DC's New Restaurant Openings - Washington DC - The Infatuation

"Just in time for summer, Ciel Social Club has opened a second rooftop location, this time at the Marriott Capitol Hill—a win for anyone who lives for day drinking with a view. Expect much of the same menu as the CityCenter original, with blackberry old fashioneds and rosé sangrias alongside plates like truffle burgers, crab cakes, and shrimp scampi." - omnia saed

I had the pleasure of dining at one of DCs most stunning rooftop restaurants, and I can confidently say it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment I stepped out into the terrace, I was captivated by views of the Capitol building and City skyline. Our waitress Jocelyn was absolutely amazing! She was so attentive to our order and was extremely personable.

I celebrated my birthday last night at Ciel in Capitol Hill and it was such a beautiful experience. From the moment you step off the elevator, you're greeted by gorgeous flowers and a really warm atmosphere. Toya, the hostess, was amazing. She was so kind and welcoming, and always around to answer any questions. Honestly just a beautiful presence right when you arrive. Ash, the manager, also stood out, super helpful and even gave us some ideas for photo prompts, which was such a nice touch. The DJ was great and kept the energy up all night. The service was a little slow and there were a few minor mistakes, but the staff was friendly and the food was really good, so it balanced out. Overall, I had such a fun night. Ciel made my birthday feel really special and I’d definitely come back.

While the interior space is somewhat limited, the patio offers a generous area for enjoyment. The view, which overlooks the capital, has charm, though it might not capture it well in photographs. Our food and drinks were enjoyable overall, with the burger and shrimp standing out as favorites among the group. I ordered the Cobb salad and found it could benefit from more dressing for enhanced flavor. The service was a bit slower, likely due to having only two bartenders available during our visit. I went on a Wednesday when they featured live jazz music. In comparison to the MVT location, I have to say I prefer this rooftop setting.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Vibes for Days at This Rooftop Gem! What an incredible daytime experience! This rooftop club brings the perfect energy sun-drenched vibes, great music, and a crowd that knows how to have fun. Huge shoutout to Ron the bartender, who is absolute fire at slinging drinks. Every cocktail was expertly made, fast, and full of personality. And let’s talk about Spider Kelly easily one of the most engaging and welcoming hosts I’ve encountered. H made sure everyone was having a great time and brought the whole place together with her charm and energy. I’ll definitely be coming back more often. If you’re looking for a spot with top-tier service, stellar drinks, and an unforgettable rooftop ambiance — this is it.

We arrived for our reservation, the cushions were wet, (would’ve thought to check these before us arriving) we got moved inside which was fine. The server we got was a bit rude. Not as nice as the girl server we would’ve had outside. Service was super slow from the moment we walked in, we had to wait to be seated, no hostess in sight, drinks and food took forever to come out. Music was super loud. I ordered the short rib risotto and it was the worst short rib I’ve ever tasted. The short rib was super tough and tasted old. I didn’t return it cause the server never really came to ask how our food was. To pay, they didn’t accept cash which was weird. Overall, not a great experience.

Went for Sunday brunch. The ambiance was great, and I really liked that the DJ played good music at a volume that allowed for easy conversation. The food was decent, though nothing stood out, and the cocktail menu was a bit limited. Service could have been more attentive. Overall worth checking out on a nice day for the chill vibe and beautiful view.

The service was good. However, it appears that the staff allows disrespectful behavior from certain customers, especially those who are perceived as "big spenders." I came here for the first time to celebrate a friend's doctoral accomplishment, only to be met with unprovoked disrespect by a man who called himself "Johnny Cash." After I made a harmless comment about his nickname resembling the country singer, he responded with hostility. Insinuating that the money they spend should allow for disrespectful language and being called out of one's name. Security was informed about this incident, as well as complaints by other women from the same man who made additional disrespectful comments. Security stated that because we were not physically harmed, there was nothing they could do despite the unprovoked hostility. If this is the type of environment that the establishment promotes, then I would not recommend this place. It does not help that there were racial power differentials at hand, and as a minority, I do not feel welcomed. I do suggest that security at least correct this behavior by issuing warnings before saying that there is nothing they can do. Feel free to reach out to me for further details

Nice roof; abysmal service and messy atmosphere. Came for celebratory drinks/meal with friends with an outdoor reservation. Do not bother sitting outside if you don't like pot smoke and an obnoxiously loud DJ. This is NOT a place for a relaxing, classy evening with DC city views. And be prepared to wait, and wait, and wait for your drinks and food -- both of which are a tremendous improvement over the bizarre concept that was here before, but still not worth it. For a place with several weeks under its belt, ever single staffer (from host to server to manager) felt clueless and like it was their first day. The Morrow Hotel has an exponentially better rooftop without the hassles just a few blocks away. I hope Marriott fixes Ciel; it has potential but needs some serious overhaul.

Yelp
Ciel sits on the rooftop of the Marriott. Upon entering the lobby, walk straight ahead to the elevators located in the back of the lobby area. Guests are greeted by a host on the right of the elevators. The ambiance is perfect for a date, girls night out, or work meeting. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available. On Wednesdays at 6:30PM and 8:00PM, there is a jazz band playing outside. The Ciel Truffle Burger was pretty tasty, rating at a 7/10 (the patty was a bit thin for my preference). The mango Arnold Palmer is a super-sweet non-alcoholic beverage rating at 6/10 (a bit too much on the sweet side for my preference). The staff was accommodating and attentive. The Ciel Capitol Hill location does not offer happy hour (as of 6/25/25). Overall the ambience takes the cake! Returning for the jazz night and giving the steak Caesar salad a try next. Yelp
Super cute new rooftop restaurant in NoMa and right next to the metro stop. I've never been to the other Ciel that is downtown so I was excited to check out this location that is a lot closer to me. Here's everything that I loved, + The Marriott hotel itself is really beautiful and new + the space is clean and very open with indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the outdoor area was covered as well + beautiful view of the Capitol building + DJ that was there kept the vibes high and I felt like I was on the rooftop in Miami + steak was delicious (wish that the egg was fried and that there was more chimmichuri ) + French toast was pretty good... sweet though + I like the drink tower option so that the price per drink is lower. Our aperol spritz were about $13 each (not sure how much they regularly are) + restrooms were clean + the hostess was great, so nice! Things I didn't love as much, + the waiter wasn't super friendly or attentive + the food needed more seasoning + our aperal spritz initially didn't taste good so we had to ask to have them remade + tip and service charge already included but I guess that's standard nowadays Check it out this summer, cute space!

