Chuy's Tacos Dorados

You know, the first time I came to this place over an year ago, I enjoyed my visit. I wanted some tacos after the Dodgers game and made the drive out to Van Nuys. Sad to say, the place is not the same. The patio area is closed. The potato tacos are still good, but I received no utensils and they don't have Jamaica or any other aguas frescas anymore. And then, to go to the downtown LA location is just impossible as you can never find parking!

Had tacos de papa (potato) and carne deshebrada (shredded beef), they were very good. Crunchy fresh loaded tacos with some salsa hit the spot. I ordered the two taco combo with rice and beans. The rice and beans were also good, but a bit too much salt for my taste that I couldn't finish them. They also only had bottled drinks vs aguas frescas that would compliment the tacos.

The potato taco is the truttttttth! Skip the soyrizo burrito and go straight for the potatoes tacos. So delicious. Update: It's the pickled onions , spicy salsa combo that's sets it off. My recommendation: ask for your potatoes extra crispy and light cheese.

The Idol tacos 🌮 are right on point!!! Truly taste homemade. Bean chorizo are the bomb! Thank you Ricardo for awesome service. They have drive-thru 🚗

This is our go to spot in LA. We will drive just for the food. The a absolute best! Potato tacos, beef!!!!!! The warm hot sauce!!!! As a matter of fact we’re in the way to van nuys location now from Bakersfield ❤️

I came to try this place because of an IG video. They responded to my comment and assured me they don't fry in lard. Perfect! Kids loved it, and so did my wife and me. The seating area outside is intimate and pretty relaxing. We got all the tacos on the menu. Next time we'll venture into the other items they offer. Great food, guys. Thank you!

Once upon a time... Somebody who was a 'Somebody' told me straight out... If a "Mexican Spot" serves its food with Yellow cheese... It Ain't Legit Mexican. Now, I am not here to hate... I am definitely not here to discourage... And... I sure as hell am not here to bash on yellow cheese... But just so YOU know... Chuy's Tacos Dorados serves up some mean, crunchy, fried-goodness tacos with a gang of you guessed it... SHREDDED YELLOW CHEESE!!! So I did a little research and low and behold, Look what I found: -Oaxaca aka Quesillo -Manchego -Cojita -Queso Blanco -Añejo -Queso Chihuahua -Queso Panela -Queso Fresco -Asadero And for a free bag of Monterey Jack Shredded Cheese from Costco (Monterey Jack is not actually "Mexican" cheese BTW)... Any guesses on what color the 9 Mexican Cheeses are above? If you said White... You are the Winner! So where am I going with this... I mean sure, Taco Bell and Del Taco also use Shredded Yellow cheese...but that's because, well they are Americanized-Mexican fast food joints... But here is the plot twist. The part where after just a little more research... My doubt turned into straight up... R-E-S-P-E-C-T for this mom n' pop taco shop. I found out straight from the source that the reason Chuy's Taco's Dorados uses Yellow Cheddar cheese by the truck load (which I personally appreciate on my taco) is because "you can't get good Mexican cheese here" -Leon, Chuy's Taco's Dorados So because of this... They opted for sharp cheddar cheese based solely on recommendations from an Aunt. And due to not having access to good quality Mexican cheese and Angeleno's obsession with cheddar, Chuy's Tacos Dorados did what a small business does best and simply adapted making a name for themselves in the lucrative taco scene within the city of Los Angeles. From their famous Papa (Potato) & Carne Deshebrada (shredded beef) to their Carne Molida (marinated ground beef and potato) fillings; you can go absolutely wild with their tacos, burritos & quesadillas and live everyday like it's Taco Tuesday! Definitely recommend getting in on their chorizo-beans, Mexican rice and without fail... A Mexican Coke! So... Grab a green salsa, grab a red salsa, & open up extra wide because this place does not skimp on the beautifully shredded, sharp, YELLOW Cheddar Cheese!!! And I don't know about you... But all of a sudden, I'm having a bizarre craving for some Tacos Dorados!!! =) See you there!!!

