Churro Co Bakery - Review - North Burnet - Austin - The Infatuation

"The team behind the popular Mexican restaurants Gabriela’s and Taquero Mucho recently expanded their Austin footprint with a churro spot right next to the North Burnet location, so you can finish off your meal with something sweet. In addition to classic churros, you can also order a s’mores version—tossed in graham sugar, with Mexican chocolate sauce and toasted marshmallow—plus a variety of funnel cakes with fun toppings like fruity pebbles and condensed milk." - Nicolai McCrary

Austin Bakery Churro Co. Opens in North Austin | Eater Austin

"Opened April 5 at 11101 Burnet Road, Suite A140 in North Burnet, this new dessert bakery from Gabriela’s Group (founded by Gabriela and Arturo Bucio) expands a popular churro truck into a vibrant brick-and-mortar next to the group's Taquero Mucho. The space is picture-ready with lots of pinks, neon signage, velvet bars, chairs and booths, a lilac ceiling, and playful pink cartoon wallpaper. The expanded menu features hand-made, grandma-style churros in original and new flavors plus new funnel cakes, and offers coffees, horchatas, milkshakes, floats, matcha, and aguas frescas. The truck — started in 2014 by David Martinez and Leo Mendoza and acquired by Gabriela’s Group in spring 2022 — remains in operation with an updated look at its South First location. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. daily." - Nadia Chaudhury

I CAN NOT believe this place has only been opened a year?? It’s run down, filthy, furniture falling apart and rusting, floor destroyed. The more I looked the worse it got. Very difficult to find at night. They have a small white logo on the door. They had ONE employee back there, fighting for her life. No assistance. No back up. We waited 15 minutes to get our order taken then another 20 for our order. She was a sweetheart, I really felt awful for her that she was put into this position, she’s the only reason they get more than one star. We ordered traditional churros and a Xtraberry funnel cake. The churros came out looking burnt, which we ignored because we had seen other churros come out while we waited and they all looked like that, maybe it was just how they looked? Nope. They tasted and were burnt. Awful. The funnel cake is tiny for the price! It comes out already soggy and cold. They give a little bit of the “xtra” strawberries. Just, not worth the $12. Not counting this last point against them because not everyone will feel the same way about it, but there were “personality tests” displayed proudly on the counter from church of Scientology. Gave me a super weird vibe, but again, not everyone is going to feel that way. Every time I give this restaurant group another chance, I’m let down. If you’re only going for the instagram friendly look and drinks, it’ll be fine. If you actually care about the quality, taste, and value of your food and good service, you will hate it. Just like the other restaurants in this group, it’s all sparkle, no actual good content. Pictures of their run down sparkle attached.

Google
A super cute bakery and dessert shop located close to The Domain. Offering tons of sweets treats and drinks, this place is a must try! Covered in aesthetics, neon signs and all things pink! Such a fun spot for girls day, bachelorette parties and kids! We ordered the campfire churro and fruity pebbles funnel cake - both were absolutely incredible!

Google
With Taquerio Mucho next door, this is the dessert place next door by the same owner. And you can tell. As other reviews have stated, the place is filthy. It's really dirty, not being cleaned or maintained. The food is average (expected after average tacos), the design is kitsch, and the service here was better than next door, HOWEVER, you can tell how much the owner hates the employees. One person working alone at night with about 10 orders... I see why all the other issues are coming into play. My wife ordered a root beer float but got a coke float... so they don't really get that those are different drinks, I guess. 15 minutes for a couple of churros. There are better dessert places around. You can skip this one.

Google
Tried valentine Churro. Ordered it for pick up. I recommend that you eat it there than pickup. Loved it. I am glad they opened a store on Burnet road. They still have their food truck downtown. All the best to them.

