Union Square area, walking distance to many spots: location, location, location! Had couple of drinks and dishes at the bar area which is my personal favorite. Friendly bartenders were quick with our drink orders. Food ordering was easygoing with great service and suggestions. Steak presentation is fun and top notch, must try. Music in the background but not overpowering. Restroom decor is sexy and clean. Planning couple of upcoming birthday celebrations here at Ciao!

For me personally the Japanese-Italian combo didn’t really work but I’m a lover of authentic Italian food. My fellow diners seemed to like it quite a lot. The service wasn’t great (food came out after it had been sitting awhile) but I think word is getting out about the cool concept so it was very busy and they just need to tweak a few things.

I was visiting friends in the Bay Area and we decided to try Ciaorigato. The concept sounded really interesting and delicious and we wanted to see what the hype is all about. We were not disappointed, the fusion of Italian and Japanese was amazing! I wish there was such a restaurant where I live. Definitely recommended for a fresh, new take on some classic staples from Italian and Japanese cuisine. The decor is very tasty and elegant, perfect for a first date.

Beautiful space with amazing attention to detail. If you love stylish interiors with a cool 60s vibe, this place is a gem. The drinks are creative and delicious, and the pizza (plus the rest of the menu) is full of flavor. A great spot for design lovers and foodies alike!

Checked out Ciaorigato with friends visiting near Union Square, and it fully lived up to the hype. The Japanese-Italian fusion did not disappoint - both creative and delicious. Cocktails were just as impressive. The space is stylish and welcoming. Service was excellent—friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. A standout spot in SF near Union Square can’t wait to go back!

I went to my friend’s soft opening at Ciaorigato, an Italian-Japanese fusion restaurant in the heart of Union Square, SF — and wow, it was incredible! The blend of the two cuisines was unique and exciting. The squid ink pizza was so flavorful, and the hamachi crudo was absolutely stunning. Every dish was beautifully presented. The decor is gorgeous, mixing modern design with a cozy, welcoming vibe. The atmosphere was lively yet intimate — you can already tell it’s going to be a standout spot. So proud and excited for what’s to come! 🍕🍣✨

Such a great spot, the food is so incredible. Amazing flavors and presentation! The pastas are delicious and they even took my special request for a shiso mojito at the bar even though it wasn't on the menu.

Came here as it sounded super interesting for our 5 year anniversary. Food was amazing and super interesting. Favorite dish was the okonomiyaki pizza, and the matcha tiramisu. Hanger steak was also super interesting.

Yelp
Rigo Pastamoto; owner, culinary muse, and head bartender of Ciaorigato; was born during a thunderstorm when a bolt of lightning simultaneously struck an olive tree in Tuscany and a cherry blossom in Kyoto. Raised by his Italian grandmother (a former sumo wrestling coach) and his Japanese grandfather (once personal pasta maker to the Medici family), young Rigo's culinary destiny was written in the stars--and in marinara sauce. His first masterpiece came at age 8 when he accidentally dropped his nonna's prized risotto into a sushi rolling mat. Instead of crying, he wrapped it with nori and created the world's first **FUNGHI & TARTUFO** roll--portobello tempura kissed with truffle cream that made grown men weep tears of umami joy. The local truffle hunters declared him "Il Bambino Miracoloso." By 12, young Rigo had perfected his legendary **FOCACCIAPAN**--a mystical bread that combined his Italian heritage's focaccia with Japan's cloud-like milk bread. The rosemary sang arias while the truffle honey butter performed kabuki theater on your tongue. Food pilgrims traveled from both continents just to witness this carbohydrate miracle. His teenage years were spent mastering the ancient art of **Yakitori e Spiedini**--flame-grilled perfection that bridged two worlds. His **SPIEDINO TOP SIRLOIN** with Angus beef and pancetta became so legendary that wild boars would voluntarily offer themselves for his skewers. The three house sauces he created were rumored to contain the tears of angels and the laughter of dolphins. The turning point came when Rigo invented **CIAORAGATONI**--rigatoni with an 8-hour bolognese so perfect that time itself slowed down to savor each bubble. The shiitake mushrooms would whisper secrets of the forest while the Parmigiano Reggiano crowned each bite like edible royalty. But it was his pizza innovations that got him exiled from both countries. The **NERO DI TOKYO** with its squid ink base caused such a sensation that octopi began forming protest lines, while his **OKONOMIAKE PIE 4 FORMAGGI** was deemed "too delicious for mortal consumption" by the Vatican's Secret Cheese Council. Banished but unbowed, Rigo sailed to San Francisco on a gondola powered by pasta steam, where the fog reminded him of the mist rising from his grandmother's kitchen and his grandfather's ramen shop. Here, he would finally unleash Ciaorigato upon the world--a restaurant where East meets West, and every bite tells the story of a man who dared to dream in two languages of flavor. They say if you listen closely while eating at Ciaorigato, you can still hear Rigo's ancestors cheering "Bravissimo!" and "Oishii!" in perfect harmony.