Great option for a quick meal at Westfield Topanga! We ordered the Potato, Shredded Beef, Ground Beef with Potato tacos. The tacos were ready quickly, and service was friendly. I liked all three tacos, but the Ground Beef with Potato taco was the standout for me. It has a bit of kick for those who like spicy food. Overall, Chuy's Tacos Dorados offers great Mexican food at reasonable prices and I would absolutely come back to try some of the other items on the menu.

We freakin' love Chuy's!!!!! One of the best hard shell crunch tacos!!! Today we ordered shredded beef tacos, ground beef tacos, and a ground beef burrito to split. Indya was really sweet. She's helped us before and is always nice! I always get extra salsa to take home because it is SO delicious! It freezes well so I can use it in other dishes I make at home. So worth it to get extra. The tacos are great! I've tried all of them. Potato tacos are the best I've had. The cheese and onions are so good...a perfect compliment to the tacos! Everything here is really good...chips and salsa and quesadilla's are also yummy! All crave-able! ;-p

Been waiting for this location to open so I don't need to drive to the Van Nuys one. It's located in the Village across 24 hour fitness. It's a cute stand so only outside seating. There's metered parking on Topanga or park in the garage and just a short walk. They don't have an extensive menu but you don't really need a lot of items to choose from. Go for the shredded beef tacos which are deep dried hard shelled topped with lettuce, lots of shredded cheese and onions. Add the green sauce and it's soooo good.

I love the shredded beef and the grounded beef w potato tacos here with their spicy (green) salsa. The pickled onion is great, however I cannot really taste the cheese inside. I've tried their burrito too but not my cup of tea tho.

I didn't eat the food until I brought it back home but it was perfectly fine. There was still plenty of crunch in the shells and it didn't fall apart while consuming them. The pickled onion really adds a nice contrast to the fat you get from the meat + cheese. It's really wonderful living in this area where you can get all kinds of versions of tacos/burritos and this place is certainly distinct enough to satisfy your craving for something different. Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot going on for those that don't eat beef and don't care for soyrizo. For everyone else, it's at least worth one try.

Soooo nobody was gonna tell me one of my favorite spots opened a new location?! I'm sad to see the Van Nuys one go, because it's such a staple, but I can't complain about Chuy's being even closer to me. I've been to their other location multiple times and was super excited to try the new one, and I'm so happy the quality and taste is just as good. If you're looking for crunchy tacos, this place is it. The shells are perfectly fried, the filling is nice and soft, and the lettuce, cheese, and pickled onions are the perfect accent to the whole thing. I looooove their rice, too. I'm happy to see another good place open up in the west valley, because im used to having to drive East for all my favorite places. This is a great addition to Woodland Hills and the Topanga Mall!

Best Crunchy Tacos Ever !!! Full of flavors and the cheese is just the best. Impossible to find anything that comes close. I wish you guys had one in Ventura.

Decent tacos, nothing crazy. good got the job done. I wouldn't go out of my way or make a special trip to eat here again but if I was already in the area I might grab food here again.

This is actually the second review I am writing. 1st review was posted. 2nd review- We did a large catering order for an office baby shower. The tacos were AMAZING, beans and rice- AMAZING. Customer Service from start to finish- Betsy I can not thank you enough for making it happen!!! SUPPORT LOCAL AND SMALL!!!!! This taco spot does not disappoint!!!!

One the best fried crispy tacos I've ever had. I usually order the beef and potato. Service is fast and easy at this place located in Woodland Hills. Go get you some. ENJOY!

I seen this place all over instagram, so i wanted to check it out while visiting. Ordered 4 tacos 2 with shredded beef and 2 with ground. Skip the ground beef which is the carne Molida and stick to the shredded beef. I didn't care for the carne Molida tacos or burrito and it was very spicy! The service was just eh and they don't have many drink options. We went to the Costco near by to get a drink since tacos dorados only had coke, water and jarritos. No diet drink options!

Definitely way better than Tito's. The meat and potato taco was very tasty. The shredded beef was good, but not the greatest. They do load the taco with shredded lettuce. I did wish there was more filling than lettuce. Definitely does not taste like Taco Bell. Although I still do like the tacos from Jack in the Box. Definitely will be a go to if I'm craving a crunchy taco. Great thing about this location is there's plenty of parking and it comes with 90 minutes free.