Google
My husband and I stopped by after seeing this place on TikTok, and it did not disappoint. I had the Xtraberry Funnel Cake & my Husband had The Campfire Churro and both desserts were absolutely delicious!!! We also had the Horchata which was amazing!!! The aesthetic is so cute (I love pink and happy vibes.) They have so many pastries that I wanted to try, but will have to come back for. We are planning to bring our daughters out to check out the place because we know they'll love it just as much as we did.

Google
The place is very cute for place for a date or hang out with girls. I just got their churro and gajeta (caramel) sauce on the side. It is very crispy and not as soft and chewy as I preferred. I also got their fruity loop funnel cake. It had whipped cream and ice cream on top. It’s smaller than the ones sold at carnivals though.

Google
First of all, I am convinced everything that comes in a pink box is delicious. Super cute girly pink vibe, fun music, great photo op areas. I ordered the Iced Abuelita Chocolate Milk, I’m now addicted, I’ll be back. I paired it with Churros and Nutella dip, super delicious. The churros were fresh and hot, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I also ordered the Campfire churros to go. I asked for no whipped cream and sauce on the side, and they were happy to accommodate my request. Definitely give it a try.

Google
First off, cutest bakery I’ve ever been in. My daughter loveddd it. We got 3 different options to try. Date night, campfire, & xtra berry funnel cake. All were amazing but that date night was superior. So so good. Fresh made when we ordered and very impressed!

Yelp
Showed up at 7:11pm on a Saturday and they were completely closed. Looks like the closed hours ago by the fedex "missed delivery" note on their door. Their hours are posted with no changes- should be open until 10pm. Huge bummer considering we drove about half hour to get some churros and ice cream...

Yelp
This is a fun lil low-key place that's high-key cute. Crispy, crunchy churros with fun flavors. Servers are open to customizing orders, too! The only complaint I had is that my drink was way too sweet. I got the pumpkin spice horchata and only drank about 1/4 of it before I had to give it to my companion, who found it acceptable. Other than that, our experience was great. Service was fast and friendly, everything was both cute and tasty, and if your only complaint about a dessert shop is that it was sweet, I'd say it was a job well done.

Yelp
Been looking forward to trying this spot since it opened and it was worth the hype. I am obsessed with churros and these are some of the best I've ever had in Austin. They're perfectly crunchy and not overly sweet. We tried the Oreo funnel cake. Not much Oreo flavor outside of the 2 Oreos it comes with. The funnel cake itself was very tasty, however the toppings made it pretty soggy versus more of a crisp that we would have preferred. Outside of the churros, the horchata stole the show. It was San Antonio status on flavor. Also the strawberries they put in it don't change the traditional flavor, & they're so tasty to eat! Only negative was it took a while to get greeted, workers were somewhere in the back (it wasn't busy). Very friendly when I asked questions to make up for that. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
So worth it. If you have a sweet craving this place may satisfy you. Funnel cake made to order. So big, I couldn't finish it.

Yelp
We experienced a 'what in the world' moment as soon as we stepped inside. Did we somehow get transported to the Grand Budapest Hotel or Barbie's paler Dreamhouse? Holy Pink, Batman! So. Much. Pink. What an adorable churro shop. The OG churros were decent. They made them fresh to order. Would visit again, especially as a fun surprise stop for new friends and/or family.

Yelp
Imagine Paris Hilton, Pepto Bismol, and a little (girlie) girl designed a bakery, and then you have a pretty good idea what to expect when you open the doors to this shop. I love pink and sparkles...in moderation- this was just lacking balance IMHO. Maybe a soft white ceiling and grey on the back wall instead of blue. Atmosphere is important; I felt like I was swimming in Pepto Bismol. I met a friend who works nearby and she wanted to try this place out. We had churros and coffees. Everything was served in and on disposable paper despite cute cups and saucers on display. Given the atmosphere, it would have been nice to feel like you were at a tea party and using a cute tea set. I am not a sweet tooth person, but the churro was delicious. It was hot and fresh without excessive sugar and cinnamon. We had Nutella and goat's milk caramel for dipping. I preferred the caramel as it was not too sweet. My friend had an iced coffee and I opted for straight espresso. My espresso was very good- smooth and a drinkable temperature. The counter service person (may have been the owner) was pleasant without hovering. Give it a try if you're in the area, and let me know what you think.