Yelp
Wanted to try this place. The angels on the ceiling wearing Calvin Klein underwear are kind of weird though. Yuzu Spritz: refreshing, good. Focacciapan: came warm. Was expecting more truffle flavor from the spread. Yakitori di pollo: juicy chicken. Japanese salsa verde? That's chimichurry lol. Something we eat in Uruguay and Argentina. I was glad it didn't had cilantro, here usually make it wrong. Liked it but is not japanese or italian. Tonno & pesto sushi: had a nice crunch from the zucchini and the pesto didn't overwhelmed the tuna. This was my favorite dish. Maremiso Maltagliatti: liked it, a little spicy for me but good taste. Nothing memorable. Seasamisù: This was dissapointing. I was expecting a good tiramisù with black sesame. Couldn't eat it. Was just mascarpone, where are the eggyolks?! The sesame ice cream wasn't good either. A hard NO. What's the thing with the music? Put something japanese or italian. It was too loud and didn't make sense. Then baseball on the TV. I get it, in Japan people like it but didn't match with the ambiance. So.. my final thoughts: The idea is interesting but the execution failed for me. Steep prices for the quality. Not coming back.

Yelp
Ciaorigato says they "bring together the rich traditions of Italy and the refined elegance of Japan". I'd say ehhh, yeah kind of? The inside of the restaurant is quite nice and they had an interesting choice of like, club adjacent music. Anyways, the Focacciapan is $8 bread; it's fine, but why did I pay $8 for a small loaf of bread? We were also brought some Shishito Peppers, on the house, which was nice. Next was the Funghi & Tartufo. To be honest, other than it being in sushi form and shaved Parmigiano and I guess truffle, there wasn't much remotely Italian or Japanese about it. The flavors were fine, but didn't seem too creative. But I'm also neither Italian nor Japanese so what do I know lol. The Maremiso Maltagliati was good. I think miso is a pretty safe and easy ingredient to incorporate into a sauce. The only thing is that this dish congeals kind of quickly. I also liked the pizza, Nero di Tokyo. It was a little too thin and I wish there was a little more sauce, but the crust was soo good. These two dishes were more clear in the intent of Japanese-Italian fusion. Lastly, came the Hanger Steak. The steak was nicely cooked and decently flavorful. I didn't like how sour the potatoes that came with it were. As with the sushi roll, there wasn't much that really identified with Japan or Italy. As with most new restaurants, there are some small things that need to be ironed out, but Ciaorigato has some promise. Also their menu prices in the restaraunt are a little higher than what they posted online... Would like to give this place another try since I had such a good experience at their other restaraunt, Modi.

Yelp
We were duped by "foodies" on Instagram for this one. And I was right to be weary of a restaurant inside of a hotel. I came here with a group of 6 and unfortunately none of us liked the meal or service. After being seated for a while, we had to actually wave down somebody to even get a drink. The only thing we liked was the foccacia milk bread, shishito peppers 5/5 and tempura 4/5. The squid ink pizza, meat pizza, uni pasta, curry pasta were complete misses and didn't even finish any of it after we all tried it. The meatballs on the pizza and pasta resembled IKEA meatballs and did not complement the dishes well at all 1/5. The bolognese rigatoni was slightly better if you want to get a pasta dish 3/5. If you go, maybe stick with the basics like the margarita pizza and the steak, which we saw another table get and looked decent.

Yelp
Definitely influenced but the influencers. Hotel restaurants can be hit or miss in SF but it looked so enticing at the opening so wanted to see if it was worth the hype. The lychee raspberry margarita was fire! Went with the chicken and wagyu yakitori which were good. The chicken much better than the wagyu to my surprise. The Tono pesto roll which added pesto to a tempura roll was def unique. My taste buds have never encountered sushi with pesto so def a surprise for the palette. The uni pasta which looked the most delicious was a bit of a letdown. The uni wasn't fresh and that permeated through the pasta. What a pity. Maybe the uni was previously frozen I don't know but fish creamy pasta wasn't it. Outside of that everything else wasn't bad. Definitely a tourist hot spot!

