New location! New update .....it's been along time since I went to Cibo, they are now located on liberty st, in a brand new outfitted location which is nice and spacious, great decor, but not stuffy, just nice enough with a great bar as you enter, booths, tables and a private room that holds 40. I have changed my rating to a 5 purely because this time we had a fantastic experience from the minute we got there til we left, everything was just top notch. Food especially! Our server Daniel was awesome, making sure we were happy and just really pleasant. Also love it when you ask to try a wine, Daniel bought all 3 of us a sample.
We got a nice booth in the back close to the kitchen. You can't really see the kitchen as you can in many restaurants these days , but you can hear it and tell it's there. We got a bottle of wine, the Montepulciano was perfect with food, nice and dry.
We started with the Brussels sprouts , now I've had these at many places, these were exceptional, flash fried, there was bacon, I think or pancetta, onions, balsamic, and little dusting of Parmesan. A great app with amazing flavor. Completely flavorful.
Then we shared the eggplant Parmesan, very different sauce from most places, this was a creamier red sauce, thin cuts of breaded eggplant, again fantastic and very comfort foodesque. If that's a word! Every bit of that was gone with their bread basket, which was also really good. Italian bread and focaccia. Comes out nice and warm. With butter and pesto butter.
We tried one of the many specials they had, the butternut squash gnocchi, in a creamy tomato sauce, but a little different from the one in the eggplant. Wow, complete winner of the night. With sliced mushrooms in the sauce, this was my favorite dish and a hearty plate of housemade gnocchi. Everything about this dish was just amazing. The creamy sauce, the texture of the gnocchi, loved the mushrooms, and a huge plate, that 3 of us shared and struggled to finish. Definitely try this if it's a special.
Celebrating our birthdays they have two of us free desserts. Which was super nice. The obvious choice was the housemade tiramisu, and yes you should always try this in an Italian restaurant. This was just perfect, nicely soaked sponge but not overly alcoholy tasting, nice and creamy with choc chips, this was the perfect end to a stellar dinnner. I love how it stayed together too, a lot of tiramisu I've had I are too creamy and fall apart, this held up. The other dessert we picked also because they make it in house is the strawberry rum cake. You can't really taste the rum, but nicely soaked, with a nice strawberry sauce, nice creamy frosting, it was a nice rich cake,
This time at Cibo, I was completely surprised how good everything was. All the servers and hosts were so nice, which in my opinion is a huge reflection on how they are trained. My hats off to the chefs, I couldn't fault one thing and cannot wait to come back ! Loved the new location too!