Yelp
My friend was raving about this place and i love churros so we went. The Texas Comfort combo was delicious. It had apples and caramel with whipped cream and we added a side of vanilla ice cream. I devoured my half pretty quickly. The churro was fried and soft on the inside with the perfect amount of sugar. They have a pink theme going on, similar to Taquero Mucho, next door. We actually mistakenly stepped into Taquero and then had to go one door down. Also the music was my favorite 1990-2010 pop LOL. It was nice to get out of the heat and having this dessert place up north.

Yelp
This place is superb! Mexico quality churros! Absolutely amazing. Crunchy and most flavorful. Why do I say MX? Churros from Spain are quite different, so I want to make sure you can experience the difference. The funnel cake was delightful. Crunch outside and fluff on the inside. Topped with vanilla ice cream!!! Yumm The staff was pleasant and made some great recommendations. Thanks! Totally cool hangout place, music was blah... they could definitely change that bachatta junk out... but thats my personal preference. :) Try em out. Youll love the sugar high.

Yelp
Such a cute spot in the strip mall next to Rosen's and Taquero Mucho. The desserts go crazy and they have some coffee/cold brew/ latte options. Plenty of seating and good service. Free wifi too, so every so often I post up and work here.

Yelp
I was looking for a dessert place after dinner and found this churro place that had just opened. They have freshly made churros with different types of toppings if you want them. We got the s'mores churro and it was really tasty with roasted marshmallows and nice crispy churros with a soft filling inside. They have a few other Mexican desserts as well such as pastries and it's definitely worth checking out if you're in the area! There's a small seating area inside and it typically takes about 10 minutes for them to make your fresh churro.
google avatar

Nicki C.

Yelp
Although this place is great looking on the inside, the treats and drinks fell flat in quality and quantity. Service was also questionable as the person at the front counter was more concerned with being on their phone than helping us. We ordered the horchata which was small, full of ice and tasted like watered down milk with barely any spices that makes horchata, well horchata. The churro was dry, hard, and had no flavor other than the sauce we dipped it in. All in all, I found that the place was a great spot for a photography op, but not much else. Unfortunately, I do not recommend given our less than satisfactory experience.
google avatar

Yelp
Cute place! I like the decor and the pink everywhere. I got the traditional churros, which come as a pair. If you are a fan of fried food, this is for you!
google avatar

Quyen B.

Yelp
What can I say? I love funnel cakes and now I can get them without having to go to a carnival or festival. Stumbled upon this place randomly, didn't know it was next to the pink place. Don't let the pink get to you, this is just your guilty pleasure place if you're craving good old churro and funnel cakes. Yes, it is a very instagrammable place if you're into that.

Yelp
I love churros and these churros did not disappoint! We truly enjoyed the service as well. The space is absolutely gorgeous and IG photo worthy!
google avatar

Yelp
Just a okay but a fun stop. A small location, the decor is beyond precious! I met some friends for coffee. The conchas were large and gorgeous. The service can be slow if only one person is working on a weekend so don't come if you're rushing. Bummer: there is no changing table in their restroom.

Yelp
Oh.My.Goodness. These! Can I live here? These churros are out of this world. What are you waiting for. Get here and bring people you like.

Yelp
The churros are amazing! The employees are friendly and provide great recommendations. The indoor ambiance is beautiful.

