friend and I went for brunch and it was great. It's a beautiful decor. I thought the carafe of mimosas was a good deal for a couple of people and you can each choose the juice you want. They started us out with a little amuse bouche and I got the breakfast sandwich that was delicious. Our service was excellent too.

Yelp
It's a quaint spot close to Union Station. Dark & moody vibe. Tasty drinks and even better food. Bartender was attentive and welcoming. The house hummus should be packaged for mass distribution. I can eat that with anything. The Moroccan meatballs were killer too!

Yelp
My new fav restaurant in Denver! I went to the location in Charleston years ago and was blown away, so I was super excited the Denver location lived up to the hype! Definitely recommend for a date night or special occasion. Service was great. A bit loud and dark, but amazing atmosphere! Hand braided ravioli is incredible and the filet mignon melts in your mouth. 10/10!

Yelp
Lots of great places to go in Denver. This is not one. Mediocre food. Poor service. Cool space and decor. But adding 15% service fee AND looking for 20% gratuity put me over the edge. If you need to pay wages, increase prices. Hiding a 15% Service Fee everyone pays on top of menu pricing is just plain dishonest. If you want to take advantage of ignorant customers then go ahead. Just know I won't be one of them.

Yelp
This fun and inviting restaurant is pretty new and just started offering brunch at the beginning of November. I was super excited to try it. The interior is welcoming and a bit funky with the words from "Art of War" covering the walls. They even bring you your check in an "Art of War" book. It was a lovely place to settle in for an afternoon. The server was welcoming and professional. Honestly, the service was outstanding. The food on the other hand could have been better. We were celebrating that day so I had a grapefruit and a pineapple mimosa. I had them by the glass as I was only intending to have one but it was so refreshing that I had to order a second one. The mimosas also come by a carafe or you can enjoy bottomless with an entree. Both the grapefruit and pineapple were fresh fruit and equally flavorful. The juice comes separately so you can be the master mixologist of your own cocktail. This is appealing to me as some places make the mimosa with too much juice. For my entre I ordered the Applewood bacon omelet. With home fries and toast. The omelet came overdone to the point that it was dry and one step away from burnt. The Applewood bacon was misleading as it was Canadian bacon. Which was a disappointment. The home fries were good but the toast was almost burnt and uneatable. It was a birthday celebration but the food lacked the celebratory vibe and expectation for such a lovely venue.

Yelp
Church & Union has mastered setting the price high enough that the guest and reviewers are too ashamed to review it honestly. Four of us tonight and none of us said we would return. Vibe/Ambiance: 4-stars Service: 1-star Food: 2-stars Value: I would like a refund First of all, abandon this "team service" model. At Church & Union it is executed as "team failure." You sit down and a seasoned server assaults you with a rehearsed speech of the menu. Later, you find out that not only is he not your server but everything he told you is actually on the menu. It's like having a random guy ring your door bell and take ten minutes to describe what your own house looks like. Both events are utter wastes of time and not helpful. Once he showed up, our waiter was immediately identified as poorly trained. Not only did he lack all knowledge of the bar, wine menu and signature drinks, he was easily coaxed into admitting the restaurant has not allowed him to taste all the dishes that he is responsible for representing. Effectively, he has been rendered a mobile self-service kiosk in a "fine dining" restaurant. The servers wear black shirts on black pants with a black tie. It's a nice touch in the black graffiti space...except not one of them has been trained to wear their gold tie clips correctly and the ties get dragged on the food and the table. More than just a uniform issue, a good deal of this is a simple lack of training to serve from the left and take from the right, not lean over the table for all seats. It would be ideal to keep this review short like Sun Su's Art of War so I will touch briefly on the underperforming menu that lacks a cohesive theme. The appetizers individually are the highlights but when served together, they do NOT complement each other, instead they actually exist in opposition. DO NOT BOTHER ORDERING STEAKS HERE. The temps are all wrong, the prices are Shannahans level but the cuts, flavor and sizzle are lacking. Plus the house J-1 sauce is odd enough to imprint negatively. Lastly, desserts are a top-to-bottom fail. Not only are they uninspiring but they arrive to the table not cold, not hot and clearly not fresh. I am not ashamed, like other diners and reviewers, to admit this was a $600 flush of money and not worth the experience without major improvements. There is insult to the injury as well. ALL of this was pointed out to our waiter and received no care or manager attention. PLUS, get the "added kitchen fee" off the menu. If you feel the kitchen needs better wages, pay them and price your food accordingly. This practice is shameful and assumes the public is just stupid. Based on the 4-star and 5-star reviews of Church & Union, the Denver public may just be proving that point.