While it's a bit further to drive, and I now have to pay to park, the food is still excellent and hits the spot in a unique way. I will patronize this small shop to support a small business with super flavorful food.

I don't write a lot of reviews. And when I do, they're usually only the negative ones where I've had a bad experience or the food is sub-par. I could even be accused (very rightly) of gatekeeping my favorites so they don't get "discovered" and overrun by others who will recognize the same delicious food I have. But in this instance, I have to get it out there. The food at Chuy's is freaking amazing. My entire family thinks it's some of the best Mexican food we've ever eaten and has made it's way into our regular rotation of places we go. A caveat -- this type of Mexican food is not like what you will find from a taco truck or from a street vendor. It's more akin to what brings lines of people to places like Tito's. And, by the way, that is not a slight in the least. Something delicious is making those folks queue up for half an hour! The food is just as sublime here, too. The beef tacos with the crispy shells and abundant cheese go down so easy, I could probably eat three or four in a sitting. The burrito with chorizo beans and cheese is a simple yet complex masterpiece. Even the chips and salsa are the freshest I've tasted in a good long while. The location is a kiosk inside the Westfield Village, down by the 24 hour fitness. So, don't expect much ambiance. There are barely even seats to sit in. But it will not be a disappointment at all. Highly recommend.

Too much cheese on the tacos. Pickled onions are delicious, and the crunch is satisfying. Lady was crabby so that was a turnoff but would come back for the potato tacos. My daughter inhaled the beef quesadilla too!

The tacos are to die for. Maybe you won't die but you definitely won't be talking while you're eating this because your taste buds will be in a different world while you're enjoying this. This message is true an accurate only to help the owner improve service. The service can use a little boost. I wish there was a place for us to sit and eat instead of standing up. Awesome freshly fried hard shell tacos (which are extremely hard to find) with lots of cheese, cheap, quick, friendly. What more can you ask for?

So amazing / addicting! I work in the village and I can't help but eat here like 3x a week! My favorite is the shredded beef taco and the idol beef. The beans on the side are bomb too! Ugh soooooo gooooood !!!

Tacos were not good, beef was over salted. Was disappointed. Also the salsa needs improvement.

Yes yes yes!! So happy to have a good taco place so close to home. The shredded beef tacos are amazing! The ground beef tacos were good but I would ask for no potato next time, way too much potato and only a droplet of beef, which is why I took one star off. Salsas are good and the beans are delicious. Definitely ordering from here again.

I heard about this place based on an Instagram review of the DTLA location and they raved about it. I was so jazzed to hear they now had one in Woodland Hills @the village. They did not disappoint. I had the regular shredded beef tacos and a potato taco. Potato was a little plain but still worth having. I will be back for the burrito soon!

I wanted to love this more than I did. The shredded beef taco was good, the potato chorizo taco was only okay. I loved the lime-marinated onions on the tacos. I liked the rice but the beans were only okay. It was okay but not great like I had hoped.

Pretty straight forward, ordered their taco combo, one shredded beef and one potato/beef. I like the potato and beef more, beef was a lil dry for my taste. Otherwise I really like the portions, comes with drink/flavorful beans and rice, which I like to mix in w the left over toppings. Crunchy shell, overloaded with toppings. Will be back

Really loved their Tacos de papa and the side of rice. I love the pairing of the pickled onions + green sauce on the hard shell tacos too. I visited this place twice in two days because I could not get enough. This has been added to my list of good eats here in the valley. The staff is always so friendly and helpful.

Honestly I love the food. But pissed you guys moved out of Van Nuys. Not going to drive 30 minutes to this new location.

Amazing crunchy tacos. The salsa is delicious and great to dip your tacos into. The staff is so nice and friendly. Love coming here. Wish there were heaters for cold nights but honestly that doesn't stop us from coming.