Yelp
Ever since having a churro in San Antonio, I've been searching for one in Austin that's just as good. I think I finally found it at Churro Co! I ordered the Maracuya (matcha with passion fruit syrup and milk) and a Traditional Churro with a side of Salted Caramel. The matcha was very sweet with a weak matcha and fruity flavor, I probably wouldn't order it again. The churro was amazing though! It was perfectly crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy in the middle, and perfectly coated in cinnamon sugar. It really tasted like it was made fresh, nothing like the stale churros I've had at other places in Austin. The aesthetics of this place are super cute as well! It's a sister restaurant of Taquero Mucho (right next door). I highly recommend trying out this place!
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
Went here with a friend to try. It opened recently and can be a little hard to spot since they don't have a sign out front but it is right next to taquero mucho! The inside was so cute and well curated which is something I always enjoy about the Gabriella sister restaurants. There is a parking lot out front and lots of cute cafe style tables inside as well as some counter space. The staff was very friendly, you order at the register and then they call your name once it is ready. I got the campfire s'mores which came with 2 churros, a scoop of icecream, toasted marshmallow and chocolate sauce and a fruity pebbles matcha. The match was lightly sweet but nothing to write home about. I really enjoyed the churros just wished they came a bit bigger. Nice crunch and flavor combo!
google avatar

Donna L.

Yelp
Let's just say that it's not the same as the original Churro truck. Cute little brick and mortar store but the quality is not the same. I was excited to visit because i needed to satisfy my craving and it had been so long since I'd had the Churro Co. I ordered the original plain churros without any toppings. Unfortunately, after a lengthy wait, my churros were overcooked. Talk about disappointing! Hopefully that was just a fluke or an off day.
google avatar

Julia C.

Yelp
We had to wait about 15 min to get helped. No one was at the front and we rang the bell about 5 times. It also took awhile to be made. I think one person was working the front and the back.very sweet
google avatar

Isa K.

Yelp
Tried them for the first time while in the area. I almost missed it since I did t see a sign outside. Came in and ordered my churros. They were nice and warm. Loved that they were not excessively sweet. The horchata was probably the best horchata I've had. The strawberries were a nice touch to the drink. Next time I'm in the area I will definitely stop by.
google avatar

Linda E.

Yelp
I love this concept & the execution of every cute detail. This is my ig moment come to life! Whats even better is that the options were absolutely tasty. It's hard to get an authentic Mexican churro right but this place has perfected it. The churro is the perfect texture & doughy as it should be. I was also surprised by how the pan dulce was not only photo worthy but also tasty.
google avatar

Susanna O.

Yelp
I love coming here! My husband loves funnel cakes, and any time we're in the area no matter what for we gotta stop by. Very nice place for a pit stop sweet snack and I will say the funnel cakes are very tasty. Definitely recommend to anyone. Also very pretty place for photos. And service is always great!
google avatar

Chelsea H.

Yelp
I tried the strawberry funnel cake and the horchata from here and it was so amazingThe service was fast and the worker was really kind and welcoming. I definitely recommend coming here at least once!

Yelp
! Pink ! ! Pink ! !!! pinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpink !!!!!! !!! PINK !!! * * * The Churro Company has very distinctive interior decorating. Guess what the dominant color is in the color scheme. Many many many items in the bakery are that color. One of those items was my drink. I would kill for their wallpaper. This was white wallpaper with all sorts of gag figures. The gag figures are in p_ _ _. The wallpaper says (literally) Dame Mas Cafeina. It has pictures of cups of coffee. It refers to Revival, another coffee shop owned by management. That wallpaper will restore your faith in coffee. The wallpaper will also restore your faith in the color p _ _ _. * * * The churros are outstanding. They sell all sorts of fancy toppings for your churros. You really don't need them. The churros are magnificent all by themselves. However licking up traces of chocolate syrup and whipped cream from your plate afterwards is not an unpleasant use of time. * * * I had an elaborate matcha latte - that was in essence strawberry milk with whipped cream and matcha. You can get strawberry milk at any supermarket in Austin. But nobody does - unless they have a whiny or convincing kid. That kid is on to something. You loved strawberry milk when you yourself were a kid. It is just as good today. It is fine with matcha in it. It is fine by itself. Drink more strawberry milk. * * * By the way, Strawberry milk is p _ _ _. * * * Key point: The menu only covers a fraction of what they have. On the counter is a wide variety of traditional Mexican baked goods. There are also various treats in a cup. The churros are well well worth it ... and the menu mostly covers the churros. But those other items are not without their pleasures. Obviously, if you want the big deal full time Mexican bakery, You go to Casa Maria's on South First on the Southside of Austin. But the offerings at Churros are not bad. * * * So go get yourself some first rate churros at Churros and Company. pinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpinkpink and pink. And just for the record. Pink.