Yelp
My friends and I met up for impromptu rooftop drinks at Ciel Social Club - Capitol Hill, and the vibe was on point. We were able to get really good seating. The rooftop views were gorgeous, and the floral activation added such a nice touch to the ambiance. The DJ kept the energy up without overpowering conversation--perfect for a chill brunch. Since it was a rooftop brunch, we ordered a few items from their limited menu. The steak hash bowl and French toast dippers were both really good. We also tried the Aperol Spritz Tower, but it came out a bit watered down. Thankfully, the staff was super accommodating and remade it--the second round was much better. While the customer service was friendly, the service itself was slow, which is understandable on busy days. Still, we had a great time and would definitely come back for the views, vibes, and a few more bites off the menu.

Yelp
The live jazz music was very nice! They had fans above the seating so it was easy to keep cool! The service was very attentive and the food was very good. I would go back!

Yelp
Location: On the roof of the Marriott Capital Hill Hotel Parking: Street parking, hotel valet, a parking lot is directly across the street from the hotel. Reservation: I had a reservation but I think you could just walk in depending on the crowd They offer covered patio seating, uncovered patio seating, and inside seating. Highly recommend seating outside. The view is beautiful of the city and the capitol building in the background. Mocktail: Strawberry Mojito 5/5 Absolutely delicious Appetizer : Sweet Chili Shrimp The shrimp was more sweet than spicy . I appreciated the sweet over spice. I did not like the crunchy black seeds at all. 4/5 Entree: Atlantic Salmon with mash potatoes. I am not a fan of too much spice. I decided to avoid the creole orzo that initially comes with the salmon. 5/5 Service: Our service definitely could've been better. My friend ordered the salmon with Creole rice, but the rice was way too spicy for her. She asked if she could swap it out for mashed potatoes, and the waitress wasn't sure if that meant reordering the whole entrée... which didn't make much sense. When the mashed potatoes finally came, they were super runny--not great. Also, it took way too long for me to get my second mocktail. Maybe our server was new, but overall the experience was just okay. 3.5/5 Tip: This location does NOT have a happy hour menu. They also charge 20% gratuity. I would give this experience a 3.5/ 5 . The view was absolutely beautiful, and I enjoyed the food and drinks overall. However, the seating arrangement wasn't ideal--the couch-to-table height felt off, especially as someone on the shorter side; the seats seemed too low and a bit sunken in. Additionally, the service left room for improvement and didn't quite meet expectations. While I'm not particularly fond of automatic gratuity charges, I do believe that if a restaurant includes it, the level of service should reflect that premium. Exceptional service should always accompany an included tip.

Yelp
I was staying at the Capital Hill Marriott, and this restaurant was on the roof. They have a covered outdoor bar, which was nice, since it was supposed to storm. I had the NY strip which was fine. I was cooked the way I asked but could have been seasoned a little better. There was quite a bit of butter on it added after cooking. The bartenders were great and willing to try some options that weren't on the menu. It's a bit expensive, but convenient for hotel guests.

Yelp
3.5 My friends and I only came here for drinks and some dessert one Thursday night. Drinks were pricey and they took forever to get to our table. The music was also so loud we had to yell the entire time to hear each other. Dessert was a chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet which was a fun blend of flavors and texture! The chocolate cake was perfectly crisp on the outside and smooth on the inside

Yelp
This is the new location that opened recently. Similar vibe and menu to the original location but the space is a lot bigger, so I prefer this location. I went for drinks close to closing time and everything came out quickly so I can't speak to what the service is normally like during peak hours.

Yelp
Stunning venue with view of capitol. Loved the drinks & food. Will deff be back to this rooftop!

Yelp
Service and food was mediocre. We waited nearly an hour for our entrees and the restaurant was not particularly busy, we were there around 9 pm after busy dinner hours. The drinks are expensive, but we did enjoy the cocktails. I'd say the drinks were the best tasting thing. The crab dip was just alright, tasted like a load of canned crab with not much else to flavor it. The shrimp pasta and the salmon orzo were also just ok. Most people could make a better dish at home. Very plain generic food, which would've been fine if the prices of entrees weren't $30-$35. They are charging premium prices for mediocrity. The most bizarre part is when we got our check, a 20% service charge was added (there were only 2 of us, I thought gratuity was only included for larger groups) but when we asked our waitress if she'd be receiving the tip she said no? I was so confused. We always tip 20% anyway so it would've been fine, but our waitress saying she wouldn't receive the money from the service charge was insane. It put us in an awkward scenario where it seemed like we were being pushed to tip another 20% ontop of the 20% service charge which just wasn't feasible. So main things to note, be ready to wait up to an hour for plain food, be ready to pay crazy money for nothing special, and be ready to be charged for tips that apparently don't go to the wait staff (unless we were being lied to so we'd tip more which is even more ridiculous). Felt like a waste of money and we wished we'd spent our night out elsewhere.