Yelp
Ambiance is really nice and I love the creativity of the menu! We got the agnolotti, Salmon, and the glazed carrots. Service is great, we had Andrew. He was cheerful and able to answer all of the questions I had. Can't wait to come back and try more things!

Yelp
Went there for our valentines dinner and it didn't go well: It was a price fix menu; The chicken liver pate was excellent; service was excellent. The rack of lamb was awful, full of gristle, worst I've ever had, didn't realize rack of lamb could be that bad And this was the main course. I was offered another meal however by that time I was so dissatisfied I refused. They only had to look at what I had tried to eat and credited my before dinner and the wine paring But not the main course. Very disappointed was hoping to find a new restaurant for special occasion.

Yelp
My GF and I came here for dinner. The space is cool, though it desperately needs signage and of course, it breaks my heart a little that only chains can afford to be in Denver anymore. Anyway, they've only been open a month, so earlier crappy reviews I would pay little heed to. Service was nice and attentive. We started with the app special of prawns in a spicy, delicious sauce. It was super good, and we both enjoyed it. I got the duck and she got the mussels. Mine was fantastic. A huge portion of duck breast with 2 large roulades of duck confit. I couldn't even eat half! Needless to say, my husband also enjoyed the duck when I got home. My poor friend, though. Her mussels were gritty, and only a few of them made it through. They did take them off the bill, without us asking. More sadness for my friend as they didn't have anything decaf, coffee, or tea, and the poor server kept having to come back with bad news. Unsure if the server's fault and or the restaurant's? Anyway, she finally just got a regular espresso. We got the Basque cheesecake, which was good though I felt a bit sad that it was a square piece sans all the burnt delicious of at least one edge. Overall I'd go back, maybe not my friend so much, unfortunately. Again, they've only been open a month!

Yelp
Great brunch spot for bottomless mimosas! The breakfast sandwich was hands down the best thing we ordered.

Yelp
From start to end - everything was terrific. The service (and knowledge the wait staff has on every menu item was superb), the food, and the ambiance. What we thought was really a standout was the side dishes. Very shareable- The sides we had was the Roasted Hen of Woods and Rapiti. One of the few restaurants that I can say the sides were at the same level as the entrees. Love this newcomer to Denver's LoDo area. This will do very well.

Yelp
We had an incredible night at C&U. The food was phenomenal. We really enjoyed the F*** O*** app, meatballs, tuna crudo, Beast Loaf!, and Lam Shank (wowww). The staff was so friendly and accommodating. We felt like VIPs the way they took care of us. The drink menu was very unique (try the duck fat whiskey.. super smooth). The art installations were fun and quirky. Overall, the best Denver dining experience I ever had.

Sarah P.

Yelp
What a beautiful restaurant! The interiors in this place are stunning, you can tell a lot of thought went into making it perfect. The food and drinks were DELICIOUS, not one single dish missed the mark, and the wait staff were all very nice, attentive, and efficient. Will definitely be returning!!

Rachel W.

Yelp
We made a reservation for 8PM at Church and Union, and arrived at 7:50PM for the reservation. Upon arrival, the hostess was complete callous, and told us it would be just a minute. At 8:15PM, and after a couple arrived after us and was sat before us, we asked how long it would be and she said there were still 3 tables ahead of us. We made these reservations because we had a show to go to at 9:45, so we did not have time to wait. What is the point of a reservation if you don't have a plan to have the tables ready? It would have been a half hour before we were even sat. On top of that, the hostess was not transparent and incredibly rude. Immediately after we checked in we questioned before any issues, we questioned "what's her problem...?". If you're running behind on reservation times it's understandable, but at least communicate and don't be rude about it. Poor management, and terrible staffing choices.

Tori W.

Yelp
The BEST time at Church & Union. New to LODO, but truly the most genuine customer service, great time, awesome atmosphere, HIGHLY recommend. AMAZING people and experience.

Paul L.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, food, and service. Plus their kitchen is open late, which Denver sorely needs. Tried a few appetizers, as well as the lamb shank and beast loaf, and everything was fantastic. Had one of every dessert as well and couldn't have been happier!

Inne P.

Yelp
Great food, excellent service, good music, great ambiance! We had the Mediterranean meatballs, meatloaf and the ravioli. Everything tasted great and I highly recommend the Ghost drink! Will definitely go again !

Yelp
Overrated, the cuisine is average, for me, it was a huge disappointment. About the service - at some point, we looked at our waiter and asked each other "Is he drunk?".