Yelp
Menu Item: Date Night Looking for new dessert spots on our travels is always fun. Behold my surprise to learn that there was a Churro spot that we had not seen yet. When we walked in on Saturday they were in the middle of getting ready for a Painting Event. We were alone to order and sat down at the few spots that weren't set up for the event. If we had come on a non-event night there would have been more than enough room to sit comfortably. The Churro we had was called the Date Night. Sprinkled with something called Popcorn Sugar, salted caramel and Served with Vanilla Ice Cream. The salted Caramel drizzle was more liquify than we would have imagined but it blended perfectly with the popcorn sugar topping. The Churro was nice and warm and flavorful. We started to regret only getting one to share. I think we will definitely be back in the future and can't wait to try other items.

Crystal M.

Yelp
Closed. My sister came from out town to try this place but it looks like from the notice outside the windows, behind on rent should of marked business as closed so we didn't have come all this way.

Micah T.

Yelp
Super nice owner, drinks are homemade and natural so not suppper sweet, and the churros are authentic af. I don't even like fruit pies but this place has captured my childhood AND wallet Also the inside is crazy adorable great for pictures or a kiddos party stop (think Ariana Grande)
google avatar

Yelp
The service received was excellent! These churros boasted a golden, crispy exterior, revealing a flawlessly soft and warm inside. Yuuummmm!!! Definitely need to try!

Yelp
Churro Co Bakery is such a sweet little spot right next to Taquero mucho near the domain. I believe they also have a food truck near oltorf but we decided to go to the one to dine in. When we arrived we were greeted by a very sweet lady who worked at the front as a cashier and she was very patient with us while we decided what we would be ordering. Once we decided we all got the horchata, Churro with chocolate and caramel sauce and a funnel cake. The churros are incredibly delicious they MELT right into your mouth. I do not have a huge sweet tooth but man this place hit the spot! Its also a super instagramable spot, super pretty lights and layout. Would be such a cute place to stop at with a couple of friends to enjoy some dessert. Highly recommend. The only issue we had was finding the area, but aside from that it was great environment, ambiance and service!
google avatar

Nin C.

Yelp
The place itself is gorgeous! I love the pink feminine details. I love the fact that this is a Latina business also. The neons are adorable and so is the merchandise. I really wanted to love the churros as much as churro co. (The previous owners). The churros were tinier. The sugar/cinnamon ratio did not seem the same either. The funnel cake is adorable because it's pink and it's really tasty, but a little pricy for how small the funnel cake is. I understand businesses are having to minimize food amounts to accommodate for inflation, but also if I go out to eat dessert, I expect to get my money's worth.
google avatar

Zoey N.

Yelp
The funnel cake was pretty good it definitely was smaller than what I was expecting and personallyyyy I would have liked more strawberries the chai was not good it tasted watered down even though she had just made it and then the customer service was not it the girl who takes the orders had an attitude and made us felt rushed whenever we were looking at the menu even though we weren't in the way and the girls who were making videos were giving us side eyes as if we were an inconvenience it's pretty obvious the people who were actually working are overworked/under staff which sucks because it's a cute set up
google avatar

Taylor C.

Yelp
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! The staff was super friendly and amazing to interact with. Churros were 1000% fresh- took about 5 minutes to get them and it was worth every bite. Date Night Churro was super yummy and crème donut was perfect- not too sweet. Everything was cute and pink- super great atmosphere!

Eric Y.