So excited this place opened up in the village. I've had it twice since they opened and I can't wait to go back. It's nice to have a different type of taco shop nearby. The shredded beef the the chipotle potatoes are my favorite. The chips and salsa are fire too. The pile of cheese on the tacos is what dream are made of

I tried the tacos here for the first time, chorizo and potato and also beef, they're just ok, I don't understand the hype, I guess being Mexican I've had way better at other places, I just wanted to try them here being really close to where I live. The best thing here was the ice cold Mexican coke, yum!

Legitimately the best hard shell beef tacos I have ever had! The beef and potato taco made my dreams come true! Their rice and beans are so flavorful. I was blown away!!! Run don't walk to try these insanely delicious tacos. You will not be disappointed!

This place is a gem in the village! Quality tasty food with proper potions & always hits the spot. The shredded beef tacos & molida tacos with pickled onions, shredded cheese piled on top & that crunch is a taste of paradise! Food is always consistent & always satisfies my belly!!!! surprisingly super good! food is seasoned well and the salsas are actually salsas not just tomato juice. I had the chorizo carne molido burrito and would definitely try again! the beans taste super authentic. cashier was super nice and helpful!

The beef taco was good but, the taco shell is a bit too thin so it completely broke apart. The carne molida quesadillas should be served on either a plate or in a box, not stacked up on top of each other. Frankly, it was completely flavorless, even the cheese had no flavor. My husband liked his burrito. I'd come back for the tacos

The tacos were great 10/10. I don't really like onions but the onions on the tacos are bomb! The green salsa is my favorite, I would highly recommend this place and I will definitely come back. The cashier Ana was very nice and greeted me with a nice smile. She's very friendly. Overall my experience was awesome!

Was a fan of this place and was happy when this location opened up but the service at this location is horrible. The times I have done pick up the food has been cold and not all there. Ive let it slide in the past but today is the last time. I ordered 6 tacos and a drink (jarritos). 2 tacos were missing the meat and only had potato. I ordered 5 beef tacos and only got 3 with meat. My drink was also missing and when I called to speak to someone no one answered the phone. I don't know if the employees don't care or just wanted to go home. In times that inflation is high not getting what you pay for sucks. Chuys you need to do better and thanks for taking my hard earned cash.

THANK GOD! I am so happy a place like this like this has opened up in this neighborhood. Everything is full of flavor from the rice to the chips and salsa. I have tried this place two times already, and it is super consistent. I will/have recommended this place to everyone!

This place serves up incredible tacos dorados. Shredded beef is the best. The quesadilla is also super flavorful and unique. Closest comparison would be Tito's but these are much better in my opinion.

In So Cal, it's hard to find a simple hard shell taco. I've had Tito's, I've been to El Huero- and many more. This place I happened to stumble upon and man, it blew my mind. A very simple- flavorful taco. The shell wasn't greasy, the amount of cheese in each taco was great. I tried the shredded beef, potato and the ground beef, all were great. If your hungry, you'll need more than three- the tacos aren't tiny but they won't fill you up. The two salsas they have were real good- not spicy and as an added bonus did not contain any cilantro (wife has an allergy). A couple of negatives- no real dedicated place to sit and eat if you don't want to sit at the counter, a lot of small table scattered around but this place gets busy. Also, the only reason this place did not get a full 5 of 5.... It lacks an acidic side to compliment the taco- like some guac or maybe even some sour cream. But then again that's what made this taco great, it's simple.

This is a great spot. It's one of the better Mexican spots in Woodland Hills. Shredded beef burrito is bomb! The hard shell tacos are made fresh. Just wish they had beer!

I haven't had tacos that hit like this in a minute! Perfectly crispy and juicy without falling apart in your hand the salsa is gas too and the staff is super friendly. 10/10 recommend nd tell a friend

This place is the bomb! The food is amazing, anyone who says otherwise must be sick in the head! Not only the food is amazing but the service is outstanding. Everyone is so friendly & super attentive. I'd definitely recommend this place to other.

Awesome food this is my second time I came here I'm always greeted with a warm smile from Anna and the two cooks in the back that are always so friendly and make the best food. I'm so happy the Village now has a good casual quick option. The prices are great.and the food is amazing.