Yelp
We checked out Ciaorigato in SF and loved the vibe! It's a unique Japanese-Italian fusion spot, and the flavors were definitely something different in the best way. The highlight of the night was hands down our waitress Nivea she gave us the BEST service. Super friendly, attentive, and made great recommendations. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because there were a couple of dishes that didn't wow us as much as others, but overall, still a great experience. Would come back!

Yelp
i applaud the attempt to fusion and while the ideas were fun most of the dishes were awful. yakitori was dry, beef skewer tasted primarily of pork due to the pancetta, funghi & tartufo could have been more interesting had the rice been more of a risotto but it was very plain and could've used raw fish, tempura misto was not bad compared to the other dishes tho some calamari pieces were dry, uni tagliatelle was basically a cheese sauce tagliatelle garnished with 4 tiny pieces of uni. yuzu spritz was pretty good, if i come back it would only be for drinks. service was fine especially for a 4 day old restaurant, lots of staff came to check on us though it was spotty at times since one of them also made drinks at the bar. the restaurant was pretty packed with people when we went.

Yelp
OK, still really good. However, there was no party this time. Looks like the party was for their grand opening and that's it as of now!

Yelp
All around good experience! To start, me and my girlfriends were unfortunately very late to our reservation and missing one of our party of four - they still accommodated happily and did so with a great attitude. The service was quick and friendly, they happily explained a lot of the menu to us as we had questions about a bit of it. I did not have cocktails but two of my girlfriends did and they both loved theirs! The pizza was one of my favorite things that we ordered! The sushi roll, for me at least, was a close second. We also got pasta, a Tokyo Caesar salad, and the Foccasiapan - which actually was all of our favorite. They also started us off with complimentary shishito peppers - which were perfectly cooked and seasoned! The inside of the restaurant itself was very pretty, lots to look at, the lighting was great and the art was obviously thought about and curated well for the vibe of the restaurant.

Yelp

Yelp
Went to the grand opening last night. Things were a bit... chaotic. I stood at the bar for 30 minutes and not one person acknowledged me. I ended up leaving. It would have been really nice for one person to say "I'll be with you shortly", or something along those lines. I didn't taste the food or drinks, but the lack of service speaks volumes. Nothing to write home about.

Yelp
I love the creativity of the food and the space brings a gorgeous Gatsby feel and a great date place Service is excellent and attentive. Definitely a hit in San Francisco by Union Square.

Yelp
Innovative concept! Love the food, very cool ambience, and friendly service! Perfect spot for a date night and large groups, hard to find since it is located inside the Hotel Bijou.

David F.

Yelp
They've only been open for a month, so they are getting their footing. The positives first: The room is very nice, nicely decorated and music not too loud-you could talk without shouting, The waitress was very good: friendly and helpful. The timing of the food wasn't great. There were 5 of us, 4 were served their main course on time, but by the time the 5th was served, the others were more than 50% done with their food. I ordered a sushi roll and chicken yakitori. The yakitori was the good, but they brought the wrong sushi roll, after waiting all that time. The tempura misto was good. The other dishes did not work. 2 people had the Maremiso- not very flavorful and there were clumps of pasta. The Uni tagaliatelle as not any better. I don't know that the fushion is working. They need to work on the menu

Sara H.

Yelp
Such a fun new addition to the SF food scene. Truly a unique fusion of Italian and Japanese flavors. Loved the Italian sushi and yakitori chicken skewers with the 3 dipping sauces. Everyone that works there was so friendly and kind and we loved the spontaneous kitchen tour they gave us. Definitely worth a trip downtown to check out!

Yelp
Ate here last night with the family and it was FANTASTIC! We researched the menu and history and, although it sounds odd, the food was OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD! It is innovative and creative and very refreshingly tasty. The restaurant is beautiful in a tasteful artistic way with a touch of whimsy . The service was very attentive and not intrusive and the vibe is very romantic. The manager came by to say hello and everyone was welcoming and enjoyable to speak with. We FINALLY have an innovative, world class fusion restaurant in San Francisco! We can't wait to return!

Mike M.

Yelp
If you like Italian and Japanese cuisines you'll love the new fusion concept at Ciaorigato. Amazing kitchen creations oeautifully plated and served by helpful wait staff who will happily guide you through the menu. Every dish was an amazing amalgamation of the two cuisines and beautifully plated. You'll love this new spot!

Celine L.

Yelp
Very good food! The people are great and friendly and people have good service! We had a steak and it was good and also it was good. The gelato was good and it was my mom's birthday and then they they did good service for her birthday.

Yelp
Went the 2nd night they were open, the staff was incredibly nice and insisted on showing us the new kitchen and providing menu insight. Food was delicious, standout was the black squid ink pizza ("spooky pizza" per the host). Beautiful interior, definitely a place to show off.