Yelp
Went in for a quick sweet after a long day. Sat at the bar and the tender was wonderful. Once she cleared up there are 2 restaurants but can serve both all was good. Ordered the Oreo funnel cake for ~$12. Not long after was served a cold, stale funnel cake with a miserly scoop of ice cream that had run off. Dish was not composed at all. There was evidence that there had been some whipped cream but it had melted and slid off the cake. No chocolate syrup as the menu stated. It looked like something from the bus tub. If you prioritize pink and social media appeal over flavor, freshness, value and taste enjoy yourself. Otherwise there's no reason to come here.
google avatar

Jessica R.

Yelp
Such a cute girly place with the cutest neon signs and the best cookies! The staff was cool as always and prepared our order quickly! I liked the funnel cake better than the churro.
google avatar

Henry C.

Yelp
The churros were amazing topped with vanilla ice cream. I don't know what it is about that ice cream, but it's one of the best vanilla ice cream I've tasted. The churros were made fresh and we're still warm and not dry. The horchata was on point as well. Will definitely be back.

Noemi B.

Yelp
Churros were so delicious and customer service was amazing! Will definitely be back! My new favorite spot in Austin
google avatar

Yelp
Another great hit by Gabby! Don't know if the concha bread is supposed to be this hard. But the churros were great!
google avatar

Rebecca J.

Yelp
Cute little shop with pink everything (like its neighbor Taquero Mucho) and Instagram-ready decor. We tried the traditional churro, the Texas Comfort churro, and the Oreo funnel cake. The churros were excellent, crispy and well sugared, though perhaps slightly smaller than I was expecting. The apple pie topping on the Texas Comfort seemed to be freshly made, and was slightly tart to offset the sweetness of the churros and caramel sauce. The salted caramel sauce is delicious, perfectly salty. The funnel cake was slightly soggy from the chocolate ice cream and whipped cream on top, and the only Oreo aspect of it was the two Oreo cookies on top, one of which was actually the HEB-brand Oreo knockoff. So the Oreo name was misleading. I would've preferred cookies n cream ice cream on top. Our order was ready within 10 minutes, and the service was fine. We had to ring a bell to get the cashier to come to the front, which makes me think the staff are pulling double duty in the kitchen and the front of the store, understandable as this is a fairly new restaurant.

Alyssa W.

Yelp
Love the pink & purple aesthetic! There was only one worker when we came, but she made our food quickly and was kind. The food was beautiful and tasty. Our favs were the Horchata, strawberry shake, and campfire churros.

Gabriela C.

Yelp
Everything was delicious and the place is gorgeous BUT service was TERRIBLE. Orders were messed up, it took at least half an hour to get our shakes and the lady that was taking orders had an attitude. When I asked for recommendations, it's as if I was asking for a cure for cancer. My daughter wanted a chocolate shake with chocolate sprinkles and the way she told me that there were no chocolate sprinkles but pink instead was as if she was bothered that I was making her job more complicated by asking for the pink sprinkles. No one was friendly and the content girls looked annoyed that we walked in while they were probably trying to post for social media. And the best part? When I posted my review to their IG account, it was immediately deleted.

Maria R.

Yelp
Service was kind and welcoming. Churro was awful though - we got the date night churro...so salty we could not eat it.

Baggy N.

Yelp
We shared a funnel cake. Tasted pretty good. Nice atmosphere and staff was fast. Main issue is they need a good sign as tough to find. Also, while I understand the pink thing is sort of a motto for the owner I think it has played out and would be nice to see something different. Would be great if somehow connected to Taquero Mucho

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Horrible service. Got a Horchata and chocoflan which I would not recommend either of them. Horchata was very grainy and didn't taste fresh. The chocoflan looked like it had been sitting there all week and tasted like it also.

Drea K.

Yelp
Milk shake was good, funnel cake was good, pink set up was cute, service wasn't the best. Both girls (employees) seemed very bothered and annoyed. Orders weren't coming out in the correct order and milk shakes took way too long to be made. Will not be returning
